Recent studies have demonstrated promising outcomes in the treatment of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) through immune checkpoint cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen 4 (CTLA4) blockade. However, although the potential of CTLA4 in HNSCC treatment is evident, its underlying mechanism of action remains unclear, leaving room for optimization. Research has revealed that C-C motif chemokine ligand (CCL21) possesses the ability to activate T-cell responses and enhance the immune response in the tumor microenvironment. CCL21 has demonstrated antitumor properties in various cancer types. Combing CCL21 with immune checkpoints inhibitors can amplify the synergistic antitumor benefits. This study applied a combination of CTLA4 monoclonal antibody and chemokine CCL21 in the immunotherapy of HNSCC. Furthermore, this optimized therapeutic approach notably enhances the impact on the activation of immune T cells in the tumor microenvironment and elucidates its regulatory influence on the key proteins of the Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT) signaling pathway. These findings offer an efficacious immunotherapeutic strategy for HNSCC.
OBJECTIVE:To extract texture features from vocal cord leukoplakia (VCL) images and establish a VCL risk stratification prediction model using machine learning (ML) techniques. METHODS:A total of 462 patients with pathologically confirmed VCL were retrospectively collected and divided into low-risk and high-risk groups. We use a 5-fold cross validation method to ensure the generalization ability of the model built using the included dataset and avoid overfitting. Totally 504 texture features were extracted from each laryngoscope image. After feature selection, 10 ML classifiers were utilized to construct the model. The SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) was employed for feature analysis. To evaluate the model, accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and the area under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) were utilized. In addition, the model was transformed into an online application for public use and further tested in an independent dataset with 52 cases of VCL. RESULTS:A total of 12 features were finally selected, random forest (RF) achieved the best model performance, the mean accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and AUC of the 5-fold cross validation were 92.2 ± 4.1%, 95.6 ± 4.0%, 85.8 ± 5.8%, and 90.7 ± 4.9%, respectively. The result is much higher than the clinicians (AUC between 63.1% and 75.2%). The SHAP algorithm ranks the importance of 12 texture features to the model. The test results of the additional independent datasets were 92.3%, 95.7%, 90.0%, and 93.3%, respectively. CONCLUSION:The proposed VCL risk stratification prediction model, which has been developed into a public online prediction platform, may be applied in practical clinical work. Frizzled receptors (FZDs) are key contributors intrinsic to the Wnt signaling pathway, activation of FZDs triggering the Wnt signaling cascade is frequently observed in human tumors and intimately associated with an aggressive carcinoma phenotype. It has been shown that the abnormal expression of FZD receptors contributes to the manifestation of malignant characteristics in human tumors such as enhanced cell proliferation, metastasis, chemotherapy resistance as well as the acquisition of cancer stemness. Given the essential roles of FZD receptors in the Wnt signaling in human tumors, this review aims to consolidate the prevailing knowledge on the specific status of FZD receptors (FZD1-10) and elucidate their respective functions in tumor progression. Furthermore, we delineate the structural basis for binding of FZD and its co-receptors to Wnt, and provide a better theoretical foundation for subsequent studies on related mechanisms. Finally, we describe the existing biological classes of small molecule-based FZD inhibitors in detail in the hope that they can provide useful assistance for design and development of novel drug candidates targeted FZDs.
OBJECTIVE:We developed a novel method for thyroidectomy using a single-incision oral vestibular approach. To assess its advantages and disadvantages, we compared the perioperative parameters of this approach with those of transoral three-incision thyroidectomy and trans-areolar thyroidectomy. METHODS:In a study of 136 papillary thyroid carcinoma patients (2016-2018), precise thyroidectomy and neck dissection were conducted. Among them, 52 chose single-incision oral vestibular approach, 33 chose three-incision variant, and 51 underwent trans-areolar thyroidectomy. Perioperative aspects of the transoral single-incision group were compared with those of transoral three-incision group, and transthoracic group. RESULTS:In the cohort, meticulous tumor level VI lymph node dissection was performed, achieving intended resection extent with one case requiring a switch from transoral to transthoracic approach. No nerve palsy occurred in the transoral group. Thyroidectomy duration varied significantly across groups. Transoral single-incision had a shorter duration than transoral three-incision and longer than transthoracic. Minor differences were observed in blood loss and drainage. Perioperative factors like hematoma, infection, hypocalcemia, et al., remained consistent. Notably, no tumor recurrence was observed in this study. CONCLUSIONS:This new transoral video-assisted neck surgery (TOVANS) method for thyroidectomy without gas insufflation approach did not increase the surgical complexity compared with the transoral vestibular three-incision thyroidectomy and the trans-areolar thyroidectomy. OBJECTIVES:The aim of this study is to propose a deep learning-based model using craniofacial photographs for automatic obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) detection and to perform design explainability tests to investigate important craniofacial regions as well as the reliability of the method.METHODS:Five hundred and thirty participants with suspected OSA are subjected to polysomnography. Front and profile craniofacial photographs are captured and randomly segregated into training, validation, and test sets for model development and evaluation. Photographic occlusion tests and visual observations are performed to determine regions at risk of OSA. The number of positive regions in each participant is identified and their associations with OSA is assessed.RESULTS:The model using craniofacial photographs alone yields an accuracy of 0.884 and an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.881 (95% confidence interval, 0.839-0.922). Using the cutoff point with the maximum sum of sensitivity and specificity, the model exhibits a sensitivity of 0.905 and a specificity of 0.941. The bilateral eyes, nose, mouth and chin, pre-auricular area, and ears contribute the most to disease detection. When photographs that increase the weights of these regions are used, the performance of the model improved. Additionally, different severities of OSA become more prevalent as the number of positive craniofacial regions increases.CONCLUSIONS:The results suggest that the deep learning-based model can extract meaningful features that are primarily concentrated in the middle and anterior regions of the face.
Objective: Currently, there are few practical tools for predicting the prognosis of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC). This study aims to establish a model and a convenient online prediction platform to predict whether LSCC patients will survive 5 years after diagnosis, providing a reference for further evaluation of patient prognosis. Methods: This is a retrospective study based on data collected from two centers. Center 1 included 117 LSCC patients with survival prognosis data, and center 2 included 33 patients, totaling 150 patients. All data were divided into independent training sets (60 %) and testing sets (40 %). Eight machine learning (ML) algorithms were used to establish models with 11 clinical parameters as input features. The accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) of the testing set were used to evaluate the models, and the best model was selected. The model was then developed into a website-based 5-year survival status prediction platform for LSCC. In addition, we also used the SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) tool to conduct interpretability analysis on the parameters of the model. Results: The LSCC 5-year survival status prediction model using the support vector machine (SVM) algorithm achieved the best results, with accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, and area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 85.0 %, 87.5 %, 75.0 %, and 81.2 % respectively. The online platform for predicting the 5-year survival status of LSCC based on this model was successfully established. The SHAP analysis shows that the clinical stage is the most important feature of the model. Conclusion: This study successfully established a ML model and a practical online prediction platform to predict the survival status of laryngeal cancer patients after 5 years, which may help clinicians to better evaluate the prognosis of LSCC. To investigate the feasibility and effectiveness of nasopharyngeal tube (NPT) insertion in alleviating sleep hypoxemia during the first night after velopharyngeal surgery in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS). In this prospective nonblinded, randomized, controlled study, 46 patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) who underwent velopharyngeal surgery were enrolled and randomly allocated to the control group (with no NPT insertion) and the NPT insertion group. Both groups underwent overnight pulse oximetry tests during the first postoperative night. One patient in the NPT insertion group was excluded because of involuntary self-removal of NPT during sleep. A total of 45 patients with OSAS were included for analysis, with 23 in the control group and 22 in the NPT insertion group. No significant differences in preoperative baseline information were found between the two groups. Compared with the patients in the control group, those patients in the NPT insertion group showed a significantly higher value of the lowest oxygen saturation of oximetry during the first postoperative night (85.0 ± 4.0
Objective. Radiofrequency coblation (RFC) is a relatively new method that has opened up new perspectives in treating oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC). Our study was designed to explore the feasibility and effectiveness of RFC-assisted transoral surgery (RFC-TOS) for primary OPSCC. Methods. Sixty-nine cases of OPSCC from February 2005 to November 2020 were retrospectively analyzed, including 31 in the RFC-TOS group and 38 in the open surgery group. No difference was observed in demographic and oncological characteristics. Results. The significance between the RFC-TOS group and the open surgery group was proved in intraoperative bleeding volume (34.10 ± 10.10 ml vs. 193.68 ± 21.00 ml, P<0.001), durations of surgery (79.58 ± 8.45 min vs. 217.87 ± 17.65 min, P<0.001), time to resume oral feeding (1.64 ± 0.41 d vs. 11.58 ± 1.41 d, P<0.001), duration of hospitalization (7.84 ± 0.66 d vs. 15.66 ± 1.62 d, P<0.001), and the total costs (22846.22 ± 1821.55¥ vs. 41792.24 ± 4150.86¥, P<0.001). The rates of 5-year overall survival (OS), 5-yeardisease-specific survival (DSS), and 5-year local control rate (LC) were 69.1%, 71.7%, and 75.7%, respectively, in the RFC-TOS group and 71.0%, 73.4%, and 73.7% in the open surgery group (P>0.05). Conclusions. RFC-TOS is a feasible alternative transoral approach for OPSCC. The reported perioperative and oncologic outcomes are satisfactory.
Objective: To assess the value of microbubble contrast agent SonoVue in the thorough preoperative lymphatic mapping of patients with thyroid carcinoma, including the lymphatic drainage region, the detection of sentinel lymph node (SLN), and the diagnosis of lymph node metastasis (LNM). Materials and methods: 55 patients with 62 thyroid malignancies proved by surgical pathology (59 papillary thyroid carcinomas and three medullary thyroid carcinomas) who underwent preoperative lymphatic contrast-enhanced ultrasound (LCEUS) with microbubble contrast agent SonoVue were enrolled. All LNM were confirmed by pathology. The location of thyroid lesions, ultrasonic features of lymph nodes, lymphatic drainage region, and detection of SLN were assessed. The diagnostic performance (sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy) of different parameters for the LNM diagnosis was calculated. Results: SonoVue effectively demonstrated the lymphatic drainage region for all enrolled thyroid carcinomas. The most common lymphatic drainage region for thyroid carcinomas was region VI (93.55%), followed by region III (62.90%), region IV (48.39%) and region II (4.84%). When divided by the lesion location, the most common lymphatic drainage regions for the nodule in isthmus, superior lobe and inferior lobe of the thyroid were region VI, region III, and region VI respectively. SLN was detected in 96.77% (60/62) of cases. The two cases without SLN demonstration had pathologically proven LNM. The most common sonographic sign of LNM was perfusion defect (54.17%). The diagnostic accuracy of SonoVue in central and lateral compartment LNM was 86.67% and 91.67%, respectively. Conclusion: Microbubble contrast agent SonoVue is a valuable imaging contrast medium for thorough preoperative lymphatic mapping in patients with thyroid carcinoma, including the lymphatic drainage region, the detection of SLN, and the diagnosis of LNM. LCEUS with SonoVue alone has limitations of false negatives when there is lymphatic vessel obstruction and may need to be combined with other ultrasound modalities.
Autoimmune thyroid diseases (AITDs), which include Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT) and Graves’ disease (GD), have a higher prevalence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection in the literature. The effects of AITD-associated cytokines on SARS-CoV-2 infection-mediating molecule levels might be involved in the pathogenesis of susceptibility. We speculated that hydrogen sulfide (H2S) might attenuate this process since H2S has antiviral effects. Using immunohistochemistry, we found that angiotensin-converting enzyme-II (ACE2) expression was higher in the HT group and neuropilin 1 (NRP1) expression was higher in HT and GD groups than in the normal group, while transmembrane protease serine type 2 (TMPRSS2) expression was lower in HT and GD groups. When culturing primary thyrocytes with cytokines or sodium hydrosulfide (NaHS) plus cytokines, we found that ACE2 and NRP1 mRNA levels were upregulated while TMPRSS2 levels were downregulated by interferon-γ (IFN-γ) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). After pretreatment with NaHS in thyrocytes, ACE2 and NRP1 expression were downregulated compared to IFN-γ or TNF-α treatment, and NaHS had no effect on TMPRSS2 expression. Our findings suggested that IFN-γ and TNF-α, which are elevated in AITDs, promoted ACE2 and NRP1 expression and inhibited TMPRSS2 expression. H2S might protect against SARS-CoV-2 infection by downregulating ACE2 and NRP1 levels.
Background Angiogenesis and remodeling (AR) is necessary for the growth and metastasis of cancers. Although AR related genes involved in this process are reported, the correlation between AR and clinical outcome, immune cell infiltration, and immunotherapy is still unknown in diverse cancers. This study aimed to investigate the role of AR in the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) in pan-cancer, and explore its values in prognostic prediction and therapeutic responses. Methods Firstly, AR genes (including angiogenesis genes and blood vessel remodeling genes) are collected from MsigDB database. The differential expression, and prognostic value of AR genes were studied in 33 tumor types based on TCGA and GTEx data. The AR score of each sample was calculated using the “ssGSEA” function of R package “GSVA” in pan-cancer. The correlation of the AR score with TIME index, such as the amount of stromal and immune components and the immune cell infiltration, was evaluated via integrating multiple computational methods. And we also utilized IMvigor210 and GSE78220 data to explore the prediction value of the AR score on the immunotherapy response. Results Significant differences in AR gene expression between tumors and adjacent normal tissues were found in most cancer types. The AR score varied depending on the types of tumors, and high score was related to worse survival in various tumors, such as pancreatic and stomach adenocarcinoma and so on. Moreover, the AR score was further explored to be positively correlated with proportions and pathways of immune and stromal in TIME. And the AR score was positively correlated with immunosuppressive cells, including TAMs and iTregs, while negatively with CD8+ T cells. Further analysis revealed that patients with high AR had worse therapy efficacy and survival status in bladder cancer and melanomas. Conclusions Our systematic analysis revealed that AR is closely associated TIME, and prognosis, and clinical characteristics in multiple cancers. Targeting AR genes may activate immune microenvironment and increase the efficacy of immunotherapy.
Objective Lymph node metastasis is the most important factor influencing the prognosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients. However, there is no proper method for predicting lymph node metastasis. This study aimed to construct and validate a preoperative prediction model for lymph node metastasis and guide personalized neck management based on the gene expression profile and clinicopathological parameters of OSCC. Methods Based on a previous study of related genes in OSCC, the mRNA expression of candidate genes was evaluated by real-time PCR in OSCC specimens. In this retrospective study, the gene expression profile and clinicopathological parameters of 112 OSCC patients were combined to construct the best prediction model for lymph node metastasis of OSCC. The model was validated with 95 OSCC samples in this study. Logistic regression analysis was used. The area under the curve (AUC) ultimately determined the diagnostic value of the prediction model. Results The two genes CDKN2A + PLAU were closely related to lymph node metastasis of oral squamous cell carcinoma. The model with the combination of CDKN2A, PLAU, T stage and pathological grade was the best in predicting lymph node metastasis (AUC = 0.807, 95% CI: 0.713-0.881, P=0.0001). The prediction model had a specificity of 96% and sensitivity of 72.73% for stage T1 and T2 OSCC (AUC = 0.855, 95% CI: 0.697-0.949, P=0.0001). Conclusions High expression of CDKN2A and PLAU was associated with lymph node metastasis in OSCC. The prediction model including CDKN2A, PLAU, T stage and pathological grade can be used as the best diagnostic model for lymph node metastasis in OSCC.
Background/AimPrevious literature has implicated the sustained expression of FOXM1 in numerous human cancers, including head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). The current study aimed to elucidate the function and regulatory mechanism of FOXM1 in HNSCC.MethodsWestern blot and RT-qPCR methods were performed to evaluate the expression of Linc-ROR, FOXM1, and LMO4 in HNSCC tissue samples and cells. The binding between FOXM1 and Linc-ROR was analyzed using a ChIP assay. Various cellular processes including proliferation and invasion abilities were assessed following alteration of FOXM1, Linc-ROR and LMO4 expression in HNSCC cells. Xenograft mouse models were established to validate the in vitro findings.ResultsLinc-ROR and FOXM1 were highly expressed in HNSCC tissues and cells. FOXM1 operated as a potential transcription factor to bind to the promoter region of Linc-ROR. Linc-ROR and FOXM1 exhibited high expression levels in both the clinical tissue samples as well as the HNSCC cells, which could facilitate the proliferation and invasion of HNSCC cells. Linc-ROR upregulated the expression of LMO4 and promoted activation of the AKT/PI3K signaling pathway, thus stimulating the proliferation and invasion of HNSCC cells. Silencing of Linc-ROR brought about a contrasting effect relative to that seen when FOXM1 was overexpressed in HNSCC in vivo.ConclusionsOverall, FOXM1 promoted the expression of Linc-ROR and induced the activation of the LMO4-dependent AKT/PI3K signaling pathway, thus facilitating the occurrence and development of HNSCC.
Recent studies have reported the crucial role of stanniocalcin-2 (STC2) in hepatocellular carcinoma; however, its role in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) remains elusive. In this study, microRNA-206 (miR-206) was predicted to target STC2 gene. The study herein aimed to elucidate the effect of miR-206 on HNSCC by targeting STC2. STC2 was highly expressed in HNSCC tissues and cells. By targeting STC2, miR-206 decreased mRNA and protein expression of STC2. Importantly, our study showed that miR-206 blocked the Akt signaling pathway by inhibiting STC2. Intriguingly, our data from in vitro and in vivo experiments suggested that miR-206 overexpression led to decreased cell proliferation and increased cell apoptosis and autophagy, as well as suppressed tumor growth; whereas, STC2 silencing reversed the effects of miR-206 inhibitor on those biological behaviors. In this study, we investigated the antioncogenic effect of miR-206 on HNSCC by targeting STC2, and highlighted miR-206/STC2 aixs as potential therapeutic targets for HNSCC.
To investigate the feasibility of an endoscopic‐assisted postauricular‐groove approach parotidectomy and to evaluate the advantages and limitations of such an approach.
OBJECTIVE:It is essential to characterize underlying molecular mechanism associated with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) and identify promising therapeutic targets. Herein, we explored role of homeobox transcript antisense RNA (HOTAIR) in HNSCC to regulate stanniocalcin-2 (STC2) by sponging microRNA-206 (miR-206).METHODS:HNSCC-related differentially expressed genes and regulation network amongst HOTAIR, miR-206 and STC2 were identified. Next, effect of HOTAIR on cell biological functions of HNSCC was identified after transfection of cells with HOTAIR overexpressed plasmids or siRNA against HOTAIR. PI3K/AKT signalling pathway-related gene expression was measured after miR-206 and STC2 were suppressed. Cell invasion, migration and proliferation were assessed. Finally, tumour growth was assessed to determine the effects of HOTAIR/miR-206/STC2 axis in vivo.RESULTS:HOTAIR specifically bound to miR-206 and miR-206 targeted STC2. Downregulated HOTAIR or upregulated miR-206 suppressed HNSCC cell proliferation, invasion and migration. miR-206 inhibited PI3K/AKT signalling pathway by down-regulating STC2. Besides, silenced HOTAIR or overexpressed miR-206 repressed the tumour growth of nude mice with HNSCC.CONCLUSION:HOTAIR regulated HNSCC cell biological functions by binding to miR-206 through STC2.
Objective:To evaluate the clinical assessment of regional resection and superficial lobe total resection in the treatment of benign tumors of the parotid gland. Method:One hundred and nighty-five patients operated in the First Hospital of Peking University from January 1998 to March 2017 with benign tumor of the parotid gland were retrospectively analyzed. There were 189 patients with single side tumor and 6 patients with bilateral sides, 157 cases underwent regional resection and the other 44 cases underwent superficial lobe total resection. All the results and complications were recorded and analyzed between the two groups.Result:There were total 195 patients with 201 cases. All the complications were as follows, 4 cases with recurrence, 44 cases with temporal facial paralysis, 13 cases with permanent facial paralysis, 80 cases with earlobe numbness, 49 cases with facial numbness, 44 cases with skin retraction, 26 cases with operated region effusion, 2 cases with sialosyrinx, 55 cases with Frey syndrome. There were no significant differences between the two groups in the incidences of recurrence, temporal facial paralysis, permanent facial paralysis, earlobe numbness, facial numbness, skin retraction. The incidence of Frey syndrome in the superficial lobe total resection group was significantly higher than the regional resection group(45.5%, 22.3%,P<0.05). The incidence of operated region effusion or sialosyrinx in the regional resection group was significantly higher than the superficial lobe total resection group (16.6%, 4.5%,P<0.05),further analysis showed that the operation method and the location of the tumor were the independent risk factors. Conclusion:Regional resection in the parotid gland tumor was less invasive, the incidences in the most complications were in consistent with superficial lobe total resection, and it was helpful in preventing the occurrence of Frey syndrome. Although regional resection conserved more parotid gland tissue so that the more conserved gland function and it also did not increase the incidence of sialosyrinx, the operated region effusion was significantly increased. If the operated region effusion was not discovered and handled, there would be a risk of sialosyrinx.
We studied the effects of vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) and nasal packing after correction of nasal septum deviation. One hundred and sixty patients treated by nasal septum deviation endoscopic correction were continuously selected and were randomly divided into control group (n = 80) and observation group (n = 80). The control group was treated with nasal packing using oil gauze or polymer hemostatic sponge. Patients enrolled in the observation group were treated with VSD and the treatment effects were compared. Results showed that post-operation visual analogue scale (VAS) values in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group. The measured degrees for nasal mucosa edema as well the incidence rate of complications were significantly lower than those in the control group. The total effective rate was significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.05).
A 10-year-old girl had a history of tenderness of the right temporal area for 6 months. Physical examination revealed only swelling of the right temporal fossa. No otogenic syndrome was found. Since antibiotic therapy alone was ineffective, the girl was admitted to the tumor hospital and then Peking University Dental Hospital. The pathological finding of fine-needle aspiration biopsy was inflammation. Computed tomography (CT) showed thickened soft tissue around the temporal area [Figure 1a]. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed that there was soft-tissue mass in her right zygomatic root area. The swelling and erythematous area in the zygomatic root area worsened. A subepidermal retroauricular abscess formed, and she underwent abscess drainage [Figure 1d]. She was then transferred to our department. A hearing test revealed slightly conductive hearing loss in the right ear. CT scan was rechecked and showed soft tissue in the right mastoid and tympanic cavity, with an irregular osteolytic area involving tympanic cavity, zygomatic root, and zygomatico temporal junction [Figure 1b]. Finally, we made a diagnosis of zygomatic root abscess resulting from an acute attack of masked mastoiditis. The girl underwent mastoidectomy and intravenous antibiotic therapy. Three months postoperatively, her hearing had returned to normal, and CT scan showed that the temporal bone had recovered well [Figure 1c].
Objective To examine the prevalence and risk factors of allergic rhinitis in Beijing region. Methods A total of 2 215 residents were selected with stratified cluster sampling and surveyed with a questionnaire,physical examination and skin prick test on allergic rhinitis. Results The prevalence of allergic rhinitis was 25. 72% and there was no significant between-gender difference in the prevalence(P 0. 05). The partiapants of 21-30 years old had the highest prevalence rate and there were statistical between-age group difference(P 0. 05). Occupation,living environmental pollution,cockroaches and other insects in house,with parental allergic rhinitis history,pollen allergies,asthma history,and occupational exposure to dust were influencing factors of allergic rhinitis(all P 0. 05). The results of multi-factor logistic regression show ed that living environmental pollution(odds ratio[OR]= 2. 437),parental history of allergic rhinitis(OR = 8. 546),pollen allergies(OR = 3. 752),history of asthma(OR = 1. 873),and occupational dust exposure(OR = 3. 182) were the risk factors of allergic rhinitis. Conclusion The prevalence of allergic rhinits is higher in young adults but then decreases with the increment of age among the residents in Beijing region.
