As technology becomes complex, firms face the critical dilemma of whether to differentiate increasingly themselves from or incorporate prevalent technologies in their sectors. Although prior research has primarily examined the role of technological relatedness in driving short-term performance, its role in sustaining long-term technological impact remains largely understudied. Technological impact is crucial because it serves as the foundation for future technological trajectories, facilitates the establishment of industry standards, strengthens market power, and ensures long-term success. Drawing upon optimal distinctiveness theory, we explore how firms can balance technological relatedness and distinctiveness to maximize their technological impact. Additionally, we investigate how both internal and external factors moderate this relationship. Using co-cited patent data from the new energy vehicle industry from 1998 to 2021, our study reveals the inverted U-shaped relationship between technological relatedness and technological impact, enriching the literature on the determinants of technological impact. Furthermore, we find that firm size amplifies this curvature by steepening the relationship, whereas competitor density attenuates it by flattening the curve. This deepens our understanding of the boundary conditions of optimal technological relatedness. Our findings have important implications for firms seeking to strategically balance technological relatedness and distinctiveness to maximize technological impact within their industries.
Decision-support artificial intelligence (AI) has become an essential technology for firms aiming to increase their business development by optimising strategic decisions. However, unlike other information technologies, decision-support AI often operates as a 'black box', which can erode trust. The current understanding of information technology trust faces challenges when attempting to explain the role of trust in decision-support AI when formulating business strategies. This study explores how firms can develop trust in decision-support AI for the formulation of business strategies. By adopting a boundary-spanning perspective, the research introduces a three-stage model that outlines specific strategies, processes, and outcomes at each stage to nurture trust in decision-support AI. This study contributes to the existing literature on AI trust by proposing an approach for building organisational trust in decision-support AI and to technology trust theory by emphasising the iterative and concurrent dynamics of trust and usage within the realm of decision-support AI, as well as the interactive capability of organisations with decision-support AI. Additionally, it enriches the boundary-spanning literature by offering a planned view on decision-support AI trust development.
A firm's technological impact is an important metric because it reflects the firm's influence in a specific technological arena, shapes the establishment of industry standards, and drives future technological innovations, contributing to long-lasting competitive advantage. Previous research has emphasized the significant role of a firm's collaboration network characteristics in driving innovation. However, no consensus exists regarding the effects of network characteristics on innovation. Several studies have highlighted how relational and structural embeddedness positively impact exploratory innovation by enhancing trust and knowledge sharing and providing access to new information. Conversely, other research shows that structural embeddedness can hinder incremental innovation due to information noise. Additionally, not all innovations yield the same technological impact, underscoring the need to explore the determinants of a firm's technological impact. Drawing upon social network theory, we propose that the relationship between relational and structural embeddedness and a firm's technological impact is far from linear. Using patent data from the flat panel display industry for the period between 1996 and 2020, we find that a firm's relational embeddedness demonstrates an inverted U-shaped relationship with its technological impact. In contrast, structural embeddedness has a consistent positive linear effect. Furthermore, a firm's prior networking experience flattens the inverted U-shaped relationship between relational embeddedness and technological impact while weakening the positive linear relationship between structural embeddedness and technological impact.
This paper investigates how Emerging Market Firms (EMFs) upgrade and develop into hidden champions in a context that differs from that of developed countries. With the perspective of Global Value Chains (GVCs) theory, case studies of three Chinese hidden champions in different industries were conducted. The findings show that with the help of global lead firms, embedded depth and niche market breadth are key strategies for the EMFs to improve product competitiveness, technical capacities, global market share and bargaining power, and ultimately shape the development process and outcomes of hidden champions. Our results also suggest that both strategies are closely related to the distinctive characteristics and the subjective intention to improve performance of EMFs. This research is useful for both academics and practitioners and contributes to the theory of hidden champions by providing the GVCs perspective. Furthermore, corresponding practical insights are offered to help more companies to gain competitive advantages in the cooperation with global lead firms.
Successful business transformation requires companies to cope with serious resource constraints. Despite fruitful research on the factors influencing transformation, how companies achieve transformation remains unclear. This study investigates transformation mechanisms by adopting the resource orchestration perspective and conducting a case study of a fintech company. The findings demonstrate a three-stage model of resource constraints, resource orchestration actions, and resulting capabilities. This study contributes to transformation theory by exploring the transformation process with a focus on resource constraints and actions and the capabilities to respond to the constraints.

This project introduces an enhanced approach to the experimental preparation of Sodium Ferric Ethylenediaminetetraacetate(NaFeEDTA)as an iron supplement.Bridging theoretical concepts with practical manufacturing,the experimental design is aligned with pharmaceutical production processes.It incorporates a comprehensive set of modules,ranging from experimental design and drug preparation to structural identification and purity analysis.The project transforms the experiment from a validation-based exercise to a holistic,design-oriented experiment.Students are guided to consider quality control,safety protocols,and environmental protection as part of their experimental design.This experimental framework accommodates multiple patent pathways,stimulating students'investigative interests and fostering skills in experimental design and critical thinking.It aims to enhance students'problem-solving capabilities,improve their scientific literacy,and boost their confidence in the field.

The phenomenon of transformation from an internal platform to an external platform has attracted increasing research attention. However, the transformation process is still unclear. This study aims to uncover how internal platforms transform into external platforms. By adopting a case study method and taking resource orchestration as a theoretical lens, our findings generate a three-stage process model, which specifies the relationships among strategic sense-making of platform owners, resource orchestration, and capability in the path breaking, path creation, and path dependence stages. This study contributes to understanding the transformation process from an internal platform to an external one and thus bridges the literature on internal platforms and external platforms.
随着"乡村振兴"及"双碳"战略目标的提出,继打赢脱贫攻坚战之后,脱贫地区绿色发展问题受到广泛关注.本文结合经济、环境、科技、就业、消费等方面的指标数据对辽宁省15个脱贫县的发展现状进行分析,在考虑环境污染非期望产出的基础上利用超效率SBM模型对2011-2018年15个脱贫县的绿色发展效率进行测度,分析阻碍脱贫地区绿色发展水平提升的关键因素,并基于研究所得结论提出有针对性的对策建议.
This paper aims to conduct a systematic overview of green growth literature and reveal the evolution, hot topics, as well as future directions of this field. Given the dispersion of the existing related studies, the development and evolution process of green growth have yet to be comprehensively reviewed. The qualitative review cannot objectively and quantitatively screen out important keywords, possibly leading to bias. This study uses a hybrid method based on bibliometric analysis and the fuzzy Delphi method to review 806 papers from the Scopus database. The findings show that there is an exponential rise in publications with the leading authors, countries, and institutions concentrated in South Korea, China, and the USA. The contents of core literature are focused on pathways and influencing factors of green growth. Hot topics, including policy support, resource management, emission reduction, and the application of new technology, are summarized. The top 5 keywords for future directions are energy, economy, emission, development, and management. The findings offer some valuable contributions to both academic and practical investigations of green growth.
Previous research has suggested giving more attention to the quality of precision agricultural technology adoption. By taking the information processing view as the theoretical lens, this study investigates precision agriculture adoption cases from two Chinese agricultural organizations to examine how they achieve high-quality adoption. Interviews, secondary data collection and coding strategies were utilized to collect and analyze the data to identify the development of information processing capabilities. The research findings reveal two pathways for developing information processing capabilities through different information processing controls and networks appropriate for cooperatives (co-ops) and agricultural firms. This study contributes to the agricultural technology adoption literature by extending precision agriculture technology adoption from the adoption rate to adoption quality.
Cobalt oxide decorated amorphous carbon/cobalt silicate (denoted as Co-rich C/CoSi) is developed and proved as a potential OER catalyst. The three-dimensional (3D) Co-rich C/CoSi composite is synthesized using the renewable bamboo leaves as raw materials and silicon suppliers undergoing the calcination, hydrothermal and adsorption processes. The decoration of Co can greatly improve the OER performance of carbon/cobalt silicate (C/CoSi). The overpotential of Co-rich C/CoSi is 349 mV at 10 mA.cm(2) and Tafel slope is 77 mV.dec(-1), which are lower than those of C/CoSi (448 mV and 84 mV.dec(-1)). The values are even superior to many reported transition metal-based electrocatalysts. Furthermore, the Co-rich C/CoSi shows large electroactive surface area and long stability (98.7% OER capacity retention after 15 h). This work not only develops a strategy to synthesize 3D Co-rich C/CoSi composite, but also demonstrates the decoration of Co can significantly enhance the OER performance of C/CoSi. 数字经济下企业面临着复杂多变的外部环境,开展数字化战略更新活动成为传统企业生存和发展的关键.为此,选取林清轩开展案例研究,探索数字化战略更新的实现和演进路径.研究发现:(1)传统企业在开展数字化活动时,存在着认知、行动及商业模式等惯性力量,而组织学习是一种克服组织惯性的有效方式;(2)实现数字化战略更新是一个过程,经历了数字化探索、数字化提升和数字化赋能阶段,在各阶段中,企业依次克服了认知惯性、行动惯性和商业模式惯性;(3)数字化战略更新活动呈现出从IT端、营销端到流程端的数字基础设施改进、数字营销渠道推广和数字业务流程构建的演进路径.
近年来,传统企业纷纷抓住数字技术机遇,致力于进行数字导向的战略更新活动.然而,现有文献对于传统企业数字导向战略更新前因变量的探讨还比较有限.本研究基于IS战略化和战略实践观,提出了"战略化活动-忘却学习-数字导向战略更新"的研究框架,构建了自上而下的创业导向活动、自下而上的组织即兴活动,通过组织忘却学习影响数字导向战略更新的理论模型.本文采用两种研究方法,即问卷调查和案例研究方法,探讨数字导向战略更新的前因及实现路径.研究表明:创业导向和组织即兴均有利于传统企业的数字导向战略更新;忘却学习分别在创业导向与数字化探索创新、组织即兴与数字化探索创新的关系中起到中介作用.本研究细致刻画了传统企业如何通过忘却学习进行数字导向战略更新的作用机制,具有重要的理论及实践价值.
Purpose Sharing resources with stakeholders is the key for keystones to govern business ecosystems successfully. However, existing research has not paid further attention to how keystones share resources under the condition of resource sufficiency and how keystones balance resource sharing with complementors when they lack resources. Therefore, this paper aims to explore how keystones govern their business ecosystems under the conditions of resource sufficiency and resource insufficiency. Design/methodology/approach This paper adopts the single case study method. First, by adopting Gioia coding to analyze the relevant data of the case sample, this paper obtains the key concepts of the business ecosystem governance process. Then, it establishes the relationship between the concepts by analyzing the governance process of the case sample. Findings Under the condition of resource sufficiency, keystones under the condition of resource sufficiency, should make full use of resources to incubate more complementors, and further integrate the resources of the business ecosystem, to create more value for their business ecosystems. Under the condition of resource insufficiency, keystones should break the boundaries of business ecosystems and acquire external resources, to meet the resource needs of complementors. Subsequently, keystones should redeploy idle resources according to the actual needs of complementors, to meet the changing resource needs of complementors. Originality/value This study subdivides business ecosystem governance conditions and further constructs the business ecosystem governance process model, which provides a theoretical and practical reference for business ecosystem governance.
The development of digital technologies has forced an increasing number of traditional intermediaries to transform into e-intermediaries for survival. This study adopts the resource orchestration perspective to investigate the digital transformation process and mechanism by using a case study method. Our findings indicate that the digital transformation of intermediaries requires a fit among the strategic logic, resource orchestration, and capability and reveal the roles of information technology and strategic logics in the transformation process. This study contributes to theory-building in digital transformation by providing a comprehensive framework for reconfiguring organizational resources and capabilities to cope with the requirements of e-intermediaries. Our findings also provide useful managerial insights for intermediaries in terms of resource-focused actions and resource portfolios to bridge supply and demand.
与利益相关者共享资源是核心企业成功治理商业生态系统的关键.当核心企业遇到资源短缺情境时,对核心企业的系统治理就会提出严峻的挑战.然而,已有研究并没有细分出核心企业的资源充足和资源短缺两种情境,为此本研究针对资源短缺情境,进一步研究在核心企业资源短缺情境下应该如何治理商业生态系统.通过对韩都衣舍商业生态系统的案例研究表明,核心企业需要采用两个阶段动态框架"治理战略—资源协奏—治理能力"进行资源短缺情境下的商业生态系统治理:第一阶段采用"反应型"适应战略—获取—数量柔性能力;第二阶段采用"变革型"适应战略—再配置—功能柔性能力.本研究不仅在理论上细化了核心企业商业生态系统治理的资源情境,并构建了两个阶段动态治理框架,同时还能为核心企业应对资源短缺的挑战提供理论和实践参考.
User innovation has received widespread attention in academia and industry over the past four decades. However, not all users play a role in innovation. Fans, who are users who continuously interact with firms, have become new drivers of innovation and have helped firms achieve great success in practice, which has been enabled by ongoing advances in information and communication technologies. We utilize the concept of social presence as a theoretical lens and conduct a case study to explore the mechanisms through which continuous interaction is achieved to transform users into fans. The findings identify two types of fans, namely, amateur and professional fans, and their corresponding ways of achieving continuous interaction. The present work can benefit academics by contributing to research concerning fan innovation and social presence and can help practitioners by enabling more fans to participate in innovation activities.
