Background:Occupational burnout has an important impact on the physical and mental health of nurses, stability of the nursing team, and patient safety. As significant contributors to the effective operation of medical and health institutions, clinical nurses experience high occupational burnout because of the comprehensive effects of many factors, such as family and work pressures. Therefore, it is necessary to fully understand the factors associated with nurses' occupational burnout and their interrelationships, to support the development of targeted interventions to reduce occupational burnout among clinical nurses. Objective:To explore the relationship between work-family conflict, career calling, and occupational burnout among nurses. In addition, we studied whether career calling plays a mediating role between work-family conflict and occupational burnout. Methods:A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 1,145 nurses. Data were collected using a general information questionnaire, Work-Family Behavioral Role Conflict Scale, Career Calling Scale, and Maslach Burnout Inventory. Structural equation models were used to build the model. A STROBE checklist was used to report the results. Results:Nurses' occupational burnout was positively related to work-family conflict but negatively correlated with career calling. Meanwhile, career calling mediates the relationship between work-family conflict and occupational burnout. Conclusion:Nurses' career calling plays a mediating role in the relationship between work-family conflict and occupational burnout. The findings of this study can provide essential information to nursing managers to formulate targeted strategies to reduce occupational burnout among nurses.
BackgroundCurrently, nurses are under great pressure and prone to the effort-reward imbalance and presenteeism, which hinders the development of medical health and has gained insufficient attention. The objective of this study is to investigate the actual situation of the effort-reward imbalance and presenteeism for nurses, alongside the exploration of the relationships between them, which is aimed to provide guidance for the alleviation of presenteeism and improvement of nursing quality.MethodsThis study was a cross-sectional survey. From October to December 2024, a convenience sampling method was used to conduct a survey among 2,095 nurses from four hospitals in Sichuan Province, China. Data were collected through Questionnaire Star. The questionnaire was composed of general data, the effort-reward imbalance scale and the Stanford Presenteeism Scale. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 26.0 statistical software, including descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation analysis.ResultsThe effort-reward imbalance score of nurses was (55.91 ± 8.32), in which 52.1% of nurses were in the effort-reward imbalance state, and 44.9% of nurses were in the high-overcommitment state. The presenteeism score of nurses was (16.82 ± 5.85). Besides, the presenteeism of nurses under the state of effort-reward imbalance was relatively higher than those with effort-reward balance (t = −43.30, P < 0.001), and the presenteeism of nurses with high-overcommitment was higher than others (t = −41.77, P < 0.001). Overall, effort-reward imbalance and presenteeism were positively correlated (r = 0.340, P < 0.001).ConclusionThe condition of effort-reward imbalance is serious among Chinese nurses, alongside the common presenteeism. Besides, effort-reward imbalance and presenteeism were positively correlated. Overall, it is recommended to alleviate the workload of nurses appropriately, alongside the improvement of their rewards and more attention to their physical and mental health.
BACKGROUND:Previous studies have confirmed the potential effectiveness of peer video feedback in the operational training of health care students. However, an appropriate theoretical framework to support peer video feedback has not been established. The cultural historical activity theory (CHAT) provides a suitable framework. This study evaluated the effectiveness of a peer video feedback activity system, adapted from CHAT, in enhancing operational skills, self-regulated learning abilities, and teaching satisfaction among new nurses. METHOD:A quasi-experimental design was employed, involving 213 new nurses. The experimental group received training through a CHAT-based peer video feedback activity system, and the control group was trained through traditional instructor feedback. Data were collected after seven operational training sessions provided by the nursing department. RESULTS:Posttraining, the CHAT group scored statistically higher in operational examinations, self-regulated learning abilities, and teaching satisfaction compared with the control group (p = .004, p = .004, and p < .001, respectively). CONCLUSION:Operational training with a peer video feedback activity system can significantly enhance the operational skills, self-regulated learning abilities, and teaching satisfaction of new nurses. BACKGROUND:Tele-nursing, which utilizes digital health tools, has the potential to enhance the management of Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM). However, patients' awareness, needs, and barriers to using these services are not well understood. This study employed qualitative interviews to explore the perceptions of patients with T2DM towards tele-nursing and to identify factors influencing their adoption, with the aim of providing tailored strategies for effective service implementation. METHODS:A descriptive qualitative research design was used. From June to August 2023, a purposive sampling method was used to select 20 T2DM patients from a hospital, following the principle of maximum variation. Semi-structured interviews were conducted, and the data were analyzed using thematic analysis. RESULTS:Four main themes were identified: insufficient awareness and willingness to use tele-nursing, the need for tele-nursing services, facilitators of tele-nursing, and barriers to tele-nursing. CONCLUSION:The awareness of tele-nursing among T2DM patients needs significant improvement. Patients expressed clear demands for tele-nursing services, including health education, dietary guidance, blood sugar monitoring, and medication reminders. However, the adoption of tele-nursing is influenced by factors such as service accessibility, scope, technological challenges, and associated costs. Tele-nursing should address the specialized nursing needs of T2DM patients by leveraging remote technology to provide personalized and flexible care options that align with their evolving requirements.

Acupuncture is widely accepted as a therapeutic option for managing depression. However, evidence from clinical trials remains controversial. This review aims to synthesize the best available evidence on the efficacy and safety of acupuncture in managing depression. The review was performed according to PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis) guidelines. Five databases and the relevant trial registries were searched from the inception to October 2021. Randomized clinical trials of acupuncture for managing depression, published in English, were selected for inclusion. The quality of included studies was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool. Netmeta and dmetar of R packages were used to conduct a network meta-analysis. Twenty-two trials with 2391 participants were eligible and included in the analysis. This review found evidence that electroacupuncture (EA) plus antidepressant achieved superior outcomes compared with the waitlist (standardized mean difference = -8.86, 95% confidence interval: -14.78 to -2.93). The treatment ranking of different interventions in improving depression symptoms indicated that EA plus antidepressant with a probability of 0.8294, followed by manual acupuncture (MA) plus antidepressant (0.6470) and MA (0.5232). Acupuncture, either in isolation or as an adjunct to pharmacological treatment, has clinical benefits and can be considered a safe option for managing depression.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES:This study aimed to determine the relationship between the demand for telenursing and the chronic illness resources available to patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), as well as the factors that affect this requirement.DESIGN:Cross-sectional.METHODS:This study included 586 participants with T2DM. A telenursing needs questionnaire developed by the research team was used to assess the telenursing needs of patients with T2DM, and the Chinese version of the Chronic Illness Resources Survey was used to assess the participants' community chronic disease resources. A one-way ANOVA and multiple regression analysis were used to determine the factors influencing the demand for telenursing and to estimate the relationship between chronic illness resources and the need for telenursing. The STROBE checklist was followed.RESULTS:The patients' telenursing needs, ranked from high to low, are as follows: individualized skills and safety; basic disease care; psychological and spiritual needs; respect and social support; and high-level health management. The chronic disease resource score was 3.47 ± .02, which suggested that patients with T2DM have relatively rich disease resources. Multiple regression analyses showed that resources for chronic diseases, the course of diabetes and complications, family income and other chronic diseases accounted for 79.6% of the variance in T2DM patients' telenursing needs.CONCLUSIONS:The telenursing needs of patients with T2DM are prominent, and primarily focus on basic nursing needs for the disease. To some extent, chronic disease resources affect the telenursing needs of patients with T2DM.RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE:It is crucial to pay attention to research on telenursing for T2DM patients from the patients' perspective. Enhancing resources for chronic diseases may help meet the telenursing needs of T2DM patients.PATIENT OR PUBLIC CONTRIBUTION:Parents and diabetes management specialists participated in designing the telenursing needs questionnaire.
