As a rare phenomenal original online-novel, Lord of Mysteries recently has drawn wide attention from the critics. From the perspective of fiction typology, Lord of Mysteries is a social growth story in the new era under the cloak of fantasy. The novel’s creative contribution to the growth narrative is mainly reflected in: a) the “knowing and doing” dimension of growth which is full of deep “spiritual” exploration; b) the “time-space” background which expands the span of “space” breadth and “time”; and c) the structure of growth narrative which creates an interactive complex configuration between characters. The regular hero image of the protagonist Klein is the “guidepost” of the reader’s growth. The “play-to-be method” as the core setting is a metaphor of the social transformation in personality. The construction of the subjectivity in the growth process is the cultural implication of this novel, pointing to the cultural utopia of a generation of young writers and readers.
