Surface protective films for hard disk media were studied. Whereas sputtered carbon films are not sufficiently wear-resistant for use with CaTiO3 and Al2O3. TiC head sliders, tests using plasma-CVD films prepared in acetylene gas under RF or dc discharge have lubricating properties and sufficient wear resistance, but are so soft that disk surfaces are easily damaged. By combining the two in a doub...
The characteristics of two very common targets (TbFeCo and TbCo alloys) were evaluated and it was learned that sputtering such alloy targets varies the sample composition, but target oxygen content has no effect on the magnetic characteristics.
Introduction It is desirable to have a large Kerr rotation angle in magnetooptical recording. One method known for enlarging that apparent angle, the enhancement effect, is to put dielectric film on the magnetic film surface. We thought that we could obtain a large Kerr rotation angle, if instead of a dielectric film we used amorphous Si film, which has a large refractive index and is a semiconductor with low absorption at solid state laser wavelengths. a-Si film has a band gap around solid state laser wavelengths (approx. 800 nm), so it shows a certain amount of light transmission. It is also possible to widen the band gap and improve the transmissivity by adding impurities. In this work, we measured the a-Si film enhancement effect and, controlling the refractive index and absorptilon coefficient by mixing 0, N and C into the a-Si film, we studied the conditions for obtaining the maximum enhancement effect.
