This article is focused on the demonstration of the EFE-BROW assessment model application to locations that were previously abandoned and unused-called brownfields, and today they serve as industrial zones. The EFE-BROW model is targeted at the evaluation of development potential for utilization of brownfield areas for commercial use, ideally of industrial zone type. Namely the ex post application which means application on sites that are no longer brownfields is a meaningful way to verify the assessment method of the EFE-BROW model.
This article reports an environmental study concerning tailing pond Sedem Zien in Central Slovakia. Heavy metal concentrations (Fe, Mn, Pb, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Zn) were measured in waters, soils and plants of the tailing pond. Two drainage waters percolating tailing pond sediments were analysed (red coloured drainage and transparent drainage). Colour of the red drainage was caused by high Fe content (9.63 mg.l(-1)) and the predominant metal in the transparent drainage was Pb (3.77 mg.l(-1)). Soils contain high concentrations of all of the analysed metals, mainly Fe, Mn, Zn, Pb and Cu. Calculated Bio-Concentration Factor (BCF) <1 showed that both of the analysed species (Pinus sylvestris, Quercus robur) are excluders and are not suitable for phytoremediation purposes. The biggest uptake of heavy metals by plants was observed in the soils with lowest pH value. Translocation factor reached the highest values for Mn (up to 27.545).
Modern society is characterised by functional infrastructure and sufficient number and variety of materials in the form of various technical goods. All these achievements of civilisation are not only the result of human skills, but their material principles are based on industrial minerals. This group of materials includes a wide range of the natural raw materials which are used in many industries. This includes the raw materials for the manufacture of glass, ceramics or fillers. For other raw materials, new applications are just being developed. These materials are very desirable in the market. Not only are their supplies endless, but they occur very unevenly in the natural deposits and unlike most metals can't be recycled. Due to low production costs in the production of this type of the raw materials, the competition in the global market has significantly increased during recent years. With this growing trend has significantly increased the interest in these materials in developing countries, which is precisely the Central American country of Belize. In the context of the cooperation, project has been verified several economically interesting sources such as ceramic clay, bentonite, feldspar and carbonate materials.
Formation of Acid Mine Drainage (AMD) at Banska Stiavnica deposit is connected with mining of base metals and of hydroquartzite containing fine-grained pyrite. Oxidation of sulphides causes acidification of the environment and increases mobility of heavy metals. In this study, two types of fly ash (from domestic and plant biomass combustion) were used to investigate possible decontamination of AMD. Used AMD is characterised by high concentrations of Fe (753 mg.l(-1)), Mn (16.2 mg.l(-1)), Zn (2.46 mg.l(-1)) and low pH (2.4). The ash samples were dosed (1 g, 5 g, 10 g, 20 g) to AMD to increase pH values and remove metals. Changes of pH were observed in selected time intervals within 4 hours. The pH values of the aqueous medium were increased proportionally with the amount of applied agent. The application of plant fly ash enabled to adapt the pH up to 8.1 and adding of the domestic fly ash modified the pH of AMD up to 5.9. Although used ashes contained high concentrations of Fe (39594 and 4304 mg.kg(-1)), Mn (15084 and 2007 mg.kg(-1)) and Zn (5347 and 3564 mg.kg(-1)) removal of these metals from AMD was effective. Problem occurred in case of domestic fly ash which caused the enrichment of AMD with Pb, Mn and Cr (by concentrations 0.01-0.1 mg.l(-1)).
The worldwide development of the industry and technology is inevitably associated with large-scale mining of non-renewable resources, which relates, inter alia, to the rapid increase in volumes of pollutants and waste with negative environmental effects. This paper tries to evaluate their impact on the landscape, and in a sense, on the quality of life.However, the mere evaluation of damages during the extraction and utilization of mineral resources would be an end in itself. Therefore, the essential objective of the paper is to find a way to mitigate these effects, and consequently, to repair the damage that has been caused by this activity.
The present paper gives a comprehensive overview of the hydrotechnical measures implemented on the bottom of the depleted openpit mine Obranci mini. Inner wastedump of Obranci mini is located in the central part of the Most basin and fills the space of the former openpit mine. Due to the technical, mining, hydrogeological and geomechanical conditions was built a system of hydroteochnical measures at the bottom of the depleted mine, to ensure a secure, future, surface working of the CSA mine to the Obranci mint mine.
Although the decisive Council Directive 1999/31/EC, on landfilling of waste, which binds the EU member countries to drastically reduce the landfilling of biowaste, the European legislation has not dealt with the questions of gastro waste disposal in detail to date. The directive decrees to reduce the volume of such waste disposed in landfills to 35% by 2020 related to 100% of the produced biodegradable waste in 1995. Directive 2008/98/EC of the European Parliament and the Council on wastes requires changes in the legislation of the EU member states in the form of accepting relevant legislation regulating biowaste disposal. Apart from the major goal of making a legislative framework for the use of such waste, the legal norms concerning the issue of biodegradable waste also strive to ensure the protection of public health and environmental soundness during waste processing. The importance of meeting the legislative principles becomes especially clear in gastro waste disposal as the risks of microbial contamination are particularly high.
The paper presents the development of environmental labelling in the frame of National Programme of environmental labelling of products and services in the Czech Republic. It also includes findings from the research on environmental labelling type I, which has been carried out by students of VSB-Technical University of Ostrava in the Moravian-Silesian Region since 2009. This research was done in randomly selected retail shops from the five major retail chains (CR Schwarz, Ahold, REWE Group and Tesco Stores CZ). We monitored selected fast moving consumer goods (specifically the detergents, toilet paper and soap), which have environmental labelling type I (ecolabel). In all stores we observed the decrease in the products officially labelled in accordance with the National Programme of environmental labelling of products and services and EU Ecolabel, which corresponds to the countrywide trend in terms of number of registrations of these products.
Dyrektywa Rady 1999/31/WE w sprawie skladowania odpadow, zobowiązuje kraje czlonkowskie do radykalnego zmniejszenia ilości skladowanych bioodpadow, jednak w ustawodawstwie europejskim brak szczegolowych regulacji dotyczących odpadow gastronomicznych (kuchenne). Dyrektywa odpadowa stanowi, ze ilośc odpadow biodegradowalnych ma byc zredukowana do roku 2020 do 35% ilości odpadow skladowanych w 1995 r. Dyrektywa 2008/98 /WE Parlamentu Europejskiego i Rady w sprawie odpadow wymaga wprowadzenia zmian w przepisach panstw czlonkowskich UE w postaci przyjecia odpowiednich przepisow dotyczących utylizacji odpadow organicznych. Oprocz glownego celu jakim jest tworzenie ram prawnych dla skladowana tego typu odpadow, wprowadzane są normy prawne dotyczące ochrony zdrowia i stanu środowiska podczas utylizacji odpadow. Regulacje prawne dotyczące odpadow gastronomicznych są szczegolnie wązne z uwagi na zagozenie mikrobiologiczne.
Good knowledge of the fracturing rock environment is an essential boundary condition in the event that it will be used as foundation soil. Each fault is a sign of deterioration in physical-mechanical parameters of rock, reducing uniaxial compressive strength and a number of other negative effects that we will have to deal with during construction work. Also important is the prediction of changes in the rock environment that occur during the implementation of excavations, tunneling, etc. Predisposition stress in the rock environment causes instability of the slope or bulging at the bottom of the excavation.The rock mass is a heterogeneous environment that is at each moment influenced by a number of factors and is characterized by the action of normal and tangential stress components. The rock massif is able to rearrange its composition to more or less resist environmental influences. This is the effect of mechanical weathering, chemical weathering, stress-deformation changes and the effect of geodynamic processes. A rock massif can develops surfaces of discontinuity to varying extents and points may be affected by tectonic failure. This can cause the accumulation of groundwater, acceleration of groundwater or deep weathering. Unsuitably orientated fissure systems can be a significant influence as well. This can cause slipping out of the massif in open cuts of roads or tunnels. Wrong filling can be also very problematic. It may cause permeability through the geological environment or accumulation of water.The aim is to characterize the factors, which influence the behavior of the rock mass, like foundation soil. Understanding this issue is important in realizing each construction work. It is very difficult to generalize individual factors. A simplification of this problem is used to study this issue in greater depth. Without an awareness of the basic issues and their description, it is not possible to perform a deeper analysis. Reserves of brown coal in the Czech Republic are, in the long term view, still recognized as the main domestic fuel and energy resource. The biggest issues, concerning the use of these domestic resources, are, according to the authors, the existence of the "Resolution of the Government of the Czech Republic No. 444" of 30 October, 1991 together with the new State Energy Concept, which was approved in May this year, and which states that the CR will export three out of four key fuels and energy resources, namely oil, gas and nuclear fuel. Brown coal is, therefore, the only domestic energy resource that allows a long-term guarantee leading towards reducing the energy dependence.
This article deals with the applied energy recovery solutions for complex processing of rubber waste f or energy recovery. It deals specifically with the solution that could maximize possible use of all rubber waste and does not creat e no additional waste that disposal would be expensive and dangerous for the environmen t. The project is economically viable and energy se lf-sufficient. The outputs of the process could replace natural gas and crude oil products. The other part of the process is also the separation of metals, which can be returned to the metallurgical secondary production.
Ostrava agglomeration is one of the largest industrial agglomerations in Europe. There happened a lot of environmental problems associated with air contamination and contamination of geological subsoil. Ostrava city agglomeration is burdened with the amount of contaminants in the former industrial activities that contaminate water, soil and air, or creates the threat of future contamination. Nowadays there is an increasing pressure on environmental issues and increasingly smaller number of areas suitable for development, especially in the densely populated agglomeration. The Czech Republic is actively involved in environmental issues. The state spends money in the millions and milliard, especially to removal of old environmental burdens. These old ecological burdens in the Czech Republic were created especially before 1990. One of the greatest devastation from heavy industry was created in the Moravian-Silesian Region. Quality of life in the Ostrava agglomeration significantly improves. It will take many years before the quality of life will on the level of the average, ordinary cities of the Czech Republic. Aim of this publication is to characterize the nature of these environmental aspects and also point to the economic aspect of the topic.
Czech Republic is a landscape that puts great emphasis on environmental protection. The Czech Republic has a relatively large heterogeneity of the environment. There are areas with very good environmental status, such as Mountains and the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. On the contrary there are regions with large environmental loads. Places devastated from industry recorded a huge change for the better after 1990. It was caused not only by the attenuation the enterprises, but also an active environmental policy. Examples of such regions include North Moravia Region and Usti Region. Striving for continuous development of urban infrastructure and raise the standard of the population of the Czech Republic and simultaneously environmental improvement is a very difficult task. The ever-increasing construction causes annexation green field. Greenfields are depreciated. There are a number of unused brownfield. All these and many other problems should be solved gradually correct legislation that prevents ill-considered action. Strict legislation in the Czech Republic is reflected gradual improvement of the environment. The aim of the publication is to refer to legal aspects of dealing with environmental conditions in the Czech Republic.
The present article intends to asses returns on shares of the steel companies that were formed based on either merger or acquisition. The analysis included 14 operations in the steel industry. Attention was paid to returns of the companies performing acquisitions, as well as to the returns on shares that presented the acquisition target. The analysis was performed based on the “event study” method, and the analysed event was the announcement or notification of realization of an acquisition. Shares of the target steel companies as well as acquirers are attaining higher returns, but the change was not statistical significant.
Abstrakt Predmetný článok sa zaoberá trivariántnym spracovaním a určením odhadov neznámych parametrov v geodetickej sieti observovanej technológiu využívajúcou signály globálnych navigačných satelitných systémov v rokoch 2004, 2008 a 2011. Cieľom práce je zhodnotiť vplyv použitej metódy vyrovnania na odhad parametrov prvého a druhého rádu geodetickej siete a prezentovať výsledky analýzy pretvorení s grafickou vizualizáciu jednotlivých spracovaní a analýz. Na spracovanie a vyrovnanie observácií boli použité MNŠ a robustné M-odhady podľa Hubera a Hampela. Pri analýze stability bodov poukázali všetky 3 metódy spracovania na posun bodu 5005 v epoche 04-08, čo potvrdzujú aj grafické vizualizácie pomocou konfidenčných elipsoidov chýb.
This study quantified selected emissions (carbon monoxide and nitrogen oxides) that are produced during combustion of beech wood, birch wood and spruce wood charcoal in the combustion tube furnace. The maximum concentration of carbon monoxide and also the nitrogen oxides have been measured in the case of the spruce wood charcoal. The minimum concentration of carbon monoxide and also nitrogen oxides have been measured in the case of the beech wood charcoal. Although the difference between maximum emissions concentration of examined samples has been smooth. The comparison of obtained results with data published by previous studies can be made a suggestion, that the maximum concentrations of measured emissions are higher for wood than for charcoal. The nitrogen oxides yield per weight loss is higher for wood than for charcoal. On the other hand the carbon monoxide yield is higher for charcoal than for wood.
The article is an inquiry into the potentials of introducing the IQMS in a miningcompany, a system capable of interlinking existing systems of management and protection into a single system of quality management. At the selected company, there are systems of SMK, EMS and OH/SMS already introduced. The integration is aimed to cut costs of assessment, increase productivity, manitaining or improving market position and meet the need for systems-based managament. The data and information required were supplied by an organization active in mining and processing of mineral ore in Eastern Slovakia.
The creation and processing of survey sketch are one of the most common activities with which a surveyor encounters in practice. A survey sketch in the Slovak Republic must be created in accordance with existing regulations to date: „Directive for measuring and executing changes in the file of geodetic information of the Cadastre of the real estates“ and „Directive for the creation of survey sketches and the setting-out of the boundary of a lot“. In the context with development of surveying technology and changes in legislation of the Department of Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre, there were also several changes related to the creation and final processing of the survey sketches. For that reason, the Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre Authority of the Slovak Republic released a series of guidelines, according to which it is now necessary to create survey sketches. The present paper is devoted to an overview of individual regulations in the period 2009-2014, under which it is necessary to submit a survey sketch in a complex form of the proof of authentication of survey sketch to the appropriate Cadastral Department of the district office.
The present article deals with three-variant processing and finding estimates of unknown parameters in a geodetic network by the technology of global navigation satellite systems in 2004, 2008 and 2011. The assessment of the impact of a used method of adjustment on the estimation of parameters of the first and second order of the geodetic network and the presentation of results of a deformation analysis with graphical visualisation of individual processing and analyses are the objectives of this paper. An LSM method and robust M-estimates according to Huber and Hampel were used for the processing and adjustment of observations. All three processing methods showed a displacement of point No. 5005 in the epoch 04-08 in the analysis of the stability of points, which is also confirmed by graphical visualisations using confidence error ellipsoids.
