Deformation analyzes are important for long-term monitoring of areas, where, in the first place, it is necessary to take into account human safety and environmental protection for the purpose of sustainable development of human society. The quality of the results of deformation analysis will also be affected by the quality of establishment of the geodetic network. When a new Local Geodetic Network (LGN) is established, for example, during deformation monitoring (landslides, open-pit mining, excavations, etc.) for the purpose of environmental protection, its determination can be influenced by some mistakes: a) geometric quantities measured can be contaminated by blunders, b) compatibilities of some "old" points in the area of LGN can be incorrect, c) appropriate coordinates of some new points may be defective. The case c), using two methods - Least Squares (LSM) unconstrained adjustment; - iteratively reweighted LSM of Robust Estimation, is analyzed in the paper. The main objective of this paper is to compare the adjustment of the geodetic network by the Gauss-Markov model based on GMM with full rank and robust LSM adjustment. The main adjustment steps with important numerical results are presented for both methods. The method how to detect the presence of the used wrong approximate coordinates of new network points is addressed, and the detection approaches are given for both adjustment procedures. The results of both adjustment procedures summarized in the Discussion indicate that the combination of these procedures is the most suitable way of detecting errors in a geodetic network.
Sector of tourism is one of the sectors with still receiving attention and place in national economy, but it is very sensible to any positive or negative changes at the market. Tourism is very often connected with relax, sports and recreation. Thermal sources of the country provide possibilities for such activities doing by the way of thermal and aqua park using. Slovakia is very rich on the thermal sources therefore the aim of the contribution is to search the present state of aqua parks using in territory of Slovakia, with consequent suggestion for new aqua park construction, which could strengthen economic growth in the region.
Goal of the contribution is to create universal model for evaluation of companies, acting in mining industry in Slovakia. Model is orientated to the companies, acting in mining industry in Slovakia and it consists from several logically relating steps. Also application of suggested process in chosen mining company is made as well as achieved results are mutually compared. Attention is given to the revenue methods with necessity of financial plan, as well as methods that do not demand knowledge of financial plan.
Each country aims to promote and raise the profile of its tourism potential as much as possible. In terms of content, the contribution is focused on the assessment of development potential of wine tourism as the popular activity. The contribution is aimed to identify and analyze the basic objects of wine tourism in terms of assessing their potential. The contribution is based on the comparison and definition of individual objects that define the foundation of wine tourism. The methodology and methods of processing are dependent on the type and nature of the studied group of objects, whose spatial data are needed for the processing. For that reason, possibilities of modern technologies, applied primarily for conditions of spatial data collection, will be included. With solving the formulated problem on the mind, there followed the identification of the factors through indexes of wine tourism will be subsequently subjected to processing in the GIS environment.
The article deals with the analysis of the tourism offer in the proposed Dubnik geopark near Presov and its influence on the geo- and mining tourism development. The analyzed area disposes with unique primary offers of natural and anthropogenic origin. These are related to the unparalleled geological structure and occurrence of a great number of mineral resources, such as gold, antimony, cinnabar, but most importantly expensive opal known in the past around the world thanks to its purity and quality. As a result of the mining activities, a lot of technological equipment with immense communal, cultural and educational importance was left behind. Involved organizations and groups have therefore the task of preserving and utilizing these objects for next generations and the development of geo- and mining tourism seems to be the most effective way to do this.
Using renewable energy is one of the key solutions to protect natural resources. In the Slovak Republic, the proportion of different types of RES balanced greatest technically exploitable potential has biomass, geothermal and solar energy, and the use of different types of renewable energy sources should be taken into account in particular the factors influencing their applicability to the distance of the point of view of energy production and consumption, loss management, surface protection of natural factors and others. The article is devoted to the description and characteristics of the aspects of the environmental impact on the possibilities for the use of renewable energy sources, their assessment and the evaluation of their impact using the methods of the multi-criteria analysis.
One of the major areas, where sustainability is a very important issue is the hotel industry. Presently there are a number of projects – some spearheaded by NGOs, some by professional or governmental bodies – which audit hotels and lodging providers from the point of view of sustainability and “green” performance. The paper analyses the approach of the hotel industry, as well as clients to “greening”. The perception of ecofriendliness varies, however from culture to culture. The paper analyses the case of environmental awareness of hospitality service providers 3 and 4 star hotels and their attitude towards “green” performance in one of the emerging tourism destinations - Slovakia.
The purpose of this article is to investigate the efficiency and quality of business evaluation methods in the Slovakian mining industry and design process of company’s valuation. The three commonly used business valuation methods (DCF, EVA and iterative method) were selected and compared with the share price of mining company to explore which valuation methods were better for evaluating business performance in the Slovakian mining industry.
The present article intends to asses returns on shares of the steel companies that were formed based on either merger or acquisition. The analysis included 14 operations in the steel industry. Attention was paid to returns of the companies performing acquisitions, as well as to the returns on shares that presented the acquisition target. The analysis was performed based on the “event study” method, and the analysed event was the announcement or notification of realization of an acquisition. Shares of the target steel companies as well as acquirers are attaining higher returns, but the change was not statistical significant.
Successful business subject should to manage its risks in long term and to achieve sufficient profit for covering of unexpected losses. Management of risks is process that is used in business practice for identification, management and avoiding of risks in area of business. With aim to evaluate influence of integrated risks ́ management we used method of value stream analysis. This method serves for identification of risks, resulting from wasting of sources in production or administrative processes. During research and measurement we dealt with stocking process of production lines in the frame of internal material flow. According monthly observing of process of production lines stocking we found out 5 mistakes, for which we recommended possible solution that could help to optimize searching process and eliminate mistakes, which caused losses in the company.
The contribution is an analysis of selected economical indicators of companies, active in the Slovak mining industry, based on the data elaborated by Statistical Office of Slovakia during 2010-2012. Statistical classification differentiates the various economical activities of coal mining and lignite, mining of metal ores, mining support service activities, other mining and quarrying. The contribution is focused on the last group made up of firms oriented on extraction of crushed stone, gravel and pebbles, construction sands, other minerals. The goal is to reveal the causes of the deteriorating economic indicators. Simultaneously the article is presenting the profitability of sales of a specific group of mining companies for the year of 2012.
The village of Frickovce was founded based on the German (emfyteutic) law in the 14 th century at the Kobyly estate, belonging to the nobles of Perin. For the first time, it is mentioned in the portal tax register from 1427 under the name Frychhaw. 24 peasant settlements were situated here. In the 15 th - 17 th century, the village was owned by several noble families, namely Mariasi, Bornemis, Putnoki, Semer and Bockaj. In the 18 th century, the family of Klobusicky acquired Frickovce. Construction of the wine cellar, which is the subject of archaeological examination and geodetic survey, is associated with this family. Significant immovable findings, which were properly geodetic surveyed and recorded by archaeological documentation (general planimetric situation of discovered artefacts), were discovered by archaeological examination in the area of exploration.
Negative impacts of the economic crisis on the economy of companies did not avoid Slovak mining industry. Due to the detecting and quantifying of main factors and affecting financial performance of the company after negative impact of the economic crisis, a financial analysis of specific conditions in mining firm, producing crushed stone, has been carried out. Results of analysis determined negative development of financial and executive business situation of the firm in the future. Consequently there were proposed recommendations with possible costs cut down with aim to achieve savings and improve indicators of business activity. According to the current need to improve financial stability of the firm, a way of financial management in the future has been designed, which should contribute to objectification, acceleration and simplification of the decision process.
The article is an inquiry into the potentials of introducing the IQMS in a miningcompany, a system capable of interlinking existing systems of management and protection into a single system of quality management. At the selected company, there are systems of SMK, EMS and OH/SMS already introduced. The integration is aimed to cut costs of assessment, increase productivity, manitaining or improving market position and meet the need for systems-based managament. The data and information required were supplied by an organization active in mining and processing of mineral ore in Eastern Slovakia.
This paper is about surveying of the geodetic deformation network, subsequent data processing and carrying out of the deformation analysis of the stability or instability of the reference points in the surroundings of the Cierny Vah upper dam. The geodetic deformation network was measured by the static method of the GNSS technology using dual-frequency receivers along with subsequent post-processing. The deformation network measurement results were processed both as separate and bivariate data sets for the years 2008 and 2011. The network deformation analysis was carried out with the graphic visualization of the stability of the reference points.At present, the UTCN03 coordinate system is used for the needs of the Land Registry and with time is highly likely to completely replace the S-UTCN coordinate system. For the year 2011 as well as consecutive years, measurements carried out at the reference points of this water reservoir will also be made in the UTCN03 coordinate system.
The paper deals with the economic benefits of abandoned workings located in the selected region of Eastern Slovakia that is rich in mining history. Due to sensible management approach to mines in the last century, the town of Roznava succeeded in preserving the cultural heritage that is presently on display in the mining museum. However, presently booming is tourism industry, and through connection of that one with the mining cultural heritage the montane tourism emerged. The goal of this paper is to assess, using statistic methods, economic benefits of the mining museum for district of Roznava. When establishing the real economic benefit the author considers only those out-of-the district tourists who leave their expenditures in the destination under consideration. Further, the authors deals with the idea of optimising the regional development of the former mining towns and presents a brief proposal as how to increase traffic of cultural attractions with the history of the mining industry. Prevailing in the location being considered are economic problems, whilst the unemployment rate exceeds 30%. It is almost sure that the fact holds for a number of former mining towns, and hence the issue is highly topical.
The economic aspect undoubtedly belongs to the determining factors in deciding on the implementation of quality management. From the current knowledge and experience in this area it is clear that the success of the process management depends primarily on its economic impact on the organization.The paper deals with the financial assessment in a mining company with implemented quality management system according to ISO 9000. The aim is to highlight the importance of a systematic approach to data collection and analysis of different types of expenses related to the quality, as required to the stated standard.
As, due to the global economic crisis, the value of a number of companies decreased, the very same companies proved to present appropriate investment opportunities. The very fact proves to be helpful for the mining industry consolidation as well. Beside other forms of financing growths of enterprises the mining companies are increasingly turning to increasing their share of the market through mergers and acquisitions. The present paper intends to analyse selected economic indicators of those mining companies that in 2011 and 2012 made significant acquisitions. Selected for this analysis were 55 of the major transactions in the global mining industries. Included into the analysis was acquisitions value of which exceeded 1 billion US dollars. Transaction values are expressed as a percentage of market value of the acquirers.
