Background and Purpose: The Social Ecological Model provides a comprehensive perspective on the physical, social, environmental, and individual factors that influence physical activity. This study aimed to evaluate the Turkish validity and reliability of the Physical Activity Correlates Questionnaire from the Social Ecological Model (SEM-PACQ) among university students. Methods: This study was conducted between October 2023 and June 2024 at the faculties of health sciences at state universities in two provinces of Türkiye (N = 335) using a cross-sectional design to evaluate the validity and reliability of the instrument. The scale was translated using translation/back-translation procedures. Content validity was assessed using the content validity index. Following pilot testing, minor wording revisions were made to enhance item clarity. Reliability was evaluated using coefficient alpha, McDonald's omega, item-total correlations, and internal consistency coefficients, and construct validity was examined using confirmatory factor analyses. Convergent and discriminant validity were also examined. Results: The scale consists of 22 items and retains its original, six-factor structure. The content validity index was .95. The item-level content validity ratios ranged from .75 to 1. The coefficient alpha and McDonald's omega values for the scale were .90. The item-total correlation coefficients ranged between .41 and .60, and all items had values greater than .40. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the scale's factor structure. The convergent and discriminant validity results indicated acceptable construct validity across the subscales. The total SEM-PACQ and social support subscale scores were significantly higher among those who engaged in vigorous and moderate physical activity than among those who did not (p < .001). Conclusions: The SEM-PACQ was found to be valid and reliable for Turkish university students.
Objective: Dysmenorrhea is an important reproductive health problem with biopsychosocial effects in adolescents. The aim of this study is to determine the frequency of dysmenorrhea in adolescents, affecting factors, and dysmenorrhea self-care experiences. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design. Data were collected from students (n=1160) enrolled in seven high schools in a province in Türkiye. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square, one-way analysis of variance, t-test, Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis test, and multiple logistic regression tests. Results: In this study, the prevalence of dysmenorrhea was determined as 89.7%. It was determined that dysmenorrhea was affected by age (β = 1.482), stress in life (β = 1.520), menstrual cycle (β = 2.044), menarche attitude (β = 1.598), drug use (β = 2.854) and family dysmenorrhea (β = 2.943). Conclusion: It is recommended that reproductive health and menstruation education begin before adolescence and that health programs be updated to include dysmenorrhea self-care under the title of reproductive health. In addition, it is recommended that interventions be made regarding stress, drug use, and negative attitudes towards menarche, which have modifiable properties that have the potential to affect dysmenorrhea and self-care behaviors.
This study investigated adherence to the WHO 24-h movement guidelines (physical activity—PA, screen time—ST, sleep) among Turkish preschoolers and examined associations with parental factors, an area previously unexplored in Türkiye. This cross-sectional study included 282 preschool children (mean age 4.4 ± 0.7 years) and their parents. Children’s PA was objectively measured using pedometers. ST and sleep were parent-reported. Parental factors were assessed using validated scales: the Parental Attitude Scale for Children’s Screen Time (PAS-CST), the Parental Self-Efficacy Scale for Children’s Physical Activity (PSES-CPA), a single-item measure for self-efficacy in limiting ST, and the Parental Screen Use During Child Activities Scale (PSU-CAS). The prevalence of meeting all three criteria was 16.0
Sexual abuse is a significant public health issue, particularly during childhood, with profound negative effects on children, families, and society. Children with visual impairment face a heightened risk of abuse due to their reliance on tactile perception to navigate their environment and their limited ability to discern appropriate from inappropriate touch. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of nurse-led body protection education on the sexual abuse knowledge levels of students with visual impairments. A randomized controlled trial with pre-test, post-test, and follow-up test was conducted. Fifty-three students with visual impairments were randomly allocated to the intervention group (n = 27) or the control group (n = 26). Data were collected using the Children’s Knowledge of Abuse Questionnaire – Revised, at three points: two weeks before the education, two weeks after the education, and two months post-education. The intervention group received nurse-led body protection education in small groups (3–4 students) during 40-minute sessions. The education utilized verbal explanations, a doll, and a distress whistle. Two weeks after the post-test, a reminder brochure prepared in Braille was distributed to the intervention group. The intervention group demonstrated significantly higher post-test and follow-up scores in the “good touch” and “bad touch” subdimensions compared to the control group (p < .05). Additionally, their post-test and follow-up scores were significantly higher than their pre-test scores (p < .05). Nurse-led body protection education effectively improved the sexual abuse knowledge levels of students with visual impairments. This intervention can be feasibly implemented among students with visual impairments to enhance their awareness and protective skills. It was retrospectively registered at ClinicalTrials.gov ( https://clinicaltrials.gov/study/NCT06497803 ) on July 12, 2024 (NCT06497803).
