This study aims to examine the impact of board games on school learning through a systematic review of scientific literature published over the past eight years. The review focuses on the introduction of non-digital board games in compulsory education, specifically in formal education contexts such as Primary and Secondary Education. Data were drawn from 57 articles published in scientific journals during this period, employing systematic literature review frameworks (Tranfield et al., 2003) and adhering to PRISMA guidelines (Moher et al., 2009). A rigorous process of source selection and analysis was conducted, with findings presented according to geographic distribution, educational stages, knowledge areas, types of board games used, and outcomes achieved through interventions. The results reveal a broad geographical distribution of studies, a wide range of curricular areas involved-most notably Natural Sciences and Mathematics-and a preference for games designed by educators and researchers over commercially available ones. Board games were found to offer academic, social, and affective-motivational benefits, although further empirical research is needed to evaluate the effectiveness of board game-based learning in real-world educational settings.
Competency development in Initial Teacher Training is a particularly relevant issue in the field of higher education. Teamwork Competence is considered valuable in the professional education sector and is essential for developing educational innovation at schools. This paper analyzes how teamwork dynamics are applied in the initial teacher training of future physical education teachers and whether they allow the development of this competence. For this, the perception of ten students of the Primary Education (Physical Education) and Sciences of Physical Activity and Sport degrees about the dynamics and experiences of teamwork carried out during their education are examined. The study adopts a qualitative methodological perspective, based on the analysis of the data collected from a discussion group. Through ATLAS.ti software, information was coded and categorized. After this analytical process, results draw a formative model based on teamwork that does not sufficiently qualify for the acquisition of this competence. However, the students show a basic prosocial attitude which is essential to face the challenges of cooperation.
We demonstrate the usefulness of Bayesian methods in developing, evaluating, and using psychological models in the experimental analysis of behavior. We do this through a case study, involving new experimental data that measure the response count and time allocation behavior in pigeons under concurrent random-ratio random-interval schedules of reinforcement. To analyze these data, we implement a series of behavioral models, based on the generalized matching law, as graphical models, and use computational methods to perform fully Bayesian inference. We demonstrate how Bayesian methods, implemented in this way, make inferences about parameters representing psychological variables, how they test the descriptive adequacy of models as accounts of behavior, and how they compare multiple competing models. We also demonstrate how the Bayesian graphical modeling approach allows for more complicated modeling structures, including hierarchical, common cause, and latent mixture structures, to formalize more complicated behavioral models. As part of the case study, we demonstrate how the statistical properties of Bayesian methods allow them to provide more direct and intuitive tests of theories and hypotheses, and how they support the creative and exploratory development of new theories and models.
The current work aims to study how people make predictions, under a reinforcement learning framework, in an environment that fluctuates from trial to trial and is corrupted with Gaussian noise. We developed a computer-based experiment where subjects were required to predict the future location of a spaceship that orbited around planet Earth. Its position was sampled from a Gaussian distribution with the mean changing at a variable velocity and four different values of variance that defined our signal-to-noise conditions. Three reinforcement learning algorithms using hierarchical Bayesian modeling were proposed as candidates to describe our data. The first and second models are the standard delta-rule and its Bayesian counterpart, the Kalman Filter. The third model is a delta-rule incorporating a velocity component which is updated using prediction errors. The main advantage of the later model over the first two is that it assumes participants estimate the trial-by-trial changes in the mean of the distribution generating the observations. We used leave-one-out cross-validation and the widely applicable information criterion to compare the predictive accuracy of the models. In general, our results provided evidence in favor of the model with the velocity term and showed that the learning rate of velocity and the decision noise change depending on the value of the signal-to-noise ratio. Finally, we modeled these changes using an extension of its hierarchical structure that allows us to make prior predictions for untested signal-to-noise conditions.
The creation of an objective, up-to-date and scientifically-based system for diagnosis and evaluation in amateur boxing directly reflects on the quality of the training process and the achievement of high success in the competition. The determination and rationale of the specific scientific problem to be elucidated in the context of this study is related to the insufficient amount of current data on the leading structural features of the physical and psychological status of 13-15-year old boxers. The purpose of this study is to clarify the peculiarities of the psychological profile of 13-15-year-old boxers. The scope of the survey is 161 boxers at 1315 years of 19 boxing club in the Republic of Bulgaria. In the content of the present study, the main focus is the idea of the special importance of the system for diagnosis and evaluation in the boxing. It may serve for improvement of the quality of control in the multi-year training of the athletes is outlined.
We assume a charged particle moving at constant velocity in a twist bend nematic. We calculate the induced polarization in the cholesteric by the electric field generated by the charged particle. From this we obtain the dominant contributions of the radiation field. We study the contribution happening for a slow velocity particle and calculate the radiated energy versus the parameters of the system. [GRAPHICS] .
We consider a constant velocity charged particle travelling in an arbitrary direction by a cholesteric liquid crystal. We calculate the time-dependent-induced polarisation in the cholesteric by the electric field generated by the charged particle. Thus, we express the radiation field originated by the induced dipole distribution in the cholesteric in terms of the cholesteric susceptibility. To simplify our procedure, we write Maxwell equations and the constitutive non-local equation for the cholesteric, in the Fourier space since in this representation the equations turn to be simple difference equations. We solve these equations iteratively by assuming small values for the cholesteric birefringence to find the first-order electric field produced by the charge particle immersed in the cholesteric. This allows us to obtain the dominant contributions of the radiation field one of which is the usual Cherenkov effect. We focus in the terms occurring for hypoluminic charged particle and calculate the radiated energy as a function of observing angle, frequency, velocity and direction with respect to the cholesteric axis.[GRAPHICS].
Over the last few years several studies have emphasized the advantages of cooperative learning to promote motor and social learning in Physical Education. However, what teachers do when they implement this pedagogical model in their Physical Education classes is rarely described. This paper presents an exploratory study aimed at answering this question. One hundred and ninety-eight Spanish Physical Education teachers completed a questionnaire designed to find out how cooperative learning is conceived and applied practically in Primary and Secondary school classes. The results of the study reveal that cooperative learning is still underutilized in Physical Education. Teachers conceive cooperative learning from a perspective close to cooperative play. A new pedagogical approach, called coopedagogy, is then proposed to facilitate teachers in developing an intervention process that allows students to learn how to cooperate and how to use the cooperation as a resource of learning in Physical Education classes.
Abstract.
