Oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, and autophagy imbalance form a vicious cycle driving intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD). However, comprehensive therapeutic strategies remain limited. To address this, we engineered a biomimetic nanoparticle (NPCM@CeO2-RAPA) by encapsulating cerium oxide (CeO2) and rapamycin (RAPA) within a nucleus pulposus cell membrane (NPCM) shell. This biomimetic encapsulation enabled precise targeting of nucleus pulposus cells through membrane fusion. In vitro studies demonstrated that while CeO2 alone alleviated oxidative stress and partially restored mitochondrial function, and RAPA individually modulated autophagy, the combined treatment NPCM@CeO2-RAPA exhibited superior therapeutic effects. In vivo, the composite nanoparticle significantly suppressed catabolic activity and attenuated IVDD progression in a puncture-induced rat IVDD model. These findings highlight NPCM@(CeO2-RAPA) as a precise and synergistic nanotherapeutic with strong translational potential for IVDD management.
BACKGROUND:In recent years, the number of studies on spondylolisthesis has been increasing, and there are many publications on this disorder. To our knowledge, there is no bibliometric analysis of spondylolisthesis to date. AIM:To investigate emerging directions in Spondylolisthesis research and systematically evaluate the academic literature with the highest citation impact within this field. METHODS:All data were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Years of publications, countries, journals, institutions and total number of citations were extracted and analyzed by VOSviewer software. In addition, we analyzed the top 100 most-cited articles on spondylolisthesis. RESULTS:A total of 1831 articles related to spondylolisthesis were identified. The frequency of publications on spondylolisthesis has increased dramatically over time. Among all countries, United States has contributed the most publications on spondylolisthesis (n = 574). The institution with the most articles was the University of California, San Francisco (n = 52). Spine topped the list of journals and has published 291 spondylolisthesis-related reports. The hotspot of research changed from posterolateral fusion to interbody fusion. CONCLUSION:In recent years, academic investigations on spondylolisthesis have exhibited significant growth. As the inaugural bibliometric evaluation in this domain, our research establishes a methodological framework for synthesizing the historical progression and current advancements of spondylolisthesis studies.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a progressive degenerative disorder which severely threatens the quality of life of older individuals. OA progression is closely related to heightened levels of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species (mtROS). Although nanozymes have a good ROS-scavenging effect, they cannot precisely scavenge mtROS because of the immune rejection of cell membranes, lysosomal escape, and the inability of conventional nanozymes to directly target mitochondria. Dual-target nanozymes were engineered to precisely scavenge mtROS in chondrocytes. We used chondrocyte membrane-camouflaged TPP-modified hollow Prussian blue nanozymes and subsequently encapsulated these nanozymes in a hybrid glycyrrhizic acid hydrogel. The therapeutic efficacy and underlying mechanisms were assessed in vitro and in vivo. The novel nanozymes enhanced cell selectivity, immune evasion capabilities, and mitochondrial targeting. The dual-targeted nanozymes exerted a pronounced therapeutic impact on inflammatory chondrocytes, mitigated mtDNA leakage by precisely scavenging mtROS, dampened cGAS-STING-NF-κB signaling, and enhanced chondrocyte function. The hybrid hydrogels also exhibited improved therapeutic outcomes. We confirmed the beneficial effects of the nanozyme-hydrogel combination on OA progression in mice. The nanozyme-hydrogel combination can reduce precisely scavenge mtROS in chondrocytes, avoiding the leakage of mtDNA and suppressing the cGAS-STING-NF-κB signaling pathway, thereby decreasing inflammatory responses and alleviate OA progression.
Background: In many different plants, including Dorstenia and Psoralea corylifolia L., Isobavachalcone (IBC) is a naturally occurring flavonoid chemical having a range of biological actions, including anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, and anti-bacterial. The "Theory of Medicinal Properties" of the Tang Dynasty states that Psoralea corylifolia L. has the ability to alleviate discomfort in the knees and waist. One of the most widespread chronic illnesses, osteoarthritis (OA), is characterized by stiffness and discomfort in the joints. However, there hasn't been much research done on the effectiveness and underlying processes of IBC in the treatment of osteoarthritis. Aim of the study: To investigate the potential efficacy and mechanism of IBC in treating osteoarthritis, we adopted an integrated strategy of network pharmacology, molecular docking and experiment assessment. Materials and methods: The purpose of this research was to determine the impact of IBC on OA and the underlying mechanisms. IBC and OA possible targets and processes were predicted using network pharmacology, including the relationship between IBC and OA intersection targets, Cytoscape protein-protein interaction (PPI) to obtain key potential targets, and GO and KEGG pathway enrichment analysis to reveal the probable mechanism of IBC on OA. Following that, in vitro tests were carried out to confirm the expected underlying processes. Finally, in vivo tests clarified IBC's therapeutic efficacy on OA. Results: We anticipated and validated that the impact of IBC on osteoarthritis is mostly controlled by the PI3KAKT-NF-kappa B signaling pathway by combining the findings of network pharmacology analysis, molecular docking and Experiment Validation. Conclusions: This study reveals the IBC has potential to delay OA development.
Background:The TBS is a new method for clinicians to assess bone quality. It is directly related to the mechanical strength of bone and helps predict fracture risk. The present analysis aimed to the associations between serum PTH level and TBS by analyzing data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).Methods.A total of 3516 participants from the NHANES 2005–2006 were included in this cross-sectional analysis. Independent variables were serum PTH, which a key role in mineral homeostasis and bone metabolism. Outcome variable was TBS. The associations of serum PTH levels with TBS was examined using multivariable linear regression models.Results.After adjusting for covariates, there was a negative association between the serum PTH level and TBS (β= -0.0034; 95% confidence interval, -0.0050– -0.0017). However, in the subgroup analysis stratified by gender, race, and age, this association became negative only in Non-Hispanic White (β = − 0.0047, 95% CI: − 0.0071– − 0.0048) and young people (age<60) (β = − 0.0036, 95% CI: -0.0057, -0.0016). In addition, the association of serum PTH with TBS was an inverted U-shaped curve, with a point of inflection a 6.71 pmol/L.Conclusion:This study showed that serum PTH levels were negative associated with TBS. This finding indicated that maintaining PTH at low levels may be beneficial to bone health, especially for young non-Hispanic white.
Purpose: Percutaneous endoscopic transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (PE-TLIF) has become one of the most popular minimally invasive surgeries today. However, the issue of hidden blood loss (HBL) in this surgery has received little attention. This study aims to examine the HBL in PE-TLIF surgery and the effect of tranexamic acid (TXA) on blood loss. Methods: In our research, We conducted a retrospective analysis of 300 patients who underwent PE-TLIF from September 2019 to August 2023. They were divided into 2 groups based on whether they received intravenous TXA injection before surgery. The variables compared included: demographic data, pre-and postoperative hemoglobin (HB), hematocrit (HCT), platelets (PLT), red blood cells (RBC), total and adverse events. Results: Regarding demographic characteristics, besides the operation time, no significant differences were observed between the two groups. Compared with the control group, the TXA group showed a significant reduction trend in TBL, HBL, and VBL (P < 0.05). On the first day after surgery, there were significant differences in prothrombin (PT), activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), and D-dimer (D-D) levels between the two groups. Similarly, HCT also found similar results on the third day after surgery. No adverse events occurred in either group. Conclusion: Research has found that there is a significant amount of HBL in patients undergoing PE-TLIF. Intravenous injection of TXA can safely and effectively reduce perioperative HBL and VBL. Additionally, compared to the control group, the TXA group shows a significant reduction in operation time.

Background Subglottic Stenosis (SGS), with increasing numbers of studies, is the most specific and common clinical type of Laryngotracheal Stenosis (LTS). There is rapid publication turnover with newer management introduced and expanding research field. To our knowledge, there is no bibliometric analysis of SGS yet. Methods In August 2022, we performed a thorough search in the Web of Science Core Collection database using the word “subglottic stenosis,” and “SGS.” The 580 articles were arranged based on correlation. The collected articles were then analyzed with an assessment of relevant factors. Meanwhile, we analyzed the top 100 most-cited articles on SGS. Results The frequency of publication on SGS has increased substantially over time. The USA has contributed the most articles ( n = 301). Vanderbilt University published most of the articles among other institutions ( n = 18). Laryngoscope topped the list of journals and has published 89 SGS-related articles. Research hotspots shift from surgical treatment to conservative management. Conclusions The SGS-related literature has grown rapidly in recent years. This study represents the first bibliometric analysis of scientific articles on SGS. Areas to improve in SGS research can be identified after this analysis of the most impactful articles on this topic.
Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the correlations of spinopelvic parameters with the quality of life of patients with adult degenerative scoliosis (ADS) after posterior correction, and their relationships with efficacy. Patients and methods: Ninety patients (40 females, 50 males; mean age: 62.4 +/- 3.3 years; range, 47 to 73 years) with adult spinal deformity treated from March 2016 to May 2020 were retrospectively enrolled. The Scoliosis Research Society (SRS)-22 questionnaire was filled in by the patients, and the Oswestry disability index (ODI) and Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for back and lower limb pain were assessed. All the patients underwent posterior correction. Spearman's analysis was conducted for the correlations of the spinopelvic sagittal parameters with quality of life. The risk factors for efficacy were identified using the multivariate logistic regression model to construct a nomogram model for efficacy and risk prediction. Results: After the operation, significant reductions were detected in the sagittal vertical axis (SVA), pelvic tilt (PT), T1 pelvic angle (TPA), pelvic incidence minus lumbar lordosis (PI-LL), and the ODI score (p<0.05). The SVA and LL were significantly negatively correlated with all subitems on the SRS-22 questionnaire but positively correlated with VAS scores for back pain (p<0.05). Thoracic kyphosis was significantly positively correlated with self-image and mental status on the SRS-22 questionnaire (p<0.05), while TPA was negatively correlated with pain and self-image (p<0.05). The PI-LL was significantly negatively correlated with pain (p<0.05). Conclusion: The SVA, LL, PT, and PI-LL were independent predictors of improvement in ODI after operation for ADS. The postoperative changes in spinopelvic parameters affected the clinical outcomes in patients with ADS. Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) refers to the aging and degenerative diseases of intervertebral disc components such as nucleus pulposus, annulus fibrosus, and cartilage endplate, and is the main cause of chronic low back pain. Over the past few years, many researchers around the world concerned that the degeneration of nucleus pulposus (NP) cells plays the main role in IVDD. The degeneration of NP cells is caused by a series of pathological processes, including oxidative stress, inflammatory response, apoptosis, abnormal proliferation, and autophagy. Interestingly, many studies have found a close relationship between the senescence of NP cells and the progression of NP degeneration. The classical aging pathways also have been confirmed to be involved in the pathological process of IVDD. Moreover, several anti-aging drugs have been used to treat IVDD by inhibiting NP cells senescence, such as proanthocyanidins, resveratrol and bone morphogenetic protein 2. Therefore, this article will systematically list and discuss aging, cell senescence, the pathogenesis and targeted therapies of IVDD, in order to provide new ideas for the treatment of IVDD in the future.

Chronic inflammatory diseases, such as intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), which affect the lives of hundreds of millions of people, still lack effective and precise treatments. In this study, a novel hydrogel system with many extraordinary properties is developed for gene–cell combination therapy of IVDD. Phenylboronic acid‐modified G5 PAMAM (G5‐PBA) is first synthesized, and therapeutic siRNA silencing the expression of P65 mixed with G5‐PBA (siRNA@G5‐PBA) is then embedded into the hydrogel (siRNA@G5‐PBA@Gel) based on multi‐dynamic bonds including acyl hydrazone bonds, imine linkage, π – π stacking, and hydrogen bonding interactions. Local and acidic inflammatory microenvironment‐responsive gene‐drug release can achieve spatiotemporal regulation of gene expression. In addition, gene‐drug release from the hydrogel can be sustained for more than 28 days in vitro and in vivo, greatly inhibiting the secretion of inflammatory factors and the subsequent degeneration of nucleus pulposus (NP) cells induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Through prolonged inhibition of the P65/NLRP3 signaling pathway, the siRNA@G5‐PBA@Gel is verified to relieve inflammatory storms, which can significantly enhance the regeneration of IVD when combined with cell therapy. Overall, this study proposes an innovative system for gene–cell combination therapy and a precise and minimally invasive treatment method for IVD regeneration.
Background This study aimed to reveal the associations of osteoporotic vertebral compression refracture (OVCRF) incidence with sarcopenia and paravertebral muscles (PVM). Methods A total of 214 elderly patients who underwent percutaneous kyphoplasty in our hospital between January 2017 and December 2019 were analyzed. Data on possible risk factors, including sex, age, weight, height, diabetes, treated vertebral levels (thoracolumbar junction [(T10–L2]), vacuum clefts, and body mass index (BMI), were collected. Preoperative bone mineral density (BMD) and appendicular muscle mass were evaluated using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Nutritional status was evaluated using the Mini Nutritional Assessment. Magnetic resonance imaging was performed to evaluate the physiological cross-sectional area of the PVM. Results Overall, 74 (15 men and 59 women) and 60 (55 women and 14 men) patients developed OVCRF and sarcopenia, respectively. Sarcopenia is related to advanced age, ower BMD and BMI values. Sarcopenia-related indicators (PVM fat rate, appendicular muscle mass index, grip strength) were significantly lower in the sarcopenia group. Univariate analysis showed a correlation between OVCRF and BMD, BMI, diabetes, sarcopenia, and age. Multivariate analysis suggested that fatty infiltration of the PVM, BMD, sarcopenia, diabetes, BMI, and treated vertebral level remained as the independent predictors of OVCRF ( p < 0.05). Conclusions The association between sarcopenia and PVM as independent risk factors for OVCRF was established in this study; therefore, sarcopenia should be greatly considered in OVCRF prevention.
Objective:To compare the clinical efficacy and safety of anterior cervical decompression and segmental fusion and posterior expansive canal plasty in the treatment of multisegment cervical myelopathy. Methods:Retrospective analysis was performed of 56 cases of multisegment cervical myelopathy patients admitted from July 2018 to June 2021, 32 male patients and 24 females, aged 56.9 ± 12.8 years with an average duration of 10.6 ± 3.2 years. All patients' preoperative imaging examination revealed multiple-segmented cervical disc herniation and had clinical manifestations of cervical myelopathy. Results:No neurovascular complications occurred in both groups, and 24 to 36 months of follow-up (mean 28.6 months) were obtained. The height of the cervical spondylosis segment was higher than that 2 weeks after surgery (p < 0.05), and the curvature of the cervical spine was significantly lower than that before surgery. There was no statistical significance in the height of the anterior column and curvature of the cervical vertebra at 2 weeks after surgery and at the last follow-up (p > 0.05). There were statistically significant differences in anterior curvature of the cervical spine between the two groups at 2 weeks after surgery and the last follow-up (p < 0.05). Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) scores in both groups recovered significantly after surgery. At 3 months and the last follow-up, the improvement rate of JOA score in the anterior approach group was significantly higher than that in the posterior approach group (p < 0.05), and the improvement rate of JOA score in the anterior approach group was also better than that in the posterior approach group (p < 0.05). Conclusion:This segmented anterior fusion procedure can effectively restore the anterior cervical column height and can significantly improve spinal cord function compared with posterior spinal canal enlargement plasty, thus could be considered an effective option for the treatment of multisegment cervical myelopathy.
Background With the aging population growth in the world, the prevalence of osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) is rapidly increasing and receiving widespread attention. Although there are numerous articles on the topic, the research status and hotspot analysis are unclear. Objective The goal of this study is to identify trends in the OVCF field and to analyze the most highly cited original articles published in the Web of Science Index on OVCF using bibliometric analysis. Methods All OVCF data were obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection, and the number of citations, institutions, journals, countries, and years of publication in this field were visually analyzed using VOSviewer, the bibliometrics online analysis platform, and Excel software. Simultaneously, the top 100 most cited articles were extracted and analyzed. Results A total of 756 publications were related to OVCF were included from 1900 to 2022. In recent years, the number of articles on OVCF significantly increased. They are mainly from 41 countries/regions and 202 journals, led by China and the United States. Among all countries, China had the most significant contribution on OVCF (n = 363), and it also was cited most often (n = 3337). The institution with the most articles was Soochow University (n = 40). Osteoporosis International was the journal with most studies and has published 50 on this field. The journal of Spine was cited most often (n = 1968). The most productive periods were from 2016 to 2020, which received 294 articles and 4868 citations. After the analysis, the “vertebroplasty” and “kyphoplasty” of OVCF have been the most common research hotspots. Conclusion This study represents an updated bibliometric analysis of OVCF. The aim is to identify current research hotspots and future trends to guide clinicians and researchers in this field.
Background Lumbar spinal stenosis is one of the common causes of low back and leg pain. Lumbar intervertebral disc degeneration leads to the decrease of intervertebral height, the limitation of vertebral activity, and the biomechanical changes of the lumbar spine, which in turn makes the lumbar anterior convex angle and sacral inclination angle smaller, and the pelvic inclination angle larger, affecting the stress distribution of the lumbar spine aggravating the intervertebral disc degeneration. If the spinal canal stenosis is not corrected for a long time, can cause the cauda equina nerve, nerve root compression, resulting in neurogenic intermittent claudication. If the spinal canal stenosis is not corrected for a long time, can cause the cauda equina nerve, nerve root compression, resulting in neurogenic intermittent claudication. Surgery can correct lumbar stenosis and reconstruct lumbar stability. But the traditional lumbar fusion trauma is huge, even can aggravate pain, spinal canal stenosis. Therefore, more and more patients are more inclined to MIS-TLIF treatment with less surgical trauma. For single-segment lumbar spinal stenosis, MIS-TLIF has the same effect as open surgery in restoring lumbar interbody height and improving lumbar-pelvis balance. Objective Discussion on the effect difference of minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (MIS-TLIF) in the treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis by Quadrant and MED methods. Methods A total of 96patients with lumbar spinal stenosis who were scheduled to undergo MIS-TLIF surgery in Our Hospital from January 2017 to October 2020 were selected and divided into group A and group B according to the surgical channel selection scheme, with 48 cases in each group. The patients in group A were treater with MED channel, and the patients in group B were treated with Quadrant channel. The degree of surgical trauma, VAS score before and postoperative, JOA score, lumbar-pelvic imaging parameters and surgical complications were compared between the two methods. Results The operation time of the A group was shorter than that of the group B(P < 0.05). The blood loss, exposure time under X line, drainage flow and down-ground time in A group were lower than those in B group, which had statistical significance (P<0.05) ; A and B groups of patients were compared, the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05) ; Preoperative, Comparison of VAS scores between A and B groups, the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05) . On the first day of postoperative, the VAS score of group A was lower than that of groupB, which had statistical significance (P < 0.05). Preoperative, Comparison of JOA scores between A and B groups, the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05) ; Comparison of JOA scores between 1 month ,3 months and 6 months in Postoperative, the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05). The JOA scores of the two groups at 1 month, 3 months and 6 months postoperative were significantly lower than those Preoperative (P < 0.05). Six months postoperative, the lumbar anterior convex angle, segmental anterior convex angle and intervertebral height of the two groups were significantly higher than those Preoperative (P<0.05), and the pelvic inclination angle of the two groups was lower than that Preoperative (P<0.05).Conclusion MIS-TLIF in the treatment of patients with lumbar spinal stenosis using MED channel or Quadrant channel operation has curative effect, and there is little difference in the recovery of lumbar-pelvis imaging parameters, but the former has the advantages of less surgical trauma and lower postoperative pain.
Study Design: A prospective study. Objectives: Intervertebral disc degenerative disease is a common and frequently-occurring disease in adults and is the main cause of lower back pain. However, there is a lack of universal animal models to study disc degeneration. Methods: Forty-two male New Zealand white rabbits aged 12 months were used in this study. We established an endplate ischemic disc degeneration model though surgical ligation of rabbit lumbar vertebral body segment arteries. Two weeks after surgery, 6 experimental animals were randomly selected for follow-up tests. First, ischemia and lumbar disc degeneration were confirmed using imaging techniques. Then, immunohistochemical staining was performed to observe the growth of the annulus fibrosus. Finally, quantitative polymerase chain reaction, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and western blotting were used to detect mRNA expression and protein content of IL-1α, TNFα, collagen II, MMP-3, aggrecan, and PLA2 in the nucleus pulposus of the disc. Results: Imaging examination confirmed the successful construction of a lumbar disc degeneration model. Histological analysis and biochemical analysis showed a damaged intervertebral disc structure, and collagen II and aggrecan, the key extracellular matrix components of intervertebral discs, were reduced in synthesis and content. The synthesis and expression of IL-1α, TNFα, PLA2, and MMP-3 related to disc catabolism and inflammatory response were enhanced. Conclusions: We successfully constructed a lumbar disc degeneration ischemia model, which provides a novel approach to study the pathological mechanisms involved in discogenic low back pain and to prevent and treat discogenic low back pain.
BACKGROUND:Osteoporosis is a systemic bone disease characterized by decreased bone density and deterioration of bone microstructure, leading to an increased probability of fragility fractures. Once segmental bone defect occurs, it is easy to cause delayed union and nonunion.METHODS:The aim of this study is to investigate the efficacy of extracorporeal shock wave (ESW) and teriparatide-loaded hydrogel (T-Gel) combined strategy on the cell activity and differentiation of osteoporosis derived bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (OP-BMSCs) in vitro and bone regeneration in osteoporotic segmental bone defects in vivo.RESULTS:In vitro, the strategy of combining ESW and T-Gel significantly enhanced OP-BMSCs proliferation, survival, migration, and osteogenic differentiation by up-regulating the alkaline phosphatase activity, mineralization, and expression of runt-related transcription factor-2, type I collagen, osteocalcin, and osteopontin. In the segmental bone defect models of osteoporotic rabbits, Micro-CT evaluation and histological observation demonstrated this ESW-combined with T-Gel injection significantly induced bone healing by enhancing the osteogenic activity of the local microenvironment in osteoporotic defects.CONCLUSION:In conclusion, ESW-combined with T-Gel injection could regulate the poor osteogenic microenvironment in osteoporotic defects and show potential for enhancing fragility fractures healing.
Objective To assess the clinical efficacy and share the technique notes of Wiltse Approach TLIF for the treating single segment degenerative lumbar spinal disease. Method In this retrospective controlled study, 780 patients with single segment degenerative lumbar disease who were operated in our hospital from January 2016 to December 2020 were analyzed retrospectively. The patients were randomly assigned to Wiltse approach group (group A, 410 cases) and conventional open approach group (group B, 370 cases). Patient's assessment of pain and disability were evaluated by the visual analogue scale (VAS) and the Oswestry disability index (ODI) before and after surgery. The incision length, operative time, exposure time, intraoperative blood loss, hidden blood loss, time to ambulation, total length of hospitalization, serum creatine kinase, X‐rays, CT and MRI were also evaluated. Results There were no differences in sex, age, pre‐operative ODI score, VAS score between the two groups (P > 0.05). The Wiltse approach group had a shorter incision length with 7.69 ± 0.44 cm compared to the conventional group with 11.13 ± 0.36 cm (P < 0.01). The average operative time was 119.20 ± 14.64 min with exposure time of 16.20 ± 3.42 min in the Wiltse approach group and 145.65 ± 16.98 min with 29.20 ± 3.42 min in the conventional group (P < 0.05, P < 0.01). Comparing the intraoperative blood loss, hidden blood loss, serum creatine kinase, time to ambulation, total length of hospitalization, the Wiltse approach group was less than the conventional open approach group (P < 0.05). The VAS score of the two groups decreased significantly with time, and the VAS score of the Wiltse group was significantly lower than that of the conventional open approach group (P < 0.05). At last investigation after operation, ODI scores of the two groups were significantly decreased compared with that before operation. Wiltse approach group was significantly lower than that of the conventional open approach group (P < 0.05). The multifidus of the two groups of patients had a certain degree of atrophy. But the Wiltse approach group multifidus muscle atrophy rate is significantly lower than the conventional open approach group. Conclusion The Wiltse approach TLIF significantly reduces the damage to the paravertebral muscles and the postoperative incidence of chronic low back pain.
BACKGROUND:In recent years, there has been increasing research on adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS), leading to many publications on this topic. To our knowledge, no study has focused on the research trends in this field. METHODS:Using the Web of Science Core Collection database for all articles on AIS, the number of citations, authorship, year of publication, journal of publication, country and institution of origin, and keywords were subjected to co-occurrence analysis using VOSviewer software. The top 100 most-cited articles on AIS were analyzed. RESULTS:Between 1985 and 2020, 2266 articles related to AIS were identified. The frequency of publication on AIS has increased substantially over time. Among all countries, the United States has contributed the most articles on AIS (n = 671). The most productive institution has been Nanjing University (n = 154). Spine topped the list of journals and has published 569 AIS-related articles, which received 19,862 total citations. The clinical description of AIS has been the most common research focus in the AIS literature. CONCLUSIONS:The scientific literature on AIS has rapidly expanded in recent years. This study represents the updated bibliometric analysis of scientific articles on AIS and provides a research trend for the first time, which aims to give a unique insight into the development of AIS research focus and serve as a useful guide to clinicians and researchers in the field.
