Introducción y objetivosEl tratamiento del eritema facial, cualquiera que sea su etiología, no es una tarea sencilla.Muchos son los desórdenes cutáneos faciales que cursan con eritema; entre alguno de ellos: las manifestaciones de una piel sensible, el enrojecimiento de las pieles reactivas, la rojez facial persistente o no, de las personas que evidencian telangiectasias e inclusive, los episodios de exacerbación de la rosácea eritematotelangiectásica.El objetivo del presente ensayo de eficacia fue evaluar, bajo control dermatológico, la eficacia del tratamiento tópico LetiSR Crema Anti-Rojeces y LetiSR Crema Anti-Rojeces con color en pacientes con eritrosis, cuperosis y/o rosácea grado I, en la zona facial.Pacientes y métodoVeinte mujeres con diagnóstico de eritrosis, cuperosis y/o rosácea grado I, realizaron el tratamiento con 2 cremas con factor de protección solar 20 (con y sin color), 2 veces al día y durante 60 días. Se realizaron en las mejillas las siguientes medidas instrumentales a 0, 30 y 60 días de tratamiento: hidratación cutánea, pérdida transepidérmica de agua, intensidad de la rojez, microcirculación y grosor cutáneo. Se obtuvieron también imágenes digitales. El dermatólogo realizó un examen visual clínico a 0, 30 y 60 días de tratamiento y los voluntarios hicieron una evaluación subjetiva al final del ensayo.ResultadosEl tratamiento aumenta la hidratación cutánea un 24% en 30 días y un 33% en 60 días, aumenta el grosor cutáneo un 1% en 30 días y un 3% en 60 días, reduce la TEWL un 2% en 30 días y un 12% en 60 días, reduce la intensidad de la rojez un 5% en 30 días y un 19% en 60 días y reduce el flujo sanguíneo cutáneo un 11% en 30 días y un 33% en 60 días. El dermatólogo evidencia una reducción del eritema a los 30 días del 24% y a los 60 días del 59% y una reducción de las telangiectasias del 45% a los 60 días. Ninguno de los productos mostró ser comedogénico. Los parámetros mejor valorados por las voluntarias han sido la sensación de piel menos sensible y reactiva, más suave e hidratada, disminución de la dilatación de los capilares sanguíneos, protección frente a agresiones ambientales, disminución del grado de rojez cutáneo, reducción de los periodos de flushing, efecto calmante, disimulo de las imperfecciones de la piel y capacidad de absorción de las cremas.ConclusionesLos resultados del estudio permiten concluir que las cremas LetiSR Crema Anti-Rojeces y LetiSR Crema Anti-Rojeces con color, están indicadas en el cuidado y tratamiento diarios de la eritrosis facial de las pieles sensibles y reactivas, cuperosis y rosácea eritematotelangiectásica, aportando hidratación, reforzando la integridad funcional del endotelio de los capilares y las propiedades mecánicas del tejido conectivo dérmico.

Summary Topicall y appli ed cosmetic products can be helpful in improving aged skin condition. The study shows how oral fi sh cartilage food supple me ntation can be help ful in improving the treatment of aging skin. 30 healthy women with signs of skin agein g entered the study. 15 were treated with a food supplement based on polysaccharides derived from fi sh cartilage and a natural mix of antioxi dants for 2 months a nd 15 with a placebo. Clini ca! evalu ati on as wel l as macrophotographic docu me ntation was taken in order to moni tor product effects. Parameters considered were: dryness, skin tone, age spots, fin e lines. The results showed stati sticall y significant improvement in the acti ve treated group as compared to th e pl acebo. In parti cul ar, fin e lines (p<0.002), skin dry ness (p<0.003), skin tone (p<0.02), showed considerabl e improvement. No significant changes were detected fo r age s pots. Most of these parameters are related to changes occurring within the de rmal matrix , whi ch is improved after treatment, while most of the topicall y applied cosmeti c products have a short term effect on superficial structures. A combinati on treatme nt (oral a nd topica!) can be more effecti ve in reducing the signs of skin agi ng.
Introduction: Cellulite (from Italian “cellulite”) is a widely used term to indicate a common condition afflicting women (ie, fat-lobular hypertrophy, which is localized mainly on thighs and buttocks). Despite the fact that several physiopathologic factors have been proposed for localized fat-lobular hypertrophy, the arena seems to be limited to vascular damage and lobular hypertrophy. These 2 components are known as the possible target of many different plant extracts, which may play an important role in influencing and reducing vascular damage and lobular hypertrophy. Materials and Methods: This study was aimed at evaluating the efficacy of a multifunctional plant complex in the treatment of localized fat-lobular hypertrophy. The study was carried out on a group of 25 subjects with clinical evidence of cellulite and on a control group of 15 subjects that received a placebo (2 capsules per day for a period of 2 months). The instrumental investigation measured baseline, intermediate, and final values of the following biophysical parameters: weight; arterial blood pressure; circumference of hips, thighs, and ankles; cutaneous fold thickness of hips; and measurement of the superficial microcirculation. Moreover, there was also a baseline and final assessment of circulating thyroid hormones and clotting analysis. Evaluation of the antioxidant efficacy of the product was tested and proved. Results: Volunteers' weight remained relatively constant during the study. Significant variations were recorded in the measurements of other biophysical cutaneous parameters (the circumference of hips, thighs, ankles; cutaneous fold thickness; skin microcirculation; and ultrasonography) in the group that had used the nonplacebo product, whereas the group who used the placebo did not present any significant variations. The thermographic data recorded a significant increase at the end of treatment. Significant variations in arterial blood pressure measurements, already 1 month after treatment in the first group, were observed. Thyroid function remained within normal range both before and after treatment; the variation in total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, and triglycerides were of no significance. No significant alterations were noted in the prothrombin concentration, whereas activated partial thromboplastine time (aPTT) and fibrinogen values were significantly increased in the treated volunteers. There was a significant reduction of the lipid peroxidase count and increase in the plasma total antioxidant capacity in the subjects who were nonsmokers and smokers. Conclusions: The data collected indicate that this multifunctional plant complex can reduce the dimensions of thighs and hips; decrease the thickness of underlying fat tissue while maintaining relatively constant body weight; and in particular improve blood circulation, which leads to the improvement of heat perfusion.
Background/aims: Areas of the skin with similar anatomical structure may have different functional behaviour. In vivo barrier function and stratum corneum water‐holding capacity during the menstrual cycle on two sites of the volar forearm (upper and lower) and on the anterior aspect of the thigh were evaluated using the plastic occlusion stress test (POST). Methods: 13 healthy women (age 31 ± 4) with regular menses entered the study. POST was performed by applying a plastic chamber (1.8 cm diameter) on the skin for 24 h. After removal the skin surface water loss (SSWL) was measured using an evaporimeter (EP1‐Servomed, Sweden) every 5 min for 30 min. Measurements were taken on the 10th and 25th day of the menstrual cycle. Statistical analysis was performed using one‐factor A nova for repeated measures. Free and bound water compartments of evaporation were also analysed. Results: Higher hydration and SSWL were detectable on the 25th day of the cycle. However, no significant influence of menstrual cycle was found. Significant differences between the upper and lower volar foream were detected ( P < 0.001). Conclusion: The differences observed were mainly related to the evaporation of bound water, confirming a different barrier function at the sites investigated; therefore, it must be taken into account that adjacent skin sites with equal structure may have different functional behaviour.
