Coinciding with a time when the world is confronted with major changes unseen in a century, China’s area studies has emerged and been accredited as a first-tier discipline among interdisciplinary studies. As an important component of the discipline of foreign languages, French studies will support the construction of area studies with Chinese characteristics by serving, directly or indirectly, as an explorer of academic resources, a developer of research approaches, and an incubator of core talents. To this end, French studies should, among others, reinvent its curricula and programs, foster the academic community of French and francophone studies and overcome the challenges in its participation in the construction of area studies. Just as French studies enables area studies, area studies, in turn, advances the development of French studies. The synergic progression of both disciplines is arguably a matter of necessity.

Depuis plus de trente ans, les études fran?aises menées par les chercheurs chinois ont connu une évolution. Le centre de gravitédes recherches passe progressivement du savoir vers l’utilité. L’aspect appliquél’emporte sur l’aspect théorique. Avec l’accélération de la globalisation et l’approfondissement de la relation bilatérale, les questions posées par les chercheurs se concrétisent. L’approche comparative est de plus en plus fréquemment utilisée et les sujets aujourd’hui dépassent largement les thèmes classiques comme la politique interne de la France, son r?le sur la scène internationale ou la relation sino-fran?aise malgré leur importance prédominante. La multiplication des recherches est marquée par une grande diversification. Les expériences et les bonnes pratiques de la France dans presque tous les domaines intéressent des chercheurs chinois. Ceci montre que les études fran?aises en Chine se sont engagées dans une voie vers la pluralitéet l’interdisciplinarité.
