This article presents an overview of the work of the scientific session “The Social Space of Labor and of Labor Management: Education, Employment, and Human Capital” held at the 10th St Petersburg International Labor Forum (April 8–10, 2026). The session was organized by the Department of Social Management and Planning at St Petersburg State University. Three thematic scientific papers were presented as part of the session. The first paper analyzed the sociological concepts of neuromanagement in relation to the application of its tools to improve labor productivity. The second paper presented the results of a pilot sociological study of the social characteristics of integrating AI into management processes in organizations. The third paper was based on a secondary analysis of materials from a pilot sociological study of informal permanent unpaid overtime employment, focusing on how employees develop strategies to respond to employers’ imposition of overtime work. The article summarizes the scientific discussion on the presented thematic papers and other issues related to the development of labor relations.
The article summarizes the discussion on the issues of labor, employment, human capital and its management that was had at a meeting of the scientific section of the Department of Economic Sociology of St Petersburg State University as part of the IX St Petersburg International Labor Forum, which was held on April 2–4 2025 in St Petersburg. The article summarizes three reports given at the section meeting that were devoted to the issues of pointless labor in the organization and management of it, the problem of forced overtime employment in Russian organizations and models of its construction by employers, the problem of labor organization in the workplace. The article also summarizes the scientific discussion as part of discussing the reports as well as other issues of the development of the labor sphere.
Personnel management is one of the most important management functions due to the fact that the person in the organization has been and remains the main productive and creative force, despite the fact that often much more attention is paid to the issues of mechanization and automation of production and other aspects of the development of technology and technology. The key place in the management of human resources in the management of an organization is determined by the fact that any enterprise always acts not only as a subject of economic activity, but also as a social system, the characteristics of which are determined by the social qualities of workers and their needs. This is typical both for state enterprises and organizations, and for various entrepreneurial ones, and therefore the problems associated with the development of the human capital of organizations become paramount in the management. The current paper contains an examination of the specifics of the Chinese model of personnel management. To achieve this, we investigated the management of personnel as an important management function, gave a characterization of the guanxi system in the management of Chinese staff, and examined the specifics of the implementation of the guanxi system in the personnel management system of China.
The article is devoted to the understanding of digital government transformation (DGT) as key to improving public administration and governance. The paper complements the debate regarding DGT rationale in public administration, providing theoretical and empirical analysis of its socio-economic impact and performance in governance. The empirical part is based on two regression analyses exploring indicators of DGT and public administration performance. The article concludes that (1) DGT is understood as innovation, but innovation in the public sector is also commonly associated with DGT, (2) this innovation helps to reshape the governance to match the society's needs, (3) the policy-based approach to DGT is not enough explanation of its rationale and efficiency, and (4) there are certain improvements in the socio-economic sphere that are related to DGT and thus help one understand its meaning for the contemporary world.
The article addresses polemology as a new academic discipline as part of modern sociological education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. he necessity of the discipline is related to the lack of students’ comprehensive understanding of war and military actions in the context of current social processes, which, in turn, can lead to negative consequences. The aim of this discipline is a comprehensive and integrated consid-eration of war as a social institution, as well as to contribute to the development of students’ scientifically grounded understanding of war and peace both in the unified space of global society and in the context of Rus-sian national interests. Forms and methods of constructing teaching material for both lecture and practical clas-ses are presented. Particular attention is paid to innovative interactive teaching methods and enhancing the creative search of students.
Article is devoted to the analysis problems of modern Russian convergent journalism and blogosphere. Convergence as a convergence of the roles of different participants in the media process in a common niche affects the blurring of the barrier between the journalist and his audience, as well as the performance of different types of journalistic activities by one person (universal journalist). We made the conclusion that modern convergent journalism is a tool in the management of randomness with the generation of self-organization in the field of mass communication on social media platforms. The broad convergence format ensures the interpretation of official media content and blogosphere accounts.
The paper presents the results of a study conducted in 2018 in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Russia. The big part of the territory of this region is located in the Arctic, which has a low population density and large distances between settlements, which increases the importance of public consent for the effectiveness of public administration. The aim of the study was to determine the level of transparency of public authorities in their interaction with civil society. The authors did a corpus-based content analysis of administrative regulations and conduct the questionnaire survey (N = 439). It has been established that Russian civil society has a request to participate in the adoption of state decisions, but at the same time, citizens are not ready to fully implement public control.
This paper is devoted to the code of ethics as a tool for ethical conflict management in service sector organizations in the same way as in financial institutions in St. Petersburg, Russia. It was compiled on the basis of three previous studies: a pilot survey among service workers in 2014 (N 135) that identified problems, set goals and objectives, facilitated developing and testing methodological tools; formalized interview in 2015-2017 (N 483, including 64 managers and 419 employees), when primary empirical information was accumulated; analytical and project research in 2017-2018, whose purpose was to process and analyze the data obtained, to identify the conditions for the establishment of a behavioral ethics for service workers, and to develop practical design recommendations and social technology to build a behavioral ethics for service employees. Thus, this study determined that the code of ethics design and implementation will prevent conflict occurrences at a service sector company. The conclusion was that the introduction and operation of a code of ethics require the involvement not only of company frontline employees, but also of the CEOs.
This article presents the study of religious pluralism and decolonization of Indian mind. The paper analyzes the investigation results concerning psychological features of modern Indian students from universities in Russia and India. For measuring of connection between religious pluralism and decolonization of Indian mind we made socio-psychological investigation of Indian students. We made 254 semi-structured interview with Indian students who are studying in Russia and India. According to the result of investigation that decolonization of Indian mind is connected with the level of religious pluralism. Among the values principles of religious pluralism get more significance and importance in decolonizing mind of Indian students.
The relevance of this topic is due to the high degree of importance of corporate culture in solving problems of improving company performance and HR management. Studying and analyzing this issue becomes essential for productive work of organization, effective staff motivation, stabilization of employees work in the company, obtaining high production and economic performance. The article describes a study on this topic, in the course of which two questionnaires were conducted, the results allowed to develop recommendations to improve corporate culture in the studied IT-sector company. The first was an OCAI questionnaire to determine the predominant and preferred corporate culture in the studied company, and the second was to identify the level of employee satisfaction with the motivational role of the company's corporate culture.. It has also analyzed the level of employee engagement, number and reasons of employee dismissal during the period under study, and calculated the turnover rate. As a result, up-to-date data on the prevailing and preferred corporate culture in the studied company was obtained, employees' opinions on the existing motivation system were revealed, and recommendations for improving corporate culture in the company were developed, which will increase the effectiveness of employee motivation, stabilize staff performance, thereby reducing staff turnover and improving company performance.
The paper is devoted to the consideration of the concept of massovization as the modern trend of social system. Mass communication is closely connected to the development of spheres of modern society: economy, politics and culture. It covers international, inter- group and interpersonal relations. Mass communications has the public nature and serve as the massovization that is uniting people around common ideas, political views, values, consumption patterns. The object of the impact of mass communication is directly the person (audience). The audience as a consumer of information is not just an object of influence, but also a participant in communication. We made the conclusion that the improvement of mass communication, based on the development of human culture, shows how the speed of massovization exchange gradually increased.
The paper is devoted to the analysis of the historical background, the conditions of the formation and spread of the Salafi movement in Egypt. R. Meyer, E. Mirishli, M. Razbadinov, and other historians and political scientists conducted the investigation of Salafi movement and its various assessments. The purpose of given paper is to present the role of Salafi movement in the modern political life of Egypt, to substantiate the role of supporters of the movement in resolving the conflict situation in the country.We made the conclusion that Salafism is not a uniform phenomenon. In Egypt, part of representative of this movement supported the events of the “Arab Spring”, part was the supporters of the military take-over.
The findings of our previous research of the social construction of the ethics of the employees of the service industry in St. Petersburg in 2014 (N135) and in 2016 (N483) have been added to the modern research analysis of ethics constructing processes in an organization. The article presents a managerial aspect of the problem, specifically the development of a social technology for constructing service workers’ ethics of behavior. The results of the technology introduction into the activities of an organization in Russia are also submitted for consideration.
O artigo é dedicado ao estudo dos princípios de transparência da administração pública na República de Sakha (Yakutia). Para Yakutia - a região ártica da Federação Russa, a disponibilidade das instituições da sociedade civil para participar ativamente da solução de problemas sociais é uma questão importante. Em 2018, foi realizado um estudo sobre a avaliação das práticas sociais de organização da interação entre o serviço público e os cidadãos da República de Sakha (Yakutia). Na primeira etapa, os autores fizeram uma análise de conteúdo baseada em 28 regulamentos administrativos. Na segunda etapa, foi aplicado questionário. Os entrevistados são estudantes (N = 280) e funcionários públicos (N = 139). Os resultados mostraram que é necessário garantir abertura e transparência no processo de tomada de decisões. No entanto, os cidadãos ainda não estão prontos para participar ativamente da administração pública.
The paper deals with analysis of trends of development of Ethnopolitical media communications in Russia. We focused on new trends and challenges of the information society, which impact the development of ethno-political media communications and the effectiveness of the implementation of government policy in the sphere of ethnopolitical media communications. We concentrated on communication problems and the directions of the use of media communications by ethnopolitical actors. Thus, we made the conclusion that the development of a global information society and the existing challenges to the unity of the multinational people of Russia make ethno-political relations in the media sphere vulnerable and important for piarological and politological analysis.
The paper is devoted to the analysis of the problem of integrated marketing communications and commercial success. Integrated marketing communications have recently attracted close attention from representatives of science and practice and are one of the central components of the communication process. In our opinion, integrated marketing communications include the integration of all marketing tools in order to provide clarity, consistency and maximum communication impact on the consumer and cooperation with all participants in the market environment to achieve results, taking into account the limitations of the macro-environment. We made the conclusion that understanding all the advantages and eliminating barriers in the early stages plays an important role in the successful implementation of the integrated marketing communications and, as a result, leads to the commercial success of the company.
In this paper we made analysis of the use of information and communication technologies in the educational process is one of the modern trends in pre-school education. Information and communication technology tools help the teacher to diversify the forms of support for the educational process, to improve the quality of work with pupils' parents, and also to popularize the activities of the teacher in the group and the kindergarten as a whole. We made the conclusion, that in the future, expanding the use of information and communication technologies in kindergarten when interacting with parents: creating video clips (videos) with the participation of children, using an electronic photo frame to inform parents about the events of the past day, etc. We will be glad if our work in this direction after reading helps teachers more actively use information and communication technologies to enhance the participation of parents in the educational process of preschool.
