Climbing perch, Anabas testudineus, is one of the important freshwater fish species with a high economic value. Currently, the climbing perch fish has been cultivated in Indonesia and other Asian countries. But, breeding has not been supported by good hatchery technology, so the availability of high-quality larvae in sufficient quantities has not been resolved. In artificial spawning, hormone injections are often carried out to stimulate the ovulation process in fish. In this study, the OVASPEC was tested for climbing perch. Ovaspec contains the sGnRHa hormone and anti-dopamine. Therefore, the objective of the present study is to determine the optimum dosage of OVASPEC for climbing perch female broodfish. Four dosages of OVASPEC were tested, namely, 0.1 ml kg−1 body weight (BW), 0.3 ml kg−1 BW, 0.5 ml kg−1 BW, and 0.7 ml kg−1 BW of broodfish. The results show that the administration of OVASPEC with different doses had a significant effect (p < 0.05) on the latency period, fertilization, hatching, and survival rates of climbing perch. Fish injected with OVASPEC at a dose range of 0.1–0.7 ml kg−1 BW succeeded in inducing ovulation in climbing perch. The best results were recorded at the dosage of 0.5 ml kg−1 BW.
This study aims to determine the effect of periodic starvation on feed efficiency and growth rate of Jelawat fish (Leptobarbus hoevenii) fingerlings. A completely randomized design (CRD) was used with four treatments and five replications, namely treatment A (control), treatment B (1 day of fasting and 1 day of feeding), treatment C (1 day of fasting and 2 days of feeding), treatment D (1 day fasting 3 days feeding). The results showed that periodic starvation had a significant effect (P<0.05) on absolute weight growth, specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), feed efficiency (EP) and Survival Rate (SR) but had no significant effect (P>0.05) on the absolute length growth of Jelawat fish. This study showed that the optimum absolute growth values in length, absolute weight, specific growth rate, feed efficiency, and feed conversion ratio were in treatment D with absolute length growth values of 2.40 ± 0.07 cm, growth absolute weight 2.82 ± 0.13gram, specific growth rate 1.14 ± 0.04%/day, feed efficiency 99.03 ± 1.08% and feed conversion ratio 1.01 ± 0.01 respectively. Thus the starvation has a significant result in saving the feeding cost effectively.
Oysters are a coastal natural resource utilized by communities as a source of livelihood. This study aims to assess the growth in length and weight of oysters (Crassostrea sp.) under different stocking densities in ponds located in Alue Naga. The experimental method used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three treatments, each repeated three times, consisting of densities of 30, 35, and 40 individuals per 1500 cm². Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), followed by Duncan's test. The results showed that different stocking densities significantly affected (P<0.05) the absolute length growth, absolute weight growth, and weekly length growth rate. The average results indicated that treatment A with a stocking density of 30 individuals per 1500 cm² achieved an absolute length of 45.51 mm, absolute weight growth of 35.23 grams, and a weekly length growth rate of 3.87 mm/week. Treatment B with a density of 35 individuals per 1500 cm² achieved an absolute length of 39.07 mm, absolute weight growth of 32.91 grams, and a weekly length growth rate of 3.25 mm/week. In contrast, treatment C with a density of 40 individuals per 1500 cm² resulted in an absolute length of 31.35 mm, absolute weight growth of 31.53 grams, and a weekly length growth rate of 2.61 mm/week. The highest growth rates were observed in treatment A with a density of 30 individuals per 1500 cm².
The technology transfer program for processing Thok fish sausages has been implemented for the fisherwomen in Gampong Neuheun. Based on interviews, the main issues faced are the lack of skills in using materials, tools, and technology for processing Thok fish products. Additionally, the absence of a coordinating business entity for fish processing reduces community motivation. The aim of this activity is to provide Thok fish sausage processing technology to the fisherwomen in Gampong Neuheun. The implementation methods include surveys, socialization, and training, with evaluations through pre-tests and post-tests. Results show a 90% increase in skills and knowledge, as well as an 85% increase in motivation. This training facilitates the management of fish catches during the harvest season.
This research aims to analyze morphometrics of (P. penicillatus) and (P. versicolor) in waters of Sabang. A total of 50 samples from each species of P. penicillatus and P. versicolor were used for morphometric analysis using Traditional Morphometric and Truss Morphometric approaches. Morphological analysis indicated that both lobster species are categorized into two distinct groups. Traditional morphometric character testing using ANOVA showed that species differences significantly influence the variation in morphological characters (P<0.05) in both lobsters. Further Duncan post hoc tests revealed that four characters (HL), (CHW), and (CHL)) differed significantly between the species. P. penicillatus shared three characters similar to P. versicolor, namely (HL), (CHW), and (CHL). This similarity is based on the shape of HL, CHW, and CHL in both lobsters. In the Truss Morphometric character testing with ANOVA, it was found that species differences affect the characters significantly (P<0.05). The Duncan post hoc test revealed that five characters ([A1, A3], [B1, B3], [C5, C6], D4, [D5, D6]) differed significantly between species. DFA resulted in 1 function, with an eigenvalue of 27.595, indicating that it explains 100% of the total variance. The morphological characters that significantly contribute to the differentiation between species are A1, B1, C5, A5, and D5.
Microplastics are small plastics measuring <5mm which, if they enter the water, can contaminate aquatic biota such as shrimp. The research aims to identify the number, shape and color of microplastics in shrimp bodies in vanname shrimp cultivation businesses on the East Coast of Aceh. Shrimp samples were taken from 3 stations, namely Pidie, Pidie Jaya and Bireuen. The samples were measured for weight and length, then prepared using H2O2 and H2SO4 in a ratio of 3:1 20 mL then incubated, heated, then filtered and identified using a Zeiss microscope with 40x magnification. The results obtained from shrimp body samples contained 2 types of microplastics, namely fiber and film. The most dominant microplastics at the three stations were 13 particles in the Pidie location, 9 particles in the Pidie Jaya location and 5 microplastic particles in the Bireuen location. The presence of microplastics that have entered the body of biota in the vannamei shrimp cultivation business is an early warning. So it is necessary to develop research on other consumption biota to determine the presence of microplastics and their impact if consumed by the public.
There is no known artificial breeding method for depik fish Rasbora tawarensis. Sperm extender and the dilution ratio are crucial factors in the artificial breeding of fish. The current study aimed to assess the effect of several common fish sperm extenders and its dilution ratio on sperm characteristics and fertilization of depik fish eggs. Two series of experiments were performed to find the best extender and its dilution ratio. In the first experiment, five types of extenders were tested: Ringer’s solution, physiological solution, coconut water, sugarcane water, and roomie water. The second experiment studied four dilution levels of sperm and extender (v/v): 1:20, 1:30, 1:40, and 1:50. Every treatment was conducted in four replicates and the experiments were conducted consequently so that the findings in the first experiment were applied in the second. The first experiment showed that Ringer’s is the best extender for depik sperm with sperm motility, fertilization and hatching rates of 71.00%, 69.30%, and 53.66%, respectively; and the second experiment revealed that Ringer’s at dilution ratio 1:40 gave higher sperm motility, fertilization, and hatching rates of 74.66, 70.33, and 59.00%, respectively. In conclusion, Ringer’s solution was the most favorable extender for sperm which yielded best fertilization results at 1:40 dilution ratio (sperm:extender, v/v) in depik fish.

Histological description of hepatopancreas in spiny lobster (Panulirus penicillatus) and bamboo lobster (Panulirus versicolor) in Sabang Waters, Aceh, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 25: 3739-3749. This study aimed to analyze the histology of the hepatopancreas in two lobster species, Panulirus penicillatus (Olivier, 1791) and Panulirus versicolor (Latreille, 1804), originating from Sabang waters. The primary objectives were to identify and compare the cellular composition and structural differences within the hepatopancreas of both species and to understand how these differences might reflect adaptations to their distinct local environments and dietary conditions. The histological analysis was conducted on the hepatopancreas of 10 specimens from each species using the paraffin section method and Hematoxylin-Eosin (H&E) staining. The results showed striking differences in the tubule cells between the two species. In P. penicillatus, B-cells were found to be more dominant, whereas in P. versicolor, F-cells were more prevalent. Additionally, the study observed significant variations in the size and arrangement of the Tubules, as well as the distribution of different cell types within the hepatopancreas. These differences likely reflect adaptations to their distinct local environments and dietary conditions in Sabang waters. The hepatopancreas, a vital organ for digestion, nutrient absorption, and detoxification, showed distinct histological features in the two lobster species. Understanding these variations provides valuable insights into their biological and physiological adaptations. The research highlights the importance of species-specific studies to comprehend the ecological and physiological adaptations of marine organisms. Furthermore, these findings have significant practical implications for the management and cultivation of these lobster species. By understanding the histological differences and their underlying causes, better strategies can be developed for the conservation and sustainable exploitation of these valuable marine resources. The study underscores the role of histological analysis in assessing the health and condition of lobster populations, which is crucial for effective management.
This study aims to investigate the effect of the different concentration of RABAL (yeast and lactic acid bacteria) probiotics on the survival, feed conversion, growth and intestinal cells changes of tiger shrimp Penaeus monodon Fab. larvae. This study used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method with 4 treatments and 4 replications. Tiger shrimp with average size of 0.02 g was randomly stocked in each container containing RABAL with concentration of 0 ppm (A/control), 75 ppm (B), 150 ppm (C), and 225 ppm (D) with frequency once a day for 30 days. Data were analysed using one way ANOVA. The result showed that the application of RABAL with different doses into the shrimp culture media significantly influences (P0.05) the growth and food conversion ratio of tiger shrimp feed but did not significantly affect (P 0.05) on the survival rate. The value of water quality parameters in this study were still at normal levels for tiger shrimp rearing. As conclusion, the application of probiotics RABAL with different concentrations have positive effect on the absolute weight, absolute length, specific growth rate, feed conversion ratio and intestinal villi surface area of tiger shrimp larvae, without adverse effect on the survival rate of tiger shrimp seed.
Barramundi Lates calcarifer is a high economic value fish in Indonesia and Southeast Asia countries. However, the aquaculture system still experiences problems, including the high cost of production, specifically from feed, which is due to its relatively slow growth and low digestibility. Therefore, this study aims to determine alternative ingredients that can be used in the fish diet to improve feed utilization and growth performance using pumpkin flour Cucurbita moschata. A completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 3 replications was adopted in this study. The tested diet was (A) diet without pumpkin flour (control), (B) with 5% (C) 10% (D) 15% (E) 20%, and (F) 25%. The size of the Barramundi samples was 3-4 cm on average and the body weight was 1-3 g at the stocking density of 15 fish/container. The fish fed as much as 10% body weight daily, which is divided into 2 times, namely 08.00 AM and 4.00 PM for 60 days. The results showed that the addition of pumpkin flour had a significant effect on weight gain, daily and specific growth rate, survival, feed efficiency, conversion ratio, and carcass protein (P0.05). The diet with 5% pumpkin flour gave the best results over other treatments, with an average weight gain of 0.761 g, feed conversion of 1.578, feed efficiency of 63.455%, and a daily and specific growth rate of 0.012 g and 0.738%, respectively, The highest carcass protein content was found in the control treatment with a value of 18.210%, which was not significantly different from the 5% pumpkin flour treatment. Therefore, it is concluded that pumpkin flour can be added to the Barramundi diet as much as 5%. Keywords: Barramundi, Snapper, pumpkin, feed utilization
Abstract: The study aimed to investigate the dietary supplementation effect of sea grape, Caulerpa lentillifera, on the growth performance and survival rate of milkfish, Chanos chanos (Forsskål, 1775). Two hundred fish weighing in the range of 0.20-0.25 g/ind were randomly distributed into 20 of 25 L tanks. The 0 (control), 10, 20, 30, and 40 g/kg of Caulerpa lentillifera powder was supplemented into four formulated feeds and then fed for 49 days. The result exposed that the administration of Caulerpa lentillifera powder in the diet provided a significant effect on the absolute weight gain, absolute length gain, specific growth rate, and feed efficiency (P<0,05), but there was no significant effect on survival rate (P>0,05). The optimum specific growth rate, absolute weight, absolute length and feed efficiency were found at treatment C (20 g/kg diet) with the values of 1.597±0.137 %/days, 4.47±0.08 g, 2.98±0.77 cm and 69.86±2.72 %, respectively. Regarding this result, the supplementation of sea grape (Caulerpa lentillifera) at a 20 g/kg diet is recommended to obtain the optimum growth of milkfish (Chanos chanos). Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh suplementasi pakan anggur laut Caulerpa lentillifera terhadap performa pertumbuhan dan kelangsungan hidup ikan bandeng, Chanos chanos (Forsskål, 1775). Dua ratus ikan sampel berbobot berkisar 0.20-0.25 g/ind didistribusikan secara acak ke dalam 20 tangki dengan volume masing-masing 25 L. Tepung anggur laut dengan dosis 0 (kontrol), 10, 20, 30, dan 40 g/kg ditambahkan ke dalam lima formulasi pakan dan diberi makan sebanyak 5% dari biomassa ikan dengan frekuensi 2 kali sehari selama 49 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemberian tepung C. lentillifera dalam ransum memberikan pengaruh nyata terhadap laju pertumbuhan spesifik, bobot mutlak, panjang mutlak dan efisiensi pakan (P<0.05), tetapi tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap kelangsungan hidup (P>0.05). Laju pertumbuhan spesifik, bobot mutlak, panjang mutlak dan efisiensi pakan yang optimum terdapat pada perlakuan C (diet 20 g/kg) dengan nilai 1.597±0.137 %/hari, 4.47±0.08 g, 2.98± 0.77 cm dan 69.86±2.72%. Berkaitan dengan hasil tersebut, disarankan penambahan suplemen anggur laut (C. lentillifera) pada pakan 20 g/kg memberikan pertumbuhan yang optimum bagi ikan bandeng (Chanos chanos).
The mahseer or keureling, members of the genus Tor J.E.Gray, 1833 are the commercial freshwater fish. It has potency to be cultivated commercially. Presently, no studies have been conducted on the molecular taxonomy of these fish. Hence, the objectives of the present study were to complement this morphological identification using the DNA barcoding gene, cytochrome oxidase subunit I (COI). Samples were obtained from seven areas of Aceh Province, namely; Aceh Besar, Aceh Barat, Nagan Raya, Aceh Selatan, Aceh Tenggara, Gayo Lues and Pidie Districts. A total of 140 fish samples have been collected during the sampling, of these 37 samples have been successfully sequenced. Based on the results of the sequencing data and blasting to NCBI data, only two species of Tor occur in Aceh waters: T. tambra (Valenciennes, 1842) and T. tambroides (Bleeker, 1854); while T. soro (Valenciennes, 1842) and T. douronensis (Valenciennes, 1842) were not validated.
The aim of this study was to determine the proximate composition, quantitative of fatty acids analysis as well as the content in the seahorse sample, Hippocampus sp which originated from Sibigo waters, Simeulue, Aceh, Indonesia. In this study, proximate composition and fatty acids of seahorse were determined. Based on the proximate analyses that had been conducted, results showed that protein was the most abundantly found in the seahorse (39.32±0.22%), orderly followed by carbohydrate (28.48±0.25%), ash (25.43±0.16%), moisture (6.29±0.13%) (dry weight basis) and fat (0.47±0.30%). Fatty acids profiling and analysis were also conducted by using the a GC-MS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy). The analysis result showed that sample possessed of saturated fatty acids in big size were palmitic acid, stearic acid, myristic acid, and lauric acid. While unsaturated fatty acids were arachidonic acid, linoleic acid and oleic acid. Traces of saturated fatty acids in small seahorse were found in the sample including palmitic acid, stearic acid, miristic acid and lauric acid, while unsaturated fatty acids were linoleic acid and oleic acid. The highest saturated fatty acid in seahorse was palmitic acid (60.67%), and unsaturated fatty acids were oleic acid (45.5%), arachidonic acid (25.08%) and linoleic acid (0.93%).
Alue Naga waters is one of the coastal areas that have been used by the community as a residential area, a place for tourism, shrimp ponds, fish and fishing ground for oysters, green mussels and fish. Green mussels are one of the groups of the phylum molluscs in the class bivalves of the genus Perna and live attached to hard objects. This study aimed to analyze the food habits of the digestive tract of green mussels in the waters of Alue, Naga, Banda Aceh. This research was conducted from February to April 2022 in Alue Naga waters. Determination of the sampling location was carried out by purposive sampling with 3 stations. The method used for sampling green mussels was done by Random Sampling method and the number of samples taken was 45 samples, then preserved with 4% formalin. Food analysis was carried out at Marine Biology Laboratory, Faculty of Marine and Fisheries, Syiah Kuala University. The study, found that the food composition of green mussels consisted of 7 classes, namely: Baccillariophyceae class 45%, Chlorophyceae class 16%, Cyanophyceae class 19%, Dinophyceae class 3%, Coscinosiscophyceae class 10%, Zygnematophyceae class 3% and Euglenoidea 3%. Based on the highest IP (preponderance index) value, the main food of green mussels was obtained from the Baccillariophyceae class. The total length of green mussels was 79.56 mm and the average of intestinal length was 108.10 mm, the relative length of gut was 1.36. Based on the relative length of the intestine with a value of 1, green mussels are classified as omnivorous fish.Keywords: Green mussel, Food Habits, Gut
Many members of the mullets (family Mugilidae) are very similar morphologically, hence the possibility of taxonomic misidentification. This study involved the use of skeleton structure to distinguish four species of mullets, including Cremugil crenilabis, Liza macrolepis, Moolgarda engelii, and Mugil cephalus, harvested from Aceh waters, Indonesia. The mullets samples were collected from 10 locations, and a total of 10 samples were taken randomly as representatives of each species. The skeletal sample was prepared using the dry method. The results showed the presence of 8 pairs of ribs in C. crenilabis and L. macrolepis, while M. engelii had 9, with 10 in M. cephalus. In addition, the origin of the haemal canal of C. crenilabis is at the 12th vertebrae, extends to the 23rd, while for the other three species it starts at the 10th and extends to the 23rd. In addition, C. crenilabis possesses 12 haemal canals, but the rest have 14. The haemal canal is present in the last precaudal vertebrae of all specimens, except C. crenilabis, whose epural bone in the caudal skeleton is small and located far from the preural, while a larger and distinctly attached form is observed in the rest. Furthermore, L. macrolepis possess a pair of diapophyses, which laterally extend in the 2nd vertebrae. This bone is absent in the three other species. The presence of diapophyses, the number of ribs and haemal canals and the location of the epural bone in the caudal skeleton, and the condition of frontal attachment to the sphenotic are the important characters in distinguishing the four investigated species of mullets.
This study aims to investigate the type, prevalence, and intensity of endoparasites infecting the organs of blood cockles (Anadara granosa) in the waters of Aceh Besar, Indonesia. A purposive sampling method was conducted from March to August 2020 consisting of two sampling sites, namely the waters of Ujung Pancu and Krueng Raya. Endoparasite identification and analysis was carried out at the Parasite Laboratory of the Fish Quarantine Center, Quality Control and Safety of Fishery Products in Blang Bintang, Aceh Besar. The results showed that there were two types of endoparasites living in the blood cockles: namely, Perkinsus sp., which belong to the group Protozoa, and Spiroxys sp. of the Nematode class. The prevalence levels of Perkinsus sp. was 73.33% and were found in the waters of Ujung Pancu; while the lowest prevalence level was 20% in blood cockles that were infected with Spiroxys sp., which were found both in Ujung Pancu and Krueng Raya. The highest intensity level was infections of Perkinsus sp. with a value of 89 ind/species in the Krueng Raya site. The lowest intensity value was infections of Spiroxys with a value of 2 ind/species in Krueng Raya and 2.3 ind/species in Ujung Pancu
Background: Proper feed formulation is required for successful fish farming activities. Therefore, it is necessary for fish feed to provide optimal growth so that the cultivation business generates profits. Currently, there is very limited information about the appropriate feed for Caranx ignobilis, causing problems with its development. This study aims to provide feed with different protein levels to C. ignobilis. Methods: We will examine the protein levels’ effects on the daily growth rate (DGR), specific growth rate (SGR), absolute growth rate (AGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), feed efficiency (FE), and survival rate (SR). This research was conducted for 35 days, from June to October 2017, at the Center Brackiswater Aquaculture Development (BPBAP) Ujung Batee, Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Aceh Besar, Indonesia. This study used a completely randomized design method, with five treatment levels (30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, and 70% protein feed) and four replications. Results: The results showed that feeding with different proteins on C. ignobilis had a significant effect on the mean values of DGR, SGR, AGR, FCR, FE, and SR. The 50% protein feed gave the best results for C. ignobilis, with a mean DGR value of 0.267 ± 0.005 g / day, a mean SGR of 1.722 ± 0.030% / day, a mean AGR of 0.081 ± 0.003 cm/day, a mean FCR of 1.290, a mean FE 77.755% and a mean SR was 86.667%. Conclusions: Furthermore, feed treatment with increased protein content between 30%–50% has a positive correlation with the growth of C. ignobilis. However, the ability to grow fish will decrease if the feed protein content is >50%.
Background:The giant trevally,Caranx ignobilis, is a commercially important marine fish in Indonesia. This species was initially cultured in Aceh Province. Previous reports showed that charcoal has a positive effect on survival and feed utilization of the giant trevally. However, the effects of adding charcoal to the diet on gut and intestine biometrics has, to our knowledge, never been described.Methods:Four activated charcoal sources were tested in this study using a completely randomized experimental design; coconut shell charcoal, mangrove wood charcoal, rice husk charcoal, and kernel palm shell charcoal. All treatments were performed with four replications. Juvenile giant trevally (average body weight, 16.52 ± 3.12 g; and average total length, 10.26 ± 0.64 cm) were stocked into the experimental tank at a density of 15 fish per tank. The fish were fed an experimental diet twice daily at 7 AM and 5 PMad satiationfor 42 days.Results:Analysis of variance showed that adding charcoal to the diet had significant effects on the length and width of the foveola gastrica and villous intestine (P < 0.05). The greatest length and width of the foveola gastrica was recorded in fish fed an experimental diet of rice husk charcoal with average values of 311.811 ± 9.869 µm and 241.786 ± 10.394 µm, respectively. The greatest length of intestinal villous was found in fish fed the mangrove wood charcoal diet, with a value of 135.012 ± 5.147 µm, but this length was not significantly different to that in fish fed rice charcoal and kernel palm shell charcoal. However, the greatest width of intestinal villous was recorded in fish fed the control diet (without charcoal; P < 0.05).Conclusion:The optimal sizes of the foveola gastrica and villous intestine were found in fish fed an experimental diet with rice husk charcoal.
This article describes the data of raw material compositions for formulating the diet for Indonesian short-fin eel, Anguilla bicolor Anguilla bicolor McClelland, 1844 elver. The data on growth performance, survival and feed utilization of eel elver from the formulated diet test results are also presented here. Four formulated diets and one commercial feed were tested for the eel elver. The formulated diet was formulated from animal and plant based protein sources such as; fish meal, cornmeal, soybean meal, fine bran, ebi-shrimp meal, golden snail meal, bloodmeal, and tapioca flour. Vitamins and minerals were added into the diet. In addition, probiotics and papain enzyme and its combination were also included into the experimental diets to boost the growth performance, survival and feed utilization of the fish. The tested treatments were; (A) commercial diet without probiotic and papain enzyme, (B) experimental diet without probiotic and papain enzyme, (C) experimental diet with probiotic 10 ml kg-1 feed, (D) experimental diet with papain enzyme 10 g kg-1 feed, (E) experimental diet with probiotic 10 ml kg-1 + papain 10 g kg-1 feed, (F) experimental diet with probiotic 5 ml kg-1 + papain 5 g kg-1 feed. Each experimental fish group was fed on an experimental diet twice a day at 08.00 AM and 06.00 PM at feeding level of 10% body weight for 60 days. The results showed that the weight gain ranged between 4.60 g to 5.92 g, daily growth rate between 0.063 g day-1 and 0.098 g per day-1, the specific growth rate varies from 0.72% day-1 to 1.35% day-1, survival rate 50.00% to 73.33%, feed conversion ratio from 2.35 to 4.17, and feed efficiency between 41.82% to 58.98%. The best treatment was found in fish fed on the experimental diet with papain enzyme 10 g kg-1 of feed.
Background: Research on supplementing feed with rice husk activated charcoal was carried out to determine the effect of variations in the concentration of rice husk activated charcoal on the growth and histological features of the giant trevally Caranx ignobilis intestine. Methods: This study used an experimental method with a completely randomized design consisting of six treatments and four replications, including adding activated charcoal to feed at concentrations of 0%, 1%, 1.5%, 2%, 2.5%, and 3% for 42 days. The measured parameters included daily growth rate (DGR), specific growth rate (SGR), absolute growth rate (AGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), feed efficiency (FE), survival rate (SR), length of foveola gastrica, width of foveola gastrica, length of intestinal villi, and width of intestinal villi. Data were analyzed statistically using one-way analysis of variance and Duncan’s test. Results: The results showed that supplementing fish feed with rice husk activated charcoal at different concentrations significantly affected the values of DGR, AGR, FCR, FE, SR, length of the foveola gastrica, length of the villous intestine, and width of the villous intestine, but did not significantly affect SGR or foveola gastrica width. Conclusion: The 2% rice husk activated charcoal treatment showed the best results for all parameters.
