Recent experiments indicate the possibility of a doubly-magic character for the nucleus146Gd (Z=64, N=82). In this work the results of a large-scale shell-model study on the nucleus146Gd and its neighbouring nuclei145Eu,145Gd,147Gd and147Tb are presented. The configurations taken into account include up to 2p - 2h excitations for protons and/or neutrons. The calculated spectra and static moments are compared with the experimental data. Finally, the present results on shell closure in146Gd are discussed in connection with those derived from a similar approach applied to the well-known doubly-magic nucleus208Pb.

The authors studied the histamine threshold (endpoint concentration for a 100% pressure gradient increase at a flow of 0.25 liter/second) in a group of 29 patients suffering from non specific allergic rhinopathy and a control group of 15 normal subjects. The result of the nasal challenge was measured with two different methods of rhinomanometry: the passive anterior rhinomanometry (P.A.R.) and the active anterior rhinomanometry (A.A.R.). There existed a slightly significant difference (P less than or equal to 0.05) in histamine threshold between the patient and the control group. The 21 in duplo performed histamine challenges showed the very good reproducebility of the method. Finally, the A.A.R. method turned out to be slightly more sensitive than the P.A.R.-method.
The authors describe an easy and fast way of nose provocation (aerosol provocation combined with passive anterior rhinomanometry). A comparative study between skin tests, lungprovocations and noseprovocations proves the usefulness of the method.
The authors studied the physical data of the passive anterior rhinomanometry (P.A.R). The values obtained from thirty normal test subjects made it possible to make a statistical analysis (ANOVA) of the different variables involved with the P.A.R. By measuring "delta p" with successively changing flows, it was possible to determine that the airstream was mainly laminar.
The authors make a comparative study in 55 CNLSD children and 10 healthy children. In all those children, provocation tests were performed as wel at the level of the skin, as at the level of the lung and nose. The provocation tests were performed with the following allergens: house dust, mites, human dander and pollen, and with histamine. Only in the control group (10 healthy children) no lung provocations with histamine were done. From the investigation follows that skin tests are not always reliable. Furthermore, in many cases a nose provocation test (combination of aerosole. Furthermore, in many cases a nose provocation test (combination of aerosol provocation with a allergen and PAR rhinomanometry) can replace a lung provocation test.
