The bivalves have capability to accumulate the toxicant substances as heavy metals in their body tissues, therefore, they might be used as a good bio-indicators of water contamination. The present work aimed to measure the concentration of Cd, Cu, Pb, Mn, and Zn in the soft tissues of Ruditapes decussatus which collected between December 2018 and February 2019 from two sites of Mediterranean Sea. One from Alexandrian Port (Site I) and the other from Port Said (Site II), Egypt, as well as to estimate the potential physiological change of the clam affected by these pollutants. Samples from Site I gives comparatively higher water salinity and metals concentration in soft tissues. The statistical analysis shows significant increase in the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) while superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase were found decreased in the R. decussatus soft tissue collected from Site I. The correlation coefficient of physicochemical parameters, heavy metals and oxidative stress biomarkers in Site I shows that glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase have positive correlation with acetylcholinesterase (r=0.912) and (r=0.929), respectively. SOD, on the other hand, was having negative correlation with MDA (r= -0.886). The reported values in this study are considered as basic data in monitor of the anthropogenic activities in future along the coast, as well as it is starter point in assessment of pollution that maybe effect on the aquatic organisms in the Mediterranean marine environment.
The present study investigated the unsafe impacts of sodium nitrite, sodium benzoate and their mixture which is utilized in fabricating of the food on some biochemical parameters in male albino rats. Rats (40) were divided into four groups as follows: group 1 used as the control, group II and III were treated orally with sodium nitrite nano2 (80 mg/kg BW) and sodium benzoate (SB) (200 mg/kg BW), respectively. Group IV was treated orally with a mixture of sodium nitrite and sodium benzoate. Rats took their respective doses every day for 8 weeks. The obtained results showed that sodium nitrite, sodium benzoate and their mixture (nano2 and SB) initiated a diminished within in the activity of antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT, and GSH) within the kidney, while, MDA recorded a highly significant activity level within experimental groups. Urea and creatinine mean levels were were expanded within plasma of the experimental rats. In the histology of the kidney, sections appeared edema with few mononuclear leukocyte cellular infiltrations, shrinkage of glomeruli. The severity of these changes increased in the experimental group which treated by the mixture of sodium nitrite and sodium benzoate. Overexpression in p53 occurred in experimental groups that were treated by nano2, SB and their mixture. The present study concluded that the mixture of food additives can induce toxicity in the kidney of rats. It is obvious that food additives induced nephrotoxicity within the kidney. It decreased the antioxidant enzymes (GSH, CAT, and SOD) and increased MDA. Increase tumor suppressor gene p53 in kidney tissue. Food added substances caused changes in biochemical parameters as in creatinine and urea. The utilization of food additives must be decreased. The presence of more than one type of food additives on our food and the usage of the mixture of sodium nitrite and sodium benzoate initiated changes in biochemical parameters and immune-histopathological changes.
Background Nephrotoxicity is a complication due to the effect of some toxic chemicals on kidney. Current study planned to screen the effect of Trigonella foenumaqueous seeds extracts on EDTA induced nephrotoxicity. Trigonella foenum known for its various medicinal properties is also a natural antioxidant and a free radical scavenger with no documented evidence as a nephron-protective agent. Objective To investigate the protective effects of aqueous seed extracts of Trigonella foenum. Material and Methods The present study was used 40 male albino rats (Rattus albinus) with weight of (150 ± 10) g with divided into four groups: control gp; EDTA gp (95 mg/kg); Trigonella foenum gp (500 mg/kg) and EDTA + Trigonella f oenum gp by gastric tube daily for 4 weeks. Blood urea, creatinine, GFR, creatinine clearance, MDA and GPx analyses and microscopic examination of kidney were performed. Results In the present study, Blood samples were taken from all groups and concentration of serum urea, creatinine, GFR, Creatinine clearance, MDA and GPx were determined. Histopathological observations were observed in kidney tissue. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA). EDTA induced an increase in urea and creatinine as well as there was a decrease in the concentration of GFR and creatinine clearance. The level of MDA was increase while the concentration of GPx was decrease in the serum of EDTA group. The aqueous extracts of Trigonella seeds significantly prevented renal damage by normalizing increased levels of renal markers. The correction of oxidative stress biomarkers was consistent with amelioration of the histopathological changes induced by EDTA. Hence, it is suggested that ameliorative effect of aqueous extract of Trigonella foenumagainst EDTA induced nephrotoxicity. Conclusion The present data suggest that aqueous extract of Trigonella foenum exhibits reno-protective effect in EDTA induced renal damage.
Pesticides are the major source of concern as water pollutants. Chlorpyrifos (CPY) (O,O-diethyl-O-(3,5,6-trichloro-2-pyridinyl) phosphorothioate; CAS No. 2921-88-2). CPY is a widely used organophosphate insecticide. The aim of current study was to determine the effects of CPY on the second instar larvae of Culex mosquito as a bio-indicator of water pollution. Levels of CPY in stream water was evaluated. Toxicity of CPY was estimated on mosquito. Along with the evaluation of effects of water polluted with CPY on mosquito to predict the water pollution levels. Results showed that LC95 of CPY was 6331.30 mg/kg after 24hr and increased to 230506.4 ppm after 48hr of exposure. It was noted that the activity of CPY is concentration and time dependent. The 0.09 ppm concentration of CPY (the amount that was found in the stream water) had no effect on the second instar Culex larvae similar to the control (tap water). There is no effect after 72,96h of exposure of the population to the detected insecticide. It could be concluded that mosquito is not a bioindicator of CPY pollution at the detected level in stream water.
Common food additives endorsed by Food and drug Organization "FDA" are utilized to preserve taste. The display think about examined the perilous impacts of sodium nitrite, sodium benzoate and their blend which utilized in fabricating of the food additives on a few biochemical parameters and histo-pathological examination in male rats. Male rats were divided into four groups; group I utilized as control, group II and III were treated orally with sodium nitrite NaNO2 (80 mg/kg BW) and sodium benzoate (SB) (200 mg/kg BW), separately. Group IV was treated orally with the blend of sodium nitrite and sodium benzoate. Rats were managed their dosages each day for 8 weeks. It appeared that sodium nitrite, sodium benzoate and their blend (NaNO2 and SB) initiated a critical increment within the serum levels of aspartate aminotransferase "AST", alanine aminotransferase "ALT". Antioxidant proteins (GSH, CAT) within the liver tissue recorded a decrease while, MDA recorded an increase action level within the tested groups. Over expression in p53 happened in exploratory groups which were treated by NaNO2, SB and their blend. The present study concluded that the blend of food additives can actuate harmfulness within the liver of rats. In conclusion, it is noted that food additives induced hepatotoxicity within the liver. It diminished the antioxidant chemicals (GSH, CAT) and elevated the activity level of the MDA and increment tumor silencer quality p53 in liver tissue. Food additive substances caused changes in biochemical parameters (ALT, AST). The utilization of food additives must be diminished. The usage of the mixture of sodium nitrite and sodium benzoate induced changes in biochemical parameters and immune-histopathology.

Obesity can be defined as a condition of abnormal or excess fat accumulation in adipose tissue, to the extent that health may be impaired. Fennel is one of the oldest spice plants which widely grows in arid and semi-arid and due to its economic importance and pharmaceutical industry usage. This plant has anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect and is effective in gastrointestinal disorder treatment. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the phytochemical characteristics and therapeutic properties of this medicinal plant. The current study demonstrates that the alteration induced by high fat diet causing changes in blood parameters. These changes are exhibited through a decrease in RBCs, Ht, Hb and platelet and these changes could be due to oxidative stress, which lead to lipid peroxidation in RBCs membranes, auto oxidation of hemoglobin. As regards the total WBCs, lymphocytes and monocytes showed marked decrease. While a distinct increase in the percentage of neutrophils and eosinophil. The present, demonstrates that rats treated with (fennel), (ator) and (fennel with ator) exposure provided significant protection to the altered hematological variables. The effect of the treatment with fennel and ator more effect than fennel only and ator only. The finding of this study indicates that the concentration of Malondialdehyde (MDA) and Myeloperoxidase (MPO) in liver homogenates of the fennel and ator group significant decrease than group (3) and group (4) and the obese group. There is a growing awareness that obesity is a prime risk factor for the development of dyslipidemia profile and that oxidative stress may play a role in various adverse effects of obesity.

Organic contamination can be viewed as the secondary and tertiary dispersions of organic compounds from various sources into the global circulation across different spheres of the environment; this study was conducted to assess the role of various forms of organic pollutants on bivalve Pinctada radiata and Ruditapesdecussatus . Due to their microphage capacity, bivalves have great biologic importance: they clean the environment of harmful microorganisms and decaying organic compounds which result in water purification, water filtering by means of adaptive structures of digestive system. Waste materials derived from animal metabolism coalesce in larger aggregates which sink and deposit onto the bottom, thus enabling the bivalvular shells to contribute to developing and securing adequate conditions for the productive cycle of marine environment.Theaim of this work was to investigate the present status of the contamination by total organic hydrocarbons in two species of bivalves collected from Egyptian Mediterranean Sea Coast in winter season, 2015 (November). The spatial distribution for total hydrocarbon suggested that most of the contaminants may originate from urban runoff, municipal wastes and petroleum industries. Only three amino acids (L-Lysine, and L-Leucine) were reported in Ruditapesdecussatus collected from Ismailia and Alexandria and Pinctada radiata collected from Ismailia and three amino acids were reported in oyster Pinctada radiata collected from Alexandria( L-Arginine,L-Lysine, and L-Leucine) . In the present results it is concluded that the total amount of amino acid in the two species of bivalve –oyster and clam- followed the arrangement of oyster which is collected from Alexandria> oyster which is collected from Ismailia> clam that was collected from Alexandria>clam that was collected from Ismailia; as 4.45805×15.4649 =68.9432> 3.3436×15.1117=50.5274 > 3.0089×15.6026=46.9466 > 2.9164×15.1932=44.30944 µMol/gm; respectively
Coastal habitats experience large fluctuations of environmental factors such as salinity; they also serve as the natural sinks for trace metals. Bivalves are exposed to the elevated concentrations of metals in water that can strongly have an effect on their histology. The present work includes a list of three edible bivalve species collected from marine water;Mediterranean sea in Alexandria, Egypt. All the identified species are included in class bivalvia. The present study aims to evaluate the environmental salinity and cadmium during two years 2011-2013 of two locations;easern harbor and el asafra ,Aleaxandria,Egypt of the Mediterranean coast to investigate their effect on the histology of three main edible bivalve species. From each station, fifteen bivalve (clams, date mussels and oysters) were collected monthly.
Specimens were collected from three estuarine localities of the Arabian Gulf (Saudi Arabia) namely northern Khobar, southern Khobar and Ad-Dammam estuarine beaches during January and August 2013 and June 2014. Three collections in the form of twenty specimens were samples in each month from each locality. Immediately these samples were dissected and ctendia were isolated and frozen at -20°C. Using energy dispersive X Ray fluorescence (EDXRF), accumulations of Sodium, manganese, aluminium, phosphate, sulphur, chlorine, cadmium, calcium, iron, nickel, copper, zinc and lead were measured. This trail has been investigated in triplets. Concentration of the heavy metals studied was compared with United Kingdom Quality Standards, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA), Egyptian Organization for Standardization and Saudi Arabian Standards Organization. One way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with PË‚0.05 and Turkey`s multiple analysis test were applied to all the data obtained from the software. This study concluded that clams live in southern Khobar estuarine beach contain percentage of heavy metals ≥ Saudi Arabian Standards whereas the clams live the northern Khobar and Ad-dammam easuarine beaches contain percentage of heavy metals ≈ Saudi Arabian Standards. Key words: Biological markers, energy dispersive X-Ray fluorescence (EDXRF), Anadara ehrengergi.
