Agile Project Management is an alternative to develop products and processes that meet the customers and stakeholders’ expectations assertively and frequently. Although this approach prioritizes flexible management methods, it still demands the use of performance measurement to correct deviations, predict deliveries, and learn about the product and work process. This paper poses the results of a systematic literature review on the use of performance measurement systems in the iteration phase of agile projects. The main findings highlight that designing metrics, developing information systems infrastructure, and communicating performance to the project team are key priorities. While customer satisfaction is measured, other stakeholders are neglected.
Performance measurement systems have a critical role in organizations management, transforming data into relevant information for decision makers. In recent decades, the amount of data and information generated and shared has increased immensely, providing unprecedented opportunities and challenges for such systems. Faced with this scenario, this article aims to analyze the use of big data analytics in performance measurement systems to clarify the nexus between them. Furthermore, the aim is also to identify the trends and opportunities for future research. To achieve that, we carried a scientific map out using bibliometric analysis. The major results of the research show that the use of big data analytics in PMS has increased in recent years without considering the performance measurement systems characteristics. Incorporating artificial intelligence technologies such as machine learning and deep learning could improve the domain, creating opportunities for empirical works such as the use of unstructured data and applications in Industry 4.0.
In order to succeed in today's dynamic and competitive marketplace, it is of paramount importance for firms to manage their brand and product portfolios such that they not only create or acquire new brands/products, manage the existing ones, but also delete the ones that are underperforming. Brand/product deletion is an important but daunting strategic choice for firms. It deserves focused academic research attention, especially theory development, due to the fragmented nature of the literature in this field. This article conducts a comprehensive bibliometric review on relevant publications in the brand/product deletion literature with an aim to provide insights into the field's current intellectual structure and thematic classification of the published studies, and offers avenues for future development of this critical area of strategic brand and product management.
Even with all the progress that humankind has achieved in the twenty-first century, the challenge of better knowledge available from science to address our most relevant problems remains. In this paper, we report on a few outstanding references built by the future vision of the great inspiring mind of Professor Sérgio Mascarenhas Oliveira. This special edition of the Brazilian Journal of Physics, “Sergio Mascarenhas−a Polymath in Physics,” reports most of his contributions. We focus on his invariant attitude of choosing to understand simple facts based on the best knowledge, going beyond the traditional approaches. For him, the subject did not matter. He systematically sought the knowledge frontier available, contacting researchers of different domains, sharing and exchanging knowledge to satisfy his curious and empathic mind. To illustrate his impact on society, one ought to consider his scientific heritage as over two thousand intellectual descendants that help us to understand his legacy. We conclude this report by describing the newborn Institute of Advanced and Strategic Studies, based on UFSCar, that aims to cultivate a world connecting and sharing the best knowledge available, which are values that had guided our Polymath until his last days.
A capacidade de medir o desempenho é um importante fator para empresas concorrentes no mercado global. As tecnologias digitais da Indústria 4.0 podem facilitar a obter, armazenar, processar e analisar uma quantidade volumosa e variada de dados em tempo real para tomadas de decisão mais eficazes, melhorando assim os sistemas de medição de desempenho. Esse artigo tem o objetivo de realizar uma revisão sistemática da literatura para identificar e analisar os principais estudos envolvidos na contribuição das tecnologias da Indústria 4.0 na melhoria dos sistemas de medição de desempenho. Para tanto, foram realizadas análises quantitativas e qualitativas em 56 documentos extraídos dos indexadores científicos Web of Science e Scopus. Os principais resultados apontam que o crescimento da produção científica que envolve a temática da pesquisa, principalmente nos últimos anos, são evidências que ela é atual, relevante e vem atraindo a atenção dos pesquisadores, porém a pequena quantidade de autores com produção destacada no campo e a concentração das pesquisas em poucos
RESUMO Este artigo apresenta uma análise da produção científica da medição de desempenho e do desperdício de alimentos, bem como as tendências e os desafios no campo. O desperdício de alimentos contribui para aumentar a insegurança alimentar e consome recursos financeiros e naturais escassos. Entretanto, existem inúmeras dificuldades para medir o desperdício em nível agregado, e as várias formas utilizadas nas empresas não têm abordagem sistêmica. Uma revisão sistemática da literatura foi realizada com o uso de bibliometria para direcionar análise de conteúdo. Os resultados apontam para uma falta de artigos com ênfase nos sistemas de medição de desempenho voltados para toda a cadeia de suprimentos com enfoque em sustentabilidade, melhoria e aprendizagem. A aplicação de tecnologias digitais nos sistemas de medição de desempenho é uma tendência observada. Isso é uma janela de oportunidades para desenvolvimento de pesquisas com o objetivo de quantificar melhor o desperdício de alimentos, que pode contribuir para a redução da insegurança alimentar.
This paper presents an analysis of the scientific production that deals with performance measurement and food waste, and examines the trends and challenges in the field. Food waste increases food insecurity and misuses scarce natural and financial resources. It is, however, very difficult to measure waste at the aggregate level, and the various ways companies use do not adopt a systemic approach. A systematic literature review was conducted using bibliometrics to guide content analysis. The results indicate that few articles focus on performance measurement systems for the whole supply chain, with a particular emphasis on sustainability. The use of digital technologies in performance measurement systems is a trend that was observed. This is an opportunity for research aimed at quantifying food waste better and helping reduce food insecurity.
Industry 4.0 technologies have the potential to enhance performance measurement systems dramatically. Although there are many reviews on Industry 4.0, there are none with attention on the interplay between Industry 4.0 and performance measurement systems. Thus, this article presents a scientific map on Industry 4.0 impacts on performance measurement systems. We applied bibliometric analysis and content analysis in a sample of 325 documents gathered from the Web of Science scientific index. R Bibliometrix package and VOSviewer software supported the data processing and analysis. The major results point out that scientific production has been rising since 2015, but it still is in the initial maturity stage without a few top productive authors and with high productivity of technological areas compared to business administration and operations management areas. This latest evidence calls attention to more research on how to use Industry 4.0 technologies in management systems. The results disclose positive impacts of Industry 4.0 technologies on performance measurement systems. The significant trend is the development of intelligent systems that provide adequate information for decision-making in real time with an extension to the entire supply chain. However, this green field calls for an interdisciplinary research effort from technological and management domains to apprehend the proper value to all stakeholders.
Inefficient supply chain management could jeopardize or limit an effective vaccination campaign as well as the immunization programs. As we face a COVID-19 pandemic outbreak and population immunization is the best solution, it is critical to map the vaccine supply chain management to identify risks and opportunities for the Industrial Engineering and Operations Management researchers and practitioners. This paper aims to map the field, applying descriptive bibliometric analysis. The application of a string search in the science index Web of Science resulted in a sample of 808 documents. We used the Bibliometrix R for data processing. The scientific production of the domain has been rising since 2006. The few high productivity authors focus on Health Sciences and Immunology studies even though the results unfold a growing interest by academics from Engineering, Business and Economics, Operations Research, and Management Sciences domains. Vaccine and other health sciences journals are the most productive and present a higher impact. The authors’ keywords dynamics analysis shows a resettling of technical terms as “stabilization” and “formulation” to supply chain management keywords as “logistics”. Evidence points out the need for more Industrial Engineering and Operations Management research to increase vaccine distribution effectiveness.
O objetivo deste artigo é mapear a produção intelectual relacionada ao método DEMATEL, seu impacto e suas tendências, a partir do uso de bibliometria descritiva. Nesse sentido, o estado atual da arte sobre o método é apresentado bem como as tendências em seu uso. Os dados foram coletados da base Web of Science e os registros foram processados com uso pacote R Bibliometrix no ambiente de desenvolvimento integrado RStudio. A elaboração de gráficos foi auxiliada por Excel e pelo pacote R ggplot2. A busca na base resultou em um total de 1.304 documentos. Os principais resultados apontam para uma curva crescente de produção científica. Isso significa que o método vem ganhando importância na comunidade acadêmica nos últimos 10 anos. Artigos seminais são identificados no período de 2006 a 2010, e provém do início do desenvolvimento de métodos híbridos. A hibridização do método com lógica Fuzzy e ANP é uma prática crescente, e outras variações vem surgindo, como Fuzzy TOPSIS e ISM mais recentemente. É também possível identificar que as principais áreas em que se aplica o método são a ciências da computação, ciências sociais, engenharia de produção e gestão de operações, e mais recentemente, ciências ambientais. Fica evidente forte relação entre os tópicos das pesquisas e a engenharia de produção, existindo aplicações do método nos últimos 3 anos em estudos de gestão de cadeia de suprimentos, medição de desempenho, inovação e avaliação de riscos.

Goal: To analyze supply chain flexibility (SCF) within real-life settings from a maturity perspective and provide a discussion on the importance of a maturity model for SCF. Design/Methodology/Approach: A multiple case study was conducted in multinational manufacturing companies from different business sectors, offering a within-case and cross-case analysis. Results: The empirical evidence revealed that the studied companies do not consider flexibility measures. This absence renders difficulties when striving for external flexibility, for instance, affecting planning and control activities. Furthermore, the conducted analysis showed that sharing information among supply chain members has a significant impact on the identification of changes in the processes, enabling a correct and quick reaction to these changes. Limitations of the investigation: The results are restricted to the studied companies; therefore, the SCF maturity model deserves more application through the development of more empirical investigations. Practical implications: This is a guide for practitioners to identify the current maturity level of their SCF, and subsequently improve the processes, aiming to achieve the desired result. Originality/Value: This paper addresses the lack of theoretical and empirical studies in the literature regarding the analysis of SCF maturity and its different levels, thus enabling practitioners and researchers to improve the understanding of maturity in the SCF context.
Assessment and measurement of performance in academic libraries are well established. However, in developing countries such as Brazil, this has not been fully explored. This study aims to contribute to the knowledge by investigating practices of measuring library performance in Brazilian public academic libraries and analyzing their relationship with managerial processes. It employs a survey method with a descriptive-explanatory objective and follows a quantitative research approach. Data was gathered from 149 libraries. Results indicate that performance measurement system at academic libraries in Brazil lack systematic methods. However, libraries with implemented performance management systems have better management practices, reflecting in their library management maturity.
