Este estudo investiga a Gestão do Conhecimento em um grupo de pesquisa universitário, motivado pela necessidade de mitigar a perda de conhecimentos organizacionais decorrente da alta rotatividade de membros e de aprimorar a organização interna. Objetiva analisar as práticas de Gestão do Conhecimento empregadas e a sua contribuição para a preservação do histórico científico do coletivo, com vistas ao desenvolvimento e à aplicação de um Modelo Conceitual de Maturidade em Gestão do Conhecimento adaptado a esses ambientes. De natureza exploratório-descritiva, o trabalho estrutura-se em um arcabouço teórico que integra o ciclo dos processos do conhecimento, níveis de maturidade e Fatores Críticos de Sucesso. A coleta de dados foi realizada por diversos meios (observação, análise documental e entrevistas), de modo a garantir a triangulação de dados. Os resultados demonstram que, embora as interações informais e a cultura de confiança impulsionem fortemente o conhecimento tácito, a ausência de processos formais de Externalização e de Armazenamento constitui uma lacuna crítica. O grupo foi diagnosticado no Estágio 1 de maturidade (Iniciação Funcional), segundo o modelo de Gestão do Conhecimento proposto. Recomenda-se a aplicação contínua do modelo para o aprimoramento dos processos de gestão do grupo e o desenvolvimento de um instrumento survey para mapear a Gestão do Conhecimento em grupos de pesquisa universitários em larga escala.
Introduction: knowledge Management (KM) organizes relevant knowledge for the organization and relates to Process Management (PM), particularly through Process Mapping (PMa), which visually represents the activities inherent in processes. The objective of this study was to characterize the facilitators and barriers of knowledge transfer and conversion within the context of PM. Method: the study began with an exploratory review of the main concepts related to KM, PM, and PMa, and concluded with a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Results: in the analysis of the 41 articles in this SLR, the identified facilitators and barriers were grouped into dimensions: 'Organization,''Exchange,''Sender,''Receiver,''Sender-Receiver,' and 'Knowledge.' The 'Organization' and 'Exchange' dimensions were more frequent. The least frequent were 'Sender,' 'Receiver,' and 'Sender-Receiver.' It was evident that organizational actions and the space where knowledge exchanges occur were the most reported factors, while aspects related to the characteristics of the actors, source, and destination of shared knowledge were less frequent. Conclusions: a systemic perspective was developed through a holistic analysis of the ranked facilitators and barriers, grouped by dimensions. The results may support organizational decisions to enhance the transfer and conversion of organizational knowledge in the challenge of retaining it. Future research with empirical data can investigate facilitators and barriers individually and deepen the analysis of the interactions between them.
This article analyzes the existing literature on the needs of passengers in transport and tourism situations that are hidden or invisible to service providers. Although accessibility in air transport is an emerging field of research, this study adds to the literature an in-depth understanding of the barriers these air passengers face, investigating accessibility recommendations for people with hidden disabilities in transport situations, including air transport. Various contexts of transport and tourism involving buses, subways, or tr et al. challenge this population through spatial disorientation, communication difficulties, sensory stimulating environments, anxiety, and other behaviors. These needs gain notoriety in airports due to the complexity of the environment and air travel, especially for individuals with intellectual, neurological, or developmental disabilities. As a result, the most emphasized recommendations in the literature were categorized according to the passenger's assistance needs in air travel, providing opportunities for improving assistance processes, structural conditions, and services at airports.
To stay alive in the market, some incumbent companies are constituting an Innovation Function (IF) as a way of maintaining the innovation in a perennial and systematic way. However, there are companies that come from segments that presents a profile of innovating incrementally, such as some autoparts companies, which face the need of developing an IF to change this scenario. The challenge is to spread their “IF arms” beyond the headquarters boundaries by establishing IF divisions in the subsidiaries. In this way, this work aims to understand how to strengthen radical innovation in subsidiaries (that have a culture of incremental innovating). This research presents data of a single case study, following a qualitative-inductive methodological approach based on Grounded Theory. The case is a Brazilian multinational autoparts company, which has an Innovation Function Headquarter in Germany and subsidiaries worldwide. As results, the IF headquarter needs to provide six dimensions to subsidiaries: innovation inputs, orchestrate responsibilities and resources, support information and knowledge management, promote engagement in innovation, be attentive to the needs and performance, and support the change of mindset. This study implies strengthening the literature on relations between headquarters and subsidiaries when seeking radical innovation.
A pesquisa tem como objetivo descrever a influência da cultura, da gestão de pessoas e da alta gerência sobre o desenvolvimento da gestão do conhecimento. Este estudo realizou um levantamento de dados com 125 gestores de uma empresa de base tecnológica nacional e internacionalmente reconhecida pelos altos índices de inovação. Os resultados revelam que: a cultura se torna mais colaborativa e voltada à aprendizagem ao longo dos estágios; a recompensa, aspecto altamente citado pela literatura, como essencial ao desenvolvimento da gestão do conhecimento, apresentou uma queda no estágio dois; e a coordenação e o incentivo da alta gerencia influenciam decisivamente o desenvolvimento do estágio dois. A pesquisa contribui ao identificar e descrever, empiricamente pela primeira vez, a influência da cultura, da gestão de pessoas e da alta gerência sobre o desenvolvimento das práticas de gestão do conhecimento.
University research centers must manage projects for technological research that broadens the knowledge frontier as well as deal with industrial partners to foster entrepreneurship and always plan deliveries demanded by funding agencies. The literature addresses the necessity of project management skills and methods to minimize challenges. However, few studies bring the perceptions of the internal stakeholders. This paper analyzed and raised the main challenges of project management in one research center using the Current Reality Tree method through a case study. As a result, it was possible to verify three leading root causes of difficulties on project management, planning and controlling, and communication with funding agencies.
Paper aims Analyze the relationship among interdepartmental integration (IDI), socialization, and product portfolio performance (PPP), mainly the effect of socialization’s mediation on the relationship between the other two constructs. Originality No study has related both IDI and socialization for improving PPP, with the aim of overcoming the information absence and flow in this portfolio management. This work offers an alternative when compared to past studies, which is the importance of socialization for product portfolio’s success. Research method Survey with 131 most innovative companies in Brazil. Results were provided by PLS-SEM. Main findings IDI has direct effect on socialization and no direct effect on PPP, besides the mediation of socialization is confirmed. Furthermore, IDI presents indirect effect on PPP. Implications for theory and practice Socialization’s mediation opens space for other theories that can be beneficial to the product portfolio. Furthermore, Managers can prioritize IDI’s actions to potentialize PPP through socialization.
Purpose This paper aims to develop a conceptual framework of the implementation of the contact points (CPs) between Lean Six Sigma practices and Industry 4.0 technologies. Design/methodology/approach A systematic literature review was carried out based on two samples. A first sample containing 78 articles was analyzed through bibliometric indicators. After that, a second sample of 33 articles was analyzed in-depth according to research questions. Findings The conceptual framework involves 13 CPs between Lean Six Sigma (LSS) practices and I4.0 technologies (what), going through the technical requirements needed (how), categorized as information technology (IT), automation and competence requirements, to finally present the main results reported in the literature (why). Research limitations/implications This paper presents an innovative perspective of interactions between digital technologies and LSS practices, expanding knowledge about Digital LSS. Such perspective gives emphasis to the importance of technical requirements, such as communication and connectivity protocols, network topology, machine-to-machine communication (M2M), human–machine interfaces (HMI), as well as analytical and digital skills. Practical implications The managerial implications regarding the digitalization of LSS practices address the investments required for the acquisition and maintenance of cyber-physical systems (CPS). Moreover, there is a need for the development of skills so that operators can successfully use the new technologies in a context of continuous improvement. Originality/value This paper presents a conceptual framework covering 13 CPs between LSS practices and Industry 4.0 technologies, the technical requirements and the expected results. It is hoped that this framework can assist future research and operational excellence projects towards digitalization.
Na prática das equipes de projeto de software é comum observar o uso de métodos ágeis com técnicas adicionais, por exemplo o Design Thinking. O que existe em comum entre estas técnicas e a criação de Visões de Produto? Este artigo investiga os paradigmas na contextualização das propriedades de um conceito de produto criadas por meio dos princípios do DT e das Visões de Produto dentro da conjuntura do desenvolvimento de software. A análise foi realizada em duas etapas. Primeiro, por meio de uma revisão sistemática da literatura sobre o relacionamento entre esses dois termos na área de tecnologia da informação (TI), focando a importância de que a geração de conceitos iniciais de produtos, guiadas por equipes, devem ser executadas por meio de ferramentas do design e pela criação de Visões de Produto. E segundo, através da apresentação de um estudo de caso, que mostra como esses princípios se integraram no processo de tradução das necessidades dos usuários em requisitos funcionais. Os resultados mostram que existem limitações na integração do DT e da Visão de Produto em práticas da gestão ágil, e que esses métodos podem se complementar e proporcionar o aprendizado coletivo dependendo da estratégia da equipe.
RESUMO O objetivo da pesquisa é identificar o impacto e descrever o comportamento da infraestrutura organizacional nos estágios de desenvolvimento da gestão do conhecimento. Para tal foi realizado um levantamento de dados com 125 gestores das 46 Unidades da Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária - Embrapa, empresa de base tecnológica nacionalmente reconhecida devido aos altos índices de inovação. Neste estudo a infraestrutura organizacional necessária ao desenvolvimento da gestão do conhecimento foi definida como: estrutura organizacional, tomada de decisão, processo de comunicação, grau de formalização das atividades e ambiente. Os resultados revelam que a estrutura organizacional se torna mais flexível, a tomada de decisão mais descentralizada, a comunicação em todos os sentidos sofre um aumento consecutivo e o ambiente permite maior interação e troca de conhecimento entre as pessoas ao longo do avanço dos estágios, corroborando com a teoria. No entanto, exatamente ao contrário do que sugere a teoria, o grau de formalização das atividades aumenta com o avanço dos estágios. A pesquisa contribui ao complementar o estudo da gestão do conhecimento e ao identificar e descrever, empiricamente pela primeira vez, a variável infraestrutura organizacional nos estágios da gestão do conhecimento.
The aim of this paper is to identify the impact and describe the behavior of the organizational infrastructure in the stages of the knowledge management development. For this, a data collection was carried out with 125 managers of the 46 Units of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Company - Embrapa, a Technology-Based Company, which is national and internationally recognized due to its high innovation rates. In this study, the organizational infrastructure required to develop the knowledge management was defined as: organizational structure, decision-making, communication process, degree of formalization of activities and organizational environment. The results concluded that the organizational structure becomes more flexible, the decision-making more decentralized, the communication process in all directions (top down, bottom up and between areas) increases consecutively and the environment allows greater communication and interaction among people throughout the advancement the stages, corroborating the theory. However, in the opposite direction to what is suggested by the theory, the degree of formalization of activities increases over the development of the stages. The research contributes to complement the study of knowledge management and to identify and describe, empirically for the first time, the organizational structure of knowledge management stages.
Research and Technology Organizations (RTOs) are significant elements for National Innovation Systems (NISs), with the potential of articulating different actors for social and technological development. Although RTOs are not so often identified in innovation ecosystem studies, the literature points out difficulties in their managerial processes, especially for institutions in developing countries. Thus, this research objective is to systematically analyze the literature aiming at a better understanding about the integration between processes and resources of existing management models for RTOs as an opportunity to identify gaps and to define possible fronts of interventions. It seeks to make explicit, in a broader way, aspects that can subsidize the operationalization of NISs in developing countries. The systematic literature review was carried out from the Web of Science (WoS) and the Scopus databases and evidenced contributions related to the dynamics of the management models adopted. In spite of the unfolding in practices and structures that may favor the effectiveness of research, development and innovation (RD&I), the identified models address only specific areas of management, which opens up opportunities for conducting studies that explore the systemic management of RD&I in RTOs, among other deployments.
Um dos principais desafios enfrentados pela gestão de portfólio de produtos é a gestão das informações para a tomada de decisão de projetos. Alguns autores relatam que para facilitar a comunicação e a troca de informações nas relações organizacionais é necessário desenvolver a socialização, oriunda da gestão do conhecimento e facilitada pela integração interfuncional, a qual fortalece tais relações, desempenhando, portanto, importante papel na gestão de portfólio de produtos. Baseado em uma revisão bibliográfica sistemática, o presente trabalho apresenta um modelo teórico conceitual que relaciona as teorias de gestão de portfólio de produtos, integração interfuncional e socialização, tendo como característica a possível mediação parcial desta última entre a relação das duas primeiras teorias citadas. O modelo construído é uma contribuição para o estado da arte das teorias e para os segmentos empresariais porque diz respeito ao quanto as relações organizacionais, com ênfase em informações, podem influenciar de maneira direta aspectos relacionados à sobrevivência organizacional, como o processo de desenvolvimento de produtos e a correta inserção desses produtos em mercado.
The increasing trend of product recalls is due to quality implications in the early stages of the Product Development Process (PDP) and could be prevented through preventive measures from the quality management system such as Design Failure Modes Analysis and Effects (DFMEA), one of the main tools of Quality Engineering. Besides the quality of products, functional integration is also considered one of the ways in which companies respond to competitive pressures. Thus, in the search for best practices to organize and manage product development, this article aims to examine the role of DFMEA in the context of functional integration between Product Development (PD) and Quality Engineering (QE) through case studies in two Brazilian industrial companies. The companies differ in the physical proximity between these departments, where one case PD and QE are co-located and the other are located in different cities and states. The results point that the use of integration practices such as Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and co-location during a DFMEA and despite the advancement of ICTs, co-location has indicated that it is a relevant mechanism to improve problem solving, due to the detail of the information and dynamism of the discussion meetings of failures and solutions. In addition, companies link the compensation system of employees to the failure rates of the new product in the market and the costs of non-quality boosting communication and collaboration between teams. In one of the cases, the integration is also facilitated by the PD and QE activities and the DFMEA reports are reported to the same manager.
Abstract The aim of this paper is to conduct a systematic review of knowledge management maturity models, indicating shortcomings, identifying relevant factors for the models and suggesting improvements. This study can be characterized as a theoretical research based on a systematic literature review. This paper contributed through a review and analysis of existing knowledge management maturity models to bring forth their contributions and drawbacks; the main criticisms and shortcomings of these models and factors relevant to the development of knowledge management maturity were identified, systematic and conceptually, which must be confirmed and explored through empirical research.
The goal of this article is to identify and understand the relationship between the critical success factors (CSFs) of project manufacturing environments and project performance. This article explores those relationships through the logistic regression method, using a sample of 182 respondents and quantifying the influence of CSFs on success achievement in four dimensions (efficiency, impact on consumers, impact on the team, and preparation for the future). The results show that not all CSFs are significant in explaining project success. Thus, project managers must evaluate the influence of each one and consider it in their decisions.
Purpose This study aims to analyze the relationship between the adherence to critical chain project management (CCPM) practices and the new product development performance, in terms of the results of product development programs and product portfolio management (PPM). Design/methodology/approach A survey was conducted with 79 innovative companies operating in Brazil. Data were analyzed using correlation analysis and non-parametric tests. Findings Significant and positive correlations were found between CCPM adoption and the performance factors proposed. The adoption of CCPM offered stronger correlation with PPM performance than with the adoption of traditional methods. The results further indicate a possible indirect contribution of CCPM practices to the product development program by means of PPM improvement. Originality/value This study deepens the knowledge of the joint study between project management and new product development, by bringing empirical evidence that the adoption of specific practices suggested by CCPM is used by organizations with superior performance. Moreover, the results broaden CCPM literature by attesting that companies do not necessarily have to apply the CCPM approach in a formal and explicit way to obtain the performance results given. The analyses still have practical value when indicating which CCPM practices should be prioritized by managers seeking high performance in PPM.
One challenge for designers is how to express emotions to clients when helping them analyze ideas for the development of products. Mood boards, which comprise a set of images and words, are one of the most common tools for synthesizing a client's perception and instructing the designer about visual communication. The creation of these boards is time-consuming and becomes static before the end of the design process. This article investigates the possibility of building a kansei engineering system that is based on rough set probability statistics and is capable of linking kansei words obtained from clients with images that can be continuously collected online. The result is a proposal for a new kansei engineering procedure that contains five cycles and captures users' opinions in all phases of the design process. A subset of real data is used in the application of this procedure to a consumer product, which demonstrates the feasibility of this kind of application. The article presents a complete theoretical model of this system and its procedures and algorithms, which enables the creation of automatic mood boards and connects designers to users' needs.
