Pressure exerted by cows against the feeding rail and side rails, neck rail and brisket board of cubicles was recorded by means of pressure transducers. Video surveillance was used to examine the nature of the body contact.
On the Danish National Research Farm (herd 1), and in two commercial dairy herds (herds 2 and 3) experiments were carried out on the effects of different groupings of first-calf cows: •Group N: First-calf cows in a group with older cows;•Group F: First-calf cows isolated from older cows.
From a long-term experiment with three different types of housing for dairy cows, preliminary results are given for milk production, feeding efficiency and reproductive performance. The three types of housing are: (1) a conventional tie-barn, (2) an insulated cubicle (free-stall) barn with slatted floors, and (3) an uninsulated loafing barn (deep-bedding).
