Supplemental Digital Content is Available in the Text. Abstract: Nowadays, there is limited prevention and treatment for myocardial fibrosis in diabetic cardiomyopathy (DCM). Our study aimed to depict the mechanism of the lncRNA TUG1/miR-145a-5p/Cfl2 axis in DCM and to provide a molecular basis for the study of this disease. Male C57BL/6J mice were intraperitoneally injected with streptozotocin to establish DCM mouse models. The expression levels of lncRNA TUG1, miR-145a-5p, and Cfl2 in myocardial tissues of mice were tested by RT-qPCR or Western blot. Cardiac function was assessed by echocardiography. The contents of Ang-II, TNF-α, and IL-1β were measured using ELISA. The histopathological observation was performed by HE staining and Masson staining. The expression levels of myocardial fibrosis–related genes COL1A1, MMP2, and FN1 were determined by RT-qPCR. In addition, bioinformatics website, RIP assay, pull-down assay, and luciferase activity assay were conducted to verify the relationships of lncRNA TUG1, miR-145a-5p, and Cfl2. In the DCM mouse model, lncRNA TUG1 and Cfl2 expression levels were upregulated and miR-145a-5p expression was downregulated. Downregulation of lncRNA TUG1 improved cardiac function and myocardial fibrosis; decreased COL1A1, MMP2, and FN1 expression levels; as well as TNF-α, IL-1β, and Ang-II contents in myocardial tissues of DCM mice. Upregulation of miR-145a-5p showed the same trend as downregulation of lncRNA TUG1. In addition, upregulating miR-145a-5p reversed the promotion roles of lncRNA TUG1 on myocardial fibrosis in DCM mice, and upregulating Cfl2 compromised the improvement effect of downregulated lncRNA TUG1 on myocardial fibrosis in DCM mice. Mechanistically, there was a binding site between lncRNA TUG1 and miR-145a-5p, and miR-145a-5p had a targeting relationship with Cfl2. This study highlights that lncRNA TUG1 sponges miR-145a-5p to aggravate myocardial fibrosis in DCM mice by promoting Cfl2.
Atrial fibrillation (AF), the most prevalent type of sustained cardiac dysrhythmia globally, confers strikingly enhanced risks for cognitive dysfunction, stroke, chronic cardiac failure, and sudden cardiovascular demise. Aggregating studies underscore the crucial roles of inherited determinants in the occurrence and perpetuation of AF. However, due to conspicuous genetic heterogeneity, the inherited defects accounting for AF remain largely indefinite. Here, via whole-genome genotyping with genetic markers and a linkage assay in a family suffering from AF, a new AF-causative locus was located at human chromosome 7p14.2-p14.3, a ~4.89 cM (~4.43-Mb) interval between the markers D7S526 and D7S2250. An exome-wide sequencing assay unveiled that, at the defined locus, the mutation in the TBX20 gene, NM_001077653.2: c.695A>G; p.(His232Arg), was solely co-segregated with AF in the family. Additionally, a Sanger sequencing assay of TBX20 in another family suffering from AF uncovered a novel mutation, NM_001077653.2: c.862G>C; p.(Asp288His). Neither of the two mutations were observed in 600 unrelated control individuals. Functional investigations demonstrated that the two mutations both significantly reduced the transactivation of the target gene KCNH2 (a well-established AF-causing gene) and the ability to bind the promoter of KCNH2, while they had no effect on the nuclear distribution of TBX20. Conclusively, these findings reveal a new AF-causative locus at human chromosome 7p14.2-p14.3 and strongly indicate TBX20 as a novel AF-predisposing gene, shedding light on the mechanism underlying AF and suggesting clinical significance for the allele-specific treatment of AF patients.
Ice crystals produced through freeze-desalination of seawater often contain salt pockets that impede the desalination rate. The researchers used phase-field and lattice Boltzmann methods to analyse the influence of magnetic fields on crystal subcooling and the growth law of seawater crystallisation. Results showed that using a DC magnetic field increased the directional growth of ice crystals, leading to a 103.9 % increase in ice crystal area and a 13.05 % reduction in salt pockets compared to no magnetic field. Increasing the strength of the magnetic field improved the overall desalination rate by 25.8 %. The application of an AC magnetic field enhanced the ice crystal area by 37.8 % and the overall desalination rate by 17.0 %, but also increased salt pockets by 11.6 %. The step magnetic field did not affect the crystal area but enhanced the overall desalination rate by 14.3 %. Overall, this study demonstrates the potential for improving the efficiency of freeze desalination by controlling magnetic fields during the sea-ice growth process.
目的 探讨老年高血压病患者平均动脉压(MAP)水平与白细胞计数(WBC)的相关性.方法 选取2020 年1 月—2022 年6 月体检者中年龄≥60 岁的高血压病1 874 例为研究对象,测量其身高、体质量、腰围、臀围和血压,计算MAP,检测外周血WBC、总胆固醇、三酰甘油、低密度脂蛋白胆固醇、高密度脂蛋白胆固醇、肌酐、丙氨酸转氨酶、空腹血糖.根据 MAP 分为 4 组:Q1 组(≤96.3 mmHg)、Q2 组(96.4~100.0 mmHg)、Q3 组(100.1~106.7 mmHg)、Q4 组(≥106.8 mmHg).探讨老年高血压病患者MAP与其他观察指标的相关性,老年高血压病患者WBC升高危险性采用多元Logistic回归分析.结果 Q4 组发生WBC升高的概率是Q1 组的 2.90 倍(95%CI:2.05,4.10),Q3 组发生WBC升高的概率是Q1 组的2.83 倍(95%CI:2.00,4.02),Q2 组发生WBC升高的概率是Q1 组的2.28 倍(95%CI:1.60,3.25),在校正年龄及心血管疾病危险因素后,上述关联仍存在,差异有统计学意义(P<0.01).WBC、体质量指数、总胆固醇、低密度脂蛋白胆固醇与MAP独立相关(P<0.01).结论 老年高血压病患者WBC水平与MAP升高有关,且这种作用独立于其他危险因素,MAP水平与老年高血压病患者体内慢性炎症反应相关.
Objective:To investigate the relationship of plasma cholinesterase (ChE) with triglyceride (TG) levels in newly diagnosed patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM).Methods:Clinical data and biochemical parameters of 321 patients with newly diagnosed T2DM admitted to the Department of Endocrinology of People′s Hospital of Shanghai Putuo from January 2018 to June 2020 were retrospectively collected. The patients were classified into four groups based on the plasma ChE level: Q1group ( n=81, <6 915 U/L), Q2 group ( n=80, 6 916-8 268 U/L), Q3 group ( n=80, 8 269-9 578 U/L), and Q4 group ( n=80, ≥9 579 U/L). The correlation of plasma ChE with TG level was analyzed. Results:With the increased ChE level, TG level significantly increased ( P<0.001). Correlation analysis showed that ChE was positively correlated with body weight, body mass index (BMI), TG, total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), uric acid (UA), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST)( r=0.35, 0.39, 0.35, 0.31, 0.27, 0.24, 0.25, 0.11, P<0.05, P<0.01 or P<0.001)while negatively correlated with age, systolic blood pressure, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, and glycated albumin (GA)( r=-0.46、-0.14、-0.20、-0.14、-0.21, P<0.05 or P<0.001). Multivariate stepwise regression analysis showed that ChE was an independent risk factor for TG ( β=0.270, P<0.001). Logistic Multivariate regression analysis showed that after adjustment for sex, age, body weight, hemoglobin, leukocytes, total protein, albumin, globulin, ALT, BUN, creatinine, uric acid, smoking history, drinking history, HbA 1C, GA, TC, and LDL-C, the risk of hypertriglyceridemia in Q4 was 6.024 folds higher than Q1 group ( P=0.011). With the TG (1.70 mmol/L) as cut-off value, the optimal cut-off point of the ChE was 7 801 U/L, as calculated by receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve analysis of ChE and hypertriglyceridemia. Conclusions:ChE level is positively correlated with TG in newly diagnosed patients with T2DM.
High concentration of brine pockets formed during seawater freeze crystallisation reduces the freeze desalination efficiency. In this study, the inhibitory effect of salt-adsorption on brine pockets formation was investigated by simulation and experimental methods. A phase-field model coupled with the adsorption kinetic equation was established. The experiments on oriented growth of sea ice assisted with adsorption were conducted. In addition, the effects of adsorption on the morphology of ice crystals and brine pockets were studied. The results show that under the effect of adsorption, the planar crystal layer became thicker, the columnar crystals had a lower aspect ratio, the growth of brine pockets was inhibited, and the brine channels between adjacent ice crystals were reduced significantly. Stronger adsorption effect leads to less brine pockets. The area of ice crystals is increased by 6.08% in simulation and 11.79% in experiments, respectively. Moreover, the ice crystal growth rate and Peclet number were consistent between the simulation and experiment. The tip solute migration rate under adsorption increased by 17.69% compared with that without adsorption. This indicates that adsorption inhibits brine pockets formation in seawater freeze desalination and is favourable for improving the desalination rate.
This study presents a novel phase field method (PFM) -lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) coupled model that describes the ice crystal growth in sea water freezing. Sea water frozen crystalisation impacted by flow and heterogeneous nucleation was numerically and experimentally investigated. The PFM-LBM model was estab-lished to conduct simulation. A microscope observation experimental system was built to conduct verification. The results show that flow of sea water effectively promotes the diffusion of discharged salt and the growth of ice crystals, and reduces the probability of dendrite closure. In the directional competitive growth of ice crystals, the salt content trapped in the ice crystals decreased by 17.4% at 0.025 m/s and 21.9% at 0.05 m/s, while the existence of heterogeneous particles resulted in a narrower the brine channel and higher ice crystal growth rate, of which the ice crystal area increased by 10.8% and the trapped salt content in the ice crystals decreased by 14.8%. The study provides both a methodology of numerically simulate sea ice crystallisation which includes the phase change, solute migration, heat transfer and flow, and a feasible controlling approach to improve desali-nation efficiency of sea water frozen crystallisation.
ABSTRACT:Atherosclerosis is a chronic lipid-induced inflammation of the vessel wall. Oxidized low-density lipoprotein was confirmed to drive the onset of atherogenesis. Zinc finger e-box-binding homeobox 1 antisense 1 (ZEB1-AS1) is a long noncoding RNA that is involved in human diseases, including atherosclerosis. In this study, the role of exosomes-mediated ZEB1-AS1 and its underlying mechanisms in atherosclerosis were explored in oxidized low-density lipoprotein (ox-LDL)-treated human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). Exosomes were extracted from HUVECs. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was conducted to measure the expression of ZEB1-AS1, microRNA-590-5p (miR-590-5p), or erythroblastosis virus E26 oncogene homolog 1 (ETS1) in cells or exosomes. Cell proliferation and apoptosis were assessed by MTT assay and flow cytometry analysis, respectively. Western blot was performed to detect apoptosis-related factors, ETS1, and TGF-β/Smad pathway protein levels. The secretion of inflammatory factors in supernatant was detected by ELISA assay. Oxidative stress damage indicators were used to assess cellular damage. Relationship between miR-590-5p and ZEB1-AS1 or ETS1 was analyzed. Our data indicated that ox-LDL-induced exosomes-mediated ZEB1-AS1 in HUVECs. Ox-LDL treatment resulted in limited proliferation, proapoptosis, inflammation, and oxidative stress damage, whereas knockdown of ZEB1-AS1 could reverse these effects. Mechanically, ZEB1-AS1 sponged miR-590-5p to regulate ETS1 expression. MiR-590-5p knockdown inverted effects above of si-ZEB1-AS1 on HUVECs under ox-LDL exposure. Moreover, ETS1 reversed miR-590-5p-induced effects and activated the TGF-β/Smad pathway in ox-LDL-treated HUVECs. Taken together, our findings demonstrated that exosomes-mediated ZEB1-AS1 enhanced cell injuries by miR-590-5p/ETS1 axis through the TGF-β/Smad pathway in ox-LDL-induced HUVECs, suggesting that inhibiting ZEB1-AS1 might be an effective way for atherosclerosis treatment.
Objective:To investigate the relationship between normal plasma fibrinogen(FIB)levels and disease duration in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).Methods:Clinical data and biochemical test results of 1 116 elderly subjects with T2DM admitted to the Department of Endocrinology of Shanghai Tianyou Hospital from January 2016 to October 2019 were retrospectively collected and analyzed.Subjects were classified into four groups based on the duration of DM: the Q1 group(n=276, < 2.0 years), the Q2 group(n=278, 2.0-7.9 years), the Q3 group(n=280, 8.0-13.9 years)and the Q4 group(n=282, ≥ 14.0 years). The correlation between FIB and the duration of DM was analyzed.Results:With the prolongation of DM duration, FIB levels increased significantly( P<0.05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that the duration of DM was positively correlated with FIB, age and serum creatinine( P<0.01). Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that the duration of DM was an independent factor for FIB( β=0.104, P<0.01). Logistic multiple regression analysis showed that after adjusting for sex, age, body mass index, systolic pressure, diastolic pressure, total cholesterol, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, serum creatinine, alanine aminotransferase, fasting plasma glucose, glycosylated hemoglobin, smoking and drinking, the risk of hyperfibrinogenemia was 2.436 and 2.104 times higher, respectively, in Group Q4 and Group Q3 than in Group Q1(95% CI: 1.317-4.507, P<0.01; 95% CI: 1.144-3.871, P<0.05). With the third-quartile FIB(3.70 g/L)as the cut-off value, the optimal cut-off point of the DM course was 9.5 years as calculated by receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve analysis of DM duration and hyperfibrinogenemia. Conclusions:The FIB level is positively correlated with DM duration in elderly patients with T2DM.
Chemotherapy resistance is one of the major challenges in the treatment of liver cancer (LC). The present study aimed to investigate the potential roles of Yes‑associated protein (YAP), the core component of the Hippo signaling pathway, in chemoresistance of LC. YAP expression and its function in chemoresistance of LC cells were investigated. It was revealed that the expression levels and nuclear localization of YAP were increased in cisplatin (CDDP)‑resistant LC (LC/CDDP) cells. The targeted inhibition of YAP using small interfering RNA or an inhibitor restored the CDDP sensitivity of LC cells. YAP overexpression was discovered to be essential for the increase of IL‑6 and TGF‑β expression levels in LC/CDDP cells. Furthermore, it was identified that increased mRNA stability was the primary reason for the upregulation of YAP expression in LC/CDDP cells, which was due to the downregulation of microRNA (miR)‑375 expression in LC/CDDP cells. In conclusion, the findings of the present study suggested that the miR‑375/YAP axis may regulate the expression levels of IL‑6 and TGF‑β, which may subsequently be involved in the CDDP resistance of LC cells. The current results indicated that the targeted inhibition of this axis and signaling pathway may be helpful in overcoming CDDP resistance.
目的 探讨老年人群血小板参数与其血压水平的相关性.方法 收集2016年1月至2019年8月于同济大学附属天佑医院门诊及体检的1023例老年人的临床资料.根据血压水平将其分为3组:正常血压组(<120/80 mmHg,215例)、高血压前期组[(120~139/80~89)mmHg,531例]、高血压组(≥140/90 mmHg,277例),分析血小板参数与血压的相关性.结果 高血压组和高血压前期组的血小板平均体积(MPV)和血小板分布宽度(PDW)均高于正常血压组(P<0.05),而各组间PLT和血小板压积(PCT)的差异均无统计学意义(P>0.05).Spearman相关分析显示,MPV和PDW与SBP均呈显著正相关(P<0.01),而PLT和PCT均与SBP无相关性(P>0.05),MPV、PDW、PLT和PCT均与DBP无相关性(P>0.05).多元线性回归分析显示,MPV是SBP的独立影响因素(β=0.110,P<0.01).按照MPV四分位法将研究对象由低到高分为Q1~Q4组,多元Logistic回归分析显示,在校正性别、年龄、身高、体质量、BMI、腰围、臀围、腰臀比、TC、TG、LDL-C、血肌酐、ALT、FPG、吸烟、饮酒因素后,Q4组发生高血压的危险性是Q1组的1.529倍(95%CI:1.106~2.319,P<0.05).结论 老年人群血小板参数与其血压水平密切相关,其中MPV升高可能与高血压的发生及发展有关.
Water‐soluble dietary fibers have been shown to improve lipid profile and glucose metabolism in diabetes. The aim of this study was to review the effects of psyllium consumption on weight, body mass index, lipid profiles, and glucose metabolism in diabetic patients in randomized controlled trials. A comprehensive systematic search was performed in PubMed/MEDLINE, Web of Sciences, Cochrane, and Scopus by two independent researchers up to August 2019 without any time and language restrictions. The DerSimonian and Laird random‐effects model method performed to calculate the pooled results. Inclusion criteria were randomized controlled trial design, adult subjects, and studies reporting the mean differences with the 95% confidence interval for outcome. Eight studies containing nine arms with 395 participants were identified and included in final analysis. Combined results found a significant reduction in triglycerides, low‐density lipoprotein, fasting blood sugar, and hemoglobin A1c following psyllium consumption (weighted mean differences [WMD]: −19.18 mg/dl, 95% CI [−31.76, −6.60], I2 = 98%), (WMD: −8.96 mg/dl, 95% CI [−13.39, −4.52], I2 = 97%), (WMD: −31.71 ml/dl, 95% CI [−50.04, −13.38], I2 = 97%), and (WMD: −0.91%, 95% CI [−1.31, −0.51], I2 = 99%), respectively. There was no significant change in high‐density lipoprotein, body mass index, cholesterol, and weight. In conclusion, the results demonstrated a significant reduction in triglycerides, low‐density lipoprotein, fasting blood sugar, and hemoglobin A1c by psyllium intervention among diabetic patients.

In this study, ice crystal growth in the freezing desalination process of binary water-NaCl system is investigated. The phase field method is used to conduct simulation and predict dendrite growth behaviour during the crystallization of sea ice. An experimental setup focusing on the directional crystallization of binary water-NaCl solutions on the horizontal wall is established to verify the e theoretical model. The results show that the crystal with single nucleus obtains obvious six-fold symmetry, while in the competitive crystallization of multiple crystal nuclei, spindle growth is inhibited. Brine channels and salt cells are formed in the directional crystallization, seawater consists of higher Mg(2+)and SO42- get more difficult in freezing desalination. The degree of subcooling significantly affects the salt cell concentration at the roots, the solid phase ratio, and the height of the planar crystal, while the heat flux significantly affects dendrite growth rate. The experimental average tip growth rate is 9.15 x 10(-5) m/s, and the experimental average tip radius is 5.16 x 10(-6) m. Peclet number of both simulation and experiment have the same order of magnitudes, with 0.1-0.2 and 0.3-0.6, respectively, which suggests the three-field coupling model established is reasonable for desalination simulation.
目的 探讨T2DM患者正常范围内血清直接胆红素(DBIL)与尿微量白蛋白(UmAlb)的相关性.方法 选取2011年10月至2013年10月于上海市第五人民医院内分泌科住院的T2DM患者1122例.按照DBIL四分位数分为Q1组(<2.5μmol/L)、Q2组(2.5~3.4μmol/L)、Q3组(3.4~4.3μmol/L)、Q4组(≥4.3μmol/L),分析血清DBIL与UACR的相关性.结果 随着DBIL水平降低,UACR升高(P<0.05).Pearson相关分析显示,DBIL与病程、Scr、UACR呈负相关(P<0.01),与性别无相关性.多元逐步回归分析结果显示,DBIL是UACR的独立影响因素(β=-0.248,P<0.01).Logistic回归分析结果显示,校正性别、年龄、病程、BMI、SBP、HbAlc、TC、TG、LDL–C、Scr、丙氨酸转氨酶(ALT)、吸烟史和饮酒史因素后,Q1组发生UmAlb和显性白蛋白尿的风险是Q4组的1.543倍和3.534倍(95%CI 1.150~2.071,1.597~7.818,P<0.01),Q2组是Q4组的1.364倍和2.068倍(95%CI 1.018~1.926,1.029~4.601,P<0.05).以UACR 30 mg/g、300 mg/g为分界值,绘制受试者工作特征曲线(ROC),DBIL最佳切点值为3.45μmol/L和2.75μmol/L.结论 T2DM患者血清DBIL与UmAlb密切相关.
目的 探讨社区老年高血压前期人群中脉压(PP)水平与白细胞(WBC)计数的相关性.方法 选取2014年5-7月上海市闵行区古美社区846例年龄≥60岁的健康体检者为研究对象.测量其身高、体重、腰围(W)、臀围(H)和血压,检测外周血WBC计数、空腹血糖(FBG)、血脂、血肌酐(Cr)和丙氨酸转氨酶(ALT).根据PP水平的四分位数,将其分为4组:Q1组(<40 mmHg)、Q2组(40~48 mmHg)、Q3组(49~53 mmHg)、Q4组(≥54 mmHg).结果 随着PP水平升高,WBC水平逐渐升高(P<0.05).Spearman相关分析显示,无论男性或女性,WBC计数与PP和甘油三酯(TG)均存在显著正相关,与高密度脂蛋白胆固醇(HDL-C)存在显著负相关(P<0.01).logistic回归分析显示,在校正性别、年龄、体重、W、H、总胆固醇(TC)、TG、低密度脂蛋白胆固醇(LDL-C)和FBG后,PP最高四分位组(Q4组)发生白细胞升高(WBC≥ 6.50× 109/L)是PP最低四分位组(Q1组)的2.76倍(95%CI:1.72~4.35,P<0.01).多元逐步回归显示,WBC计数是PP的独立危险因素(β值为0.364,P=0.000).结论 社区老年高血压前期人群中WBC计数升高与其PP水平升高有关,且这种作用独立于其他多重危险因素.
Objective To analyze the relationship between white blood cell count ( WBC) and blood pressure in old subjects with prehypertension. Methods This study enrolled 849 subjects undergoing health examinations aged 60 years or over from Gumei Community of Shanghai. The height,waist circumference ( W) , hip circumference ( H) , weight, blood pressure, white blood cell count, fasting blood glucose and blood lipid were measured. The subjects were classified into three groups according to the level of blood pressure, normal blood pressure group (<120/80 mmHg, n= 257 ) , prehypertension group 1( 120~129/80~84 mmHg,n=265) , prehypertension group 2 ( 130~139/85~89 mmHg,n=327) . Results White blood cell count increased with the increase of blood pressure ( P<0?05) . Pearson correlation analysis showed that WBC was positively related to systolic blood pressure (SBP) and triglyceride (TG), but negatively correlated with high density lipoprotein cholesterol ( HDL?C) in men and women ( P<0?01) . Logistic regression analysis showed that the risk of elevated WBC in prehypertension group 2 was 1?51 times (95%CI:1?01~2?25,P<0?05) of that in normal blood pressure group after adjusting for age, gender, weight, W, H, TG, total cholesterol ( TC) , low density lipoprotein cholesterol ( LDL?C) and body mass index ( BMI) . Multiple line regression analysis showed that WBC was an independent factor of SBP and diastolic blood pressure (DBP) (B=0?169 and 0?099, all P<0?01). Conclusions In the subjects aged 60 years or over with prehypertension, elevated WBC count is independently associated with the increase of blood pressure.
Objective To investigate the relationship between white blood cell count (WBC) and blood pressure control in elderly patients with hypertension.Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in 1919 patients with hypertension aged 60 years or over who took one or more antihypertensive drugs from Jiangchuan Community of Shanghai.Height,weight,waist circumference,hip circumference,blood pressure,blood white blood cell count,blood lipid,fasting blood glucose and serum creatinine were measured.Subjects were classified into four groups:BP ≥120/80 mmHg(n=218) ;120-139/80~89 mmHg(n=632) ; 140-159/90-99 mmHg(n=754) ;≥160/100 mmHg (n=315).Results White blood cell count was increased with the gradually increasing blood pressure (P<0.05).Pearson correlation analysis showed that WBC was positively related to systolic blood pressure,pulse pressure,body mass index,weight,waist,waist hip ratio,triglyceride and fasting blood glucose levels in male subjects (r=0.13,0.12,0.14,0.13,0.13,0.15,0.12 and 0.17,all P<0.01).Logistic regression analysis showed that the increase of WBC count was 1.518 folds higher in highest blood pressure group (≥160/100 mmHg) than in lowest blood pressure group (120/80 mmHg) (95%CI:1.003-2.298,P<0.05) after adjusting for age and cardiovascular disease risk factors.Multiple regression analysis showed that WBC count was the independent factor for systolic blood pressure and pulse pressure (β =0.060 and 0.059,both P< 0.01).While BP 140/90mmHg as the boundary,the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was used to evaluate the value of WBC count for blood pressure control.The optimal cut-off value of WBC was 5.25 109/L.Conclusions For the elderly patients with hypertension,the white blood cell count is increased with the poor blood pressure control.White blood cell count may be used as one of predictors for blood pressure control.
Objective To analyze the relationship between hemoglobin(Hb)level and blood pressure in elderly subjects.Methods This study was composed of 2 101 subjects of health examinations aged 60 years or above from Jiangchuan Community of Shanghai.The height,weight,waist(W),hip(H), blood pressure levels,Hb,blood lipid,fasting blood glucose(FBG),serum creatinine (Cr)and alanine transaminase(ALT)were measured.Subjects were classified into three groups according to blood pressure levels(normal blood pressure group:<120 /80 mmHg,n =477;prehypertension group:120 ~139 /80 ~89 mmHg,n =773;hypertension group:≥140 /90 mmHg,n =851).Results Blood pressure elevated with the gradually increasing Hb levels(P <0.05 ).Pearson correlation analysis showed that Hb significant positive correlated with weight,W,H,systolic blood pressure (SBP),diastolic blood pressure (DBP), ALT,triglyceride(TG),FBG and body mass index(BMI),but significant negative correlated with high density lipoprotein cholesterol(P <0.01 ).Logistic regression analysis showed that the highest quartile group of Hb in the risk of hypertension as the lowest quartile group was 2.461 times after adjusting for gender and cardiovascular disease risk factors.Multiple regression analysis showed that Hb was the inde-pendent risk factor of SBP and DBP.Conclusion For the subjects aged 60 years or above,blood pressure was elevated with the increasing Hb levels,elevated hemoglobin may be associated with the occurrence and development of hypertension.
