It is known that oil compounds are capable of rotating the plane of polarization of light by a certain angle of rotation, thereby forming the optical activity of oil. The value of the specific angle of rotation for oils is usually within 1-47 degrees with a positive value. However, it is also known that biomarkers, phytosterols, sterols and other relict compounds contained in oils are capable of rotating the plane of polarization of light to the left, i.e. exhibiting a negative angle of rotation. This tendency is observed in equatorial oils, in particular, oils from Java, Argentina, Borneo, and these oils have a negative angle of rotation. Further studies led scientists to the conclusion that the optical activity of oil is directly related to the fractional composition of oil, namely, with an increase in the boiling point of oil, the value of its optical activity increases. In light oil fractions, optical activity is practically not observed. The significance of optical activity of oil is as follows: The purpose of this study was to study the optical activity of some Azerbaijani oils, namely oil from the Zagly, Jafarly and Naftalan fields. The task was to compare the optical activity of these oils, as well as to identify the correlation between the fractional composition of these oils and their optical activity. The results obtained as a result of the studies showed that Azerbaijani oils have moderate optical activity, and the optical activity of Naftalan oil is higher than that of other studied Azerbaijani oils.
In this work, to prevent the formation of sand plugs in steel pipes during the flow of sand suspension through them, a new method has been developed, based on an analysis of the interaction forces between sand and various metal particles in an aqueous environment. It has been revealed that when metals with low negative standard electrode potentials (Cr or Zn) are used, the accumulation of clay particles on the surface of these metals is less than that of Ni and Fe metals. The results obtained are explained within the framework of the DLVO theory. Based on the results obtained, it is proposed to cover the inner surface of steel pipes with metal films with low negative electrode potentials and select the height of the metal coating equal to the maximum height of the sand plug formed in the pipe in order to completely remove the entire formed plug.
The physicochemical processes taking place in produced waters during oil and gas field operations are key factors that directly impact hydrocarbon production. The formation of salt sediments is of particular importance among these processes. Changes in temperature, pressure, salinity and ionic composition of produced waters lead to the precipitation of calcium, magnesium, barium and other ions in various sulphate and carbonate forms, forming poorly soluble compounds. These sediments accumulate in operating equipment, wellbores, tubing and collector array, leading to reduced production rate, equipment failure and increased operating expenses (OPEX). To prevent these problems, the chemical composition of the produced waters is continuously monitored during operation, the water compatibility is checked before injection, and special scale inhibitors are applied. Scale inhibitors are chemicals applied to prevent or slow the formation of hard-to-dissolve scale deposits in produced waters and process systems during the exploitation of oil and gas fields. Nowadays, it is possible to predict deposition risk in advance using thermodynamic modelling methods, which facilitates the making of more efficient decisions from both technical and economic perspectives. Thus, the correct assessment of the physicochemical processes occurring in wellbore fluids is one of the key conditions for the long-term and safe operation of oil and gas fields. For comparative evaluation in laboratory experiments, we used inhibitors developed by us under the conditional names “BR-2”, “KBRSAM-2”, “NKBR-14”, as well as foreign-made inhibitors “Inkredol” and “PAF-13”. Сonducted studies have shown that the inhibitor NKBR-14 has a higher protective properties than the other inhibitors. 40-50 mg/l inhibitor consumption showed a high protective effect against the precipitation of calcium and magnesium sulphate salts. Keywords: oil production; salt sediments; produced water; salt precipitation inhibitor; nanocomposition; protective effect; potassium sulphate; magnesium sulphate.

Rod pumping systems represent a fundamental component of artificial lift technologies, particularly in the development and exploitation of mature oil fields. Despite their widespread use, the quantitative evaluation of their operational efficiency remains a challenging task, largely due to the nonlinear dynamics of well behavior and the inherent limitations of conventional diagnostic methods. This study presents a comprehensive and structured methodology for evaluating the efficiency of sucker-rod pumping wells by integrating field measurements with advanced computer-based simulation techniques. The proposed framework is based on directly measurable operational parameters in order to formulate a practically applicable concept for evaluating the efficiency of pump operation. Within this framework, efficiency is conceptualized as a function of reservoir productivity, pump fillage factor, production rate, stroke speed, the geometric characteristics of the pump, and other indicators that collectively characterize the well-reservoir system. The proposed methodology is demonstrated under various geo-technological conditions using a computer simulator of the pump-well-reservoir system developed on the basis of the authors' Discrete-Imitation Modeling Concept. It provides a robust analytical basis for evaluating the efficiency of production using sucker-rod pumps and supports the development of informed strategies for production enhancement. The notions of the Pump Productivity Index and the Technological Efficiency Coefficient are introduced, and analytical expressions for efficiency evaluation are presented. Using the simulator, a methodology for the investigation and optimization of the sucker-rod pump well-reservoir system is demonstrated.Validation using data from a real field well confirms the methodological soundness and practical relevance of the approach, demonstrating its potential as an effective decision-support tool for petroleum engineers engaged in the optimization of sucker-rod pump systems.
