The University of La Guajira (Spanish: Universidad de La Guajira, Wayuu: Shikii Ekirajia Pulee Wajira), also known as Uniguajira, is a public, departmental, coeducational, university based primarily in the city of Riohacha, La Guajira, Colombia. The university was established by ordinance No. 011 and 012 of 1976, by the Departmental Assembly, and opened in February 1977. Its main campus, known as the University Citadel (Spanish: Ciudadela Universitaria), is located in the outskirts of the city, and it hosts the faculties of Basic Sciences, Economic and Administrative Sciences, Education Sciences, Engineering, and Social and Humanity Sciences. The university also has several satellite campuses across the department in the cities of Albania, Fonseca, Maicao, Manaure, and Villanueva, and one campus in the department of Córdoba in the city of Montería. The university offers education at technical, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The mascot is a jellyfish, symbolizing power and simplicity..
This study examines the mediating role of Digital Competencies (DCs) in the relationship between Digital Human Resource Management (DHRM) and Digital Transformation (DT) in SMEs in Lima, Peru. Employing a non-experimental, cross-sectional design, data was collected through a structured survey of 272 SME entrepreneurs. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) was selected due to its suitability for mediation analysis in studies with moderate sample sizes and non-normal data distributions. Results indicate that DHRM significantly enhances the development of DCs (β = 0.750), which in turn positively influences DT (β = 0.433). The analysis confirms a partial mediating effect of DCs between DHRM and DT (indirect effect β = 0.325; VAF = 52.7
Reliably estimating precipitation remains a challenge, especially in tropical regions characterized by high climate variability, complex topography, and sparse rainfall station coverage. In these contexts, gridded precipitation satellite products (GPPs) are an important alternative for hydrological analysis, climate assessment, and risk management, which aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation), SDG 11 (resilient cities and communities), and SDG 13 (climate action). This study evaluates the performance of five GPPs: CHIRPSv2, CHIRPSv3, ERA5-Land, MSWEPv2.8, and PERSIANNCDR, in the Ranchería river basin in northern Colombia. The evaluation covered the period 1991–2020 and used continuous and categorical metrics on daily, 3-day, monthly, and annual time scales. Fourteen rainfall stations from the national monitoring network were used as a reference. The study area is a complex hydroclimatic environment ranging from semi-arid lowlands to mountainous terrain influenced by the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (the world’s highest coastal mountain range). This configuration allows analysis of the sensitivity of satellite algorithms to topographic gradients and varying precipitation intensities. The results indicate that CHIRPSv3 has the best overall performance and the highest inter-scale consistency, followed by CHIRPSv2 and PERSIANNCDR. In general, all products improve with temporal aggregation; however, their performance degrades with increasing elevation, especially in ERA5-Land and MSWEPv2.8. The detection of daily extreme events remains limited, with moderate improvements when considering 3-day accumulations. As a general recommendation, satellite products should be selected based on local conditions, such as topography, time scale, and management objectives, to support reliable decision-making.
This article explores possible geo-tourism and geo-education strategies to contribute to the geo-conservation of the Galápagos Islands in Ecuador. The delicate balance between nature-based tourism and biodiversity conservation is crucial, especially for a UNESCO World Heritage site like the Galápagos. Focusing both on the contributions of Charles Darwin, the unique geographical context, and the geodiversity and biodiversity of the islands, the study proposes innovative approaches based on geo-tourism and geo-education to address emerging challenges. Geo-tourism advocates for responsible practices, emphasizing geological wonders, cultural history, and careful trail planning. Geo-education initiatives aim to enhance visitor understanding, fostering a sense of responsibility. Community collaboration and technological integration are proposed to ensure sustainability, providing insights into natural and cultural heritage of the island. The goal is to cultivate a sustainable tourism model that celebrates the uniqueness of Galápagos Islands while mitigating negative environmental impacts.
