The University of San Jose–Recoletos, also referred to by its acronym USJ–R or to its colloquially shortened name San Jose, is a private Catholic research and coeducational basic and higher education institution run by the Order of Augustinian Recollects in Cebu City, Cebu, Philippines. It was founded by the Augustinian Recollects in 1947. From classes held in an old building and a portion of a convent, the school built modern structures while retaining classic features. The university has three campuses. Two of which are located in different areas of Metro Cebu – the main campus along Corner P. Lopez and Magallanes Streets while the Basak Campus is at Cebu South Road, Basak Pardo, Cebu City. Its third campus, the Balamban Campus, is located in Arpili, a barangay in the Municipality of Balamban (in the province of Cebu).
Grounded in DeLone and McLean’s Information Systems Success Model, this study examines the drivers of library loyalty among 550 Gen Z students in Cebu City. Using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), the research found that System and Service Quality positively influence both Intention to Use and User Satisfaction, which are significant predictors of Library Loyalty. While Information Quality significantly affected Satisfaction, AI Chatbot Engagement did not moderate the relationship between quality dimensions and User Satisfaction, suggesting that AI technology does not diminish the perceived value of core library functions. Consequently, the study concludes that to maintain Gen Z patronage, academic libraries must prioritize enhancing their systems, services, and digital resources, while future research should continue to monitor the integration of emerging technologies like AI and virtual reality.
This study examines the impact of foreign direct investment (FDI) on employment growth in the Philippines. The study investigates how FDI affects labor market indicators, including labor force participation, employment, unemployment, and underemployment rates in the long run. Using the yearly data from the World Bank and Philippines Statistics Authority from 1991 to 2022 and the Granger Causality Test, the findings suggest that the number of observations and lags of FDI to labor force participation rate and FDI to employment rate show a significant impact. Nevertheless, the Granger Causality suggests that FDI positively affects both labor force participation and employment rates in the long run and emphasizes the importance of attracting FDI for stimulating employment growth and overall economic development.
This study examines the contemporary practice of random body tattoos among Cebuanos, focusing on the societal factors, perceptions, and motivations that shape this practice. It addresses a gap in the literature that primarily focuses on traditional tattoo practices by examining the lived experiences of individuals who spontaneously acquired tattoos in Cebu City, a location noted for its dynamic urban development and rich cultural environment. Through qualitative interviews and participant observation, the research reveals how personal identity, social acceptance, and cultural expression play pivotal roles in the decision to get random tattoos. Additionally, it highlights the evolving symbolism of tattoos in Cebuano society, illustrating how these body art forms serve as both personal markers and collective narratives within the community. The study employs semi-structured interviews, validated by professionals, within a phenomenological qualitative framework. Thematic analysis was employed to systematically identify recurring patterns and themes in the participants' narratives. The triangulation method was used to integrate multiple data sources and perspectives, thereby enhancing the credibility of the findings. The researchers employed purposive sampling techniques to select participants who met specific criteria, thereby ensuring a diverse range of viewpoints. Results indicate that random tattoos frequently exhibit spontaneity and external influences, such as media and trends, deviating from historically significant designs rooted in deep symbolism. This study highlights the global impact on tattoo culture, offering a nuanced understanding of how contemporary Cebuanos navigate their evolving identities through body art in a rapidly changing social landscape.
Grain storage system plays a crucial role in preserving the quality and quantity of various grains including wheat kernels. Inefficient storage systems can result in spoilage, loss of quality, and reduction in quantity, leading to significant financial losses in the company. The quality of grains storage is influenced by several factors, including moisture content, protein content and falling number. In this study, the threshold, main, and interactions effects of critical parameters the identified critical parameters on grain storage quality were determined and modelled using ROC curve analysis and binary logistic regression analysis. The ROC curve analysis revealed a AUC of 0.992, 0.952, and 0.991 for moisture content, protein content, and falling number, respectively. Threshold values were also calculated and upon evaluation, the accuracies for all critical parameters yielded a significantly excellent result. The main effects of the critical parameters also significantly predicted the grain storage quality with χ2 of 353.26, p-value of 0.000, and R2 value of 61.81%. Furthermore, the interaction effects of the three critical parameters exhibited the greatest effect on grain storage quality. Through binary logistic regression model, the optimum quality grain storage is achieved at a moisture level of 11.42, protein level of 13.99, and a falling number of 443.55. These findings can be used as basis for the selected milling company and other grain storage companies to monitor these critical parameters and ensure a safe storage and quality grains. The study can be furthered improved by investigating other parameters that can determine grain storage quality.
The Philippines is one of the many countries that consume and produce wheat grains. Despite having agricultural resources, the country still struggles to supply wheat and continues to import tons of wheat from different countries. Moreover, being a tropical country, the weather conditions exacerbate the parameters in defining grain quality, and thus, impact the preservation of grains in bulk storage systems. This study aims to understand the fluctuations of moisture content over time and its impact on grain quality and identify trends to utilize in optimizing storage systems management practices. Furthermore, this study investigated the moisture content variations, analyzed the temporal dynamics, and forecasted future trends using the ARIMA model, which can effectively handle time series data and has been applied in several agricultural applications. From the correlation patterns from lag intervals of the correlogram, there is a total of 24 ARIMA models generated with varying (p, d, q) values. These models were then evaluated using log-likelihood, AIC, RMSE, and MAE to select the best- performing and most appropriate model for forecasting wheat moisture content data. Out of these 24 models, Models (4,0,3), (4,0,4), and (1,0,0) are the top performing models, however, Model (4,0,3) emerged as a strong forecasting model in predicting wheat moisture content trends for the forthcoming two-year horizon. Its evaluation performance resulted in a log-likelihood of-69.38384, AIC of 156.7677, RMSE of 0.4248, and MAE of 0.30427, having the least values in three of the validation methods. When used in forecasting, the trend of the moisture content continues to consistently fall within the lower end of the accepted range. The distribution of the predicted values also shows a perfectly normal distribution, showing its effectiveness of the model for forecasting. These findings will serve as a guide towards enhancing operational efficiencies and sustainable growth within the flour milling landscape.
