This study examines the integration of environmental sustainability at Inditex through its annual reports and Instagram posts between 2015 and 2023, using a set of terms linked to the conceptual framework of the circular economy as a reference. Data mining and statistical analysis techniques such as regressions are used to measure the presence and evolution of the selected terms in both communication spaces. Contrary to what might be expected from a leading company in the sector and in a context of increasing regulatory pressure, climate emergency, and social interest in sustainability, the results show a progressive disinterest on Instagram in associating the brand with sustainable messages. In the annual reports, the use of these terms increases significantly, although with a fluctuating trajectory that tends to stabilize. The findings raise important socio-environmental implications by showing that if the company perceives that sustainability does not influence consumer decisions, it could reduce its interest in communicating it and even in applying it, weakening the promotion of responsible practices and discouraging corporate commitment. The results reinforce the need to monitor companies with a high environmental impact in order to ensure the transition to sustainable models.
Assessing individuals’ well-being involves considering their mental state and overall life satisfaction. This article examines well-being in Spain, focusing on both objective and subjective social classes, using data from the Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas (CIS) surveys over the past decade. Happiness and emotional satisfaction as dependent variables are analyzed using some adscriptive variables, alongside the Erikson, Goldthorpe, and Portocarero (EGP) model and subjective social class. The study reveals that well-being in Spain is generally positive and influenced by social class, irrespective of gender and age. Income disparities in Spain are wider than disparities in subjective well-being, highlighting that assessing personal well-being should consider not only income but also individuals’ subjective experiences and life satisfaction. This research underscores the importance of a holistic approach to well-being, recognizing that it encompasses both objective and subjective dimensions, thus providing a more accurate reflection of individuals’ overall life satisfaction in Spain, facilitating a better understanding of the realities of the contemporary Spanish society.
Urban life is challenging, with competing identities, feelings, and social ties in multilingual urban communities. The study aims to investigate the effects of inclusive versus exclusive language on feelings of belonging and social anxiety, and the role of linguistic identity in mediating these associations. 120 young urban Indonesian participants were recruited and randomly assigned to one of three conditions manipulating narratives and audiovisual stimuli with linguistic forms (inclusive, exclusive, neutral). Measures included the Sense of Belonging Instrument, the Language Identity Scale, and the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale. Analysis revealed a significant increase in sense of belonging (F (2,117) = 718.735, p < 0.001) and a strong decrease in social anxiety (Welch ANOVA = 4088.34, p < 0.001) with exposure to inclusive language. A strong negative correlation was found between linguistic identity and social anxiety (r = -0.966, p < 0.001). These findings support the idea that language is more than just a communication tool, but rather a powerful mechanism for shaping social attachment. These findings provide avenues for the practical application of affirmative linguistic interventions in settings such as education, mental health, and diversity management, as well as broadening theoretical insights into the fields of affective psycholinguistics and social identity.
Civic engagement is vital for ensuring all aspects of sustainable development in urban environments. This study examines the role of civic engagement in promoting sustainable urban development. To address the research question regarding the role of civic engagement in urban sustainability and to provide a scientific foundation, a bibliometric analysis and a systematic literature review were conducted. The literature review followed the PRISMA 2020 statement. By analyzing 66 publications, the study assessed the geographical distribution of authors, the most frequently cited authors, publication trends over time, and thematic developments in research on civic engagement in urban sustainability. The results reveal a strong link between civic engagement and several Sustainable Development Goals, identifying the most frequently associated dimensions of urban sustainability. The findings confirm that sustainable urban development must emphasize culture, governance, technology, and education. The study proposes a conceptual model that highlights the importance of civic engagement in achieving sustainable cities.
Honour-based violence is a serious social phenomenon whose institutional attention in Spain is still scarce. Therefore, this research aims to identify and analyse the existing literature within the European context that shows empirical results on social intervention in the field of honourbased violence. The aim is to contribute significant elements to the academic debate that favour the construction of an institutional response in Spain, as established by the Istanbul Convention of the Council of Europe. To this end, we developed an exploratory systematized review based on the PRISMA methodology. The results show how the greatest academic prominence is in the United Kingdom and Sweden, in correspondence with the greater institutional and regulatory attention given in both countries. The analysis of the selected articles allows us to place four thematic categories of interest: assistance and protection for victims, identification of risk and conditions of vulnerability, narratives and institutional discourses and, finally, the detection of honour-based violence in the educational context. The study concludes by pointing out the importance of developing a holistic care model focused on the prevention of the phenomenon and the specific intervention with victims.
This study examines how Technology Readiness, Digital Learning Tools Usage, and Perceived Usefulness impact Student Engagement and Learning Outcomes within engineering and vocational education. The research framework explores 18 hypotheses focusing on both direct and indirect relationships among these variables. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional survey design was meticulously employed, ensuring the thoroughness of the research process. The study population included students enrolled in an engineering faculty for the January-June 2024 semester at one of the state universities in Indonesia. We selected a sample size of 1,781 respondents using stratified random sampling. Data were collected through an online questionnaire using a 5-point Likert scale and analyzed with Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) using SmartPLS. The findings reveal that technology readiness significantly influences the usage of digital learning tools and perceived usefulness, affecting student engagement and learning outcomes. Additionally, using digital learning tools and perceived usefulness mediate the relationships between Technology Readiness, Student Engagement, and Learning Outcomes. This research provides valuable insights into how technology-related factors can enhance learning outcomes in technical and vocational education, offering practical recommendations for improving technology-based learning environments and equipping educators with actionable strategies.
Consumer activism is one of the most impactful movements of our time. It involves citizens participating in changing human living patterns, particularly those related to production and consumption. Although its purpose is worldwide, research on this topic has primarily focused on developed countries. This study provides a global perspective to identify the variables that best explain varying levels of consumer activism. It examines secondary data from a sample of 29,339 consumers across 30 countries, spanning different continents and levels of development. The analysis employs the non-parametric CART (Classification and Regression Trees) technique to reveal that consumers’ level of environmental concern and consumers’ country of origin are the primary variables that best explain the different levels of consumer activism. In contrast, traditional sociodemographic factors such as gender, age, or level of education have no or minimal influence. Organizations must acknowledge and address this global concern, which fuels consumer activism, by demonstrating a clear commitment to environmentally responsible practices. Failing to meet these societal expectations may increase skepticism toward institutions and create a more adverse environment for corporate operations.
This study investigates how female labor participation affects the productivity of Colombian manufacturing firms from 2013 to 2020, using Annual Manufacturing Survey (EAM) and Technological Development and Innovation Survey (EDIT) data. By categorizing firms according to the proportion of female workers, the research compares the total factor productivity (TFP) of female-dominated firms with that male-dominated firms. The findings indicate that women’s labor output elasticity surpasses that of men, leading to higher productivity in female firms, particularly in low and medium-tech SMEs. These results challenge traditional gender biases in labor markets by demonstrating the economic value of women’s participation in the workforce. The evidence supports the implementation of gender-sensitive labor regulations, inclusive educational programs, and leadership development initiatives. Eventually, the study advocates for a more equitable labor environment that not only enhances productivity but also empowers women economically and socially.
The objective of this work was to design a model for the analysis of functional relationships between social support, the structure of personal networks and their influence on the processes of community empowerment in 120 ex-combatants and 120 victims of the Colombian armed conflict. Through a cross-sectional explanatory study, the social networks, levels of social support and community empowerment variables of these actors were evaluated. The results revealed significant differences in the network structures between both groups, particularly in the structural indicators, which showed clear correlations with the levels of social support. This relationship suggests a mediating role of social support in the psychosocial processes of both groups. In addition, another striking aspect was the high levels of community empowerment, sense of community and social participation in both groups, which points to the activation of resilient mechanisms in the post-conflict context. These findings highlight the importance of designing differentiated policies that take advantage of network dynamics to strengthen reintegration and reconciliation processes, offering an analytical model applicable to post-conflict social reconstruction contexts.
Recent studies have reflected on the issue of Intellectual Capital (IC) and the relevance it has in organizations to be competitive and in the excellence of universities, through its effect on Service Quality (SQ). The purpose of this research is to develop a model to analyze the effects of the dimensions of intellectual capital on the quality of service perceived by teachers in a Higher Education Unit (DES). This allows identifying elements that generate a competitive advantage and translating them into an improvement in the quality of service. Different contributions from authors are presented that offer perspectives on IC and SQ models in organizational context, including their analysis, measurement, and implementation the analysis, measurement, and implementation. The research was quantitative with a transectional, descriptive, correlational, and explanatory design. For the purposes of this study, a population of 102 teachers was considered, applying a questionnaire to analyze IC and the perception of the SQ. The results showed statistically significant differences between the IC variables in the SQ, and it was possible to understand the effects by analyzing the relationship between the constructs.
In today's transnational families, the sharing of responsibilities and the organization of care for children or adolescents is central to the lives of those who remain in charge of minors in the country of origin when one or both parents emigrate. This qualitative research gathers and analyses the needs, experiences, and affects of this caregiving population, mainly made up of women, in the context of Western Honduras. Taking an interdisciplinary look at the family challenges of transnationality, our research aims to understand the ways in which care maintains family ties across physical distance. Through a reflexive thematic analysis of interviews and focus groups, we identify and analyze some of the main changes in gender roles, social responsibility, communication, affects and institutional support that occur in transnational families. The mediating role caregivers adopt and the lack of clarity about their responsibilities are central issues in their narratives.
Sexual abuse of minors committed by priests is known in the ecclesial sphere as a "crime against the sixth commandment of the Decalogue with minors" contained in canon 1398 1.1 of the Code of Canon Law (CIC). We start with the question: does canonical procedural law respond to the needs of the victim and the victimizer with the tools it possesses, or should it incorporate others? The methodology followed is based on a review of the theological and legal literature on key categories and concepts in this topic. The reflection is accompanied by semi-structured interviews with victims, perpetrators and members of the institutions, whose references will be implicit due to the rigorous commitment to confidentiality acquired with them and the qualitative analysis process in which they have been involved. The main findings refer to the Restorative Justice model as the one that enables an inclusive and collaborative process and that is present in five provisions of the ICC. The conclusion we reach is the necessary reform of canonical criminal procedural law with a law that includes procedural rights and guarantees for victims and perpetrators; the creation of criminal courts; the incorporation of single sanctions with the possibility of mixed application; and the legal recognition of restorative conferences.
This article analyzes differences in life trajectories in Chilean young people (men and women) entering adulthood (ages 18-29). Using data from the Tenth National Survey on Youth and latent class analysis, we identify seven types of transition to adult life based on socio-demographic variables that the literature establishes as markers of adulthood, such as financial independence and having children and being head of household among others. Our results show that a reduced proportion of young people have all the social markers of adulthood, suggesting that most youngsters do not fully assume adult roles until they reach the fourth decade of their lives. In a similar vein, data show that most youngsters aged 18 to 29 live with their parents and/or are still enrolled in education. We also identify differences by sex, showing that the roles of women as caregivers of children are important in the diversification of young people's life trajectories. Such a transformation in Chile’s socio-demographic structure has a direct impact on key public policy issues, including young people’s access to housing, falling fertility rates and the adequate age of retirement.
En estudios recientes se ha reflexionado sobre el tema de Capital Intelectual (CI) y la relevancia que tiene en las organizaciones para ser competitivas y en la excelencia de las universidades, a través de su efecto en la Calidad del Servicio (CS). This research explores the integration of circular economy practices in SMEs within the machinery and equipment sector in the Basque Country (Spain), aiming to identify opportunities for transitioning towards circular models. Using the Circular Business Scan methodology, 11 industrial SMEs are analyzed, identifying eco-design, eco-innovation, and resource valorization as key elements in their business models. The results demonstrate how circular economy practices enhance competitiveness by creating new business lines, reducing costs, and optimizing processes. Furthermore, the importance of practices such as repair, refurbishment, and recovery of products is highlighted. The study also emphasizes the need to develop both technical and cultural internal capabilities to support the transition to circularity. Additionally, the impact of public policies is highlighted, as they can transform the perception of the circular economy within companies, viewing it as a strategic opportunity to improve competitiveness. This work contributes to the theoretical development of circular economy in industrial SMEs, emphasizing the role of organizational and cultural factors, beyond structural variables. It also provides empirical evidence that can contribute to the formulation of public policies and support programs more tailored to the context.
Since the 1990s, numerous studies have highlighted the fact that women are more vulnerable in disaster of natural origin situations. From that moment to the present, research from a gender perspective has become increasingly complex, examining issues beyond vulnerability. This has led to the emergence of a body of evidence about women in disaster contexts that requires systematic analysis. The objective of this work is to conduct just such a systematic review of the specialised literature on gender inequalities in the context of disasters to allow us to ascertain which aspects have been studied, which geographic areas have received most attention and what knowledge gaps remain. Following the PRISMA methodology, we carried out a search of the Web of Science and Scopus databases, which resulted in 57 articles being incorporated into our analysis. The principal research aspects identified in the studies examined are the differential impact of such disaster events on the health and socioeconomic circumstances of men and women, as well as the reasons behind the unequal gendered impact of disasters. Based on these results, we suggest future lines of research aimed at covering research gaps that exist in the literature.

The participation of women in legislative bodies has increased over recent decades. Despite this, however, women are still underrepresented at all political levels. The aim of this paper is to explore the political commitment and political identity construction of young women in Spain, by analysing the evolution of certain female members of the Spanish political party Podemos. The study followed a qualitative design, using the biographical method, with a series of semi-structured interviews being conducted to chart the evolution of councilwomen from this left-wing political party. The results were analysed on the basis of Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory of human development. The findings indicate that the development of participants’ political commitment was influenced by factors from the microsystem and macrosystem. This piece of research aimed to contribute to the study of gender, youth, identity and political commitment, in order to expand our understanding of the life stories of young women who stand for election to local councils, taking the diversity of their trajectories and experiences into account also.
