This article examines the knowledge of language that guides the training of language and communication teachers in secondary education, based on an analysis of the Teaching Profession Standards published in 2022. The research adopts a qualitative content analysis approach, focusing on the study of 125 descriptors organized into six standards, both disciplinary and didactic. Based on this analysis, 51 key concepts related to language knowledge are identified; however, only the concept of discursive genre appears transversally in most standards, which reflects a fragmented and poorly articulated structure of disciplinary knowledge. The findings allow us to distinguish two main dimensions. The first, conceptual in nature, brings together theoretical frameworks from linguistics, literary theory, pragmatics, discourse studies, and literacy, all aimed at explaining the functioning and uses of language in different modalities. The second dimension, institutional in nature, brings together guidelines specific to the school system-such as the reading plan, linguistic norms, evaluation criteria, and ethical principles in research-which give legitimacy and normative direction to teaching. However, both dimensions appear to be weakly connected, resulting in a vision of language that is segmented by fields of knowledge. In terms of teachers' linguistic awareness, the analysis reveals a strong presence of the domains of the analyst and the pedagogue, while the domain of the language user is poorly represented, particularly in standards relating to language and research. This imbalance highlights an orientation focused on metalinguistic analysis and didactic management, leaving open.
This study examines the role of the new philanthropy in Honduran education, a topic of growing relevance yet lacking empirical research in Central America. Through a qualitative approach and interviews with 12 key actors, it describes the main characteristics and activities of some prominent philanthropic organizations of entrepreneurial origin, , including their origins and spheres of influence, as well as their impact on educational policies and their relationships with governmental and non-governmental actors. Findings indicate that these organizations primarily address the consequences of educational inequity rather than its root causes, and that they produce a form of social engagement distinct from traditional policy advocacy. Finally, the study highlights the need for further analysis of how these non-state emerging actors shape educational policy, offering a foundation for future research.
The purpose of this research was to analyze teaching agency and perceptions of student self-efficacy and expectations of nine teachers who teach mathematics in grades K-5, and who participated in a face-to-face Lesson Study process in Chile. A qualitative research approach will be changed under the interpretative analysis methodology of: a survey -online as pre and post test- on self-efficacy and expectations about students, and a semi-structured group interview focused on teacher reflections at the end of the process. The agency perspective adopted in the analysis (intentionality, anticipation, self-regulation and self-reflection) made it possible to identify how the teachers manifest agency, by getting involved in collaborative teaching practices promoted within the lesson study group, valued by them as an authentic opportunity for professional learning, and supported by the school management team. The use of a convenience sample and the information obtained in the data collection support the need for additional studies to delve into the mechanisms by which professional development programs -such as lesson study-, managed to make teachers progress in self-efficacy, and teaching agency, and begin to value having high expectations of their students.
This study characterises research in mathematics education that addresses the enactive paradigm and enaction, with the aim of constructing a conceptual framework that promotes interdisciplinarity between mathematics education and physical education. To this end, a systematic review was conducted in the Scielo, Scopus and Wos databases, applying inclusion criteria, such as keywords and exclusion criteria defined by the object of study. The articles found were categorised and their links to the subject of physical education were analysed. The results indicate that no research with these keywords is recorded in Scielo. The publications identified are grouped into three categories: (i) approaches that conceive of the enactive as the implementation of professional practices; (ii) studies focused on materials and concrete, pictorial and symbolic learning modes, with an emphasis on the manipulative and representational; (iii) proposals that integrate the body as a constitutive part of learning, challenging the primacy of the representational. The findings show a lack of production under this paradigm and limited interdisciplinary articulation, which raises the need to generate proposals that coordinate practices between mathematics education and physical education.
This study aims to investigate similarities and differences in opinions related to sustainability and in the willingness to adopt sustainable behaviors between university members from Spain, Italy, and Mexico. An observational, cross-sectional, and comparative study was conducted in 2022 and 2023. Atotal of 1,149 participants were included from 12 public universities and higher education institutes. The results indicate that the university community in the three countries demonstrates the ability to recognize and acknowledge the significance of environmental issues. However, few participants were trained or knew the initiatives promoted by their universities. Concerning the comparison of countries, Spanish participants tend to have more knowledge and positive beliefs about sustainability as compared to the others, while Italian and Spanish participants tend to be more concerned about the deleterious effects of non-sustainable behaviors and tend to have more positive attitudes as compared to Mexican participants.
This article provides a critical analysis of reading promotion strategies implemented for neurodivergent students within the context of Chilean inclusive education. It aims to identify effective inclusive pedagogical practices, the potential and limitations of technology, and the persistent structural barriers. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, incorporating a qualitative documentary analysis that synthesizes findings from prior research, theoretical proposals, and empirical evidence gathered in school settings across two Chilean regions. The findings reveal a repertoire of teaching strategies characterized by high adaptability, centered on the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) pedagogical framework, the intensive use of audiovisual and play-based resources, and a strong socio-emotional component. Technology and artificial intelligence emerge as tools with significant potential for personalizing learning and reducing teachers' workload, thereby facilitating and enriching teaching-learning processes. However, their implementation is irregular, sometimes non-existent, and subject to significant ethical, practical, and logistical challenges. These pedagogical efforts are systematically constrained by structural barriers, including curricular rigidity-despite the existence of flexibility frameworks supported by laws and decrees-, the digital divide, teacher overload, and insufficient professional training. The study concludes that a significant gap exists between the potential of the identified pedagogical strategies and the systemic conditions for their implementation. This gap undermines the sustainability of genuinely inclusive reading promotion, which requires educational policies that coherently integrate teacher training, resource allocation, and curricular flexibility. There is a pressing need to move beyond the current model that delegates inclusion to the individual effort and resilience of the teaching staff.
Previous research related to the inclusion of students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in the music class seems to be scarce. In this sense, it is necessary to systematize suitable didactic strategies that promote the participation of this group. The aim of this study was to explore and analyze the didactic approaches implemented by Chilean music teachers to promote the inclusion of elementary school students diagnosed with ASD, integrating these approaches with their initial teacher training. This research, of a qualitative-exploratory nature, was based on in-depth interviews with practicing music teachers in Chile. Initial teacher training is insufficient in terms of inclusion, which would affect the implementation of inclusive practices in music teaching. Similarly, teachers promote practices focused on listening, reflection and musical contextualization, as well as the adaptation of repertoires that promote the development and inclusion of students with ASD. Finally, the need to strengthen initial teacher training in the field of educational inclusion and to continue working on the adaptation of methodologies that promote the participation and meaningful learning of students with ASD in the music class is highlighted.
Teachers beliefs are a relevant factor in the study of pedagogical practices, since they influence their decisions and actions. Although they can be resistant, recent research has shown that they can change through professional development programs. For this reason, this study investigated the changes in teaching beliefs related to the teaching of narrative writing of a group of female teachers who participated in a Professional Learning Community. Through a case study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 9 basic education teachers. In order to analyze their basic beliefs and changes, qualitative longitudinal interviews were conducted in two moments: the initial interviews during the formation of the learning community and the final interviews at the end of their participation. The data collected were analyzed using the thematic analysis technique. The main findings show that teachers achieved changes in beliefs about what to teach, how to teach, and what to evaluate in students by writing narrative texts. Additionally, teachers manifested changes in their self-efficacy beliefs regarding their abilities to carry out the teaching, planning, feedback, and evaluation of narrative text production. Implications and recommendations for future studies are presented.
This document presents the Social Immersion Program, an educational initiative designed to strengthen university social commitment in contexts marked by various forms of vulnerability. It describes and analyses the progress made after one year of implementation, framed within Theory of Change. The program is part of the social formation model promoted by Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City. The results are organized around three key areas: personalized, close and continuous teacher training; co-design of social actions; and the development of social disciplinary skills among students through direct experiences with social realities.
Children's literature represents a valuable pedagogical tool to address issues related to the ecosocial crisis. This study presents the results of a didactic sequence aimed at Early Childhood Education Spanish teachers in initial training. The aim was to work on the ecosocial crisis through children's literature. The students selected and analysed a set of 36 different children's stories, delivering a total of 47 analyses (n = 47). The following aspects of the works submitted by the students were analysed: 1) the formulation of an initial question that would enable science work in the classroom; 2) the actions identified in the story that could contribute to further environmental degradation and environmental improvement; and 3) the relationship established between the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the works studied. The initial questions for developing a classroom investigation focused on living beings and waste. The most identified pro-environmental aspects in the stories are the concepts of interest "Waste collection" and "Recycling". "Consumerism," "Polluting means of transport" and "Proliferation of waste" were the most cited as aspects that contribute to further degradation of the environment. The most selected SDG to work on in relation to the story was SDG 15 "Life on land". In brief, the didactic sequence needs to be improved in terms of the formulation of initial questions by the trainee teachers. Students who attended class frequently were able to identify more environmental degradation actions than the rest of the students.
