In this study, we seek to analyze memory as a narrative device in the novel Pelo fundo da agulha (2006), by Antônio Torres. The analysis investigates how the act of remembering is articulated with the condition of exclusion of the elderly in contemporary capitalist logic. To support the discussion, we draw on the works of Bosi (1994), Dalcastagnè (2001, 2004), Friedman (2002), Ricoeur (2007), Seligmann-Silva (2002), and Bachelard (1989). Initially, we discuss the use of an intrusive omniscient narration, understanding it as a formal internalization of the silencing imposed on the character after his retirement. Subsequently, we analyze the character's memorial journey. As a result, we observe that the novel constructs the act of remembering as a process through which the character reconnects with an identity frayed by traumas, losses, and affective displacements experienced over recent years.
This article proposes a critical reading of the novel O silêncio (1981), by Teolinda Gersão, placing it within the context of contemporary literary production by female authors. The narrative, structured around the relationship between Lídia and Afonso, reveals the interruption of communication between subjects who coexist in dissociated existential spheres, shaking the notions of language, body, and subjectivity. The research adopts a bibliographic and analytical methodology, based on the reflections of Anthony Giddens (2002) and Stuart Hall (2006) on the fragmentation of identity and the displacements of the contemporary subject; of Émile Benveniste (1974), who understands language as a space for the constitution of subjectivity; of Eni Orlandi (1996), regarding the mechanisms of meaning production and discursive silences; and of Zygmunt Bauman (2003). The human condition emerges, therefore, as an experience of incompleteness, driven by desire and the incessant search for meaning.
This study aims to highlight, in the chronicle “Refúgio” (1972) by Clarice Lispector, how forest imagery exchanges sensory politics, whose foundations lie in the non-alienating forces of the self and of others. The article will address Claricean thought based on the idea of looking at others – a privileged space that enables a return to the notion of happiness, and that also shapes in the author’s fiction what is known in Eduardo Viveiros de Castro’s well-known anthropology as perspectivism. To support our thesis, we also engage in dialogue with other works by Clarice Lispector: “Amor”, “A partida do trem”, A paixão segundo G.H., Água viva and A maçã no escuro. In addition, we draw upon news articles published in the Jornal do Brasil in the same issue in which “Refúgio” appeared: texts centered on a militaristic-colonial mindset, in contrast to the perspective of the Brazilian author.
This article explores the appearances of Dionysus in Hilda Hilst’s prose fiction, specifically in her following books: Kadosh (1973) and Com os meus olhos de cão (1986). In other words, it aims to examine how these books rework, in fictional terms, the references to the Greek god and what philosophical meanings they give to the composition of the narratives. If, on the one hand, these works recreate the myth of Dionysus and the triad formed with Ariadne and Theseus, on the other, they shift the current view of God by giving him substantially Dionysian and, by extension, human traits. In this regard, there is a convergence between Dionysus and Jesus —that is, between Greek and Christian symbols. In short, Hilst’s god behaves in the light of Dionysus, embodying a being that is all too human: mad, laughing, and eccentric.
