This article examines the television series Kilos Mortales México as a cultural dispositif where melodrama, biopolitics, and affective regulation of the body converge. Drawing on a qualitative approach based on textual, visual, and discourse analysis of selected episodes, the study explores how the program constructs fatness not only as a medical condition but also as a moral problem subjected to public judgment. Situated within Latin American cultural studies and engaging with theories of melodrama, critical fat studies, and Foucauldian governmentality, the article argues that the series produces a form of televisual moral pedagogy in which bodily transformation functions as visible evidence of merit and discipline. Weight loss thus becomes a mediated ritual that translates biomedical discourses into familiarized ethical obligations, revealing how reality television participates in the cultural regulation of bodies in Latin America.

This work was developed in the context of graduate programs in agronomy in Mexico and the objective is to explore social representations and linguistic ideologies surrounding the languages used in academic literacy practices. It is a mixed-methods study with qualitative emphasis, which explores representations and beliefs to obtain social positions that shape the context of literacy and observe how these positions affect the identities and sense of agency of those who interpret and produce knowledge. The results reveal a scenario of tensions and balances between the role of English as the hegemonic language of science and the greater participation of local languages.

This process is very complex and by studying metaphors usages we could detangled some of these features. This study aims to characterise the adolescents’ metaphoric written discourse through a novel ecological test. 81 Spanish speaking students (Mage 14;1, Range 13;2-15;2; 56.7% girls) participated. The test consists of six questions about the COVID-19 pandemic. The results show a significant difference on metaphors usages in favour of Pandemic over COVID-19 (p < .005). Also, female students show a higher frequency than males (p < .005). The novel experience of pandemic seems to promote greater lexical variety than COVID-19. The results contribute to describing adolescents' discursive uses of written metaphors, weighing the impact of an ecological test, and providing some remarks on the theory of metaphor in discourse.
