The paper presents the areal distribution of dialectally specific lexemes, specifically Croatian lexemes related to 'back', 'spine' and 'shoulder blades' using the method of linguistic cartography. The data collected through field dialectological research have been systematically categorized into lexical types and illustrated on interpretative maps, each accompanied by brief comments on the observed distribution patterns. The second part of the paper provides an analysis of & Ccaron;akavianphraseological units containing these anthroposomatic terms. A semantic-conceptual approach is applied to describe the thematic semantic fields into which the extracted phraseological units fit. The aim of the paper is to explore the productivity of these components in & Ccaron;akavian phraseology, taking into account all expressions that refer to the upper posterior part of the human body. This analysis seeks to contribute to a deeper understanding of dialectal variations and their implications in linguistic research.
The first Croatian phraseological dictionary, compiled in German under the title Verschiedene sprichwörtliche Redensarten was published as a part of the conversational manual accompanying the last published grammar of the Kajkavian literary language, Grammatik der kroatischen Mundart. Its author, Ignac Kristijanović, had accomplished this pioneering undertaking against the contemporary practice, listing the idioms as separate phraseological units in form of a small phraseological dictionary, and not within the dictionary entries of the general dictionary. The paper deals with the macro- and microstructure of Kristijanović’s dictionary within the theoretical framework of the so-called Zagreb School of Phraseology (Menac, Fink-Arsovski). On the macrostructural level, the analysis focuses on the selection principles of the included units and their order in the dictionary. Special attention is paid to the question which material is included, ie. whether the dictionary contains only idioms defined in accordance with today’s phraseological theory and whether the author makes a distinction between idioms and other fixed multi-word expressions (collocations, proverbs). On the microstructural level, it is being examined which form of a idiom is taken as a lemma and how the Kajkavian idioms are translated on the German side of the dictionary (an equivalent German idiom; a German idiom and the explanation of its meaning; the description of the situation in which the idiom is being used). In addition, the question of dealing with synonymous idioms is discussed. In spite of a sporadically non-systematic treatment of structurally similar idioms as dictionary units, and taking into consideration that the Verschiedene sprichwörtliche Redensarten was compiled in the first half of the 19th century, Kristijanović’s dictionary can be viewed as an interesting and valuable contribution to Croatian and Slavic phraseology and phraseography.
Rjecnik obuhvaca temeljni fond animalistickih frazema ovjerenih u jednojezicnim i visejezicnim opcim i frazeoloskim rjecnicima. U Rjecniku je prikupljeno oko 1400 frazema navedenih u približno 1500 natuknica i obrađenih pod 380 frazemskih nadnatuknica.
Emotions are psychological experiences which, in contrast to the real perception, expressing man's relationship with the world around him or subjective state usually accompanied by physiological changes that encourages people to react. That emotions are important for the human race shows and centuries dealing with the psychological phenomenon (Darwin, 1872), which resulted in a variety of theories to this day have not agreed on a list of basic emotions. The event emotion always been associated with a physical reaction which is reflected in the non-verbal communication and that is the basis for the emergence of a large number of phrases. In this study, on the basis of the Croatian corpus of idioms (with special reference to Croatian somatic idioms), we will explore the emotions that occur in Croatian phraseology, i.e., which expressions have emotional motivation. To classify the phrases to express human emotions we started from the Ekman model (1970) which contains six basic, innate and universal human emotions (happiness, sadness, anger, fear, surprise and disgust). The phraseological analysis will be on the one hand based on idioms in which the emotion is a component of idiom (ljut (bijesan) kao ris (pas), srce je stalo komu < od straha>) and on the other hand on the idioms from which we read the emotions on their semantic aspect (srce je sislo (silazi) u pete komu, srce se steze (steglo, stislo) komu).
The fast way of life necessarily has repercussions on all aspects of life, including the language, and then, indirectly, the letter. It is understandable that the authors of various texts in print media are trying to save time and space. Therefore, a significant increase of shortening words is evident. Abbreviations and acronims are caused by shortening words or by omitting some letters. There are two types of shortening words: abbreviations, that arise by taking the first letter or the first few letters of one word, and acronyms, that are formed from multiword lexem by taking initial letters or groups of letters. The paper reexamines the descriptions and definitions of abbreviations and acronims in Croatian ortography manuals and reshearches their word formation, morphology, sintactic rules, taking under consideration their lexical status in dictionaries. The research is based on a corpora of Croatian ortography manuals, Croatian monolingual dictionaries and electronic corpus Croatian Language Repository of Institute of Croatian language and linguistics.
The paper reexamines the definition of idioms taking into consideration some phraseological elements (krenulo je niz brdo (nizbrdo) sto, ici na ruku (naruku) komu) or phraseological units (bogtepitaj, budibogsnama, kvragu). The accepted definition of idioms is redefined to include some >> one-word << idioms (amo-tamo, brze-bolje, danas-sutra, rak-rana, vise-manje, zbrda-zdola). The research is based on a corpus of Croatian manuals of orthography from Partas to Babic and Mogus, Croatian monolingual dictionaries, dictionaries of Croatian idioms and the electronic corpus Croatian Language Repository.
