This study examines medication home delivery incidents reported in community pharmacies before and after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Medication home delivery incidents are defined as medication errors that occur during the transportation of medication to patients outside the pharmacy through shipping, courier, or pharmacy delivery services. The objective was to analyze trends over time and identify contributing factors to inform patient safety improvements. A retrospective analysis was conducted on medication home delivery incidents reported to a national Community Pharmacy Incident Reporting system, Pharmapod (a Think Research company). Reports from 4091 community pharmacies across 10 provinces and 2 Territories were reviewed, covering the period from January 1, 2019, to January 27, 2022. A total of 156 medication home delivery incidents were identified and analyzed. Of the 156 incidents, 55 (35%) occurred pre-COVID and 101 (65%) post-COVID. The most frequent incident type was delivery to the incorrect patient, which decreased from 52.8% to 32.7%. In contrast, privacy breaches increased significantly from 29.2% to 41.6%. Contributing factors include staffing distribution, lack of quality control or independent checks, environmental distraction, operational workflow gaps, and insufficient staff training. Medication home delivery incidents increased following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, revealing emerging safety risks in pharmacy delivery practices. The shift in incident types and contributing factors highlights the need for improved verification protocols, enhanced privacy protections, and dedicated staff training. As home delivery services continue to expand, these findings underscore the importance of system-level interventions to safeguard medication safety in the community pharmacy setting.
This paper proposes a process model for design-oriented machine learning (DS-ML) research in the area of information systems (IS). As DS-ML studies become more prevalent in addressing complex business and societal challenges, there is a need for a standardized framework to conduct, communicate, and evaluate such research. We integrate elements from the design science research (DSR) process model, action design research (ADR), and the Cross Industry Standard Process for Data Mining (CRISP-DM) to develop a comprehensive Machine Learning Process Model (MLPM) tailored for academic DS-ML studies. The MLPM outlines eight key phases, including: problem identification; objective formulation; data understanding; data preparation; design, development, and refinement; evaluation; reflection and learning; and communication. We discuss the unique aspects of each phase in the context of DS-ML research and highlight the iterative nature of the process. By providing this structured approach, we aim to enhance the rigor, transparency, and comparability of DS-ML studies in IS research. This model serves as a step towards establishing consistent standards for DS-ML research, facilitating its integration into mainstream IS literature, and unlocking new opportunities for innovation and impact in the field.
The field of Information Systems continues to change rapidly. The business landscape is being altered by rapid technology development, innovative business models, and a sustained business interest in digital transformation (Marr 2023). This offers an amazing terrain for researchers. We looked back at what was published 20 years ago in JSIS and compared it to current publications. The following pages provide two snapshots of JSIS content during these periods, as well as some reflections on the evolution of research published in JSIS.
As the COVID-19 pandemic unfolded, community pharmacies adapted rapidly to broaden and adjust the services they were providing to patients, while coping with severe pressure on supply chains and constrained social interactions. This study investigates whether these events had an impact on the medication incidents reported by pharmacists. Results indicate that Canadian pharmacies were able to sustain such stress while maintaining comparable safety levels. At the same time, it appears that some risk factors that were either ignored or not meaningful in the past started to be reported, suggesting that community pharmacists are now aware of a larger set of contributing factors that can lead to medication incidents, notably for medication incidents that can lead to harm.
Cette étude utilise les annonces d’emplois disponibles pour comprendre les besoins des organisations en compétences numériques. L’étude souligne que si les compétences de pointe sont parfois requises, elles sont toutefois éclipsées par les compétences de base, qui semblent manquantes et pourtant nécessaires pour un très grand nombre d’emplois. Les résultats soulignent qu’il faut également penser aux compétences requises au-delà de l’expertise liée aux projets de transformation numérique, pour ensuite assurer l’exploitation de ces activités transformées. Les résultats montrent que les compétences numériques les plus en demande sont celles liées aux outils bureautiques, mais il existe également une demande croissante pour des compétences plus spécialisées en matière de technologies de l'information et de communication.
Purpose This study aims to investigate innovation intensity by exploring the roles of internally focused and externally focused information technology (IT) use intensity and innovation culture on innovation intensity and organizational performance. Design/methodology/approach A model exploring the effects of internally and externally focused IT use, plus two key dimensions of innovation culture – collaborative and entrepreneurial – on innovation intensity and organizational performance is tested via a structural equation model using partial least squares with data collected from 395 top executives. Findings The results indicate that intense use of internally and externally focused IT and the collaborative dimension of culture positively affect innovation intensity, which, in turn, increases operational and financial performance. Practical implications Innovation is an important driver of performance, for both internal efficiency and competitiveness. The role of IT in the innovation process is key: it allows information, knowledge and idea sharing. Top managers should make a wide array of IT tools available to increase internal and external information exchanges. They should also develop an organizational context that stimulates innovativeness and promotes collaboration. Originality/value IT helps employees acquire and use the knowledge needed to innovate within and outside organizational boundaries. To be innovative, employees need to work in an organization with a strong innovation culture, a primary determinant of innovation intensity. This study is one of the first to examine the effects of an organization’s innovation culture and its use of IT on innovation intensity and organizational performance. In addition, constructs of innovation intensity and internally and externally focused IT use are developed and tested.
Despite extensive research, the degree to which organizations are successful in creating strategic advantage with ERP systems, and the factors that distinguish successful and unsuccessful ERP implementations are still equivocal. Using a lens of the Resource-Based View of the firm, and following studies that suggest that IT become valuable over time when they interact with other organizational resources and capabilities, we hypothesize that the creation of the intellectual capital (IC) that can lead to strategic advantage is related to the scope of ERP implementation. We examine how ERP implementation can be used to create IC, moderated by the presence of organizational learning capability (OLC). We find clear relationships between OLC and IC, and between ERP implementation scope and IC, and ambiguous moderating effects from OLC.

The extent to which enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems deliver value for organizations has been debated. In this study, we argue that the presence of appropriate organizational resources is essential for capturing the potential of ERP implementation. We investigate the relationship between ERP implementation and two organizational resources, specifically, Intellectual Capital (IC) and Organizational Learning Capability (OLC) to enrich the understanding of the way the value of ERP implementations can be realized. A sample of 226 manufacturing firms in Vietnam was surveyed to test the theoretical model. Structural equation modelling with partial least square method and two approaches for moderation analysis were used to analyze the data. The results indicate that ERP implementation scope has a positive impact on intellectual capital (IC). However, firms need to build a certain level of OLC to utilize ERP implementation for the enhancement of IC.
The paper illustrates how architecture can be used to show the contribution and the use of technology in the legal system. The models created enable the rapid identification of the stakeholders, their objectives, the technologies they use, and their goals. Such understanding helps decision makers ensure that the tools and processes enabled by information technology (IT) are aligned with the goals of the legal system. The preliminary framework developed in the paper shows the feasibility and the contribution of such models on a larger scale.
