A priority in the prevention and correction of immune disorders in athletes is the use of products with high nutrient density, fortified with various nutrients or bioactive compounds, as well as probiotic microorganisms. Probiotics help to maintain the gut microbiota, which is actively involved in the absorption of substances and energy and increases the host immune resistance. Dietary fiber, resistant to digestion in the small intestine, is fully or partially fermented in the large intestine and acts as an essential substrate for the growth and regulation of metabolic activity of normal flora, improves peristalsis and digestion. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the impact of a multi-strain probiotic in combination with dietary fiber on the immune status of basketball athletes during the training period. Material and methods. The study was conducted with the participation of 30 male basketball athletes aged 18 to 24 years. The athletes were randomly divided into 2 groups of 15 people. Athletes in the main group received 1 capsule of multi-strain probiotic (≥1.25×1010 CFU of 10 probiotic strains of bifidobacteria and lactobacilli) and 40 g of corn bran (as a source of dietary fiber) for 23 days. Athletes in the control group received 1 placebo capsule containing maltodextrin and breadcrumbs (40 g/day). Subpopulations of peripheral blood lymphocytes were studied by flow cytometry: T lymphocytes, T helper cells, T cytotoxic lymphocytes, NK cells, NKT cells, B lymphocytes, as well as lymphocytes carrying activation markers and apoptosis marker antigen. The content of cytokines in blood serum [FGF, Eotaxin, G-CSF, GM-CSF, IFN-γ, IL-1ra, IL-1β, IL-2, IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-7, IL-8, IL-9, IL-10, IL-12(p70), IL-13, IL-15, IL-17A, MCP-1, MIP-1α, MIP-1β, PDGF-BB, RANTES, TNF-α, VEGF] was determined using a multiplex immunoassay. Results. Calculation of the absolute number of lymphocytes revealed a tendency (0.05<p<0.10) to a decrease in T helper cells by the end of the observation period in athletes of the main group (497.60±27.67 vs 632.67±65.20 cells/μL), as well as a decrease (p<0.05) in the expression of the CD95/Fas apoptotic marker on peripheral blood lymphocytes of athletes of the main group compared to the beginning of the study (41.53±5.78 vs 69.53±11.79 cells/μL). At the end of the study, a significant increase in IL-9 level was found in the control group [(Me; min-max) = (0.33; 0.21-0.48) vs (0.26; 0.09-0.38) pg/ml; p<0.05; in comparison with the initial indicator]; as well as the tendency (0.05<p<0.10) towards an increase in the levels of IL-15, IL-1ra and RANTES was revealed. In the main group, at the end of the study, the level of G-CSF significantly decreased [(0.36; 0.03-0.95) vs (0.53; 0.14-1.36) pg/ml, p<0.05]. At the end of the observation period, blood serum levels of FGF, G-CSF, IL-13, IL-2 and RANTES in the athletes of the control group exceeded these indicators in the athletes of the main group whereas no significant differences in the studied cytokines were detected between the control and the main groups at the beginning of the study. Conclusion. The results of observation of basketball athletes who consumed a multi-strain probiotic in combination with corn bran (sources of arabinoxylans) in addition to the main diet for 23 days indicate a decrease in the inflammatory process activity and peripheral blood lymphocyte apoptosis, which confirms the effectiveness of probiotics and dietary fiber in sports nutrition.
Introduction. In recent years, a high resistance of H. pylori infection to antibiotics has been recorded both worldwide and in the Russian Federation. This was the basis for introducing diets that increase the sensitivity of H. pylori to antibiotics into eradication schemes.Aim. To evaluate the effect of specialized therapeutic nutrition products LEOVIT GASTRO on the eradication of H. pylori.Materials and methods. Two study groups were formed: the main group – 22 patients and the control group – 20 patients. The groups were randomized from 42 patients suffering from chronic gastritis associated with H. pylori, by random sampling. To assess the tolerability of treatment, in particular, biochemical blood tests were studied.Results. Therapeutic nutrition provides a significant eradication effect against the background of antibiotic therapy. In 92% of patients, a complete absence of H. pylori contamination was detected, and in 8% of patients the degree of contamination was very weak, although initially it was pronounced, while in the control group, a complete absence of H. pylori contamination was detected in 80% of patients. Analysis of the use of specialized food products indicates the possibility of their use in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract associated with H. pylori, as they promote epithelization, healing of the mucosa, reduction and elimination of inflammation, pain, and discomfort in the gastrointestinal tract.Conclusion. Therapeutic dietary nutrition LEOVIT GASTRO is one of the important factors positively influencing the success rate of eradication treatment.
The use of laboratory methods for assessing energy expenditure in athletes requires the availability of appropriate equipment and trained personnel, which is very difficult in the context of everyday sports activities. Therefore, the use of predictive equations that most accurately reflect energy expenditure is of paramount importance for developing dietary and recovery recommendations for athletes. The purpose of this research was to compare the basal metabolic rate (BMR) of highly skilled athletes obtained using predictive equations. Material and methods. The results of the examination of 180 elite athletes, members of the Russian national teams in four sports (shooting, biathlon, bobsleigh, snowboarding), of both sexes (107 men and 73 women aged 18 to 30 years), conducted in the morning, on an empty stomach, 10-12 hours after training, were analyzed during the pre-competition period of sports training. BMR was assessed using the InBody 720 bioimpedance analyzer (Katch-McArdle formula) and calculated using Mifflin-St Jeor, Cunningham, De Lorenzo and Harris-Benedict predictive equations. Lean body mass (LBM) was determined using an InBody 720 bioimpedance analyzer and calculated using Boer, Hume and James predictive equations. Results. When assessing the BMR in athletes, the lowest values were obtained using the Katch-McArdle equation which is built into the InBody 720 analyzer. The highest values for men were obtained using the De Lorenzo equation, they exceeded the calculated values obtained using the Harris-Benedict, Mifflin-St Jeor and Katch-McArdle equations by 3.9-15.5% (p<0.05). In the female groups, the highest BMR values were obtained using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation; they exceeded the data calculated according to the Katch-McArdle, Cunningham and Harris-Benedict equations by 13.8-30.8% (p<0.05). The Cunningham formula, which is used to calculate the BMR based on the LBM, showed significantly higher values compared to the Katch-McArdle formula (p<0.05), the differences were about 180 kcal for the male groups and about 160 kcal for the female groups. In male athletes, the lowest LBM values were obtained using the Hume equation. These values were significantly lower (р<0.05) than the results of LBM calculation using the Boer and James equations (by 5.4-8.3%), as well as when assessing LBM using the InBody 720 analyzer (by 7.1-7.7%). In female sports groups, the lowest LBM values were obtained using the hardware method, while calculations using predictive equations showed higher values (the maximum LBM values using the Boer equation), but the differences were not statistically significant. Conclusion. When using prediction equations to assess the BMR in athletes of different specializations, it should be taken into account that the results may differ by 3.9-15.5% when assessed in male groups and by 13.8-30.8% in female groups. Since the BMR is the starting point for calculating an athlete's needs for nutrients and energy, it is recommended to use equations that take into account body composition, namely the content of LBM, or use a bioimpedance analyzer. BMT can also be calculated using prediction equations if a body composition analyzer is not available, but it should be taken into account that there are differences between the measured and calculated values of this indicator.
Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is an endogenous bioactive compound with essential properties for the normal functioning of the human nervous system. As a potent neurotransmitter, it plays an important role in modulating synaptic transmission by exerting phasic inhibition of neurons. This and other effects of GABA provide the phenomenon of neural tissue plasticity underlying learning, memory, maturation and repair of neural tissue after damage. It also has a wide range of biological actions, including antihypertensive, anti-diabetic, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory. In this regard, GABA is increasingly used in the composition of food for special dietary uses and dietary supplements. However, its adequate intake levels have not yet been assessed and its dietary intake has not been characterized. The aim of the review was to estimate the level of GABA intake under balanced consumption of foods, corresponding to rational norms that meet modern requirements of a healthy diet. Material and methods. The existing literature on the problem in recent years was reviewed using the databases RISC, CyberLeninka, Pubmed, and ResearchGate. Results. Based on the analysis of scientific literature, we evaluated the content of GABA in the average daily diet, compiled on the basis of the rational norms of food consumption that meet modern requirements for healthy nutrition (Order of the Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation dated August 19, 2016. No. 614). The balanced diet can provide about 740 mg of GABA per day, mainly due to vegetables (potatoes - 419 mg/day, beet - 49 mg/day, pumpkin - 41 mg/day), fruits (apple - 15 mg/day, grapes - 3.8 mg/day), as well as low-fat dairy products (92 mg/day). Conclusion. The presented data may be useful in assessing the adequacy of enrichment of foods for special dietary uses and dietary supplements with GABA.
Using analytical technologies it is possible now to measure the entire diversity of molecules even in a small amount of biological samples. Metabolomic technologies simultaneously analyze thousands of low-molecular substances in a single drop of blood. Such analytical performance opens new possibilities for clinical laboratory diagnostics, still relying on the measurement of only a limited number of clinically significant substances. However, there are objective difficulties hampering introduction of metabolomics into clinical practice. The Institute of Biomedical Chemistry (IBMC), consolidating the efforts of leading scientific and medical organizations, has achieved success in this area by developing a clinical blood metabogram (CBM). CBM opens opportunities to obtain overview on the state of the body with the detailed individual metabolic characteristics of the patient. A number of scientific studies have shown that the CBM is an effective tool for monitoring the state of the body, and based on the CBM patterns (signatures), it is possible to diagnose and monitor the treatment of many diseases. Today, the CBM creation determines the current state and prospects of clinical metabolomics in Russia. This article, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of IBMC, is a review of these achievements focused on a discussion of their implementation in clinical practice.
The article, devoted to the 100th anniversary of D.A. Zhdanov'sadmission to the medical faculty of the Voronezh State University, is dedicated to the creativity and scientific research of this outstanding anatomist, the founder of Russian lymphology. Five main periods of the scientist's life are considered - Voronezh, Gorky, Tomsk, Leningrad and Moscow - presented in the context of historical events and legislative changes in the field of education and science that took place in the 20th century in the RSFSR. The article uses previously unpublished archival materials that help to better understand the personality traits of D.A. Zhdanov.
This article presents an analysis of some of the results of the work of the Federal Research Center for Nutrition and Biotechnology (Center) in recent years, highlighting the most important, promising areas of Nutrition Science and Food Hygiene that need further development. The priority area of Center functioning is scientific support for the implementation of the Doctrine of Food Security of the Russian Federation (Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated January 21, 2020 No. 20), Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated July 21, 2020 No. 474 «On the national development goals of the Russian Federation for the period until 2030 «in terms of ensuring an increase in life expectancy and improving the life quality of the population, the Strategy for Improving the Quality of Food Products in the Russian Federation until 2030 (Order of the Government of the Russian Federation dated June 29, 2016 No. 1364-r). The Center coordinates all research on medical nutrition problems in the Russian Federation within the framework of the work of the Problem Commission on Nutrition Hygiene of the Scientific Council of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare, the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Medical Nutrition Problems, the Scientific and Technical Committee of the Comprehensive Scientific Program «Priority Research in the Field of Nutrition of the Population», Profile Commission on Dietetics of the Expert Council in the Field of Health of the Ministry of Healthcare of Russian Federation, ensuring the implementation of their results with the participation of members of the Consortium "Healthcare, Nutrition, Demography". The most important area of the Center's work is scientific and expert support in the field of international and national technical regulation of the production and turnover of foods and raw materials, in particular, the work of the Russian national contact point of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (established by FAO and WHO), as well as the work of the Russian side in the Eurasian Economic Commission regarding the preparation of proposals for technical regulations of the Customs Union in the field of food safety, evaluation of draft technical regulations and amendments and additions to them.
Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world, with competitions held at national, international, continental and world levels, including the Olympic Games. Optimal nutrition plays a key role in sports performance and the implementation of recovery strategies, which determined the relevance of this study. The aim of the research was to analyze the nutrition of basketball players in dynamics to determine the need to introduce specialized or dietary supplement into the diet. Material and methods. The nutrition of 17 male basketball players, students of the Moscow State Academy of Physical Culture and Sport in the pre-competition period was assessed twice in March 2022 [n=17, 20.5±0.5 years, body length - 190.8±1.7 cm, body weight (BW) - 79.4±4.5 kg, body mass index (BMI) - 23.4±0.5 kg/m2] and 2023 (n=17, BW - 87.3±2.5 kg, BMI - 24.0±0.5 kg/m2). The actual nutrition of athletes was studied using the NIAP (Scientific Instrument for Nutrition Analysis) web service developed by the Federal Research Centre for Nutrition, Biotechnology and Food Safety together with Nutrient Planner LLC (2023). Results. The diet structure of the examined basketball players was not optimal. The energy value of the diet in 2023 (Me=3089 kcal/day) was 11% higher compared to 2022 (p=0.068) and approached the recommended level for men of group IV with high physical activity aged 18-29 years. With a high protein level in the calorie value of the diet - 20.1% (2023) and 18.7% (2022), the proportion of fats and carbohydrates was suboptimal both in the first study (40.5 and 39.9%) and in the repeated one (37.8 and 40.9%). The specific intake of dietary fiber (DF) did not reach the level of 10 g/1000 kcal per day, and in absolute values, only in 2023 median exceeded 20 g/day (23.2 [15.8; 26.7] g/day). Conclusion. Excessive consumption of fats and saturated fatty acids was revealed, which can negatively affect the energy supply of high-intensity activities of athletes in team sports and performance. To optimize the diet in terms of the ratio of carbohydrate and fat components and the DF content, athletes were offered a specialized food of the corresponding focus (with high DF level). Systematic education of athletes on optimal nutrition is necessary.
This review contains literature data covering the structure and functions of the subfornical organ (SFO). The SFO belongs to the sensory group of formations located around the III and IV ventricles and constituting the circumventricular system of the brain. Despite its small size, the SFO has four departments, which differ from each other in the features of cyto-, myelo-, and angioarchitectonics. The structural features of the blood-brain barrier in the SFO allow many substances to directly contact with its cellular elements. A distinctive feature of the SFO is that circulating substances can stay in the capillaries for an unusually long time. Perivascular spaces, located around type I and III capillaries, penetrate the organ like thin channels and provide the substances in the interstitial fluid with a large surface area for interacting with the receptor field. A characteristic feature of the SFO is tanycytes, whose intertwining processes extend throughout the organ and form multiple contacts with neurons and the vascular bed. SFO is an important link in the regulation of homeostasis. It takes part in the regulation of blood pressure and drinking behavior, controls the water and electrolyte balance and energy metabolism, and also acts as an important link in neuro-immune interactions. Such structural and functional features of the SFO make it a promising object of neurobiological research.
The article is devoted to the 480th anniversary of the publication of Andreas Vesalius’s “De humani corporis fabrica libri septem” and considers its biographical, historical, cultural contexts. The authors compare the results of Andreas Vesalius' investigation to other anatomical studies in the late Middle Ages and the Renaissance, presenting Vesalius’s work as the creation of a new European scientific approach in anatomy, identical to a research experiment in physics. It is demonstrated the significance of the dissection method in the form proposed by Andreas Vesalius for modern anatomy and medicine. The principal work of Andreas Vesalius is considered as the most important source of anatomical vocabulary, which is the prototype of international anatomical nomenclature. The biographical and historical issues presented by the authors allow modern readers to reveal the meanings of Andreus Vesalius’s paper, the original meaning of which was lost with all the time that has passed. The results of modern studies investigating the work of the great Flemish anatomist, little known to the Russian reader, are presented.
The article is devoted to the life, medical and scientific work of Academician of the Academy of Medical Sciences of the USSR Ippolit Vasilievich Davydovsky, a pathologist, an outstanding teacher and organizer of healthcare, the founder of the national philosophy of medicine. In the work of this scientist, four historical periods are distinguished, differing in their content, influence on health care and medical thinking. The article was based on previously unpublished documents kept in the personal fund of I.V. Davydovsky, located in the Scientific Archive of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences, which open up new facets of the scientist's personality, his relationship to pathological anatomy and the methodology of medical knowledge. The authors come to the conclusion that, despite the loss of some achievements of the Soviet model of organizing the provision of medical care associated with the name of Academician Davydovsky, his contribution to science and practical healthcare remains relevant for choosing the direction for the development of domestic medicine.
Purpose: estimate actual diet of college basketball players, including frequency of consumption of specialty foods.Materials and methods: 25 male students sports university basketball were examined (average age 20.9 ± 1.8 years). Actual nutrition was studied by the frequency method using the computer program “Analysis of Human Nutritional Status”. Data on the frequency and quantity of consumed specialized food products for the nutrition of athletes (SFP) and biologically active food additives were studied using a questionnaire.Results: the daily energy value of the diet averaged 3205 ± 520 kcal/day, 135 ± 36 g of protein per day, 155 ± 25 g/day of fats and 317 ± 72 g/day of carbohydrates; unoptimal diet structure was revealed — fats predominate from the daily energy value, carbohydrate and protein intake was low. There is a discrepancy between daily food intake (low consumption of fruits, vegetables, bread, fish) and the Order of the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation dated October 30, 2015 No. 999 “On requirements approval for ensuring the sports reserves training for sports teams of the Russian Federation” requirements. Basic diet revealed a high average daily content of iron (19 ± 6 mg/day), vitamins A (1057 ± 729 µg ret. equiv) and C (153 ± 101 mg/day). Data on the frequency of taking SPPs and dietary supplements are provided. At the same time, content of some nutrients in them exceeded the upper permissible consumption levels.Conclusion: it is advisable to regularly increase the awareness of coaches and athletes about the rational nutrition principles through the introduction of educational programs into sports practice.
Standardization of methods for assessing body composition is an extremely relevant topic, especially when analyzing the long-term training of athletes. Evaluation of the results of measuring body composition using the method of classical anthropometry in comparison with the hardware method of bioimpedanceometry is relevant, because Measurement results from these techniques often vary, and it is important for practitioners and trainers to be aware of these differences.The aim of the study was to ompare the results of assessing the body composition of basketball players obtained using the calculation and two hardware methods.Materials and methods. The survey involved 25 students-basketball players (age 20.3±1.7 years). Body composition was assessed by three methods: calculation – according to the formulas of J. Mateyk, hardware – using the body composition analyzer ABC‑01 (LLC STC «MEDASS», Russia), hardware – using the basic multi-frequency portable body composition analyzer ACCUNIQ BC310 (SELVAS Healthcare Inc., Daejeon, South Korea). Statistica software was used for statistical calculations and plotting. The significance of differences between independent groups was determined using the nonparametric Mann – Whitney test (U-test). Distribution normality was assessed using the Shapiro – Wilk test. The nonparametric Wilcoxon test was used to compare dependent samples. Correlation analysis – according to Bland – Altman.Results and discussion. The calculation method based on anthropometry gives significantly greater results in terms of skeletal muscle mass; in terms of basal metabolism, ACCUNIQ gives the highest values, Medass – the smallest, anthropometry method – the average between the results obtained by two hardware methods. Correlation analysis showed that when determining lean body mass, the closest results are obtained when measured using two analyzers MEDAS and ACCUNIQ (r=0.938, p<0.05 5); ANTRA and ACCUNIQ give a lower correlation (r=0.819, p<0.05), the lowest correlation is shown between the ANTRA method and MEDASS (r=0.715, p<0.05). When determining body fat mass, the methods give the least correlations than when determining lean body mass: the closest results are obtained when measured using two analyzers – MEDASS and ACCUNIQ (r=0.677; p<0.05)), ANTRA and ACCUNIQ give a lower correlation (r=0.598; p<0.05) (moreover, the correlation is not significant).Conclusion. Determination of the body composition of athletes is possible by any of the methods (caliperometry, bioimpedancemetry), given that the same method will be used for dynamic studies.
The aim of the study was to analyse histologically and morphometrically the peribiliary glands of the extrahepatic biliary tract in the elderly and long-living people. Material and methods . The study included wholemounts of the gallbladder, the cystic, hepatic and common bile ducts obtained from the corpses of both sexes aged 22 to 35 years (n=16) and older than 76 years (n=39). Macro-microscopy was used to evaluate the number, localization, sizes and shape of the glands, the area of the lumen of the excretory duct orifices, the area of the initial section of the glands, the number of initial (terminal) parts and the proportion of epithelial parenchyma in their composition. Results . With age, there is a decreased proportion of "complexly branched" glands with a significant number of initial sections and excretory ducts of the 1st order. The proportion of "simple" glands, with one initial section increases to 70.2–78.3% in the senile age, while it is 41.0–52.1% in people of mature age. In long-living people, there is an increased number (up to 70–85%) of glands with ampullar extensions of the common excretory duct. The total number, density of gland localization, the length and width of the initial section of the peribiliary glands tend to decrease from the period of mature age to longevity. In senile age, the size and quantitative parameters of the glands stabilize, and do not modify in long-living people. Conclusion . The results of the morphological analysis demonstrate that there is no progression of involutive changes in the peribiliary glands of the extrahepatic biliary tract from senile age to the period of longevity. In some cases, long-living individuals manifest compensatory-adaptive reactions, such as an increased severity of the epithelial parenchymal component in the composition of the glands and an increased proportion of glands with an ampullar expansion of the common excretory duct.
The biomass of Arthrospira platensis cyanobacteria is a source of bioactive compounds such as chlorophylls, carotenoids, and, particularly, phycobiliproteins: C-phycocyanin and allophycocyanin. The wide range of biological activity shown by extracts with a high content of phycocyanins determines the prospects for their use as dietary supplements and ingredients of special foods. For food purposes, the degree of purity of phycocyanin concentrates, determined by the ratio of optical densities of their aqueous solutions at two wavelengths, namely D620/D280, must be greater than 0.7. Most methods for obtaining phycocyanin concentrates include laborious steps of fractional ammonium sulphate precipitation of protein from A. platensis biomass extracts followed by removal of salts solution. The use of membrane technology, specifically microfiltration, makes it possible to significantly intensify and simplify the process of obtaining phycocyanin concentrates. The aim of this research was to modify the method for obtaining a high-purity A. platensis phycocyanin concentrate by replacing the stage of ammonium sulfate precipitation of the protein by ultrafiltration of the extract followed by microfiltration. Material and methods. A sample of dry A. platensis biomass was used as a feedstock. Extraction of A. platensis biomass was carried out at a temperature of +40 °C for 3 h, the resulting suspension was centrifuged, and the supernatant was separated from the sediment. The obtained extract was subjected to ultrafiltration (membrane with a pore diameter of 30 kDa) followed by removal of the permeate containing low molecular weight impurities. The retentate was subjected to microfiltration (membrane with a pore size of 0.2 μm), concentrated by reverse osmosis and freeze-dried. Results. The content of C-phycocyanin and allophycocyanin in the dry concentrate was 42.0±1.3 and 7.0±0.3%, respectively, the degree of purity was 1.98. Conclusion. The scheme for obtaining A. platensis phycocyanin concentrate has been modified. A concentrate was obtained with a high degree of purity, allowing its use in food.
Chronic inflammation in adipose tissue, peripheral organs and some compartments of the brain are among pathogenetic factors in obesity. The use of bioactive compounds with anti-inflammatory and hypolipidemic activity in the composition of specialized products and dietary supplements is considered as an approach in the diet therapy of obesity and related conditions. The aim of the research was to study the effect of a complex supplement containing resveratrol and L-carnitine (RC supplement) on the immunological parameters of inflammation (the profile of cytokines and regulatory proteins) in rats fed a balanced or hypercaloric diet. Material and methods. Male Wistar rats received for 63 days a standard balanced diet (SD) or a high-carbohydrate-high-fat diet (HFCD) with an excess of total fat and fructose, as well as RC supplement at a low (25 mg/kg body weight as Res and 300 mg/kg body weight as L-Car) or high (50 and 600 mg/kg body weight, respectively) dose. The content of leptin, ghrelin, cytokines and chemokines in blood serum (BS), lysates of white adipose tissue (WAT) and spleen, amygdala and hippocampus of the brain, the content of regulatory proteins Akt, IRS-1, GCK-3a/b, p70/S6, BAD, m-TOR, PTEN and S6 ribosomal protein in the amygdala and hippocampus have been studied the by multiplex immunoassay. Results. In rats that consumed RC as part of SD, there was a decrease in the levels of leptin and its ratio with ghrelin, the levels of proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1α, IL-12p40 and IL-12p70, IFN-γ) in BS and WAT, chemokines (MCP-1, M-CSF, MIP-2) in WAT. Some of these effects were more pronounced at a low dose of RC than at a large dose, and some of them were also canceled or changed in direction in animals treated with HFCD. In the amygdala, RC consumption increased the content of both pro- and antiinflammatory cytokines; the most significant was the increase in IL-7 levels in animals fed SD, and RANTES in animals fed HFCD. In the hippocampus of rats, the RC intake had an insignificant effect on the levels of cytokines and chemokines. Akt-1 kinase and the substrate of the insulin receptor IRS-1 were the main targets of RC action in the regions of the brain. Conclusion. The complex dietary supplement RC exerted a hypoleptinemic effect, revealed certain anti-inflammatory effects and modulated a number of the brain factors influencing behavioral responses in obesity. However, the synergistic effect of resveratrol and L-carnitine in the composition of the supplement wasn't not observed, and the effectiveness of its action decreased in conditions of a hypercaloric diet consumption.
The aim of research was to study the distribution of mast cell populations in the lungs and spleen depending on their expression of proteases in normal conditions and different periods of simulated hypoxic hypoxia. Material and methods . Hypoxic hypoxia was modeled on 87 outbred male rats using 200 liter chambers. The animals were under experimental conditions for four months. Rats were removed from the experiment after 30, 60, 90 and 120 days. After the animals were removed from the experiment, the lungs and the spleen were removed and fixed in 10% neutral buffer solution of Labiko formalin. Lung and spleen preparations were stained with hematoxylin and eosin and according to Van Gieson. For immunohistochemical studies, a panel of monoclonal antibodies was used: Anti-Mast Cell Tryptase antibody, Anti-Mast Cell Chymase antibody. Results . When modeling hypoxia in the structures of the lungs at the terms of 30 and 60 days, the content of predominantly tryptase-positive cells increased, and by the 90th and 120th days, the content of chymase-positive cells increased. By the end of the experimental exposure, the number of tryptase-positive cells increased by 3 times, and chymase-positive – by 7,7 times compared with the control. As the duration of the experiment increased, the presence of tryptase-positive cells in the spleen increased by 3,5 times, chymase-positive cells – by 7 times in the structures of the red and white pulp. Conclusion . During the formation of chronic hypoxic hypoxia in the body of laboratory animals, there is a redistribution of mast cells expressing tryptase and chymase. The most significant increase in the number of chymase-positive mast cells was noted both in the lungs and in the spleen.
The article describes the main stages of the life path and scientific creativity of Doctor of Medical Sciences, professor, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences Boris Aleksandrovich Nikityuk (1933–1998), who made a significant contribution to the development of domestic human anatomy. Scientific interests of B.A. Nikityuk were diverse. He conducted research in the field of developmental and environmental anatomy, sports morphology, medical and biological anthropology. His studies in the field of developmental genetics are widely known. Boris Aleksandrovich was one of the most successful developers of the acceleration doctrine, formulated its laws, developed methods and approaches for determining biological age. He was the first to formulate the basic laws of growth and development. The contribution of B.A. Nikityuk is generally recognized in the development of constitutional science. He formulated ideas about the local constitution, the reactivity of structures in connection with the characteristics of growth and development. The result of the valiant work of Professor B.A. Nikityuk became the founder of a scientific school of anatomists. Boris Alexandrovich's students continue to develop his scientific ideas up to this day.
A number of studies have shown the effectiveness of meat irradiation at doses of 2-6 kGy to extend its shelf life when stored in vacuum packaging. It is known that the radiation treatment of meat can lead to a decrease in the content of natural antioxidants. Furthermore, the intensity of oxidative processes is significantly higher in meat products with a high fat content (20% or more). At the same time, the optimal modes of minced meat irradiation, which make it possible to ensure safety for the population and to increase the shelf life, have not yet been established. The purpose of the research was to study the effect of various doses of ionizing radiation on the content of aerobic, facultative anaerobic microorganisms and radiolysis products, and the activity of antioxidant enzymes in chilled minced meat during storage. Material and methods. The object of the study was minced meat, consisting of beef and pork (1 : 1) with 20% mass fraction of fat. The experimental samples were irradiated on an electron accelerator UELR-10-15-S-60-1 with an electron energy of 5-10 MeV at doses of 2, 2.5 and 3 kGy. The control sample of minced meat was not subjected to radiation treatment. Determination of the total count of mesophilic aerobic and facultative anaerobic microorganisms (QMAFAnM) (CFU/kg) in control and experimental samples was determined on days 0, 7, 15 and 22. Methods for evaluating antioxidant activity included spectrophotometric determining the content of active radiolysis products that react with 2-thiobarbituric acid (TBA-AP) according to the Brajet method, total antioxidant capacity (TAOC) and activity of antioxidant enzymes in minced meat: superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx). Results. Radiation treatment of minced meat at a dose of 2.0 kGy provided a normalized level of QMAFAnM in chilled minced meat for 22 days. It has been established that the treatment of minced meat with ionizing radiation in doses of 2.0-3.0 kGy leads to a dose-dependent decrease in its TAOC and the activity of antioxidant enzymes (SOD, CAT, GPx), as well as to an increase in TBA-AP content (р<0,05). Conclusion. The dose of ionizing radiation of 2.0 kGy helps to maintain the microbiological safety of minced meat for 22 days in terms of QMAFAnM with minimal changes in TAOC values, SOD, CAT and GPx activity and TBA-AP content.
Currently, in sports medicine, much attention is paid to the prevention and treatment of delayed muscle soreness syndrome (DOMS), which occurs several hours or days after unusual or intense physical activity, as well as the state of athlete overtraining. One of the main pathogenetic factors in the development of this syndrome is myocyte ultrastructural damage with apoptosis activation. Therefore, using natural antioxidants in sports nutrition for the relief of this pathology is of particular relevance. The aim of the study was to study the effect of an anthocyanin-enriched diet on apoptosis of gastrocnemius muscle myocytes of rats after intense exercise. Material and methods. The experiment was carried out for 4 weeks on 4 groups of male Wistar rats (12 animals in each, initial body weight ~300 g). Animals were divided into groups of rats (groups 1 and 2), whose motor activity was limited by standard conditions for keeping animals in vivarium, and groups of physically active rats (groups 3 and 4), which received additional physical activity - treadmill training. Before the end of the experiment, the animals of groups 3 and 4 were given debilitating (until the rats refused to continue the exercise) physical activity on a treadmill. Rats of all four groups received a standard semi-synthetic diet, water ad libitum. Animals in groups 2 and 4 were additionally given blueberry and blackcurrant extract (30% anthocyanins) as part of the diet at a daily dose of 15 mg anthocyanins/kg body weight. The intensity of apoptosis of gastrocnemius muscle myocytes was studied by flow cytometry. Cells were stained with fluorochrome-conjugated annexin V and vital dye 7-aminoactinomycin. The results are presented as the percentage of intact cells and cells at different stages of apoptosis per 100 000 counted objects in each sample. Results. The enrichment of the diet of control group rats with blueberry and black currant extract did not have a significant effect on the relative content of intact cells and the studied parameters of apoptosis of gastrocnemius muscle myocytes of rats of the 2nd group. Intense physical activity in rats of the 3rd group led to a statistically significant (p<0.05) decrease in the relative content of intact (live) cells compared with this indicator in rats of other groups (85.32±1.44 vs 90.87±0.66% - in the 1st group; 90.16±0.79% - in the 2nd group; 89.01±0.81% - in the 4th group, р<0.05). After intense physical activity in rats of the 3rd group, activation of apoptosis of gastrocnemius muscle myocytes was found, as evidenced by an increase in the relative content of objects in apoptosis compared with other groups (11.61±1.45 vs 7.88±0.60% - in the 1st group, р<0.05; 8.01±0.70% - in the 2nd group, p<0.10; 7.93±0.59% - in the 4th group р<0.05). Enrichment of the diet of exercise rats with blueberry and blackcurrant extract (4th group) had a protective effect on the intensity of the apoptosis process, the studied parameters did not differ significantly from those in rats of the control and the 2nd groups. Conclusion. The results of the study indicate the activation of the process of apoptosis of gastrocnemius muscle myocytes of rats after intense physical activity. Enrichment of rats' diet with anthocyanins from blueberry and black currant extracts ensures the restoration of the studied apoptosis parameters to the level of control group rats. In the control group of rats with normal physical activity, the addition of anthocyanins to the diet does not have a significant effect on the physiological process of apoptosis of gastrocnemius muscle myocytes. In this way, an evidence base for the effectiveness of the use of biologically active substances - anthocyanins - in sports nutrition for the restoration of skeletal muscles has been obtained.
