Mungkus fish is a culturally and economically important fish in Bengkulu. However, the accurate species name of the existing Mungkus fish in Bengkulu province remains unclear. Our research aimed to accurately identify the species of Mungkus fish by using a molecular approach. The DNA Barcoding method, using the Cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 (COI) gene sequence, was employed for species identification and phylogenetic analysis. The DNA of 12 fin tissue samples, chosen from eight main rivers, was extracted using the Phenol-Chloroform method. The target DNA was amplified using the paired primers Fish-BCL and Fish-BCH before sequencing. The sequence data were then analyzed by using bioinformatic tools. This study successfully identifies three species of Mungkus fish in Bengkulu (Sicyopterus lagochepalus, Sicyopterus squamossissimus, and Sicyopterus cynocephalus), with similarity to GenBank data> 99.00%. ASAP analysis supports the species delimitation, which clustered into three species. Bayesian Inference phylogenetic analysis clearly resolved all samples into three distinct clades. The analysis also unveiled clear haplotype divergence among Sicyopterus species, indicating both shared and species-specific genetic lineages. Close genetic affinity was observed among S. lagocephalus populations from Bengkulu, Maluku, and the Philippines, whereas S. cynocephalus showed regional differentiation from Gorontalo populations. These findings provide taxonomic clarity that is fundamental for future sustainable management and conservation planning of Mungkus fisheries in Bengkulu Province.
The aquatic environment is crucial for fish survival because fish require appropriate aquatic environment. Artisanal gold mining generates heavy metal waste in Lebong Regency, polluting the river flows. Heavy metals released into the aquatic environment generate water pollution problems due to their toxicity, persistence, and bio-accumulation in organism. The aim of this study was to investigate the histology of fish gill organs in the river contamined by heavy metals. Fish samples were taken by purposive sampling. Histological sections using the paraffin method and hematoxylin-eosin staining. The result of mercury detected in water is 0.01mg/L, exceeded maximum limit in river based on class II water quality standard (0.002mg/L). Histopathology of gills H. nemurus and T. Tricopterus fish (HAI scores <20) showed slight alterations such as epithelial lifting, secondary lamella fusion, and hyperplasia. Rasbora sp., M.circumcinctus, and O.niloticus gills fish (HAI scores>100) had severe irreversible damage, marked by telangiectasis at the tips of the secondary lamella. This is due to the presence of heavy metal contaminants in the water, that causes histopathological damage to fish gills. Parasitic infections were also discovered in some fish gills, impairing their function for respiratory and excretory organs which can be caused by low water quality.
Background: Liver has many functions in the metabolic system and detoxification of substances that are harmful to the body. Chemical intoxication due to drug use might induce liver damage. A histology examination can indicate liver damage induced by a chemical substance, as well as the condition of tissue structure and function associated with the disease. This study aims to investigate the hepatoprotective effect of mix infusion of hibiscus flowers and soursop leaves on the liver histological structure in mice induced by hyperuricemia using potassium oxonate. Methodology: This study used an experimental group design, involving 8-week-old mice. The groups were divided as follows: A1 (control), A2 (Potassium oxonate), A3 (allopurinol), A4 (infusion 25 %), A5 (infusion 35 %), and A6 (infusion 45 %). Histological image was examined using an optilab with five fields of view. Findings: The study's revealed that the control group had a normal liver histology structure, whereas the hyperuricemia treatment group experienced significant liver damage, including congestion and leukocyte infiltration, and the allopurinol treatment group experienced significant damage, including leukocyte infiltration and necrosis. Therapy with a combined infusion of hibiscus flowers and soursop leaves shown a hepatoprotective effect. Based on histological analysis, the 25 % concentration provided the greatest hepatoprotective impact when compared to other infusion concentration. Mix infusion of hibiscus flowers and soursop leaves demonstrates heproprotective activity in hyperuricemia mice induced by potassium oxonate. Contribution: This study demonstrates that the mix infusion of hibiscus flowers and soursop leaves has the potential to be a hepatoprotective agent, but further research is needed regarding long-term effects

The subterranean termite Coptotermes curvignathus is a type of insect that damages wood until it is porous and destroyed. Until now, termites are chemically controlled but negatively impact the environment, so bioinsecticides such as from Usnea barbata lichen are needed. This study aims to determine the bioactivity of U extract. Barbata as a bioinsecticide for subterranean termites C. curvignathus. The experiment used Completely Randomizd Design with 7 treatments (concentrations of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, and Termicon) and 3 replicates. The extract was prepared from 300 g of U barbata powder, macerated in 7 days in 96% ethanol in a ratio of 1:10 (300 g/3 L). Mortality and feed weight loss were observed for 7 days. The extracts contained alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, steroids, saponins, and tannins. The phytochemicals were analyzed descriptively, and a lethal concentration value of 50% (LC50) was determined by probit analysis. Data on termite mortality percentage and feed loss percentage were analyzed using ANOVA at a 5% confidence level. If the Fcalct > Ftable, Duncan's further test was carried out. The results showed that the extract contained alkaloids, steroids, tannins, and saponins. The mortality of subterranean termites was indicated by an LC value of 50-72 hours of 19.32%. Statistically, U. barbata extract affected mortality but did not differ significantly in the feed weight loss of C. curvignathus subterranean termites. Keywords: bioactivity, Coptotermes curvignathus, insecticide, Usnea barbata

Kata Kunci: Cheiloscopy, Down syndrome, Pola sidik bibir ABSTRACT An excess of chromosomal number 21 (Trisomy) causes the autosomal genetic disease known as down syndrome. One of the characteristics of people with down syndrome is that their lips have a gap and are rather thick, and their mouths are always open. This study's objective was to examine the characteristics of down syndrome students' lip print patterns. The study was carried out at multiple schools in Bengkulu City between December 2021 and February 2022 using interviews and direct data collecting on Down syndrome pupils with inclusion requirements. The classification of Suzuki and Tsuchihashi is used to identify lip print patterns. The Chi-square test was used to examine the data in SPSS version 22. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test in the SPSS version 22. The findings indicated that students with Down syndrome had type I and type II lip print patterns, with type I predominating. Male students had a type I lip print pattern prevalence of 66.7%, compared to 57.1% for female students. 33.3% of male students have type II lip print patterns, compared to 42.9% of female students. According to the Chi-square analysis, there is no correlation between lip print patterns, the ratio of lip thickness to lip length, and speaking, walking, pen grasping, and writing abilities in down syndrome from various schools in Bengkulu city. Since the dominating lip print pattern of types I and II observed in down syndrome students is also frequently shown in non-down syndrome individuals, this pattern cannot be used to predict specific motor skills in down syndrome students. Allopurinol is used to reduce total uric acid levels in the body into oxypurinol which can inhibit xanthine oxidase. Allopurinol inhibits the precursors of uric acid formation, xanthine, and hypoxanthine. However, consumption of the drugs can cause side effects on the liver. The aim of the research was to determine the effect of allopurinol induction on the liver histopathology of male mice (Mus musculus) DDY strain. The method used in this research was an experimental design used post-test only that was divided into 4 groups of 4 mice per group. The control group (P0) was given 0.5% Na-CMC, and groups I, II, and III (P1, P2, and P3) were induced by allopurinol at 10 mg/kg BW, 20 mg/kg BW, and 30 mg/kg BW for 14 days. Allopurinol induction was performed by oral gavage. The results of the research showed that treatment with allopurinol caused changes in the mice’s body weight, liver index, liver morphology, and histological structure of the liver tissue, including necrosis, steatosis, leukocyte infiltration, binuclear hepatocytes, hepatocyte swelling, congestion, sinusoid dilatation, and hemorrhage. The level of liver damage increased in line with the dose used. This research indicated that the higher the allopurinol level, the higher the level of alteration in the liver section structure. Long-term use of allopurinol can cause damage to the structure of mice liver (liver toxicity).

Uric acid levels in the blood can be lowered by taking anti-hyperuricemic drugs, but long-term use can have serious effects on the body. Therefore, we need medicines made from natural ingredients that have a compound that can reduce uric acid levels with a low effect. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of hibiscus flower infusion on uric acid levels. The research method is experimental research with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). Mice were divided into 6 treatment groups, the negative control group (normal) A0 was given 0.5% Na-CMC, A1 was hyperuricemia control (induction of potassium oxonate 250mg/kgBW and chicken liver juice), A2-A5 was treated with hyperuricemia. The treatment group A2 was given allopurinol 10mg/kgBW, A3-A5 was given hibiscus flower infusion at a dose of 20%, 30%, and 40%, respectively. The results showed that hibiscus flower infusion at doses of 20%, 30%, and 40% was able to reduce blood uric acid levels in male white mice induced by potassium oxonate and chicken liver juice. Hibiscus flower infusion has the potential to reduce uric acid levels in mice optimally at a dose of 20%, which is 80.8% of hyperuricemia control.
