Acne vulgaris is a common inflammatory skin disorder largely associated with the proliferation of Propionibacterium acnes. Although antibiotics are widely used for acne treatment, the increasing incidence of antibiotic resistance necessitates the exploration of effective natural alternatives. Mangrove plants are known to contain diverse bioactive compounds with antimicrobial potential. This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of Natural Deep Eutectic Solvent (NADES) extracts derived from young and old leaves of Avicennia marina against P. acnes. Extraction was conducted using citric acid–glucose-based NADES with different molar ratios: P1 (1:1), P2 (2:1), P3 (3:1), and P4 (4:1), to assess the effect of solvent composition on antibacterial performance. Antibacterial activity was determined using inhibition zone assays, while molecular docking analysis was performed to investigate interactions between extracted metabolites and P. acnes target proteins. The results showed that both young and old leaf extracts exhibited significant antibacterial activity, strongly influenced by the NADES formulation. Young leaf extracts produced the largest inhibition zone with the P4 formulation (24.51±0.75 mm) and the smallest with P1 (21.63±0.67 mm). Similarly, old leaf extracts showed maximum inhibition in P4 (37.38±4.34 mm) and minimum inhibition in P1 (22.62±1.40 mm). Increasing the proportion of citric acid enhanced the extraction of bioactive compounds responsible for antibacterial activity. Molecular docking confirmed strong binding affinities between key metabolites and P. acnes target proteins, supporting the experimental findings. Thus, NADES extracts of A. marina leaves, particularly those prepared using a 4:1 citric acid–glucose ratio, demonstrate strong potential as natural antibacterial agents for acne prevention and treatment.
Abstract The anticipated increase in tilapia production is expected to result in a corresponding increase in fish waste, including components such as heads, skin, fins, tails, bones, viscera, and scales. If not adequately managed, this waste can pose significant environmental and health challenges. By 2020, hypertension is expected to become one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Therefore, there is a pressing need for technological solutions that can repurpose waste and address blood pressure concerns. One promising approach for utilizing fish waste is hydrolysis technology, which produces hydrolysate products with enhanced nutritional and functional properties, such as peptides. This study aimed to assess the potential of tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) viscera hydrolysate peptides as nutraceutical antihypertensive agents using in silico methods. LCHR-MS analysis identified eight peptides: Gly-Leu (GL), Lys-Pro (KP), Val-Tyr (VY), Asp-Trp (NW), Gly-Pro (GP), Z-Leu-OH, Leu-Leu (LL), and Leucyl-leucyl-norleucine (LLX). These peptides demonstrated good bioavailability and were considered safe for consumption, with potential as antihypertensive and anti-inflammatory nutraceuticals, as determined through in silico analysis (SwissAdme, Pro Tox 3, Biopep). Moreover, molecular docking simulations indicated that the antihypertensive potential of the five peptides, ranked from highest to lowest, was as follows: Val-Tyr (VY), leucyl-leucyl-norleucine (LLX), Captopril, Lys-Pro (KP), Gly-Leu (GL), and Gly-Pro (GP).

Mitra berhasil membuat produk nugget ikan nila.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder driven by oxidative stress and immune dysregulation, often exacerbated by prolonged non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) use. Conventional therapies provide symptomatic relief but are limited by severe adverse effects, necessitating safer alternatives. Channa striata (snakehead fish) is a rich source of albumin, essential amino acids, and bioactive compounds with potential immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects. This study investigates the therapeutic efficacy of purified Channa striata albumin extract in an indomethacin-induced IBD rat model. Albumin was isolated via ammonium sulfate precipitation and characterized by SDS-PAGE, antioxidant activity (DPPH assay), and amino acid profiling. Rats were treated with Channa striata albumin (100-300 mg/kg BW) for 14 days post-indomethacin induction. Compared to controls and diclofenac-treated groups, the extract significantly reduced malondialdehyde (MDA) levels (up to 90.69%), improved jejunal histoarchitecture, and enhanced occludin expression. Immunohistochemistry showed a marked reduction in CD4+T cell infiltration, indicating immunomodulatory activity. These findings establish Channa striata albumin as a potent natural antioxidant and immunomodulator, offering a safer alternative to NSAIDs for IBD management.

Quality feed in aquaculture is very important to increase the growth and health of fish. Low feed efficiency can be overcome by feed supplementation using catalytic enzymes. One of the enzymes that can stimulate digestion is protease in red ginger plants. The protease enzyme in red ginger plants plays a role in breaking peptide bonds in place of carboxyl groups so that peptides are formed from complex compounds into simpler compounds. This study aims to determine the profile of amino acids and proximate in feed given red ginger enzymes. This research uses descriptive method. The feed sample used was commercial feed with 4 treatments namely Control (without red ginger enzyme), treatment A (1%), treatment B (3%), and treatment C (5%). The analyzes carried out included red ginger enzyme extraction, protease enzyme purification, proximate and amino acid analysis of each type of feed. The results showed that the results of the SDS-Page analysis on the red ginger protease sample contained at 67.1 kDa. The results of the proximate analysis showed the highest value in feed containing 3% red ginger protease (B) with a percentage of 42.69%. The resulting amino acid content consists of 8 non-essential amino acids namely, L-serine, L-glutamic acid, L-alanine, L-arginine, glycine, L-aspartic acid, L-tyrosine and L-proline. While the essential amino acids consist of 7 types of amino acids namely, L-Phenylalani, L-Isoleucine, L-Valine, L-Lysine, L-Leucine, L-Threonine and L-Histidine. The best type of feed is feed B, which is feed with the addition of 3% red ginger protease.

Abstract. Akabessy JL, Yahya, Fadjar M, Suprayitno E. 2022. Identification of Tambelo (Bactronophorus thoracites) in Wamesa Waters, Manokwari, West Papua, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 23: 6021-6030. Tambelo, otherwise known as shipworm, is a marine bivalve mollusk comprising 16 genera in the Teridinidae family, of which Teredo is the most frequently mentioned. Furthermore, the only species in the genus Bactronophorus is the wood borer, Bactronophorus thoracites (Teredinidae), which has a wide distribution in the Indo-West Pacific biogeographical region. Identifying shipworm species is difficult due to their high diversity and the limited information about their taxonomic characteristics, which often leads to identification errors by collectors. Papuan people consume tambelo as a substitute for side dishes because they are believed to be able to cure various diseases. Therefore, this study aims to establish by morphology and molecular analysis that tambelo belongs to the B. thoracites of the Teredinidae family. Tambelo was identified using the morphological method of observing the physical characterization of the palette, which is unique between genera. It was collected from a mangrove forest near Wamesa Beach, South Manokwari, Manokwari Regency, Indonesia. Meanwhile, this study adopted PCR, an identification method that uses DNA from a small number of samples and can provide a DNA sample sequence. Morphological analysis based on pallet characterization showed that the characteristics of the tambelo pallet were similar to those of the B. thoracites based on the identification book. In addition, the molecular phylogenetic analysis using two mitochondrial protein-coding genes, cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI), showed tambelo was 91% similar to B. thoracites from mangroves environment on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, Malaysia.
