The first ((e) over right arrow ,e'(p) over right arrow) polarization transfer measurements on a nucleus heavier than deuterium have been carried out at Jefferson Laboratory. Transverse and longitudinal components of the polarization of protons ejected in the reaction O-16((e) over right arrow ,e'(p) over right arrow) were measured in quasielastic perpendicular kinematics at a Q(2) of 0.8 (GeV/c)(2). The data are in good agreement with state of the art calculations.

The first (→e,e′→p) polarization transfer measurements on a nucleus heavier than deuterium have been carried out at Jefferson Laboratory. Transverse and longitudinal components of the polarization of protons ejected in the reaction 16O(→e,e′→p) were measured in quasielastic perpendicular kinematics at a Q2 of 0.8 (GeV/c)2. The data are in good agreement with state of the art calculations.
New cross section and analyzing power data for Sr-88(p,p) at E(p) = 200 MeV are reported and analyzed together with earlier cross section data. Neutron transition densities for low-lying normal-parity excitations were extracted using an empirical density-dependent effective interaction and an expansion of the radial density which permits analysis of uncertainties due to penetrability, distortion, incompleteness, statistics, and normalization. The densities were compared with shell-model calculations using effective operators based upon a density-dependent Hartree-Fock approximation. Good agreement between theory and experiment is obtained for the 2(1)+, 3(1)-, and 5(1)- states, but the experimental neutron densities for the 2(2)+ and 7(1)- states are considerably stronger than Both proton and neutron transition densities for the 2(2)+ state have strong interior lobes, but the theory fails to reproduce the accompanying surface lobes.
Recently derived data-to-data (DTD) relations have been applied to elastic and inelastic scattering of 800-MeV protons from /sup 90/Zr and /sup 92/Zr. Significant differences between the cross sections for the 2/sub 1//sup ts+/ and 4/sub 1//sup ts+/ states in the two nuclei suggest that DTD relations between elastic and inelastic cross sections are inadequate. Nevertheless, the DTD relation which predicts the analyzing power (A/sub y/) from the cross section for inelastic transitions yields excellent agreement with the data. The physical significance of the fitting parameters is discussed.
