Reaction of Vinylogous Formamidinium Salts with Nucleophiles, III. On the Reduction of Polymethinium Salts with Sodium Tetrahydroborate. A Method for the Synthesis of Substituted 1,3-Diaminopropanes The action of sodium tetrahydroborate in excess on polymethinium salts proceeds by reduction of the double bonds of the iminium and enamine groups. Numerous substituted 1,3-diaminopropanes (4a–q) were prepared by boranate reduction of trimethinium perchlorates 3a–k and vinylogous formamidines 51–q.
