OBJECTIVES:This study aimed to examine the effect of a psychoeducational intervention based on the Positive Psychotherapy Balance Model on balanced living, psychological well-being, and self-efficacy among caregivers of patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer. METHODS:This study employed a randomized controlled trial with repeated measures (pretest, posttest, and follow-up). A total of 38 caregivers of patients with colorectal cancer were included. Nineteen caregivers in the intervention group received a structured psychoeducation program consisting of five sessions based on the Positive Psychotherapy Balance Model, while 19 caregivers in the control group received a single-session informational intervention. Data were collected at baseline, immediately postintervention, and at the 3-month follow-up using the balanced living scale, psychological well-being scale, and general self-efficacy scale. Statistical analyses included chi-square and Fisher's exact tests, independent samples t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, repeated measures analysis of variance, and the Friedman test. RESULTS:The psychoeducation intervention significantly improved balanced living, psychological well-being, and general self-efficacy among caregivers in the intervention group compared with baseline. However, these improvements were partially attenuated at follow-up, indicating a decline over time. CONCLUSIONS:The findings suggest that a psychoeducational program based on the Positive Psychotherapy Balance Model may be an effective psychiatric nursing intervention for enhancing psychosocial well-being among caregivers of oncology patients. However, the results should be interpreted cautiously considering the study's methodological limitations. To support the sustainability of these outcomes, integrating structured psychoeducation into routine oncology care and follow-up processes, along with periodic booster sessions, may be beneficial.
PURPOSE:The current study aimed to evaluate the effects of a brain awareness psychoeducation intervention on metacognition, self-efficacy, and treatment motivation, and examine its impact on relapse prevention in patients with substance use disorder (SUD). METHOD:A randomized control group design was used. Seventy-seven inpatients were included. The experimental group (EG, n = 39) received a brain awareness intervention (BAI) and the control group (CG, n = 38) received education about general health in addition to standard treatment. Metacognition, self-efficacy, and treatment motivation were assessed at baseline, postintervention, and follow up using validated scales. RESULTS:The EG showed significant improvements in metacognition, self-efficacy, and treatment motivation compared with the CG. Pathological metacognitive activities significantly decreased, whereas self-efficacy perception and treatment motivation increased and relapse rates decreased. CONCLUSION:The BAI significantly reduced relapse rates, demonstrating that incorporating neurocognitive awareness practices into standard treatment protocols enhances outcomes in treatment for SUD and psychiatric nursing practice.

BACKGROUND:Simulation-based training can help nursing students improve their mental and physical healthcare knowledge and skills.OBJECTIVES:This study focused on two different simulation modalities and investigated whether they helped nursing students acquire knowledge and develop skills necessary to address the physical health problems of people with mental disorders.DESIGN:This is a mixed-method study.SETTINGS:This study was conducted in Turkey.PARTICIPANTS:The sample consisted of 61 students divided into two experimental groups and one control group.METHODS:One experimental group participated in a clinical simulation scenario involving a standardized patient modality, while the other participated in a hybrid simulation modality (standardized patient and high-fidelity model simulator). The control group participated in conventional training. The researchers evaluate the effect of the modalities and conventional training on clinical practice one month after the interventions. Focus group interviews were conducted with all participants one month after the evaluation. Knowledge test was administered to all participants before the intervention, after the intervention, at the third and sixth months after the intervention.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The clinical simulation was statistically effective for students' skill development about physical health problems of psychiatric patients. Also, in the qualitative findings, the clinical simulation increased the knowledge level of the students and improved their physical health assessment skills. Standardized patient simulation and hybrid simulation modalities should be used to help nursing students develop their assessment skills regarding the physical health problems of psychiatric patients.
Background: Dating violence is an increasing issue among young people and affects them psychologically. It also includes characteristics like controlling and/or monitoring. Cyber-dating abuse is dating violence characterized as harassing another person in a romantic connection via texting or online emails to control, threaten, or stalk them. Objectives: This study was conducted to investigate nursing students' knowledge of and attitudes towards dating, dating violence, and cyber-dating violence.Design: This is a descriptive cross-sectional study. Participants: The sample consisted of 448 nursing students from three universities in Istanbul, Turkey. Methods: Data were collected using a Personal Information Form, the Dating Violence Knowledge Form (DVKF), the Dating Violence Scale (DVS), and the Cyber-Dating Abuse Questionnaire (CDAQ).Results: Participants had a mean age of 20.9 +/- 1.9 years. Most participants were women (83.7 %). More than a quarter of the participants were involved in romantic relationships (30.6 %). Participants had a mean DVKF score of 82.0 +/- 9.1. One in ten participants was subjected to dating violence (11.2 %). Participants had a mean DVS score of 4.69 +/- 0.25. There was no significant difference in CDAQ scores between participants who used violence (28.3 +/- 11.5) and those subjected to violence (27.0 +/- 8.9). There was a negative correlation between partici-pants' DVKF and CDAQ scores (p < 0.05). The results showed that participants had a high DVKF score and disapproved of dating violence. Participants with a higher DVKF score were less likely to use or be exposed to cyber violence. Conclusions: In conclusion, we should develop interventions to strengthen young people's mental health because they are subjected to dating violence. Nurse educators and nurses should also plan interventions to protect young people's mental health and raise their awareness of cyber violence.
Aims: This study examined the relationships between self-transcendence and depressive symptoms, self-esteem, and locus of control in persons with substance abuse disorder (SUDs). Methods: This descriptive-relational study examined 115 participants who had been diagnosed with SUD. Results: High self-transcendence scores were positively associated with lower levels of depressive symptoms, higher levels of self-esteem, and internal locus of control. Practice implications: Mental health nurses are effective at finding and maintaining resources that promote self-transcendence and support the potential and well-being of individuals with SUD. This study addresses a research gap regarding self-transcendence in such individuals; it provides a basis for nurses to develop interventions to strengthen the mental health of patients and conduct future investigations on the topic.
The aim of the study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of the Substance Abuse Self-Stigma Scale-TR. The data were collected from 260 participants with substance use disorder history who were attending group therapy in the Istanbul Probation Department between April 4 and May 1, 2016. Using exploratory factor analyses, internal consistency, split-half reliability, construct validity, and concurrent validity were evaluated. The Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient of the Substance Abuse Self-Stigma Scale-TR was .77. Item-total correlation coefficients for the scale items were between .30 and .63. According to confirmatory factor analysis, chi-square/degrees of freedom ratio was 1.69 and rootmean-square error of approximation was .05 (p < .01). There was a strong positive correlation between the Substance Abuse Self-Stigma Scale-TR and the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness Scale (r =.712; p < .001). These preliminary findings should be confirmed in larger-scale, multi-center studies among patients in long-term treatment. This study indicates that the Substance Abuse Self-Stigma Scale-TR is a reliable and valid instrument for determining self-stigma in individuals with substance use disorder.
