The National University (Indonesian: Universitas Nasional, UNAS) is the oldest private university in Jakarta and the second oldest in Indonesia. It was founded as the National Academy by several Indonesian scholars on October 15, 1949. UNAS has been accredited "A" by the National Accreditation Body for Higher Education (BAN-PT), and also credited by QS Star University Rating, having been awarded 4 stars during the evaluation.
This study aims to analyze the implementation of revitalizing the Betawi language at the elementary school (SD) and junior high school (SMP) levels in Jakarta through the integration of local culture in educational activities. The study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method to describe the practices of using the Betawi language in school learning contexts. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews with teachers and students, and analysis of learning documents and school cultural activities. The results show that the policy of revitalization of the Betawi language is more effective when integrated into project-based learning, school cultural activities, and creative activities that incorporate elements of Betawi culture, such as art performances, role-playing, and daily communication practices. This approach has proven capable of increasing students’ interest, participation, and awareness of the Betawi language as part of their local cultural identity. However, its implementation of the revitalization program still faces several challenges, including the absence of a specific curriculum, limited teaching materials, lack of teacher training, and the influence of popular and global languages in students’ daily lives. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a strategy to include a structured curriculum or local content program, provide relevant teaching materials, improve teacher capacity, and utilize digital technology and social media as learning media. Sustainable policy support and collaboration among schools, government, and communities are essential factors in strengthening the revitalization of the Betawi language and maintaining the sustainability of local language as part of Jakarta’s cultural identity.
This study demonstrates the generation of ultrafast picosecond mode-locked pulses in an erbium-doped fiber laser using a polyaniline–boron nitride (PANI–BN) nanocomposite as a saturable absorber (SA). The PANI–BN nanocomposite exhibits significant nonlinear optical absorption, with a modulation depth of 4.1
This article argues that neoliberalism and patriarchy are interconnected in creating academic precarity for early-career women academics in Indonesia. It examines state-promoted higher-education policies that advance neoliberalisation through discourses of self-reliance, competitiveness, and entrepreneurship, with particular attention to self-reliance, which has emerged as the most significant aspect of early-career academics' lives. Under patriarchy, women are often burdened with responsibilities for childcare and domestic chores. Drawing on Michel de Certeau's concept of 'making do', this article analyses how Indonesian early-career women academics navigate academic precarity to construct their self-imagined careers. Our analysis of 13 interviewees shows that these scholars respond to academic precarity by engaging in side hustles and leveraging online work, taking steps to navigate precarious academic careers, and negotiating informal support systems to handle precarious personal relationships. Although the participants did not explicitly mention feminism, their everyday practices embody feminist values. The article thus concludes that 'making do' is an individual tactic, while collective academic practice is needed.
In the post-Reformasi era, Indonesian civil society confronts increasingly complex democratic challenges amidst shifting power dynamics. This research aims to dissect the discourse surrounding the political role of civil society in democratic development through the perspectives of intellectual circles in Surabaya and Malang. Employing a qualitative method rooted in Michel Foucault's discourse analysis, the study explores intellectual viewpoints via in-depth interviews and comprehensive documentary analysis. The findings reveal a fragmentation of discourse into three distinct typologies: critical intellectuals, who emphasize a total oversight function against state power; moderate intellectuals, who advocate for strategic collaboration with the government; and hybrid intellectuals, who promote cooperative engagement while maintaining a rigorous critical distance. This study concludes that the political role of civil society is far from monolithic; rather, it is the product of intellectual contestation shaped by the intricate power relations between scholars and state structures.
Kecapi or santol fruit (Sandoricum koetjape) is currently very rare. Many factors are suspected of causing this crop scarcity, i.e, low economic value, less attractive because it quickly turns brown and land conversion. Kecapi contains antioxidants, beta carotene, polyphenols, sentulic acids and high pectin. This study aims to determine the effects of gamma radiation on the germination and growth of two kecapi seedling accessions. The experiment was conducted using a Split-plot Randomized Block Design with three replications. The treatments consisted of two kecapi accessions (Yellow and Green) and seven doses of gamma ray irradiation (0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60 Gy). The results showed that the interaction between kecapi accession and radiation dose significantly affected the percentage of viability and seedling height in the nursery. Kecapi accession did not significantly affect viability or growth rate. However, the radiation dose significantly affected the percentage of viability, and the dose of 60 Gy produced the highest percentage. Radiation significantly suppressed seedling growth; higher radiation doses resulted in shorter seedling growth. The leaf colour was generally categorised as scale 5G (green-yellow) based on the colour chart observation. The radiation resulted in shorter stomata than the control. The stomata density was 476.4 to 985.8 stomata mm-2.
