Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) has been widely implemented to support motivation and language development in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) instruction. However, empirical studies examining its use in English for Islamic Banking within Islamic higher education contexts remain limited. This study investigates the effectiveness of CALL in enhancing students’ motivation and language skills in an English for Islamic Banking course at an Islamic higher education institution. Employing a quasi-experimental one-group pre-test/post-test design, the study involved 20 undergraduate Islamic Banking students who participated in a CALL-based instructional intervention conducted over six sessions. Data were collected through language proficiency assessments based on an IELTS speaking rubric and a motivation questionnaire based on Keller’s ARCS model. The findings indicate a statistically significant improvement in language proficiency (t(19) = 2.42, p = 0.025, Cohen’s d = 0.53). In addition, Attention (d = 0.63), Confidence (t(19) = 2.29, p = 0.033, d = 0.52), and Satisfaction (d = 1.17) showed significant gains, with Satisfaction demonstrating the largest effect size. Meanwhile, the Relevance component showed no significant change (p = 0.33), possibly due to students’ prior perception of the course content as inherently applicable to their academic and professional goals. The study suggests that CALL can serve as an effective pedagogical approach for supporting learner motivation and language development in ESP courses within Islamic higher education, particularly when instructional activities are aligned with learners’ professional contexts in Islamic finance.
Abtrack: This study aims to analyze Islamic law's perspective on the phenomenon of marriage by accident, as highlighted in the film "Dua Garis Biru," specifically regarding the child's lineage status and its impact. The method used is library research with a qualitative approach. The results of the study indicate that marriage resulting from an out-of-wedlock pregnancy raises complex issues in determining the child's lineage. In Islamic law, lineage is very important because it is related to children's civil rights such as inheritance, guardianship, and maintenance. The majority of Islamic scholars believe that children born from an out-of-wedlock relationship do not have lineage with the biological father unless the marriage took place before the pregnancy or the child was born at least six months after the marriage contract. In the film "Dua Garis Biru," the couple Dara and Bima married after Dara learned she was pregnant, but the gestational age before the marriage did not meet the minimum requirements for determining paternity. This indicates the unclear status of the child's lineage from an Islamic sharia perspective. This study emphasizes the importance of a deep understanding of Islamic law in dealing with cases of marriage by accident, so that children's rights remain protected even though positive law in Indonesia, through the Compilation of Islamic Law, permits the marriage of pregnant women without waiting for birth. The absence of formal financial identity remains a major barrier to financial inclusion in developing nations. Existing centralized identity systems are often vulnerable to fraud, data breaches, and third-party control, leading to low public trust and limited access to financial services. Blockchain technology offers a decentralized alternative through the concept of Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI), which enables individuals to own and control their personal data securely. This study aims to examine how blockchain-based identity systems can address the weaknesses of traditional identity frameworks and to identify the key technical and social challenges in their implementation within developing economies. Using a qualitative, case study-based approach, the research analyzes several blockchain-driven digital identity projects across diverse regions. The findings indicate that blockchain-enabled SSI improves data security, transparency, and user trust, while enhancing access to financial services. However, challenges related to infrastructure limitations, scalability, and regulatory uncertainty re- main significant obstacles. Overall, blockchain has the potential to serve as a foundational technology for creating inclusive, secure, and sustainable financial identity systems in developing nations, while offering practical insights for policymakers, regulators, and financial institutions worldwide.
Background: Evidence indicates that cricket match results depend on the quality of sport motivation (SM) and technical skills (TS) of elite athletes, and both aspects can be improved through coaches' verbal encouragement during circuit training (CVEdCT). However, limited research has examined the combined effect of verbal encouragement within structured circuit training on both psychological and technical outcomes in cricket. Objectives: Our study aims to examine the effect of CVEdCT on improving SM and TS. Methods: This study adopted an experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. We involved 38 elite cricket athletes in this study. Overall, this study was conducted over a period of 9 weeks. The SM and TS aspects were measured at the pretest and posttest stages. Results: Our research results show that there is a time × group effect on the SM variable in all indicators of intrinsic motivation (p = 0.007), integrated regulation (p = 0.0012), external regulation (p < 0.001), amotivation (p = 0.010), and TS variables with indicators of batting accuracy (p < 0.001), bowling speed (p = 0.006), bowling accuracy (p < 0.001), and fielding efficiency (p = 0.024). Meanwhile, we observed a time effect on the indicators of intrinsic motivation (p = 0.002), integrated regulation (p = 0.031), external regulation (p = 0.013), and amotivation (p = 0.048). Additionally, the TS variable showed significant effects for the indicators of batting accuracy (p = 0.007), bowling speed (p = 0.003), bowling accuracy (p = 0.011), and fielding efficiency (p = 0.006). Based on the Poshoc Bonferroni analysis, there was a significant effect of both groups on SM and TS, but the increase was greater in CVEdCT than CTG. Conclusion: Thus, this study concludes that CVEdCT can improve SM and TS among elite cricket athletes better than CTG.
