Introduction/Objective: climate change represents one of the most pressing contemporary environmental challenges, particularly within educational settings where fostering sustainability-oriented behaviors has become a priority. The objective of this study was to examine the influence of climate change knowledge, climate change awareness, and climate risk perception on pro-environmental behaviors among Mexican university students using a structural equation modeling (SEM) approach. Methodology: this study employed an explanatory, non-experimental research design. Data were collected at a single point in time from a sample of 356 Mexican university students. A structured questionnaire was administered to measure climate change knowledge, climate change awareness, climate risk perception, and pro-environmental behaviors. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling (SEM), including the assessment of both the measurement model and the structural model. Results: the findings showed that climate change knowledge and climate change awareness had positive and statistically significant effects on pro-environmental behaviors, confirming their importance in explaining pro-environmental behavior among university students. In addition, climate change knowledge exerted a positive and statistically significant effect on climate risk perception. However, climate risk perception did not have a significant direct effect on pro-environmental behaviors, suggesting that its influence may depend on indirect mechanisms or other psychological and contextual factors. Conclusions: the findings highlight the importance of strengthening both climate change knowledge and climate change awareness within sustainability-oriented higher education programs. The results support the value of integrative approaches for understanding pro-environmental behavior and provide evidence that can guide higher education institutions in designing strategies to promote and strengthen sustainable practices.
Introduction/objective: the COVID-19 pandemic reshaped food consumption patterns worldwide. This study examines the attitudinal and behavioral changes reported by consumers in Ecuador’s two main cities (Quito and Guayaquil) toward food delivery apps (FDA) across three periods—pre-pandemic (2019), pandemic (2020-2021) and post-pandemic (2022-2025)—using retrospective questions. Methodology: a cross-sectional study with a retrospective approach and non-experimental design. A questionnaire grounded in the extended UTAUT2 model with perceived trust and perceived COVID-19 risk was applied to a convenience sample of 468 consumers (n = 250 Quito; n = 218 Guayaquil). Data were analyzed using PLS-SEM and multi-group analysis (MGA). Results: the model explains 67.3 % of the variance in continuance intention (R² = 0.673). The strongest significant predictors were habit (β = 0.52), performance expectancy (β = 0.41) and perceived trust (β = 0.29). City-level differences emerged: habit weighed more in Quito (β = 0.58 vs. 0.47) and social influence in Guayaquil (β = 0.46 vs. 0.31). Conclusions: participants reported usage that remains above pre-pandemic levels. The study provides the first systematic empirical evidence on the determinants of FDA continuance intention in the two cities that concentrate this market in Ecuador, documenting intra-country differences with implications for differentiated marketing strategies.
Introductión/aim: Considering the increasing use of digital surveys and the risks associated with information quality, it is important to understand how completion time affects data quality. This research aims to analyze the parabolic relationship between completion time and response quality in digital questionnaires. Methodology: This research employs a quantitative methodology with a non-experimental and cross-sectional design. A 32-item questionnaire based on the MLQ was utilized. The survey was administered to 224 participants in Ecuador and Peru, selected through non-probability sampling. Response quality was evaluated using criteria such as standard deviation, incomplete surveys, straightlining, and inconsistencies, while completion time was recorded automatically. Results: The regression confirms the existence of an inverse parabolic behavior of response quality as a function of completion time, implying the existence of an optimal range for quality. Perceived burden, female gender, and age showed positive coefficients on response quality. Conclusions: The findings confirm a parabolic relationship between survey completion time and response quality, identifying an optimal duration that maximizes data reliability.
Objective: to present and initially assess a formative composite index that describes integrated governance and execution capacity in four Colombian public health entities using 2025 Institutional Environment and Performance Survey (EDI) microdata. Methodology: component selection followed a deductive content-validity strategy based on conceptual review, alignment with the EDI thematic structure, organisational relevance, comparability across entities, non-redundancy, and exclusion of variables that operate as outcomes or individual attributes. Valid ordinal responses were transformed to a 0-100 scale; non-substantive codes were treated as missing. Equal weights were used as the main specification. The analysis examined data availability, correlations, VIF, sensitivity to calculation rules, entity-stratified bootstrap intervals, Kruskal-Wallis tests, WLS models with HC3 errors, and internal association with perceived performance. Results: the sample included 679 records, and the Integrated Governance and Execution Composite Index–Health (ICIGE-S) was computable for 582. The weighted mean was 71.17 (95% bootstrap CI: 70.06-72.27). Entity comparisons are reported as descriptive and exploratory because the available file lacks complete survey-design identifiers and sample sizes are unequal. The PCA-weighted specification was almost identical to the main index (Spearman rho = 0.999). Conclusion: the ICIGE-S is an initial, transparent, and replicable proposal for profiling perceived capacities in the entities studied. It is not yet a consolidated tool for general use without independent external criteria.
Introduction/Objectives: e-commerce is no longer just a sales channel. Nowadays new technologies have opened the door for e-commerce platforms such as Social Marketing (SM) or Happiness Management (HM), to engage with broader societal concerns, especially within their organisations. After a literature review where the three concepts are studied separately, a critical question yet remains underexplored: do these domains merely coexist, or can they reinforce one another in meaningful ways? And if so, what role does e-commerce play in that process? This study addresses precisely that question. Methodology: a bibliometric review of the literature on SM and HM was implemented using the Web of Science and Scopus databases, applying the PRISMA methodology and Bibliometrix and VOSviewer tools. This combination enabled the development of co-occurrence and co-authorship maps, providing the research with greater analytical excellence. Results: after filtering and analysing 65 articles, we discovered that e-commerce appears as a structural axis linking HM and SM, acting as a visibility channel for actions related to employee happiness. The analyses show that HM is still in a developmental phase, while SM demonstrates a more consolidated trajectory. However, both fields lack sufficiently robust collaborative authorship communities, unravelling the need to strengthen collaborative research synergies. Conclusions: this study consolidates e-commerce as a connecting element between organisational happiness management and social marketing strategies, shaping an emerging field of research. It also shows that organisations wishing to gain a long-term competitive advantage should use digital platforms to promote social responsibility and employee well-being.
Introduction/objectives: emotional salary comprises non-monetary compensations that influence employees motivation, job satisfaction, performance, and well-being. The aim of this study was to validate the Emotional Salary Insertion Scale. Methodology: an instrumental study was conducted with a sample of 566 employees from the city of Arequipa (53% men and 47% women), with a mean age of 28.30 years. The Emotional Salary Insertion Instrument was administered, and analyses were performed using R software, applying Unique Variable Analysis (UVA), Exploratory Graph Analysis (EGA), and a bootstrap procedure with 1,000 resamples to assess the stability of items and dimensions. Results: responses were concentrated at moderate to high levels. The EGA identified a 12 item structure grouped into three dimensions: Work Relationships, Growth and Cohesion, and Work Flexibility, which showed adequate stability, structural consistency, and metric invariance across gender. Conclusions: the instrument demonstrated adequate internal structure validity and structural consistency (reliability), supporting its use as a brief and valid measure for the Peruvian context.
Introduction/objective: sustainable happiness in companies is a current and highly relevant topic. However, there is little evidence to suggest that sustainability practices can enhance the impact of happiness on company performance. Therefore, the objective of this study is to answer the following research questions: What is the effect of happiness on business performance? And, what is the combined effect of happiness and sustainability on that performance? Methodology: to test the two hypotheses, several multiple linear regression models were performed on a sample of IBEX-35 companies. Results: the results show, first, that happiness has significant effects on return on assets (ROA) and equity (ROE). And second, positive and significant effects of the happiness-sustainability combination on ROA, ROE and Tobin’s Q have been found. Conclusions: this study has demonstrated that the happiness-sustainability binomial helps companies to be more profitable and create more value. Society can benefit from a company that cares about people and the planet. Improving the world is possible if we focus on a sustainable planet, productive companies and happy people.
Introduction/Objective: this study examines how risk communication (balanced vs. unbalanced information), product type (basic, mid-range, high-end), and consumer income level (low, middle, high) influence credit card use and installment payment decisions. Methodology: a discrete choice experiment was designed with 90 participants (62 women, 28 men; mean age = 29.5 years) classified by per capita income into three levels (low, middle, high). Results: the results show that balanced information increased the likelihood of choosing a credit card and reduced the number of installments selected. Conversely, middle- and high-income groups showed a greater preference for mid- and high-value products, intensified by unbalanced information, which led to longer payment terms. An ordinal logistic regression model confirmed that providing balanced information significantly reduces the number of installments, with a greater impact on low-income participants. Conclusions: these findings underscore the role of balanced communication in mitigating financial risk and highlight the importance of risk literacy strategies that complement traditional financial education. This research contributes to the literature on consumer behaviour and behavioural economics by showing that the quality of information can shape more responsible credit decisions, with relevant implications for public policy design and the regulation of financial markets in contexts of economic vulnerability.
Introduction/objective: this article focuses on the predictive relationship between entrepreneurial competencies and organizational development in MSMEs in Oaxaca de Juárez, Mexico. Methodology: through quantitative research (n = 379) with an exploratory and explanatory scope, entrepreneurial competencies and organizational development were studied. Exploratory factor analyses were performed to determine construct validity and internal consistency; regarding the former, these were significant with robust internal consistency across all factors. Based on this, a multiple linear regression model was constructed and optimized using the enter method, allowing for a holistic integration of competency dimensions in predicting the organizational phenomenon. Results: a positive and significant predictive association was identified between the variables. The final seven-factor model demonstrated explanatory capacity, capturing 54.4% of the variance in organizational development. The findings confirm that, in survival contexts, business development primarily depends on the leader’s strategic and relational competencies over structural factors. Conclusions: the entrepreneur’s competency profile is the driver of organizational development in survival contexts, surpassing the relevance of formal administrative practices. The results provide a validated model for environments of economic adversity, offering a strategic tool for strengthening MSMEs and designing public policies for business promotion in emerging economies such as Mexico.
Introduction/Purpose: this study examines the associations between artificial intelligence use in workplace settings and employee well-being. It also considers work meaning and professional identity, perceived employment uncertainty linked to AI, and AI-related work demands, while addressing how psychological empowerment may influence employees’ reactions to these technological changes. Methodology: a quantitative. Cross-sectional approach was adopted. The study included 507 employees from six English-speaking countries, based on the AI, Work & Human Identity 2025 dataset developed by Human Clarity Institute (2025). The proposed relationships were examined using PLS-SEM to analyse the associations amongst the study variables and the corresponding mediation effects. Results: the findings indicate that work meaning and identity, together with psychological empowerment related to AI use, were positively linked to employee well-being, while perceived job threat was negative association with well-being, psychological empowerment presented a partial mediating effect between work meaning and identity and employee well-being. Conclusions: the findings suggest that the relationship between AI and employee well-being is influenced by specific psychological mechanisms.
Introduction: this paper investigates the factors influencing people’s desire to buy a home. We examine how consumer satisfaction may be influenced by factors such as price, housing features and the developer’s reputation. We adopt a more comprehensive approach which differs from the traditional view of residential choice as a purely rational process. We consider how these crucial decisions can be influenced by our emotions and overall happiness. Methodology: this research employed a structured questionnaire to gather data from 767 adult Chinese citizens and utilised partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS SEM) to demonstrate sufficient levels of reliability and validity. Results: consumer satisfaction is positively influenced by price and developer brand whereas the emotional dimension does not seem to be significantly affected by housing characteristics. On the other hand, housing features are the principal single influencer of buying intention. Similarly, consumer happiness has a relevant impact on this goal. In this type of research, price and brand are not directly related to purchase intention but indirectly linked through consumer happiness. Conclusions: both functional and emotional factors influence housing investment. This indicates that marketing initiatives to maximise consumer happiness can be profitable for real estate developers, which is especially vital for improving a trusted brand, transparent communication and homes that help with comfort and daily life.
