ABSTRACT This article presents the results of a master’s degree research project conducted at a public High School in the Federal District, with the participation of eight third-year students. Using the theoretical framework of Cultural Psychology, qualitative research was conducted to investigate students’ perspectives about the role of school in the construction of gender, racial, and sexual identities. Focus groups and workshops were held in which participants analyzed and created images representing their perceptions about the topics. The results indicated that schools often condone the reproduction of prejudice and discrimination against women, Black people, and those with sexual orientations other than heterosexuality. For the participants, schools promote equality when they disseminate knowledge, but they could address issues of gender, race, and sexuality as a way to contribute to transforming schools into democratic spaces that include all.
ABSTRACT The implementation process of Law No. 13,935 (2019) must be organized by the Departments of Education of Brazilian municipalities and states. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor the ongoing organizational and hiring processes. Therefore, this research aims to understand how the hiring process for school psychologists to work in the municipal Basic Education system of the city of Joinville unfolded. To this end, five reflective interviews were conducted with psychology professionals working in the municipal Basic Education system. The data were organized based on Content Analysis, and the theoretical construction and argumentation of the analyses were based on the authors from Historical-Cultural Psychology. The results point to a hiring process characterized by a rushed organization, a lack of information to justify certain decisions, and the use of public notices with no connection to Education.

ABSTRACT Higher education has expanded in recent years. Along with this progress, there has been a notable increase in dropout rates at universities, which has been detrimental to students and society. This study sought to identify the main reasons for dropout rates among university students, based on publications published between 2012 and 2024. The searches were conducted in the Virtual Health Library (BVS), the Online Scientific Electronic Library (SciELO), PSYCNET, and PUBMED. A total of 147 studies were obtained, of which 12 were included. Empirical, peer-reviewed studies that discussed the reasons for dropout were included, among other inclusion and exclusion criteria. It was found that the reasons for university dropout occur through the interrelation of socioeconomic, personal, academic, and institutional factors. Most of the studies analyzed were conducted in Latin America (n=8) and in nursing courses (n=4). Financial issues (n=10) and personal expectations (n=9) were the most frequently mentioned issues among students who dropped out. As a means of prevention and assistance, it is necessary to implement educational policies that aim to reduce dropout rates in higher education, encouraging students to remain in universities through strategies that guarantee access to housing, food, transportation, health, digital inclusion, culture, sports, pedagogical support and access for students with disabilities. In these strategies, monitoring the dropout rate in Higher Education is considered an urgent demand for the work of school psychologists.
