The effects of turfy soil on growth, development, yield and quality of flue-cured tobacco were studied. The results showed that the best treatment was applying turfy soil 30 t/hm2.The turfy soil promoted the growth and development of tobacco plants, improved the disease resistance, and increased the first-class tobacco proportion and average price, especially fine tobacco ration.Ideal economic effects could be obtained by applying the turfy soil.
The paper researched the effects of wheat and maize straw returning on the growth and development of tobacco plants, and the yield and quality of flue-cured tobacco. The results showed that the wheat straw returning got a better effect than the maize straw returning, the 4.5 t/hm2 was the best treatment. The wheat straw returning promoted the growth and development of tobacco plants, improved the disease resistance;increased the first-class tobacco proportion, the tobacco yield, the tobacco value and price, especially fine tobacco ration;obtained ideal economic and ecological effects.
Correlation and stepwise selection regression analysis were used to investigate the relationships between sensory quality and precipitation in tobacco growing areas of Shandong Province. The two approaches produced very similar result. The difference of stepwise selection regression equations for aroma quality, after taste, offensive taste, irritancy, combustibility and total score with precipitation were significant at 1% level. There was significance difference in stepwise selection regression equations for impact and ash with precipitation. No variable met the 0.05 significance level for entry into the stepwise selection regression equations for taste concentration and volume of aroma with precipitation. The total score of sensory quality were positively related to precipitation of May and August, whereas the type of aroma and combustibility were negatively related. There were positive correlations between impact of tobacco leaves and precipitation of June. The quality of aroma were negatively related to precipitation of May, yet positively related to June. The after taste and score of offensive taste were positively related to precipitation of May and total precipitation from May to August. There were positive correlations between the score of irritancy and total precipitation from May to August.
A series of assessments on ecological adaptability of flue-cured tobacco were conducted in order to properly identify the best planting regions of flue-cured tobacco in Shandong province,China. The assessment used 29 factors as adaptability indices, including air temperature,≥10℃accumulated air temperature, sunshine hours, and humidity during field growth;annual precipitation during root extending, vigorous growth, and maturing periods;and temperature difference between day and night;soil pH,OM,soil soluble Cl,total N,E K,available N,E K,Ca,Mg,S,Fe,Mn,Zn,Cu,Mo;terrain, altitude, degree of slope, and soil type. The fuzzy logic, analytic hierarchy process, and arcGis were employed to classify and evaluate these indices. The results showed that,in Shandong, climatic suitability for flue-cured declined from the South to North,Too many sunshine hours during field growth period was the primarily climatic factor influencing the growth of flue-cured in Shandong.Soil nutrients were sufficient for the tobacco growth in Shandong. The terrain in Shandong was very suitable to the growth of flue-cured tobacco. Some of the soils along the seashore in Shandong was unfavorable to the growth of the flue-cured tobacco. Most of the current tobacco plantings were located in the most suitable or suitable regions in Shandong. The study is significant for proper planning and producing better flue-cured tobacco leaves at the lowest cost. The methods used in this study provided the greatest accuracies in assessing complicated influence factors on crops and can be effectively applied to other crops and regions.
