[Purpose] To investigate mortality of female breast cancer and cervical cancer in Kaifeng County.[Methods] The death data of breast cancer and cervical cancer from Cancer Registry in Kaifeng county from 1988 to 2005 were analyzed.[Results] The crude mortality of female breast cancer and cer-vical cancer from 1988 to 2005 in Kaifeng County was 2.64/105、3.80/105 respectively. The mortality with breast and cervical cancer increased with age growing and had two peaks of death, one was at age fifty, the other was at ages eighty. From 1988 to 2005,the mortality of breast cancer in female ascended but the mortality of cervical cancer descended slowly.[Conclusion] The breast cancer and cervical cancer are crucial diseases which harm the health in female in Kaifeng county.Dynamic surveilance and com-prehensive prevention and control for breast cancer and cervical cancer should be more strengthened in Kaifeng county.
[Purpose] To investigate the characteristic and trends on gastric cancer mortality in Kaifeng County.[Methods] The gastric cancer mortality was analyzed using the data from cancer regis-tration in Kaifeng county from 1988 to 2005.[Results] For male and female in Kaifeng county from 1988 to 2005,the crude mortality of gastric cancer were 11.79/105 and 6.81/105;the age-standarized mortality adjusted by Chinese standard population,8.42/105 and 3.66/105;and the age-standarized mortality adjusted by world standard population,14.68/105 and 6.17/105 respectively. From 1988 to 2005,decreasing trend of mortality rate of gastric cancer was not significant.[Conclusions] Strengthen-ing cancer surveillance and developing cancer trentment and prevention to reduce incidence and mor-tality of gastric cancer.
[Purpose] To explore the pathogenesis of breast cancer through appraising the main risk factors related to the incidence of breast cancer among Chinese female.[Method] The results from 12 case-control studies on risk factors of breast cancer from 1996 to 2006 were analyzed by meta-analysis.[Results] The pooled odds ratio values were:age at menarche(y),OR=1.5401(95%CI:1.3437~1.7654);breast-feeding,OR=0.6837(95%CI:0.4779~0.9782);oral-contraceptive use,OR= 1.3278(95%CI:1.0627~1.6589);history of benign breast disease,OR=2.6180(95%CI:2.0275~ 3.3804);smoking,OR=1.8576(95% CI:1.5394~2.2415);alcohol drinking,OR =0.8137(95% CI:0.6196~1.0686);tea drinking,OR=0.8625(95%CI:0.7646~0.9728).[Conclusion] The risk factors influencing the incidence of breast cancer among Chinese female were age at menarche(y),oral-contraceptive use, history of benign breast disease and smoking. The protective factors were breast-feeding and tea drinking.
[Objective]To study the relationship between alcohol drinking and hepatocellular carcinoma among Chinese population.[Methods]The results from 9 epidemiological studies on the relationship between alcohol drinking and hepatocellular carcinoma from 1997 to 2006 were analyzed synthetically by meta-analysis. The cumulative cases and controls were 1 695 and 2 312,respectively.[Results]The pooled OR for alcohol drinking was 1.8725(95%CI:1.3640-2.5704),and the related population attributable risk proportion was 10.82%.[Conclusion]Alcohol drinking is a risk factor of hepatocellular carcinoma in China.
Objective To investigate characteristic distribution and time trend of cancer mortality in Kaifeng county. Methods The cancer mortality was analyzed using the data from registry on malignant tumors deaths in Kaifeng county during 1988 to 2005.Age-standarized mortality rate adjusted by standard population with direct methods, and annual percentage change(APC) of mortality were estimated by a linear regression of the logarithm. Results The crude cancer mortality was 95.09/100,000 and 59.13/100,000,age-standarized mortality was 117.41/100,000 and 57.15/100,000 for male and female respectively.Over the 18-years period, the age-standarized mortality rate significantly increased for liver cancer(APC=5.07%) in males, and the rates significantly decreased for esophageal cancer in both of sexes(APC=-7.09%,APC=-13.53%).During the same time, the rates for all cancers combined and other sites of cancer showed a nonsignificant change. Conclusion From 1988 to 2005,the mortality rates for some of commonl digestive system cancer varied significantly in Kaifeng county.
[Objective] To explore the main risk factors related to the incidence of lung cancer among Chinese people so as to provide basis for decision making on lung cancer prevention. [Methods] 12 published literatures of case-control studies on risk factor of lung cancer from 1995 to 2007 were collected and analyzed synthetically by Meta-analysis. [Results] The pooled odds radio values and 95%CI were:smoking OR=2.7820(2.3428-3.3035) ;cooking smoking OR=2.6257(1.7312-3.9879) ;Family history of tumor OR =1.8075( 1.4745-2.2157) ;pulmonary tuberculosis OR =2.6018( 1.8946-3.5731) ;chronic bronchitis OR=2.3052(1.8013-2.9500) ;mentality OR=202648(1.8346-2.7932) ) ;alcohol drinking OR=1.4942(1.2491-1.7873) ;exposure to environmental tobacco smoking OR=1.7064(0.9109-3.1965) ;and fresh vegetables OR=0.5376(0.4445-0.6503) . [Conclusion] The risk factors influencing the incidence of lung cancer in Chinese people were smoking, alcohol drinking, cooking smoking, family history of tumor, pulmonary tuberculosis, chronic bronchitis, mentality and so on,while fresh vegetables were the protectoral factors.
OBJECTIVE:To investigate the time trends of cancer mortality among residents in Kaifeng county, Henan province.METHODS:Data on cancer mortality from the vital registration system in Kaifeng county from 1988 to 2005 was analyzed. A total of 9543 death records (5974 males and 3567 females) due to malignant tumors were studied. A two-year-period age-specified standardized mortality rates were directly adjusted by the world standard population, and the annual percentage change (APC) of mortality were estimated by a linear logarithm regression.RESULTS:The crude cancer death rate for male was 95.09/100,000 and its age-standardized death rate was 117.41/100,000. While, the crude cancer death rate for female was 59.13/100,000 and the age-standardized death rate was 57.15/100,000. There was a significant growth tread for lung cancer (APC: 6.54%), liver cancer (5.07%) in males and breast cancer (7.04%) in females in the groups aged over 18. On the contrary, the decreasing treads for esophageal cancer in both of sexes (-7.09%, -13.53%) were also observed in this study. Meanwhile, there was no other significant changes in the trend, either in the tumor sites or mortality, was observed.CONCLUSION:In the past two decades, there has been a significant increasing trend for cancer mortality in Kaifeng county, of Henan Province. Hence, it is necessary to enhance epidemiological survey to identify risk factors at the earlier stages.
Objective To evaluate the clinical value of DNA ploidy of carcinoma of esophagus, gastric cardia and stomach. Methods DNA content of 100 cases with malignant cancer of the upper gastrointestinal tract was measured by flow cytometry. The DNA ploidy and cell cycle distribution was analyzed. Results The DNA aneuploidy of carcinoma of esophagus, gastric cardia and stomach was 33.3%,60.0% and 73.7% ,respectively; the elevated proportion in the S phase was 36.7%,70.0% and 83.6%,respectively.The above-mentioned figures were markedly higher in the groups of the adenocarcinama than squamous carcinoma(P<0.05) and the elevated proportion in S phase and DNA aneuploidy tended to increase with the increase of pathological grading. Conclusion DNA aneuploidy of three kinds of malignant cancers is a pertinent index for determining the cell proliferation and malignance.
