We present a measurement of the W boson mass in W-->e(nu) decays using 1 fb-1 of data collected with the D0 detector during Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron collider. With a sample of 499830 W-->e(nu) candidate events, we measure M(W)=80.401+/-0.043 GeV. This is the most precise measurement from a single experiment.
At the Fermilab Tevatron proton-antiproton ($p\bar{p}$) collider, high-mass electron-neutrino ($e\nu$) pairs are produced predominantly in the process $p \bar{p} \rightarrow W(\rightarrow e\nu) + X$. The asymmetry of the electron and positron yield as a function of their pseudorapidity constrain the slope of the ratio of the $u$- to $d$-quark parton distributions versus the fraction of the proton momentum carried by the quarks. This paper reports on the measurement of the electron-charge asymmetry using the full data set recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab in 2001--2011 and corresponding to 9.1~fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. The measurement significantly improves the precision of the Tevatron constraints on the parton-distribution functions of the proton. Numerical tables of the measurement are provided.

We report on a search for a spin-zero non-standard model particle in proton-antiproton collisions collected by the Collider Detector at Fermilab at a center-of-mass-energy of 1.96 TeV. This particle, the phi boson, is expected to decay into a bottom-antibottom quark pair and to be produced in association with at least one bottom quark. The data sample consists of events with three jets identified as initiated by bottom quarks and corresponds to 5.4 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. In each event, the invariant mass of the two most energetic jets is studied by looking for deviations from the multijet background, which is modeled using data. No evidence is found for such a particle. Exclusion upper limits ranging from 20 to 2 pb are set for the product of production cross sections times branching fraction for the hypothetical phi boson with mass between 100 and 300 GeV/c(2). These are the most stringent constraints to date.
Drell-Yan lepton pairs produced in the process p (p) over bar -> l(+)l(-) + X through an intermediate gamma*/Z boson have an asymmetry in their angular distribution related to the spontaneous symmetry breaking of the electroweak force and the associated mixing of its neutral gauge bosons. The CDF and D0 experiments have measured the effective-leptonic electroweak mixing parameter sin(2) theta(lept)(eff) using electron and muon pairs selected from the full Tevatron proton-antiproton data sets collected in 2001-2011, corresponding to 9-10 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity. The combination of these measurements yields the most precise result from hadron colliders, sin(2)theta(lept)(eff) = 0.23148 +/- 0.00033. This result is consistent with, and approaches in precision, the best measurements from electron-positron colliders. The standard model inference of the on-shell electroweak mixing parameter sin(2) theta(W), or equivalently the W-boson mass M-W, using the ZFITTER software package yields sin(2) theta(W) = 0.22324 +/- 0.00033 or equivalently, M-W = 80.367 +/- 0.017 GeV/c(2).

Published by the American Physical Society. The Collider Detector at Fermilab collected a unique sample of jets originating from bottom-quark fragmentation (b-jets) by selecting online proton-antiproton (pp) collisions with a vertex displaced from the pp interaction point, consistent with the decay of a bottom-quark hadron. This data set, collected at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV, and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.4 fb-1, is used to measure the Z-boson production cross section times branching ratio into bb. The number of Z→bb events is determined by fitting the dijet-mass distribution, while constraining the dominant b-jet background, originating from QCD multijet events, with data. The result, σ(pp→Z)×B(Z→bb)=1.11±0.08(stat)±0.14(syst) nb, is the most precise measurement of this process, and is consistent with the standard-model prediction. The data set is also used to search for Higgs-boson production. No significant signal is expected in our data and the first upper limit on the cross section for the inclusive pp→H→bb process at s=1.96 TeV is set, corresponding to 33 times the expected standard-model cross section, or σ=40.6 pb, at the 95% confidence level.
The observation of the $Y(4140)$ structure in $B^\pm\rightarrow J/\psi\,\phi K^\pm$ decays produced in $\bar{p} p $ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96~\TeV$ is reported with a statistical significance greater than 5 standard deviations. A fit to the $J/\psi\,\phi$ mass spectrum is performed assuming the presence of a Breit-Wigner resonance. The fit yields a signal of $19^{+6}_{-5}$ resonance events, and resonance mass and width of $4143.4^{+2.9}_{-3.0}(\mathrm{stat})\pm0.6(\mathrm{syst})~\MeVcc$ and $15.3^{+10.4}_{-6.1}(\mathrm{stat})\pm2.5(\mathrm{syst})~\MeVcc$ respectively. The parameters of this resonance-like structure are consistent with values reported from an earlier CDF analysis.
A measurement of the inclusive production cross section of isolated prompt photons in proton-antiproton collisions at center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$=1.96TeV is presented. The results are obtained using the full Run II data sample collected with the Collider Detector at the Fermilab Tevatron, which corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 9.5fb$^{-1}$. The cross section is measured as a function of photon transverse energy, $E_T^{\gamma}$, in the range 30$ < E_T^{\gamma} <$500GeV and in the pseudorapidity region $|\eta^{\gamma}|<$1.0. The results are compared with predictions from parton-shower Monte Carlo models at leading order in quantum chromodynamics (QCD) and from next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations. The latter show good agreement with the measured cross section.
A search for the direct production of Higgs bosons in the di-tau decay mode is performed with 86.3±3.5 pb−1 of data collected with the Collider Detector at Fermilab during the 1994–1995 data taking period of the Tevatron. We search for events where one tau decays to an electron plus neutrinos and the other tau decays hadronically. We perform a counting experiment and set limits on the cross section for supersymmetric Higgs boson production where tanβ is large and mA is small. For a benchmark parameter space point where mA0=100 GeV/c2 and tanβ=50, we limit the production cross section multiplied by the branching ratio to be less than 77.9 pb at the 95% confidence level compared to the theoretically predicted value of 11.0 pb. This is the first search for Higgs bosons decaying to tau pairs at a hadron collider. CDF Collaboration, CLARK, Allan Geoffrey (Collab.), D'ONOFRIO, Monica (Collab.), WU, Xin (Collab.). Drell-Yan lepton pairs are produced in the process pp̄ → μ+μ− + X through an intermediate γ∗/Z boson. The forward-backward asymmetry in the polar-angle distribution of the μ− as a function of the invariant mass of the μ+μ− pair is used to obtain the effective leptonic determination sin2 θ eff of the electroweak-mixing parameter sin2 θW , from which the value of sin2 θW is derived assuming the standard model. The measurement sample, recorded by the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF), corresponds to 9.2 fb-1 of integrated luminosity from pp̄ collisions at a center-of-momentum energy of 1.96 TeV, and is the full CDF Run II data set. The value of sin2 θ eff is found to be 0.2315 +0.0010, where statistical and systematic uncertainties are combined in quadrature. When interpreted within the context of the standard model using the on-shell renormalization scheme, where sin2 θW = 1 − M2 W /M 2 Z , the measurement yields sin2 θW = 0.2233 +0.0009, or equivalently a W-boson mass of 80.365 +0.047 GeV/c2.ThevalueoftheW −bosonmassisinagreementwithpreviousdeterminationsinelectron− positroncollisionsandattheTevatroncollider. We describe a measurement of the ratio of the cross sections times branching fractions of the B + c meson in the decay mode B + c → J/ψ µ + ν to the B + meson in the decay mode B + → J/ψ K + in proton-antiproton collisions at center-of-mass energy √ s = 1 . 96 TeV. The measurement is based on the complete CDF RunII data set, which comes from an integrated luminosity of 8 . 7 fb − 1 . The ratio of the production cross sections times branching fractions for B + c and B + mesons with momentum transverse to the beam greater than 6 GeV /c and rapidity magnitude smaller than 0.6 is 0 . 211 ± 0 . 012 (stat) +0 . 021 − 0 . 020 (syst). Using the known B + → J/ψ K + branching fraction, the known B + production cross section, and a selection of the predicted B + c → J/ψ µ + ν branching fractions, the range for the total B + c production cross section is estimated.
We present the CDF measurement of the diboson WW and WZ production cross section in a final state consistent with leptonic W decay and jets originating from heavy flavor quarks, based on the full Tevatron Run II dataset. The analysis of the di-jet invariant mass spectrum allows the observation of 3.7 sigma evidence for the combined production processes of either WW or WZ bosons. The different heavy flavor decay pattern of the W and Z bosons and the analysis of the secondary-decay vertex properties allow to independently measure the WW and WZ production cross section in a hadronic final state. The measured cross sections are consistent with the standard model predictions and correspond to signal significances of 2.9 and 2.1 sigma for WW and WZ production, respectively.
