The Long Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) will utilize a beamline located at Fermilab to provide and aim a wide band beam of neutrinos of sufficient intensity and appropriate energy toward DUNE detectors, placed 4850 feet underground at SURF in South Dakota, about 1,300 km away. The primary proton beam (60-120 GeV) will be extracted from the MI-10 section of Fermilab’s Main Injector. Neutrinos are produced after the protons hit a four-interaction length solid target and produce mesons which are subsequently focused by a set of three magnetic horns into a 194 m long helium-filled decay pipe where they decay into muons and neutrinos. The parameters of the facility were determined taking into account the physics goals, spatial and radiological constraints, extensive simulations and the experience gained by operating the NuMI facility at Fermilab. The Beamline facility is designed for initial operation at a proton-beam power of 1.2 MW, with the capability to support an upgrade to about 2.4 MW. LBNF/DUNE obtained CD-1 approval in November 2015 and CD-3a approval in September 2016. We discuss here the Beamline design status and the associated challenges.
The WASA 4π multidetector system, aimed at investigating light meson production in light ion collisions and η meson rare decays at the CELSIUS storage ring in Uppsala is presented. A detailed description of the design, together with the anticipated and achieved performance parameters are given.
We present a measurement of the Standard Model CP violation parameter sin 2φ1 (also known as sin 2β) based on a 10.5 fb −1 data sample collected at the Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e+e− collider. One neutral B meson is reconstructed in the J/ψKS , ψ(2S)KS , χc1KS , ηcKS , J/ψKL or J/ψπ 0 CP -eigenstate decay channel and the flavor of the accompanying B meson is identified from its charged particle decay products. From the asymmetry in the distribution of the time interval between the two B-meson decay points, we determine sin 2φ1 = 0.58 +0.32 −0.34(stat) +0.09 −0.10(syst). (submitted to Phys. Rev. Lett.) We report the first observation of a charmoniumlike state recoiling from the J/psi in the inclusive process e+e- -->J/psi+anything at a mass of (3.943+/-0.006+/-0.006) GeV/c{2}. We also observe the decay of this state into D*D[over ] and determine its intrinsic width to be less than 52 MeV/c{2} at the 90% C.L. These results are obtained from a 357 fb{-1} data sample collected with the Belle detector near the Upsilon(4S) resonance, at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider.
We report the results of searches for B+ ->J/psi eta' K+ and B0 ->J/psi eta' Ks0 decays, using a sample of 388 x 10^6 BBbar pairs collected with the Belle detector at the Upsilon(4S) resonance. No statistically significant signal is found for either of the two decay modes and upper limits for the branching fractions are determined to be B(B+ ->J/psi eta' K+)<8.8 x 10^-5 and B(B0 ->J/psi eta' Ks0)<2.5 x 10^-5 at 90% confidence level.
The inclusive production of D(s), D(0), and J/psi mesons is studied using a 1.86 fb(-1) data sample collected on the Upsilon(5S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. The number of bb events in this Upsilon(5S) data sample is determined. We measure the branching fractions B(Upsilon(5S)-->D(s)X)/2=(23.6+/-1.2+/-3.6)%, B(Upsilon(5S)-->D(0)X)/2=(53.8+/-2.0+/-3.4)%, and B(Upsilon(5S)-->J/psiX)/2=(1.030+/-0.080+/-0.067)%. From the D(s) and D(0) inclusive branching fractions the ratio f(s)=(18.0+/-1.3+/-3.2)% of B(s)(*)B(s)(*) to the total bb quark pair production at the Upsilon(5S) energy is obtained in a model-dependent way.
We study the three-body charmed baryonic decays B-0 ->Sigma(++)(c)p pi(-) and B-0 ->Sigma(0)(c)p pi(+) in the four-body final state B-0 ->Lambda(+)(c)p pi(+)pi(-), using a data sample of 357 fb(-1) accumulated at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider. We measure the branching fractions B(B-0 ->Sigma(c)(2455)(++)p pi(-))=(2.1 +/- 0.2 +/- 0.3 +/- 0.5)x10(-4), B(B-0 ->Sigma(c)(2455)(0)p pi(+))=(1.4 +/- 0.2 +/- 0.2 +/- 0.4)x10(-4) and B(B-0 ->Sigma(c)(2520)(++)p pi(-))=(1.2 +/- 0.1 +/- 0.2 +/- 0.3)x10(-4) with signal significances of 13.1 sigma, 9.4 sigma and 7.1 sigma, respectively. The errors are statistical, systematic, and due to the uncertainty in B(Lambda(+)(c)-> pK(-)pi(+)), respectively. We also set an upper limit B(B-0 ->Sigma(c)(2520)(0)p pi(+))< 0.38x10(-4) at the 90% confidence level. In addition, we obtain a nonresonant branching fraction of (6.4 +/- 0.4 +/- 0.9 +/- 1.7)x10(-4), and a total branching fraction of (11.2 +/- 0.5 +/- 1.4 +/- 2.9)x10(-4) for B-0 ->Lambda(+)(c)p pi(+)pi(-).
We report results of a Dalitz plot analysis of the three-body charmless B0=>K0pi+pi- decay. The analysis is performed with a data sample that contains 388 million BBbar pairs collected near the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e+e- collider. Measurements of branching fractions for the quasi-two-body decays B0=>rho(770)0K0, B0=>f0(980)K0, B0=>K*(892)+pi-, B0=>K*(1430)+pi-, and upper limits on several other quasi-two-body decay modes are reported.
We have measured the branching fractions for the exclusive decay modes B → χc1(2)K(K ∗) using a 140 fb data sample collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e− collider. The measured branching fractions for B+ → χc1K, B0 → χc1K, B0 → χc1K and B+ → χc1K decay modes are (4.5 ± 0.2 ± 0.5) × 10−4, (3.5 ± 0.3 ± 0.5) × 10−4, (3.1 ± 0.3 ± 0.7) × 10−4 and (4.1 ± 0.6 ± 0.9) × 10−4, respectively, where the first error is statistical and the second error is systematic. We do not observe statistically significant signals for the
We report evidence for the exclusive two-body charmless hadronic B meson decay B-->eta'pi, and improved measurements of B-->eta'K. The results are obtained from a data sample of 386x10(6) BB pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance, with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We measure B(B+-->eta'pi+)=[1.76(-0.62)(+0.67)(stat)(-0.14)(+0.15)(syst)]x10(-6) and B(B0-->eta'pi0)=[2.79(-0.96)(+1.02)(stat)(-0.34)(+0.25)(syst)]x10(-6). We also find the ratio of B(B+-->eta'K+)/B(B0-->eta'K0)=1.17+/-0.08(stat)+/-0.03(syst) and measure the direct CP asymmetries for the charged modes.

We report on a search for new resonant states in the process γγ→D¯¯¯D. A candidate C-even charmonium state is observed in the vicinity of 3.93 GeV/c2. The production rate and the angular distribution in the γγ center-of-mass frame suggest that this state is the previously unobserved χ′c2, the 23P2 charmonium state.Received 15 December 2005DOI:https://doi.org/10.1103/PhysRevLett.96.082003©2006 American Physical Society
We report the first observation of ${B}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\chi}}_{c1}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$, a Cabibbo- and color-suppressed decay in a data sample of $386\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{6}$ $B\overline{B}$ events collected at the $\ensuremath{\Upsilon}(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy ${e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ collider. We observe $55\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}10$ signal events with a statistical significance of $6.3\ensuremath{\sigma}$ including systematic uncertainties.
