The Antenor Orrego Private University is a Peruvian private university located in Trujillo, La Libertad Region. The university was named after the Peruvian journalist and political philosopher Antenor Orrego Espinoza..
Eucalyptus adapts easily to the climatic conditions in Peru. This research was carried out in the department of Cajamarca. The objective was to evaluate the influence of different types of substrates (in polyethylene bags, in the open air) on the quality of the seedlings. The design was completely randomized blocks with 15 treatments, four repetitions. The number of leaves, height, and stem base diameter (DBT) were evaluated for four months. The fresh and dry mass of the aerial and root parts were evaluated, as well as quality indicators: Dickson's index, slenderness, aerial part-root part ratio, water balance of the plant and percentage of lignification. Analysis of variance was performed, and the Fisher LSD test. No treatment had the best results for all variables. Treatment L (50 % agricultural land + 50 % black soil) ranked first in number of leaves, aerial fresh weight, total dry weight and aerial dry weight. The G treatment (15 % hill sand + 50 % agricultural land + 35 % black soil) in DBT, root dry weight and Dickson index. There was a significant difference when using river or hill sand only in some cases. There was a high correlation between the number of leaves, and the height and with the fresh and dry total weights; root and aerial, and a high correlation between the height and the fresh and dry total weight; root and aerial, Dickson index and % of lignification.
(1) Background: Clinopodium pulchellum (Kunth) Govaerts (Panizara) is an aromatic Andean medicinal plant traditionally used in Peru to manage nervous disorders, insomnia, and digestive complaints; however, its neuropharmacological properties remain poorly validated. This study aimed to evaluate the anxiolytic- and antidepressant-like effects of C. pulchellum and to characterize its phytochemical profile as supportive evidence. (2) Methods: The essential oil was obtained by hydrodistillation and analyzed using GC-MS and GC-FID. (3) Results: Fifteen volatile compounds were identified based on retention indices and mass spectral data, with β-caryophyllene (22.9%) and linalool (19.1%) as the most representative constituents, while other compounds were tentatively identified. The aqueous extract showed total phenolic and flavonoid contents of 34.15 mg GAE/g and 29.44 mg QE/g, respectively, and moderate antioxidant activity (DPPH = 2.36 mg TE/g; ABTS = 3.33 mg TE/g). In vivo assays revealed that EOCP at 200 mg·kg-1 significantly increased open-arm exploration in the elevated plus maze and reduced immobility time in the CUMS-forced swim test by 37% compared with the stress group, although the effect was lower than that of reference drugs. Molecular docking analysis indicated favorable binding affinities of β-caryophyllene, humulene, and aromandendrene with serotonergic and ion channel targets, while ADMET predictions suggested suitable pharmacokinetic properties. (4) Conclusions: These findings indicate that the observed neuropharmacological effects may be associated with the presence of bioactive terpenoids typical of Lamiaceae, supporting the traditional use of C. pulchellum. However, further studies are required to confirm the identity of uncommon constituents and to elucidate the mechanisms underlying its biological activity.
Background:Transient tachypnoea of the newborn (TTN) is a common cause of early respiratory distress, especially after caesarean delivery. Salbutamol, a β2-agonist, may enhance alveolar fluid clearance and improve outcomes. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the benefits and harms of nebulised salbutamol compared with placebo or standard care in neonates with TTN, through a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials (RCTs). Methods:We conducted a systematic search of five electronic databases and trial registries up to April 2025. Risk of bias was assessed with the Cochrane Risk of Bias 1 tool, and certainty of evidence using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach. Meta-analyses were performed when appropriate. Results:21 RCTs (n=1223) were included. Repeated doses of salbutamol probably reduce hospital stay by 2.3 days (mean difference (MD) -2.3 days, 95% CI -3.2 to -1.4 days; moderate certainty) and a single dose may reduce oxygen therapy duration by 19.4 h (MD -19.4 h, 95% CI -26.0 to -12.9 h; low certainty) and duration of assisted ventilation by 12.7 h (MD -12.7 h, 95% CI -19.6 to -5.7 h; low certainty). Effects on need for mechanical ventilation (risk ratio 0.37, 95% CI 0.07-1.96; very low certainty) and continuous positive airway pressure (risk ratio 0.84, 95% CI 0.59-1.19; very low certainty) were very uncertain. In addition, single dose of salbutamol may reduce tachypnoea duration by 6.6 h (MD -6.6 h, 95% CI -12.6 to -0.7 h; low certainty) and clinical severity scores at 4 and 8 h (MD -3.0 and -3.4 points, respectively; low certainty). Conclusion:Salbutamol shows modest benefits in TTN, particularly in reducing oxygen therapy duration and hospital stay with repeated doses. However, given the low certainty of the evidence for most outcomes, its use should be carefully weighed within each healthcare context. Further high-quality trials are needed.
Melanoma of the rectum is a rare malignancy with an aggressive clinical course, accounting for 4% of all anorectal cancers. This malignancy most commonly affects individuals in their eighth decade of life and presents with nonspecific symptoms, such as rectal bleeding, anal pain, and weight loss. Early detection is challenging because its clinical appearance varies and often mimics that of a polyp, leading to delayed diagnosis and poor prognosis. Surgical management is particularly complex, as most cases are advanced upon diagnosis. We present the case of a 63-year-old woman with a large anorectal mass exhibiting local invasion and metastasis. Biopsy and subsequent palliative abdominoperineal resection confirmed stage IV metastatic anorectal melanoma. Currently, the patient reports improved quality of life.
