Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest malignancies and a leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide. It is often diagnosed at advanced stages, characterized by angiogenesis, metastasis, and resistance to conventional therapies, making it particularly difficult to treat. Therefore, the discovery of safer and more effective therapeutic options is urgently needed. Zingiber officinale var. rubrum known as red ginger is a traditional medicinal plant recognized for its therapeutic properties, particularly its anticancer potential. This present work utilized an extensive in silico methodology to assess the antiangiogenic potential of red ginger bioactive compounds by targeting VEGFA, a key regulator of angiogenesis. Drug-likeness screening, toxicity prediction, permeability analysis, and biological activity profiling were used to identify lead compounds. Enrichment analysis revealed involvement in cancer-associated pathways such as PI3K-Akt, MAPK, Ras, and Rap1. Molecular docking and dynamics simulations showed that apigenin, (+)-catechin, and (-)-epicatechin bind effectively to VEGFA, with performance comparable to or better than the reference drug Sunitinib. Apigenin demonstrated the highest complex stability, followed by (+)-catechin and (-)-epicatechin. These findings highlight the inhibition. Additional lab-based experiments are needed to validate their molecular mechanisms and clinical potential.
Xanthosoma undipes K. Koch (Beneng taro) leaves are rich in bioactive compounds with reported antioxidant and anticancer potential. This study evaluated the antioxidant activity of ethanol extracts from Beneng taro leaves cultivated in three locations, identified active compounds using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), and assessed their anticancer potential through in silico analysis. Extraction was performed with 96% ethanol, followed by phytochemical screening, quantification of total flavonoids and phenolics, and antioxidant evaluation using the DPPH assay. LC-MS/MS identified several bioactive phenolic and flavonoid compounds, including quercetin, isorhamnetin, hispidulin, oleocanthal and cyclovalone, as key contributors to antioxidant activity. Leaves from high-altitude Cisarua (TB-1) had the highest flavonoid (94.49 ± 1.61 mg QE/g) and phenolic (97.35 ± 1.74 mg GAE/g) contents, with the strongest antioxidant activity (IC50 = 42.96 μg/mL). Drug-likeness screening indicated favourable pharmacokinetic properties for several compounds. Molecular docking revealed strong binding affinities of quercetin, isorhamnetin, hispidulin, cochliophilin A, cyclovalone and oleocanthal to Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog (KRAS), a key oncogenic protein regulating cell growth, division and mutation, suggesting potential anticancer effects. These findings indicate that cultivation at higher altitudes enhances bioactive compound levels and antioxidant potential. Future studies should isolate active compounds, validate their effects in vivo, optimise cultivation practices, and explore their development into functional foods or nutraceuticals.
Background:Black oncom biscuit contains contains vitamin B6 and that is a derivative product of black oncom (peanut meal fermented by Rhizopus oligosporus). Aim:Thisstudy analyzed the effect of black oncom subtitution (black oncom flour and black oncom biscuit) on body weight (BW), feed intake, growth rate, and vitamin B6 status in rats with vitamin B6 deficiency. Methods:Male rats were randomly selected into five groups and it respectively received five treatments which contained 3 g/kg feed of methionine, i.e., normal diet as control (C group), vitamin B6 deficient (≤ 0.6 mg/kg) diet (D group), vitamin B6 deficient (≤ 0.6 mg/kg) diet with pyridoxine HCl (7 mg/kg) substitution (DP), vitamin B6 deficient (≤ 0.6 mg/kg) diet with 15.05 g/kg feed of black oncom flour substitution (DOF), and vitamin B6 deficient (≤ 0.6 mg/kg) diet with 76.89 g/kg feed of black oncom biscuit substitution (DOB) for 7 weeks. Results:The BW, feed intake, and growth rate of the DOF and DOB groups were not different from those of the C group, whereas the D and feed intake were significantly reduced in the D group compared to the C group. Plasma pyridoxal 5' phosphate levels were decreased in the D group, and increased in the DOF and DOB groups (p > 0.05). Plasma homocysteine was increased in the D and DOF groups, but decreased in the DOB group (p > 0.05). Conclusion:This study demonstrated the potential benefits of black oncom in maintaining BW, growth rate, and vitamin B6 status.
The misuse of attorney immunity as a corporate enabler in money laundering threatens Indonesia’s macroeconomic stability, causing inflation, significant fiscal losses, and hindered asset recovery. This study aims to identify the root causes of legal contradictions, analyze the systemic impacts of this abuse, and formulate a regulatory harmonization model. Employing a normative legal methodology, the research utilizes hierarchical regulatory examination, philosophical conflict deconstruction, and comparative studies. The findings reveal that the contradiction between absolute attorney immunity (Law No. 18/2003) and the audit authority of the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center/PPATK (Law No. 8/2010) creates a legal vacuum exploited to reject audits of suspicious transactions. Furthermore, non-compliance with FATF Recommendation 22 risks designating Indonesia as a high-risk jurisdiction, potentially triggering global financial isolation and increased borrowing costs. To mitigate the symbiosis of vulnerability between weak non-bank sector compliance and legal shielding, urgent regulatory harmonization is required. The study concludes that implementing “break-glass immunity” and accessory liability clauses is crucial to prevent legal practitioners from functioning as facilitators of illicit financial flows, thereby protecting Indonesia’s economic sovereignty.
