This research explores the development and innovative implementation of an Arduino Uno-based Geiger-Muller counter (GMC) as a physics learning tool designed to enhance students’ critical thinking skills. The aim was to address the gap in effective educational media in teaching radioactivity materials. This research used the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation (ADDIE) model, which includes the analysis, design, implementation development, and evaluation stages. The sample of this study involved 165 students at University of PGRI Pontianak, using a pre-experimental design with one pretest-posttest group. Validation by experts and feedback from students confirmed the high validity and effectiveness of the media, with significant improvements seen in critical thinking indicators such as evaluation, analysis, interpretation, and inference. The use of real-world materials, including red Borneo agate testing, provided a practical context that enriched the learning experience. Although there was no control group, the findings suggest that integrating hands-on technology-based tools into physics education can significantly improve students’ critical thinking skills. This study contributes to the growing literature on educational innovation, offering practical solutions to improve critical thinking in science education through interactive and contextually relevant learning media.
Diabetic Foot Ulcers remain a major cause of morbidity and hospitalisation in Malaysia, and primary care providers play a central role in prevention and wound management. At Penampang Health Clinic, dressing visits increased from 1,991 in 2020 to 4,671 in 2023, yet no formal wound care training was conducted between 2019 and 2022, creating gaps in clinical competency. This cross sectional study assessed the level of knowledge and practice on diabetic wound care among 50 healthcare providers consisting of Assistant Medical Officers and Staff Nurses. A validated questionnaire measured knowledge (maximum score 15) and practice (maximum score 45) using descriptive statistical analysis. Participants demonstrated moderate knowledge (12.5±2.1) and moderate practice (35.8±3.4). Lower scores were seen among less experienced staff and those with diploma-level qualifications. These findings indicate the need for structured continuous professional development and standardised wound care training to improve diabetic foot management in the primary care setting.
Oral hygiene problems remain a significant health challenge among elementary school children in Indonesia, one of which is measured using the Oral Hygiene Index Simplified (OHI-S). Dental health education using calendar media is considered effective in improving children's understanding and practices related to oral hygiene. This study aimed to determine the effect of dental health education using calendar media on OHI-S scores among 5th-grade students at SDN 19 Pontianak Utara. A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach was employed involving 56 students selected through total sampling. OHI-S assessments were conducted before and after the three-week educational intervention. The results showed that only 2 students (3.6%) were categorized as having good OHI-S scores before the intervention, whereas after the intervention the number increased to 38 students (67.9%), indicating a significant improvement in oral hygiene. These findings demonstrate that calendar media can serve as an engaging and easy-to-understand educational tool that enhances children's toothbrushing behavior. In conclusion, dental health education using calendar media is proven effective in reducing OHI-S scores and can be recommended as a supportive strategy for school-based oral health programs.
