The article explores the transformational processes in the economies of the European Union in the context of new geostrategic realities caused by global challenges, the disruption of traditional logistics chains, and increasing dependence on external resources. Special attention is given to the consequences of prolonged deindustrialization and offshoring, during which a significant share of industrial production was relocated outside Europe, primarily to countries with lower production costs, including former colonies. The paper highlights a new perspective on this trend — the concept of recolonization, which refers to the growing economic and industrial dependence of developed countries on regions they once dominated. In the face of disrupted supply chains and mounting global instability, European countries are increasingly recognizing the need for reindustrialization, greater self-sufficiency, and diversification of supply sources. However, the process of reshoring industrial production within the EU is constrained by several factors, including limited resources, strict environmental regulations, labor shortages, and evolving societal values. In this context, the author proposes nearshoring as an alternative strategy — relocating production to neighboring countries that are geographically, economically, and politically close to the EU. The study pays particular attention to Ukraine’s potential as a promising platform for nearshoring investment. The author argues that Ukraine possesses a range of competitive advantages compared to other Eastern European countries, especially in the context of post-war reconstruction and integration into the European industrial space. Nonetheless, the realization of this potential is contingent on the stabilization of the country and the cessation of military conflict. The article emphasizes that EU support for Ukraine is not only crucial for restoring peace and international law, but also instrumental in resolving a number of economic and security issues within the European Union itself.

Given the growing significance of global value chains in shaping national economies, the paper investigates the impact of countries’ participation in these chains on female entrepreneurship and the role of women’s empowerment in mediating this impact at the macro level. We use macro-panel data for all 27 countries of the European Union. Based on panel regressions, our results show the negative effect of both backward and forward global value chain (GVC) participation on women’s entrepreneurship, implying that the extent of a country’s participation in the international division of labour acts as an obstacle for women to become entrepreneurs. Moreover, women’s empowerment interacts with GVC linkages in shaping female entrepreneurship by reducing the adverse effects of GVCs. The mechanism of interaction differs between the two types of GVC participation. Women’s empowerment interacts with backward GVC participation by mitigating its negative effects on women’s entrepreneurship. In contrast, its interaction with forward GVC participation reverses the initial relationship, making forward GVC participation beneficial for women’s entrepreneurship. This study contributes to the theories of entrepreneurship and international business by adding a gender perspective to discussions on globalisation.
The research is devoted to provide understanding on how different macroeconomic and behavioral factors impact asset prices dynamics and potentially possess predictive power for future returns. Utilizing a multi-factor regression analysis, the study investigates the influence of recession probability, inflation surprises, investor sentiment, and yield curve slope on the returns of 35 diverse asset classes across varying investment horizons (3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, and 5 years). The findings reveal that the chosen proxy indicators effectively capture the influence of these factors, with predictability of asset returns generally increasing with longer investment horizons. Furthermore, the analysis demonstrates that different asset classes exhibit varying sensitivities to the identified factors. This research provides valuable insights for investors seeking to manage risk and make informed asset allocation decisions, leading to more efficient portfolio management.
