Abstract This study examines the relationship between the type of bibliometric paper in the field of management (mapping vs. assessment) and its subsequent citation impact, while controlling for collaboration, documen type, and paper length. Using a negative binomial regression model, our findings highlight significant associations among these variables. Notably, assessment papers receive fewer citations than mapping papers, and co-authored papers receive more citations than their single-authored counterparts. Additionally, articles attract fewer citations than reviews, while longer papers tend to receive more citations. To mitigate selection bias, propensity score matching was conducted, confirming the robustness of the relationship between paper type and citation impact in a balanced dataset. The scholarly implications include more informed publication strategies and research design choices. While certain limitations exist, these results open avenues for future research, spanning longitudinal analyses, qualitative explorations, and multidisciplinary investigations, thus advancing the comprehension of factors influencing citation impact in scholarly literature.
This study aims to characterize the scientific output of the Revista de Estudios y Experiencias en Educaci & oacute;n, indexed in the open-access platforms Scientific Electronic Library Online and Redalyc, through a descriptive bibliometric analysis. A total of 661 articles published between 2002 and 2024 were examined, using indicators such as keywords, authorship, country of origin, language, research design, subject areas, and citation indexes. Data were systematized in spreadsheets and complemented with metrics extracted using Publish or Perish, from platforms such as Scientific Electronic Library Online, Redalyc, Google Scholar, and OpenAlex. Key findings include an average of 25.03 authors per issue, 6,112 citations across multiple databases, predominance of Spanish (94.95%), and international collaboration led by Spain, Brazil, and Mexico. The most frequent keywords were "Higher Education", "Education", and "Information and Communication Technologies (ICT)". The results indicate that the journal demonstrates continuous growth in production and citations, strengthening its relevance within the Ibero-American open-access publishing ecosystem.
This study analyzes, from a historical-discursive perspective, the processes of institutional memory construction and the mechanisms of silencing present in the technical reports of the Benedito Leite Public Library from 1915 to 1919. This is an exploratory and descriptive documentary research with a qualitative approach. The analysis was conducted based on the guidelines of content analysis, with predefined thematic categories. Between 1915 and 1919, Benedito Leite Public Library reports progressively construct an institutional narrative that oscillates between the demand for recognition and symbolic consecration. These documents highlight the appreciation of the collection as cultural heritage and the library's self-affirmation as asocial agent. At the same time, they reveal dynamics of institutionalized forgetting, such as document loss, physical degradation, and the absence of preservation policies. The memory projected in these reports coexists with silences and selections that shape the collection as a space of symbolic dispute. Thus, the construction of institutional memory is not neutral but rather the result of discursive strategies aimed at asserting the relevance of Benedito Leite Public Library in the face of challenges related to preservation and historical continuity.
Several types of data are used and generated in citizen science projects, and the use of such data may be subject to different legal frameworks governing collective and individual rights, including intellectual property rights, personal data protection, and the use of traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions. Through bibliographic and documentary research, this article aims to investigate the main legal challenges related to the use and governance of diverse types of data in citizen science projects, considering regulations concerning both individual and collective rights. An analysis of the legal issues mentioned in the citizen science literature reveals a predominant focus on discussions regarding personal data protection, privacy, and intellectual property. In contrast, issues related to the protection of traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions receive little attention. Other aspects highlight the inadequacy of current legislation in addressing the ways in which knowledge is produced, used, and shared in scientific research in general and in citizen science in particular.
This study analyzes the subject representation from a theoretical and conceptual perspective. The study aims to present the fundamental principles of the Brazilian current of subject representation and to explain it in its own terms. It is based on descriptive and qualitative research. The research draws on a review of the Brazilian literature on subject representation and related topics, primarily from articles published in Library and Information Science journals and conference proceedings. The study provides evidence of the emergence of a Brazilian current of subject representation, grounded in the historical development of the concept in the country, and discusses its essential characteristics with regard to the processes, products, and tools associated with it.
It discusses performance art as an informative phenomenon that maintains conceptual relationships with the notions of semiophore and the fabrication of the immortal. It addresses the definitions of event, information, and evidence brought by Michael Buckland; the meanings of performance art proposed by Renato Cohen, Amelia Jones, RoseLee Goldberg, Kristine Stiles and Peggy Phelan, the definition of semiophore proposed by Krzysztof Pomian, the concepts of memory developed by Pierre Nora, Maurice Halbwachs, Jacques Le Goff and Paul Ricoeur, and the idea of the fabrication of the immortal presented by Renata Abreu. It analyzes performance art as an event-an informative phenomenon, defined within the scope of the intangible (information-as-knowledge), which can generate products recoverable in information systems (information-as-thing), that do not replace the work but represent the traces of its materiality. It also discusses the concept of semiophore and the paradox that the approach presents in the field of arts and in the fabrication of the immortal. It concludes that performance art is placed outside the circuit of utility, acts at a symbolic level, presents multiple meanings and exists only through the presence and action of the artist. This artistic manifestation denies the permanence represented by the object, realizing itself as a work only in the present and, therefore, presenting challenges for the processes of memory creation and preservation.
The migratory process is a global phenomenon arising from multiple variables, which generates conflicts between recipients and migrants. Xenophobia is a discriminatory process characterized as a type of disrespect and/or intolerance towards the places of origin, accents, cultures, religions or ethnicities of people who migrate. This study aims to analyze the mobilization of the concept of xenophobia in Ex-President Bolsonaro's discourse and that of his like-minded followers (known as bolsonaristas), based on the prototypical categorization theory. This is an exploratory and descriptive study with a qualitative approach, grounded in bibliographical and documentary research. The corpus that forms the basis of the data analysis is composed of ten statements given by Ex-President Bolsonaro while he was a congressman and later as president, during public interviews referring to the people of the Brazil's Northeast. The stages of data collection, processing, and analysis were conducted using content analysis techniques. The study characterizes the idea of regional xenofobia and contains the assumptions of the classical and prototypical model of categorization. It identifies the main characteristics of the concept of xenofobia according to the classical theory and articulates the notion of belonging with the possibilities pointed out in the prototypical theory. It discusses the belonging of the concepts attributed to the northeastern people in the bolsonarista discourse to the category of xenophobia, in the light of prototypical categorization theory.
Changes in publishers' business models challenge both the economics and open access to literature within the scientific communication system. To identify the reading and publishing behaviors of Brazilian researchers in the field of Physics in Springer/Nature journals, the following objectives were established: (a) to categorize the journals in which the authors publish; (b) to record the authors' institutional affiliations; (c) to identify the research funders; and (d) to indicate the journals most frequently cited in the articles' reference lists. The research follows an exploratory design with bibliometric techniques, and data were collected from the Web of Science using Physics articles published in 2023 and their references. The results show a high concentration of publications in a few titles: 730 articles (73% of the total) were distributed across 13 Springer/Nature journals with high impact factors, 40% of which were published in two open-access titles with no processing fees. The authors are concentrated in five Brazilian institutions with ten or more records and exhibit strong international collaboration with authors from 64 institutions across 27 countries. The articles identified 226 funding agencies from 27 countries, including nine from Brazil. A total of 22,894 references were analyzed, with the most frequent titles belonging to the American Physical Society. The findings indicate that a potential agreement with Springer/Nature would not include the journals in which Physics authors most frequently publish or cite. Agreements with a single publisher are insufficient to meet the demands of a field that also involves diamond journals, Article Processing Charges, and subscription-based contracts.
Museums, in addition to being spaces for conservation and exhibitions, play a social role that brings them closer to their environment and helps raise awareness about the challenges of today's world. This research focuses on the Sustainable Development Goals, specifically on the communication shared by the main Spanish and Brazilian museums on "X" (formerly "Twitter"), regarding the five thematic axes of the United Nations program: People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace, and Partnerships, over the course of 2022. To this end, a content analysis was conducted on a sample of ten critical cases in which the composition, impact and conceptual dimension of the publications appearing in their respective official accounts were examined. The results reveal that the messages alluding to the Sustainable Development Goals are committed to multimodality, present a strong visual component, and incline clearly towards the "people" dimension. Likewise, it was found that the number of followers on "X" stimulates the interest of museums in addressing the Sustainable Development Goals in their digital communication..
Open Science is understood here as an ecosystem that brings together movements that share the same perspective of openness, transparency, and collaboration in science. In line with this perspective, the Latin American region has a tradition of adopting Open Science practices and initiatives to enhance its scientific infrastructure. Thus, the main objective of this research is to analyze Latin American scientific publications on Open Science. More specifically, it aims to investigate the appropriation of Open Science facets by Latin American countries and fields of knowledge, in addition to comparing the characteristics of their indexing between a regional and an international database. With a descriptive, documentary-bibliographic, and quantitative methodological approach, the corpus consists of 1,687 scientific articles with at least one author affiliated with Latin American institutions indexed in the Scientific Electronic Library Online and Web of Science databases. Regarding Open Science themes, the facet of Citizen Science was the most frequent in the corpus (28.47%), followed by Open Access (23.47%). The term "Open Science" itself accounts for only 9% of the analyzed articles. Observing the facets of Open Science in relation to the fields of knowledge, Technology (32.62%) and Life Sciences & Biomedicine (31.68%) are the highlights. When analyzing the databases separately, Web of Science indexes articles mainly from the Citizen Science facet, and Scientific Electronic Library Online indexes those from Open Access.
The debate regarding the relationship between science museums and schools on the global stage began to incorporate reflections on problem-posing education during the 1950s and 1960s. However, in Brazil, it was only from the 1980s onward that this partnership began to aim at fostering citizenship and social inclusion. A group of scientists joined forces to rethink how these spaces interacted, leading to changes that resulted in collaborative actions. Among this group, Maurice Bazin stands out-a science communicator with a strong interest in popularizing science as a means to promote political and social change within society. Seeking to understand Bazin's contributions in this context, this study aims to analyze his written work from 1970 to 2009 regarding the partnership between science museums and formal education. A qualitative bibliographic study was conducted using both online databases and physical archives, resulting in eight texts that were analyzed through the content analysis methodology. From the category "Museum-School Relationship," significant changes were identified during the 1980s and 1990s in the way science museums engaged with formal education. These institutions began to incorporate the active participation of science teachers and started offering continuing education courses with a reflective nature, moving beyond the traditional curricular content approach-an outcome of Bazin's influence, aligned with the deschooling movement of Brazilian museums at the time. This study thus underscores the importance of continuing efforts to strengthen and consolidate partnerships between science museums and schools.
Understood as a place of safekeeping, the Archive has its essential role in custody, especially with regard to the protection of permanent records. Brazilian laws and standards establish guidelines for the custody, treatment and preservation of these documents, but they run into difficulties caused by the lack of consolidated archival policies and the low supervisory competence of the responsible authorities. In this context, the discussion about shared custodygains relevance, especially because of the adoption of cloud computing services. Through a literature review that addresses the trajectory of the concept of custody in Archival Science - from the custodial and post-custodial currents to current digital preservation models - we analyze how custody remains central to the guarantee of authenticity, while at the same time it needs to be reinforced by the contracts that regulate the relationship between producers, preservers and service providers. We conclude that, despite the transformations in the supports and preservation environments, custody maintains a preponderant role in the archives, making it necessary to have a clear definition of responsibilities to ensure the protection and authenticity of digital records.
This study focuses on YouTube channels of Brazilian public academic libraries. It begins with the question: How is the management of YouTube channels configured for public academic libraries? The objectives are to: describe the motivations behind the creation of these channels, understand the management of these YouTube channels, and describe the challenges and opportunities in managing them. The research is characterized as exploratory, descriptive, and employs a mixed-methods approach. The sample consists of 16 library channels or Library Systems with 1,000 subscribers or more, linked to 16 federal and state universities. A form composed of descriptive and objective questions was subsequently sent via email to the library contacts in January 2024. For the literature review, searches were conducted in the title and subject fields of the following databases: Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Web of Science, Scopus, EBSCO, Base de Dados em Ci & ecirc;ncia da Informa & ccedil;& atilde;o (BRAPCI), applying the search string (YouTube AND (biblioteca OR librar*)) without language, document typology, or period restrictions. Additionally, a search was conducted on Google Scholar. Despite the variety of content offered by the channels, including tutorials, events, lectures, and promotional content, there are still challenges to be addressed. One highlighted point is the need for more structured planning in content production and dissemination, aiming to more effectively meet user demands, increase engagement, and provide a deeper analysis of statistics to guide more assertive management decisions.
Citizen science enables ordinary citizens to actively participate in research. Thus, the objective of this article is to analyze Social Science projects registered on the Citizen Science Platform, developed by the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology, based on the 10 principles of citizen science created by the European Citizen Science Association. A dialogue was established with epistemography, incorporating a critical and inclusive perspective on knowledge through qualitative and descriptive research. The results show that the projects contribute to the democratization of knowledge, valuing citizen involvement, collaborative scientific production, and transparency in results. Therefore, it is inferred that the purposes of citizen science align with epistemography, as well as promote social engagement and knowledge inclusion, offering a participatory research model that can inspire other initiatives in similar contexts.
Innovation has been a subject of study within Information Science, manifesting itself across various domains of knowledge and through diverse theoretical approaches. This study examines how innovation has been conceptualized and addressed in dissertations and theses defended in Brazilian Graduate Programs in Information Science. The primary objective was to map scientific production on the subject, aiming to identify: (a) the concept of innovation adopted in the research; (b) the methodological approaches employed; (c) the bibliography used to build the theoretical framework; and (d) the network of cited works. Employing a descriptive and exploratory methodology, the study used Systematic Literature Mapping as the research method, based on searches conducted in the CAPES portal and the Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations. Initially, 498 documents were identified, of which 72 met the inclusion criteria-47 master's dissertations and 25 doctoral theses-highlighting the relevance and diversity of the conceptualizations of innovation in the Brazilian context. The results map the concepts and approaches related to innovation, emphasizing three central axes-epistemological, historical, and economic-industrial-that underpin the phenomenon. It is concluded that innovation represents a theme present in the research agendas of Information Science, founded on the primacy of information and knowledge as essential elements in the inventive process preceding the emergence of innovations.
The purpose of this work is to present a bibliometric analysis about the guidelines, methods, techniques, and automatic tools for web accessibility evaluation in the scientific production indexed in Web of Science and Scopus. In order to establish an approximation on the evolution and general features of scientific production on this topic, we analyzed the totality of the production registered in the main collection of Web of Science and Scopus up to the year 2024, a total of 403 records, considering productivity indicators, visibility and impact indicators, and collaboration indicators. In addition, we analyzed abstracts, titles and authors' keywords. Main results showed that web accessibility evaluation methods contemplated the need to combine manual inspection and automatic evaluation tools. However, the most used method has been automatic evaluation tools. Results also shown a high percentage in the dissemination of scientific production on this topic in academic and scientific events, under the authorship and academic institutions majority from the United States, Spain and United Kingdom, and publishers mostly from the United States. These results show the growing interest in a relatively new research topic centered in a geographic area with a prominent role in the study of this discipline at a scientific level.
Abstract Records Management ensures that knowledge accumulated over time is maintained, retrieved, and transferred, capturing tacit knowledge and transforming it into formal documents, thus constituting a solid basis for organizational development. In a reciprocal way, Knowledge Management benefits Records Management by sharing the best practices and successful innovations, thereby improving the maintenance, accessibility, and use of documents within organizations. This article aims to investigate how the relationship between Records Management and knowledge Management contributes to organizational development, focusing on the alignment of these two fields in the organizational context. An exploratory approach was used as the methodology, beginning with a literature review that identifies the converging points of these two management models, which are the objects of this study. The results indicate an alignment that highlights the reciprocal and fruitful contributions between these two management models for organizations. This finding was confirmed by a bibliographic review on both fields, covering the sources available to the authors. This research concludes that both fields can benefit each other and drive organizational development.
