
In the context of open science and the rapid development of digital scholarly communication, official journal websites and English-language web pages have become essential platforms for international dissemination, academic visibility, and compliance with global publishing standards. This study aims to investigate the current status of official website construction among Chinese and international medical journals, identify existing gaps in website standardization and international communication, and propose practical strategies to facilitate the internationalization of Chinese medical journals. Using June 2025 as the reference time point, the study was conducted involving 135 medical journals divided into five groups: Peking University Core-indexed general medical journals (Group A), non-core medical university journals (Group B), non-core general medical journals (Group C), important international databases-indexed domestic general medical journals (Group D), and Web of Science-indexed international medical journals (Group E). A quantitative evaluation framework comprising 32 indicators was established to assess website quality across three dimensions: basic journal information and website functions, copyright and open access (OA) policies, and publication ethics and research integrity. Each journal website was systematically evaluated using a standardized scoring system, enabling comparisons among different journal categories. The results demonstrated a clear hierarchical pattern in website standardization, ranking as follows: Group E u0026gt; Group D u0026gt; Group A u0026gt; Group B u0026gt; Group C. Among domestic comprehensive Chinese medical journals, 45.3% lacked official English-language web pages, while nearly 60% of the existing English web pages were inconsistent with their Chinese counterparts. Compared with international journals, domestic journals showed substantial deficiencies in the disclosure of OA policies, copyright statements, publication ethics, artificial intelligence-generated content (AIGC) policies, and peer review transparency. Significant differences were also observed among different categories of domestic journals in the above aspects. Furthermore, although the proportion of domestic journals indexed in major international databases remained considerably lower than that of international journals, some leading domestic journals had adopted English-only figures and tables or bilingual presentation formats to improve accessibility for international readers, reflecting an emerging trend toward international-oriented publishing practices. Based on these findings, this study suggests that the internationalization of official websites for Chinese medical journals should evolve beyond basic website construction toward transparent governance, standardized publishing practices, and effective global communication. A phased development strategy combining standardized website infrastructure with progressive content internationalization is recommended. Priority should be given to establishing comprehensive English-language web pages with complete consistency between Chinese and English content, while aligning website policies with international publishing standards and database requirements by clearly disclosing copyright and OA policies, publication ethics, AIGC guidelines, and peer review procedures. In addition, developing journal clusters or shared publishing platforms could improve efficiency and reduce the costs of standardized website construction. The integration of artificial intelligence technologies for bilingual publishing, real-time website translation, and multilingual content management, together with the development of independent publishing platforms and multimedia communication networks, may further strengthen the international dissemination capacity and global influence of Chinese medical journals.
In recent years, with the in-depth implementation of the Youth Student Reading Initiative, adolescent reading has transcended mere knowledge acquisition to become a pivotal and systemic undertaking aimed at inheriting the Chinese cultural lineage, enhancing national soft power, and building a strong socialist culture and a strong education system. As providers of high-quality content and guides for mainstream values, youth-themed publishing has emerged as a key carrier and essential safeguard for implementing the Youth Student Reading Initiative. Taking as case studies the key titles selected for the annual catalogue of key theme publications of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee from 2020 to 2024, this study examines the current development of youth-themed publishing. The findings reveal the following characteristics in its development: First, the number of selected topics shows an upward trend; Second, there is an increase in collaborative publishing projects; Third, a growing number of publishing entities are entering the competition; Fourth, the scope of content themes has expanded significantly; Fifth, content formats are undergoing continuous innovation. Concurrently, the study identifies several deep-seated problems and challenges: First, a deficiency in original content creation; Second, insufficient integration of digital technologies; Third, a shortage of specialized professionals; Fourth, impending shifts in demographic structure; Fifth, prominent shortcomings in international dissemination. These issues should not be viewed as u201Cstumbling blocksu201D to development; rather, they constitute critical thresholds that must be crossed to achieve high-quality growth. The 15th Five-Year Plan period (2026u20132030) marks a crucial stage for building a modern socialist country in all respects and a window of opportunity for the high-quality development of theme publishing. As the Youth Student Reading Initiative deepens, higher demands are being placed on youth-themed publishing. This study proposes five pathways for its high-quality development: First, precise topic selection and planning to accurately align with national development needs and the specific demands of young audiences; Second, modernized content presentation that bridges the gap with youth aesthetics through emotional resonance, content adaptation, and technological empowerment; Third, professionalization of editorial and creative teams capable of grasping the cognitive patterns and developmental characteristics of young readers; Fourth, integrated promotion and services that provide comprehensive coverage across all reading scenarios; Fifth, refined international communication strategies that use youth reading as a cultural nexus to proactively engage with the world, deepen international cooperation, and tell Chinau2019s stories well to young audiences worldwide. The study provides a reference for the high-quality development of youth-themed publishing during the 15th Five-Year Plan period and for building a strong socialist culture and a strong education system.

In 2025, China's domestic book retail market reached a total print-run revenue of 110.4 billion yuan, representing a year-on-year drop of 2.24%. By contrast, publishing cultural and creative products achieved remarkable market expansion. The surging cultural derivative revenue of Shanghai Book Fair and viral literary peripherals such as Lu Xun-themed merchandise prove that publishing cultural creations have stepped out of scattered pilot attempts and entered a new phase of large-scale, branded operation. Even so, the sector is plagued by prominent bottlenecks including homogenized product forms, lengthy development cycles and monotonous marketing strategies. Fundamentally, traditional development modes relying on manual creation and linear copyright licensing cannot satisfy modern consumers' demands for personalization, experiential consumption and rapid iteration, failing to form a closed loop covering IP content excavation, product implementation and long-term monetization. Driven by the national "AI Plus" initiative set out in the country's development plans, generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) provides innovative technical approaches to tackle these industrial obstacles. This article elaborates on how GenAI acts as an innovation engine for publishing cultural creations across three layers. In content production, GenAI converts conventional linear workflows into collaborative brainstorming, lowering time and technical thresholds for multi-modal derivatives including audio books, dynamic posters and immersive interactive works. In marketing, big data profiling and digital human interaction transform extensive mass publicity into personalized targeted distribution, fostering lasting emotional connections between audiences and book IPs. In industrial collaboration, GenAI eliminates cross-media technical barriers to build integrated product matrices combining physical goods, digital assets and offline immersive spaces. Nevertheless, GenAI brings hidden risks termed "reconstruction myths". Shallow technical application weakens creators' subjectivity and dilutes cultural connotations; algorithmic recommendations create filter bubbles and cut off profound emotional resonance between readers and texts; insufficient industrial governance results in ambiguous copyright ownership and unequal resource allocation, with large tech giants and publishing groups dominating core industrial resources while small and medium publishers get marginalized. Centered on value creation, this research puts forward a three-pronged development framework. Generative value facilitates in-depth human-machine synergy by integrating algorithmic explicit knowledge and editors' tacit cultural experience. Relational value constructs embodied immersive reading scenarios to break algorithmic narrowness and restore deep textual communication. Governance value introduces traceable blockchain copyright registration, revenue-sharing industrial alliances and impartial public evaluation mechanisms to balance commercial gains and cultural public interests. Ultimately, GenAI is supposed to assist cultural inheritance and in-depth reading instead of merely boosting production efficiency, enabling publishing cultural creations to shoulder the responsibility of passing down civilizations amid digital transformation.
This study examines the paradigm shift in Chinese web literature intellectual property(IP)production,driven by rapid advances in Artificial Intelligence Generated Content(AIGC).Grounded in Henry Jenkins'"Convergence Culture"theory and Actor-Network Theory(ANT),the research conceptualizes AIGC not merely as a passive tool,but as a pivotal"actant"that propels web literature from a"human-interaction"model(Convergence 2.0)to a"human-machine collaborative system"(Convergence 3.0).This study asks:How does AIGC reshape the narrative production and power structures of web literature IPs?Using evolutionary case analysis,this study traces the transformation across three stages by analyzing the practices of leading platforms.It constructs and validates a dynamic narrative workflow model—trigger-generation-screening-feedback—Stage 1,represented by Tomato Novel,illustrates a data-driven workflow where behavioral metrics construct a"database authority,"gradually transforming authors into"data product managers"through algorithmic governance.Stage 2,exemplified by Yuewen's"Miaobi"model,introduces AI-generated creation,enabling generative exploration while risking the dilution of artistic individuality and the erosion of textual"aura"through algorithmic standardization.Stage 3,conceptualized through Zhihu Salted Fish,envisions a fused data-AI intelligent workflow characterized by a"diagnosis-generation closed loop,"where extreme algorithmic centralization paradoxically coexists with maximal democratization of user participation.The core findings reveal that this evolutionary shift establishes a radically new mechanism of"narrative management,"marking a fundamental departure from traditional static"work management."This transition manifests across three dimensions:the management object shifts from a closed text to an open,expandable"narrative system"(comprising narrative databases,generation engines,and multimodal interfaces);the management process transforms from a linear assembly line to a dynamic,real-time collaborative network;and the management goal migrates from delivering a finite product to sustainably operating an IP narrative ecology and scaling personalized experiences.Consequently,this technological and structural upheaval necessitates a historic reconstruction of human labor within the publishing industry.The traditional web novel editor must transition from a passive"gatekeeper of knowledge"into a more proactive"narrative engineer."To operate effectively in this AIGC-mediated environment,narrative engineers must master four core competencies:"architectural competency"to design self-consistent,expansive narrative universes;"prompting competency"to translate abstract aesthetic demands into precise machine-executable instructions;"data competency"to interpret algorithmic metrics and optimize narrative iterations;and"integration competency"to seamlessly stitch AI-generated fragments with human creativity,ensuring final artistic coherence.Ultimately,this study contributes a meso-theoretical framework bridging convergence theory and digital publishing practice.It offers strategic pathways for publishing institutions—shifting from product delivery to ecological operation,restructuring organizational workflows,and cultivating interdisciplinary"narrative management"talents—while highlighting future research directions in narrative ethics and cognitive mechanisms of human-machine co-creation.
Political parties play a central and irreplaceable role in a country's political life as the core force leading national development and guiding social progress. The construction of party images through visual design constitutes not only a key component of the Communist Party of China's public and international image in the new era, but also a core issue in national image theory, attracting growing scholarly attention. As authoritative carriers sponsored by Party organizations to publicize CPC propositions and concepts, party journals are tasked with interpreting the Party's innovative theories, conveying its lines, principles and policies, and guiding social public opinion. Their coversu2014key "visual windows" for projecting the Party's imageu2014carry distinct political, functional, and aesthetic attributes, and thus play a far-reaching role in shaping and disseminating the Party's image and building public recognition and identity. Current scholarship on party images concentrates primarily in political science and communication studies, focusing on theoretical connotations and communication strategies. Visual studies tend to examine carriers such as logos, publicity posters, and films, while dedicated research on party journal coversu2014a systematic and politically significant communication mediumu2014remains limited. Moreover, most existing studies on journal covers prioritize aesthetic and technological dimensions, paying insufficient attention to their ideological and political functions, thereby undervaluing the role of party journal covers in party image construction. Drawing on the Party Newspapers and Journals Column of the Qiushi website and the Dengta Party Building Digital Library, this paper selects 150 central and local party journals as a comprehensive and representative sample. It systematically analyzes visual design elements of party journal covers and their pathways of party image shaping across four dimensions: journal name typography, color palette, cover imagery, and layout composition. The findings show that party journal covers reinforce authoritative recognition through the calligraphic and typographic treatment of journal names; convey the Party's red genes and ideological depth through a red-dominated color scheme; balance the Party's authoritative and people-oriented image through the interplay of macro- and micro-narrative imagery; and achieve efficient information communication and aesthetic order through hierarchical layout design. The study offers theoretical reference and practical insights for the visual renewal of party journals and the enhancement of party image in the new era.
Against the backdrop of a growing shortage of high-quality Chinese corpus, transforming published content into usable data assets has become critical to supporting the digital and intelligent transformation of the publishing industry, as well as the broader development of digital cultural industries. Using literature analysis, normative analysis, and case studies, this study maps current corpus development practices and diagnoses the systemic barriers impeding progress. Three primary models of corpus development have emerged in practice: independent construction, integration with large language models (LLMs), and cooperative construction. In the independent model, publishers leverage proprietary content resources to build vertical corpora. The LLM integration model focuses on connecting content with external AI capabilities, while the cooperative model involves combining editorial resources with the technical expertise of technology companies and universities. While these models reflect progress toward refined data governance, three core challenges persist: poorly defined licensing rights and value distribution, technical friction caused by fragmented formatting and annotation standards, and weak data-sharing incentives stemming from low trust and ambiguous revenue models. To address the challenges mentioned above, this paper proposes a series of integrated solutions. (1) Regarding the authorization and operation of corpus resources, the legal rights of publishing entities must be formally recognized. This involves affirming their authority to hold data resources, process and use content, and operate data products. The rights to hold and process data are grounded in the legal authorization of property rights within publishing contracts, while the right to operate and profit from data products depends on the substantive processing of these resources by the publishers. Furthermore, publishers should select operational models that align with their content advantages. Second, to resolve standard fragmentation, a collaborative alliance involving government, industry, and research institutions should be established. This body would lead the development of a standard-setting system that is guided by government leadership but driven by industry participation and multi-stakeholder coordination. Such an approach ensures that corpus standards are fundamental, practical, and capable of being widely adopted across the industry to facilitate data circulation. (3) The paper outlines three specific mechanisms to facilitate data circulation and reuse. First, establishing rules for the registration and confirmation of data asset rights. These rules would provide preliminary evidence for resolving ownership disputes and serve as essential credentials for balance-sheet recognition and market trading. Second, exploring data trust models for publishing content. This involves using informed consent and implied license rules as institutional tools for orderly sharing. Specifically, a dedicated data trust management body should be established to build "data pools", drawing on the operational experience of patent pools in the intellectual property field. Third, building a multi-dimensional incentive system. Economic incentives should follow the contribution principle and create a profit-sharing framework that covers all stakeholders in the data value chain. Technical incentives should focus on reducing participation costs and quantifying data value through innovation. Managerial incentives should include incorporating corpus construction into national financial support programs, providing research subsidies, and implementing tax preferences for participating institutions.
Thematic publishing has become a critical vehicle for disseminating mainstream values and key ideological concepts, while academic publishing, with its rigorous standards and authoritative knowledge, serves as a cornerstone for knowledge production and scholarly inheritance. The integration of academic rigor and thematic guidance creates a distinctive publishing form that carries both ideological weight and scholarly credibilityu2014academic thematic publishing. Advancing academic thematic publishing is not merely a practical response to national publishing policies, but also a strategic imperative that holds significant implications for market expansion and the elevation of publishing's cultural and societal value. However, the core essence of academic thematic publishing remains under-theorized in existing research. This conceptual ambiguity not only obscures its social, cultural, and economic value but also renders its development path difficult to conceptualize and implement. Therefore, this study undertakes a systematic analysis of academic thematic publishing by positioning "thematic publishing" as the primary framework of ideological and value orientation, and adopting "academic publishing" as the methodological lens for quality control and knowledge construction. It emphasizes that academic publishing's inherent commitment to rigor and evidence-based scholarship serves as a powerful means to enhance the quality, authority, and long-term influence of thematic publishing works, thereby avoiding the risks of superficiality or homogenization. Building on this analytical foundation, the study elucidates the dual value of academic thematic publishing at both the social and economic levels. Socially, it plays a vital role in reinforcing mainstream values, enhancing cultural confidence, and strengthening the international competitiveness of Chinese academic thematic publishing. Economically, it contributes to high-quality development of the publishing industry and fosters new growth points in the knowledge economy. Notably, amid structural uncertainties such as falling birth rates and channel restructuring, educational publishing faces mounting pressure, while academic publishing continues to growu2014a key breakthrough for thematic publishing to tap new markets. These considerations reveal the necessity of academic thematic publishing as an indispensable strategic component of China's national thematic publishing strategy. Finally, the study proposes a multi-dimensional development pathway to advance academic thematic publishing in its mission of connecting the era with individuals and conveying spiritual strength. This path unfolds across three coordinated dimensions: first, content development grounded in the organic integration of perspective depth, topic breadth, and discursive warmth as the foundational pillar; operational practices driven by demand-oriented convergent product development and knowledge-influencer-led new media marketing on platforms such as short video and live streaming as the operational engine; and ecosystem building through internalu2013external collaborative innovation among academic institutions, publishing houses, and digital platforms as the fundamental safeguard for sustainable growth.
With the continued advancement of China's strategy to promote fine traditional culture abroad, the international dissemination of books on traditional Chinese culture has become an important pathway for enhancing the nation's cultural soft power and shaping China's international image. This study uses books funded by the Classic China International Publishing Project as research samples. Employing a combination of quantitative statistics and qualitative analysis, it systematically examines characteristics of thematic distribution, diachronic evolution, target markets, and international reception. To move beyond descriptive statistical analysis, this paper introduces the cultural discount theory as an entry point for measuring the difficulty of cross-cultural communication across various types of books. The findings reveal that current international communication practices of traditional cultural books exhibit a content structure characterized by "high-context content dominance supplemented by low-context content." The focus primarily lies on historical and institutional civilization, literary arts and aesthetic culture, as well as philosophical thought and classical texts, with the overall content oriented toward specialized reading. In terms of historical evolution, publishing houses have made dynamic adjustments by reducing cultural discounts, shifting the emphasis of international dissemination from classical interpretation to life aesthetics and intangible cultural heritage and folk customs. Regarding market distribution, English and other major Western languages dominate; the Japanese and Korean markets are relatively mature, while markets for other less common languages remain fragmented. Furthermore, the international dissemination of traditional cultural books currently faces challenges, leading to a certain degree of loss in cultural value during circulation. Firstly, the concentration effect of "high-context" content in books is pronounced, with philosophical and historical institution-related publications accounting for a significant proportion, which confines the audience to specialized circles, making it difficult to reach the general public. Content on universally applicable aesthetics of life remains relatively scarce. Secondly, the dissemination efforts are predominantly concentrated in English-speaking regions, and over-reliance on a single channel hinders entry into the mass market. Thirdly, most books have not yet genuinely integrated into overseas public knowledge service systems, and their penetration into the general reading market remains notably insufficient. In response, the international communication of Chinese traditional cultural books requires further enhancement in content supply, market strategy, and audience reach. In terms of content, publishing institutions should shift book topics from grand theoretical interpretations to those that resonate with daily life, incorporating more everyday elements and contemporary perspectives, while focusing on themes that transcend national boundaries and evoke universal empathy. Regarding market strategy, a well-structured and locally integrated dissemination ecosystem should be established with an open and inclusive joint editing mechanisms, cultivating local translation talent, and co-building distribution channels to integrate books into the local cultural context, thereby reducing comprehension barriers caused by cultural differences. For audience engagement, genuine feedback and interactive experiences from overseas readers must be prioritized, and social reading ecosystems should be cultivated and activated to extend the book lifecycle. Thus, we can truly transition from cultural export to mutual cultural appreciation, elevating Chinese stories into wealth for humanity.
This study analyzes 234 policy texts on online literature issued between 2006 and 2025 and constructs a three-dimensional policy analysis framework of "policy tools u2013 policy goals u2013 policy participants" to conduct systematic quantitative and content analysis. The findings reveal that industrial policies for online literature in China have evolved through three stages: the nascent stage, the development stage, and the consolidation stage; the policy instruments exhibit a structural imbalanceu2014environmental-type tools predominate while supply-type and demand-type instruments remain supplementaryu2014with significant variation in sub-tool deployment; policy goals show a pronounced bias toward social benefits, with inadequate support for economic objectives; policy participation remains primarily governmental and enterprise-driven, with limited engagement from creators, readers, and researchers, and a collaborative governance framework has yet to emerge. Based on these findings, three optimization directions are proposed. First, rebalance the policy tool mix. On the supply side: build enterprise capacity in editorial operations, content review, and platform governance; accelerate the research and application of intelligent review, copyright registration and traceability technologies; increase financial support for high-quality content creation and publication transformation projects of online literature. On the demand side: incorporate online literature into the national reading project framework; formulate differentiated support policies for dimensions such as copyright export; encourage systematic research on the overseas dissemination effects of online literature publishing practices. On the environmental side: strengthen the implementation and feedback mechanisms for financial support policies; introduce targeted fiscal incentives for content creation; and develop clearer regulatory standards for online literature publishing. Second, rebalance policy goal priorities. Invigorate the industry value chain by prioritizing works with publication potential and providing technical and financial support across publication stages; encourage enterprises to promote cross-format adaptation of online literary worksu2014including audiobooks and derivative productsu2014and expand into adjacent cultural sectors. Balance industry scale expansion with cultural export objectives: promote constructive government-enterprise dialogue and build sustainable overseas dissemination systems; drawing on traditional Chinese culture and contemporary themes, develop high-quality works with both Chinese cultural identity and international resonance. Deepen the integration of online literature and the national reading project, maintaining the core orientation of "content is king." Finally, coordinate multi-stakeholder participation. Consolidate the "government-led, enterprise-coordinated" governance pattern; enterprises should fulfill their primary responsibilities and strengthen practitioner capacity building. Address the core concerns of creators regarding copyright ownership and revenue distribution; establish regular feedback mechanisms incorporating reader input into content planning; expand researchers' channels for academic participation and strengthen their advisory role. This study offers actionable pathways for optimizing the industrial policy framework for online literature and advancing its high-quality development.
Registered Reports(RR)offer a promising pathway to mitigate publication bias,enhance data transparency,and improve research reproducibility by shifting peer review from results-based to methods-based evaluation.Despite growing international adoption,little is known about how Chinese researchers,editors,and research administrators perceive RR or what barriers impede its local implementation.This study employs grounded theory,drawing on semi-structured in-depth interviews with 30 participants from diverse disciplines(biology,medicine,psychology,materials science,engineering,and management)and roles(early-career and senior researchers,journal editors,editorial board members,and research administrators).Interviews were transcribed,coded using ATLAS.ti,and analyzed iteratively through open,axial,and selective coding,yielding 94 concepts,10 categories,and 5 core categories.A"motivity-resistance"model is constructed,capturing three interacting dimensions:value cognition,power structure,and behavioral actors.Findings reveal a pronounced decoupling between positive value perception and behavioral intention.While most participants acknowledge RR's theoretical advantages—improved methodological rigor,reduced selective reporting,and increased efficiency—actual willingness to adopt RR in their own practice remains low.Cognitive resistance stems from a deep-rooted research culture that prioritizes positive results and serendipitous discoveries,especially in exploratory fields such as materials science and synthetic biology,where preregistration is seen as potentially constraining innovation.From a power-structure perspective,the research evaluation system—encompassing promotion criteria,funding allocation,and journal rankings—provides virtually no institutional recognition for RR,while journal leaders fear operational burdens including workload surges and'empty registrations.'Behaviorally,different stakeholders rationally weigh costs and benefits:earlycareer researchers value the certainty of inprinciple acceptance but worry about idea theft during firstround review;reviewers support the methodological focus yet are deterred by increased unpaid workload;editorial board members and editors express cautious optimism but demand local pilot evidence before committing.Disciplinary culture significantly affects RR acceptance,whereas regional reform policies show no notable influence.To break the lock-in loop of cognitive tradition,power asymmetry,and behavioral conservatism,the study proposes actionable strategies:reforming evaluation systems to reward process rigor and negative results;establishing a third-party pre-registration platform(led by academic societies)to protect intellectual property;crediting RR peer-review work as"academic service"in promotion criteria;developing lightweight manuscript management systems for RR workflows;and adopting a phased,discipline-specific pilot approach starting with method-oriented fields(e.g.,clinical psychology,biomedicine)before gradual expansion.These findings demonstrate that promoting RR in China is not merely a technical adjustment but a systemic transformation requiring aligned changes in research culture,institutional power,and stakeholder incentives.This study provides empirical evidence and context-sensitive solutions to advance open science and publishing innovation in Chinese scientific journals.
The Implementation Opinions on the Standardized Application and Innovative Development of Agents emphasizes strengthening application-driven development of agents,actively and prudently promoting their deployment in typical scenarios,and exploring demonstration use cases such as content creation agents,educational and instructional agents,and agents for online content construction and management.An agent is an intelligent system capable of autonomous perception,memory,decision-making,interaction,and execution.A publishing agent is such a system with domain-specific capabilities applied to the publishing field,constituting an important form of intelligent publishing products and services and a new category of product in digital publishing development.Based on this,this paper divides the architecture of a publishing agent into five modules:the publishing context perception module,the publishing task planning and reasoning module,the full-process publishing production module,the publishing knowledge memory module,and the multi-role collaboration module.Specifically,the perception module converts heterogeneous data(e.g.,text,sound,images)into content understandable by large models and transmits it to subsequent reasoning and decision-making stages.The task planning and reasoning module—the agent's cognitive core—plans,learns from,and makes decisions based on information acquired during perception.The full-process production module acts as the"operator"of the publishing agent,converting decisions from the reasoning module into concrete behaviors and actions,with key technologies including robot control,action generation,and content output.The knowledge memory module stores historical interaction data to support ongoing decision-making.The multi-role collaboration module,critical in multi-agent systems,handles interactions among users and agents,agents and agents,and agents and the environment;this paper focuses specifically on inter-agent communication.The paper further summarizes four types of publishing agents:dedicated agents for specific publishing processes,autonomous agents that learn from feedback in publishing scenarios,generative agents serving publishing production,and multi-agent systems covering the entire publishing workflow.Finally,from the perspective of"space-subject-element",the paper provides an in-depth analysis of the value and functions of publishing agents in expanding the space of integrated publishing,innovating intelligent publishing subjects,and optimizing new elements such as data and technology.
Driven by digital technology and the Open Access (OA) movement, the scholarly publishing ecosystem is undergoing a profound structural transformation. The traditional subscription-based dissemination model, long dominated by commercial publishers, is being fundamentally challenged by Academic Social Networking Sites (ASNS). This paper explores the underlying mechanisms through which ResearchGate reshapes the scholarly communication ecosystem and analyzes its ecological impacts, evolutionary dynamics, and ethical challenges. ResearchGateu2019s disruptive influence is rooted in three core mechanisms: a professional academic network based on strict identity authentication, a unique u201Crequest full-textu201D feature, and algorithmic recommendation technology. Collectively, these mechanisms have triggered four paradigm shifts in scholarly publishing. First, they have facilitated the flattening of dissemination chains, transitioning from a rigid, linear hierarchical model (u201Cauthor-journal-database-readeru201D) to a direct, decentralized social distribution model (u201Cauthor-readeru201D). Second, they have driven the diversification of evaluation systems, challenging the hegemony of the Journal Impact Factor by introducing alt-metric indicators like the RG Score and read counts. Third, they have enabled the visualization of feedback mechanisms, transforming anonymous database access logs into traceable, identity-based data that allows authors to identify and connect with their readership. Fourth, they have achieved behavioral-value integration, whereby readersu2019 activities (reads, shares) directly generate social capital for authors, creating a continuous loop of value co-creation. Consequently, these shifts have triggered a migration of academic discourse power from traditional publishers back to the research community. However, this shift carries potential risks: the platformu2019s logic may drive the academic ecosystem toward implicit commercialization by monetizing user traffic and data, while alt-metric indicators risk devolving into utilitarian u201Csocial performanceu201D if formally incorporated into evaluation systems. Furthermore, the lack of quality control over freely uploaded content remains a structural vulnerability. The relationship between ResearchGate and traditional publishers has evolved from zero-sum copyright conflicts to ecological symbiosis. This trajectory encompasses three stages: the confrontation phase, the cooperation phase, and the integration phase. In this hybrid symbiosis, publishers retain quality control and certification, while RG handles social dissemination and engagement, forging a u201Cformal publishing + social communicationu201D paradigm. Nevertheless, balancing the open nature of social sharing with intellectual property rights remains a persistent ethical challenge. Finally, considering these systemic transformations, this paper proposes strategic recommendations for Chinese academic publishing institutions to enhance their international influence. These include: expanding dissemination channels and deepening data collaboration by actively participating in RGu2019s Journal Home services; leveraging algorithmic mechanisms by optimizing copyright policies to authorize compliant author self-archiving; and capitalizing on node linkage mechanisms by identifying and engaging key scholars as u201Csuper nodesu201D to expand journalsu2019 boundaries, transitioning from passive manuscript collection to proactive academic agenda-setting.
The phenomenon of "identity formatting", where Chinese scholars' names in Chinese characters are romanized into Pinyin, has led to dual predicaments of confusion in identity recognition and the weakening of cultural identifiers. This study selected 56 leading English-language journals included in the Excellence Action Plan as research objects and constructed a three-dimensional analytical framework of "policy-publishing-dissemination". Through methods such as official website information collection, journal article review, and multi-platform retrieval verification, this study systematically explored the current development status and practical characteristics of "author names in Chinese characters" in China's English-language scientific and technological journals, and proposed targeted optimization paths. The findings revealed that only 18 out of the 56 sample journals, accounting for 32.1%, have issued supportive policies related to "author names in Chinese characters". The policy descriptions are highly dependent on the templates provided by publishing institutions, with low levels of independent customization by the journals themselves. Among the journals where policies have been adopted, although the proportion of articles by Chinese authors in the 18 policy-supportive journals is generally high, indicating a strong potential demand for "author names in Chinese characters", only 2 journals actually presented such signatures, resulting in a policy implementation rate of less than 4%. In the dimension of dissemination effectiveness, while most current publisher platforms support Chinese character retrieval, major international citation databases such as Web of Science, Scopus, and PubMed still cannot directly retrieve metadata with "author names in Chinese characters". Overall, the application of "author names in Chinese characters" in China's leading English-language journals is currently in a stage characterized by "policy support, low implementation in publishing, and existing barriers in dissemination", accompanied by such problems as unbalanced policy implementation and practical application, insufficient refinement of the author identity identification system, and prominent cross-platform technical constraints. In response to these issues, this study proposes optimization paths from three perspectives: journal editorial offices need to raise their service awareness, integrate "author names in Chinese characters" into the entire publishing process; publishing institutions should strengthen underlying technical support, standardize the encapsulation of metadata for "author names in Chinese characters" in accordance with the international JATS data standard; and industry competent authorities need to play a guiding role, incorporate the implementation of "author names in Chinese characters" into the evaluation indicators for journal service capabilities. This study points out that breaking the predicament of Pinyin "formatting" for Chinese scholars' names is not merely a technical issue, but a broader challenge tied to academic concepts and cultural confidence. The promotion of Chinese-character author names will effectively enhance the international recognizability of Chinese scholars' academic identities, strengthen their cultural identifiers, and restore a true, complete and culturally resonant academic portrait for Chinese scholars. At the same time, it will help China's English-language scientific and technological journals improve their author service capabilities and international influence, and demonstrate Chinese cultural confidence on the international academic publishing stage.
Educational publishing serves as a cornerstone in building a high-quality educational system, and publishing quality management is a key factor in ensuring the effective implementation of textbook development. In the new era, the quality management in educational publishing should aim to produce high-quality textbooks that cultivate virtue, nurture wisdom, stimulate inquiry, and develop intelligence, thus support the transformation and quality improvement of educational publishing, and contribute to building a leading country in education. Educational publishing professionals should clarify their roles and responsibilities, constantly meet the new demands and expectations of student readers for high-quality textbooks, foster a new quality culture in the educational publishing field, comprehensively improve the quality management levels, and advance the practice of quality management. The quality management in educational publishing in the new era is characterized by "four unprecedented" historical contexts, i.e., unprecedented Party and state attention to textbook construction; unprecedented emphasis on the scope and value of quality management driven by the demands of the era; unprecedented depth of understanding in mechanism reform at the grassroots practice level; and the unprecedented demands of technological application for digitally and intelligently empowered process innovation. It also has clear practical requirement as follows: integrating the Party's innovative theories into the entire process of quality management in educational publishing; achieving full coverage of quality management through the dual engines of textbook development and educational services, and addressing the urgent need for original textbooks to advance China's independent knowledge system; answering the fundamental educational question of "what kind of people to cultivate, how to cultivate them, and for whom they are cultivated", establishing a new concept of quality culture, and comprehensively improving the level of quality management in educational publishing. From the perspective of the background and practical requirements, the quality management in educational publishing has entered a new stage of development, whether in terms of the unprecedented emphasis described by "four unprecedented" factors or the internal and external drivers highlighted in the two dimensions of textbook development and educational services. Based on this realistic assessment, it is urgent to explore pathways for advancement through the practical exploration, i.e., management innovation as the institutional cornerstone, technological empowerment as the medium and carrier, talent team building as the main force, and research application as the logical thread. The four dimensions are interdependent and mutually reinforcing. Among these, research application serves as the key academic platform for scholarly breakthrough. Editorial professionals should reclaim traditions, fully leverage the advantages of integrating editing and research, further lead academic innovation, and inject momentum into dissemination.
During the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021u20132025), technological innovation has become a key driver of the high-quality development of China's publishing industry. With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and other emerging digital technologies, innovation activities have increasingly permeated all segments of the industry. However, limited attention has been paid to the structural distribution of innovation activities across the publishing industry chain and their evolutionary trajectories based on objective innovation output data. With this in mind, this study applies the Innovation Value Chain (IVC) framework to examine the structural characteristics and development trends of technological innovation in China's publishing industry. Drawing on 28 A-share listed publishing companies as the sample, this study collected patent data from the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) database and software copyright registration data from enterprise information platforms. A total of 889 patents and 2, 148 software copyright registrations filed between 2021 and 2025 were analyzed. Through bibliometric analysis and BERTopic-based topic modeling, the study investigates the scale, thematic structure, and distribution of innovation outputs across the innovation value chain. Innovation themes were further mapped onto upstream, midstream, and downstream segments of the publishing industry chain to reveal the allocation of innovation resources. The findings indicate that technological innovation in the publishing industry exhibits a markedly uneven structure. Innovation outputs are concentrated among a small number of leading firms and display evident regional agglomeration effects. Software copyright registrations substantially outnumber patents, suggesting that publishing enterprises place greater emphasis on platform construction, application development, and service innovation. Innovation activities are mainly concentrated in the midstream production stage and downstream application stage. Patent-based innovations primarily focus on production process optimization, digital reading technologies, equipment improvement, and user-oriented applications, whereas software-based innovations are largely devoted to digital platforms, copyright management, content creation support, and intellectual property (IP) commercialization. By contrast, upstream innovation related to original content technologies, copyright governance, and data infrastructure remains relatively limited. Consequently, the current innovation landscape is dominated by short-chain and medium-chain innovation, while long-chain innovation remains comparatively underdeveloped. The study further suggests that technological innovation in the publishing industry is undergoing a transition from production-oriented technological improvement toward application-oriented service expansion. Innovation activities are increasingly moving from technology adaptation to publishing-specific technological development, from isolated process optimization to full-process digital collaboration, and from single-content monetization to platform-based and multi-scenario value realization. Platform-based development, AI-enabled transformation, and data-driven innovation are emerging as major development trends. By revealing the structural distribution and evolutionary trends of technological innovation, this study enriches the application of the Innovation Value Chain theory in publishing research and provides empirical evidence for optimizing innovation allocation, improving innovation quality, and fostering new-quality productive forces in the publishing industry.
To address the strategic demands of digital transformation and the cultivation of new quality productive forces in academic publishing, this study explores scenario-based knowledge services using digital twin technology. By investigating the key factors influencing user experience in such services, it aims to provide theoretical and practical guidance for system optimization. Integrating the Information System Success Model (ISSM), embodied cognition theory, and knowledge creation theory, this study constructs a user experience-oriented theoretical model. Six latent variables are identified: system quality, knowledge presentation fidelity, immersive experience, behavioral intention, cognitive empowerment, and knowledge service effectiveness. A dual-experiment repeated-measures design was implemented across universities and enterprises in five Chinese provinces. Experiment 1 used a neutral immersive geography knowledge service based on digital twin principles, with high-definition real-captured scenes and real-time interaction. This neutral content isolated the basic effects of core digital twin features on user experience without interference from professional knowledge. Experiment 2 used a self-developed digital twin academic publishing system presenting professional academic papers through 3D modeling and real-time rendering. All participants completed both experiments in sequence and filled out identical seven-point Likert questionnaires after each session. A total of 656 questionnaires were collected, and data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The path analysis and mediation tests revealed several key findings. First, contrary to classic ISSM expectations, system quality did not directly enhance immersive experience or behavioral intention in the neutral context; its influence was fully mediated by knowledge presentation fidelity. Only in the professional context did system quality show a direct effect on behavioral intention. Second, knowledge presentation fidelity emerged as the central driver, directly and positively affecting both immersive experience and behavioral intention across both experiments. Third, immersive experience significantly influenced behavioral intention and directly contributed to knowledge service effectiveness, while behavioral intention strongly predicted cognitive empowerment. Most importantly, cognitive empowerment was identified as the strongest direct predictor of knowledge service effectiveness, surpassing the direct effect of immersive experience. Mediation analyses confirmed that the effect of system quality on behavioral intention was transmitted through immersive experience, and the effect of immersive experience on cognitive empowerment was transmitted through behavioral intention. Based on these findings, this study extends the ISSM and proposes a digital twin-based academic publishing knowledge service system model including five functional modules: content production, virtual mapping, immersive interaction, intelligent service, and real time feedback. Practically, the study offers actionable strategies from three dimensions: technology research and application, content production, and system design. Publishers are advised to prioritize high-fidelity knowledge presentation and cognitive engagement, collaborate with professional design firms for 3D modeling, develop reusable discipline-specific templates, and embed cognitive guidance tools such as knowledge tags, structural highlighting, and path navigation. These findings provide theoretical and practical guidance for developing effective digital twin-based knowledge services in academic publishing, supporting the industry's digital transformation and the cultivation of new quality productive forces.
With generative AI rapidly entering image production and publishing workflows, the threshold for creating, repairing, enhancing, and recomposing images has been greatly lowered. This transformation challenges the default assumption of authenticity on which traditional image archive publishing has long relied. In conventional cultural heritage publishing, readers conventionally assume that photographs of artifacts, grotto details, buildings, or ornaments maintain a stable connection with real objects. In the AI era, however, images may be generated, seamlessly spliced, stylistically transferred, restored, or reconstructed, making it necessary to explain why an image is trustworthy, how it was produced, and what relationship it maintains with the original object. Based on the previous conceptual discussion of "image archive publishing, " this article focuses on the authenticity risks faced by image archive publishing in the AI era, including authenticity crises, broken source chains, confused versions, ambiguous rights boundaries, and limited modes of reuse. It argues that authenticity should shift from an implicit premise to an explicit, institutionalized, and continuously explainable mechanism. The paper proposes a six-part framework: traceable sources, comparable versions, scholarly annotation, manageable rights, graded use, and explainable communication. These mechanisms respond respectively to the problems of provenance loss, version disorder, insufficient knowledge organization, unclear authorization, limited utilization, and public misunderstanding. The article further emphasizes that the key role of publishing institutions is not merely to release images, but to organize, explain, authenticate, and transform image archives into trusted upstream resources that can be traced, accessed, cited, and reused. This requires publishers to intervene earlier in resource design, metadata organization, version description, rights governance, and digital transformation. The study also discusses the shift from a book-product logic to a resource-engineering logic. A book remains an important public interface, but it should no longer be regarded as the endpoint of image archive publishing. Instead, image archives should be organized as a layered resource system consisting of original images, knowledge annotations, research samples, and public transformation interfaces. Such a system makes the image archive usable not only for printed publication, but also for databases, exhibitions, digital thematic collections, educational platforms, interactive systems, knowledge graphs, and future AI-assisted applications. The publication and research chain around the Yungang Grottoes provides an illustrative case. The organization of images in Complete Works of the Yungang Grottoes, together with later research on Yungang ornamentation, folk meanings, Buddhist sinicization, digital reconstruction, interaction design, and aesthetic cognition, shows how trustworthy image resources can generate sustained scholarly, educational, digital, and interdisciplinary outcomes. The case also demonstrates that the value of image archive publishing lies not only in preserving true images, but in enabling images to be continuously trusted, interpreted, compared, and transformed. The paper concludes that the core value of image archive publishing in the AI era lies in rebuilding visual trust through institutionalized authenticity verification, thereby providing publishing infrastructure for the long-term development and reuse of cultural heritage resources.
Under the dual pressures of slowing growth in the government-end(G-end)market and insufficient penetration in the consumer-end(C-end)market,Chinese educational publishing houses face significant development challenges.Expanding the C-end market has become a key pathway for overcoming growth bottlenecks and achieving business transformation.Focusing on state-owned educational publishers at the K12 level,this paper systematically analyzes core characteristics of existing business models,identifies major challenges in C-end market expansion,and examines the underlying industrial and institutional drivers.The study finds that while policy protections have long secured stable textbook publishing revenue,they have also produced rigid market operating mechanisms and weak competitive market awareness.Four major challenges hinder C-end market development.First,a structural misalignment of user cognition exists:parents strongly associate educational publishers with statutory textbook suppliers yet prefer private brands for supplementary materials.Second,digital product and service systems lag behind,with most offerings remaining at the stage of basic content digitization without intelligent interaction or personalization.Third,publishers lack data insight and operational capabilities,with no direct C-end user access channels,no systematic data collection mechanisms,and few professional data analysis teams.Fourth,market operating mechanisms remain rigid,as performance systems prioritize public welfare and circulation volume while lacking C-end operational metrics and incentives.Drawing on national policy guidance for the in-depth integration of publishing,this paper proposes a four-dimensional reconstruction strategy.Identity reconstruction entails transforming from textbook supplier to educational service operator through tiered product matrices and IP-derived content.Channel reconstruction requires shifting from platform dependence to a self-built omni-channel ecosystem,with self-operated platforms—including the PEP Smart Learning Platform(over 80 million users)and the Subject Education Network(over 63 million registered users)—complemented by immersive educational scenarios and cross-business coordination.Value reconstruction converts policy authority into consumer-trusted brand assets through cross-platform content dissemination,membership service systems,and public welfare initiatives.Technology reconstruction advances from standardized supply to an intelligent ecosystem through AI integration,a data-content-scenario-user chain,and data productization and assetization.These four dimensions are mutually reinforcing.Identity reconstruction defines market positioning,channel reconstruction provides user access pathways,value reconstruction builds brand trust,and technology reconstruction provides underlying capability support.Together they form an integrated framework for educational publishers to achieve a structural transformation from textbook suppliers to educational service ecosystem operators.Future research may explore four directions:advanced applications of AIGC in content production and personalized services;innovation in C-end market monetization models and scale-effect generation mechanisms;cross-industry collaboration and ecosystem co-construction;and the development of frameworks for data asset ownership,data security,and privacy protection.
The publication of popular science books is an important measure for implementing the "Two Wings Theory", an effective means to serve high-level scientific self-reliance and self-strengthening, and a key component in promoting widespread reading among the public. A series of policy documents including the "Regulations on Promoting Mass Reading" have been successively implemented. How to promote the high-quality development of popular science publishing has become an important issue for China's publishing industry to address. Existing studies have examined this issue from the perspectives of the publishing trends of popular science books, the current publishing situation in specific fields, and international comparisons. However, there are few studies that conduct detailed research on the high-quality development of popular science book publishing in the new era from the perspective of national awards. This is also the research gap that this article intends to fill. This study selects popular science books that received the National Science and Technology Progress Award between 2005 and 2023 as research samples. It systematically reviews the research papers, creative statements, interviews, news reports, and evaluative reviews of all awarded titles to analyze their publishing practices and identify pathways for high-quality development. The findings show that, in terms of authorship, most contributors are authoritative domain experts with a strong commitment to science communication; in terms of topic selection, they demonstrate dual sensitivity to public needs and national strategic priorities; in terms of content, they exemplify "meta-popularization" by scientists, communicating original research through accessible first-person narratives; in terms of presentation, they combine multi-dimensional format innovation with distinctive Chinese characteristics. These findings offer three priorities for the 15th Five-Year Plan period: promote the transformation of scientific and technological resources into high-quality popular science publications; cultivate composite author-editor teams to develop new models of science creation and publishing; and leverage technological empowerment to develop new expressive formats for popular science content. Drawing on the publishing experience of these award-winning titles, the popular science publishing industry can move from a developmental plateau toward genuine high-quality development, contributing to China's broader goals of cultural advancement and innovation-drivenmodernization.
