[Purposes]This study aims to explore the dynamic trend of the number of journal papers and impact factors in the past five years from different dimensions and investigate the impact of the increase of the paper quantity on impact factors and the Journal Citation Indicator(JCI).[Methods]From the Web of Science(WoS)database,8094 journals continuously indexed by Science Citation Index(SCI)from 2018-2022 were chosen as the research subjects. We conducted statistical analysis and comparison of the paper quantity and impact factors across these five years.Furthermore,we analyzed the relationship among the paper quantity, impact factors, and JCI across the five years.[Findings]The total quantity of papers published annually is on the rise, while the number of journals that primarily experience an increase in paper quantity is less than that with a decrease. The overall trend for the annual average impact factors is upward, with a significantly higher number of journals reporting an increase in impact factors compared to those with a decrease. In various countries and regions and across different disciplines, the greatest increase in both the paper quantity and impact factors occurred in 2020,with the first decline observed in 2022 over the past five years.China's journals have consistently shown robust growth in both paper quantity and impact factors.Among journals with increased paper quantity, there are more journals with an increase in impact factors than those with a decrease, but the situation is reversed for the JCI.The increase in journal paper quantity does not have a statistically significant correlation with changes in impact factors and JCI(P>0.05).[Conclusions]The variations in the annual total paper quantity are markedly inconsistent with the changes in the paper quantity across individual journals. The annual increase in the impact factors shows a high degree of consistency with the year-on-year changes in the JIF of each journal. In recent years, there has been a steady enhancement in both the quantity and quality of papers published in China's SCI journals. There is no correlation between the paper quantity and the JIF,and the attempt to raise the JIF by reducing the paper quantity lacks scientific validity.
[Purposes]This paper analyzes the topics of the highly read posts in new media of laboratory medical journals,to reveal the hotspots and preferences of users, and guide the formulation of post topic optimization strategy, aiming at improving the dissemination power and influence of new media of laboratory medical journals.[Methods]Taking the WeChat official account of"Laboratory Medicine"(referred to as"Laboratory Medicine")as an example,we used Python programming to screen out the top 100 read posts published on its platform from January 1,2018 to May 31,2023.Based on the Latent Dirichlet Allocation model,we identified the topics of the 100 posts and analyzed them, and then proposed a corresponding post topic optimization strategy for new media of laboratory medical journals.[Findings]The topics of the highly read posts of"Laboratory Medicine"are"Policy document on nucleic acid detection for prevention and control of COVID-19","Code of conduct in the medical industry",and"Professional qualification examination and continuing education".Based on the topic identification and analysis, the topic optimization strategy of multi-voice polyphony(serialized sub-topic development, topic deduction from new perspectives, and case topic collection)is proposed. This strategy is to stretch the narrative tension of the topic of posts, from text telling to retelling text,to enhance the depth and breadth of the topic of new media posts of laboratory medicine journals.[Conclusions]By identifying and analyzing the research topic of the highly read posts on"Laboratory Medicine",it is helpful to formulate more accurate optimization strategies for the topic of posts and provides a basis for the research innovation and spatial expansion of the future topic of the highly read posts of new media of laboratory medical journals.
[Purposes]This study aims to clarify the practical foundation, realistic challenges, and future development path of metaverse-empowered preprints, and explore the development and challenges of preprint itself as well as the transformation and innovation of traditional academic journals and academic publishing ecosystem amid the metaverse era.[Methods]By means of literature research, comparative analysis, and case analysis,we reviewed the practical foundation of metaverse-empowered preprints from four aspects:intelligent technology for academic production, platform field aggregation for academic publishing, collaborative participation in academic evaluation, and multiple ways for academic diffusion.[Findings]In the development toward the metaverse era, there are many realistic challenges such as a high threshold of digital technology, disconnection between virtuality and reality, weak peer review process, and limited knowledge of relevant personnel in preprint. Therefore,it is necessary to focus on integrating industrial clusters, attracting academic synergy, leveraging intelligent tools, and strengthening immersive experiences.[Conclusions]On the basis of fully understanding the realistic challenges of preprint academic communication in the metaverse era,China should fully stimulate technological vitality and academic vitality and promote the integrated development of digitalization and academic publishing, therefore making it a powerful country in publishing.
